Tom, another great memory for me and my family. ☺In 1967, I will never forget go to my cousin's wedding reception at this American Legion Post#4 building. It seems just like yesterday. My cousin was a U.S. Navy veteran and my father celebrated his wedding as he just retired from the U.S. Army in1965. Every time I pass this building I think of that reception. I was only 11 years old for the joyous reception but remember it well. After I check out that Horton Sphere at the former Thermos Co., I will stop by and walk around this building. Wow, the memories never stop and thank you for keeping them alive and well☺. Sincerely, Bill M., Uncasville, CT
@@discgolfbilly Bill……thanks a million for all your support with my endeavors.
From the front, the door on the right led to another which you entered through to the bar, Tom. Believe me, the smoke was heavy. 😅. I used to enjoy the hall through the front door when dances were on with Disc jockey, The Pom (Gary Pomo). Prizes were given away for particular events. Lots of fun
@@tombohara9105 Great memories Tom. I’ll have to admit……that smoke sounds brutal.
I compared this to the drive through you did on this property back in 2020. Pretty stark difference even from then.
@@crixxxxxxxxx Good eye. I agree. Time is taking its toll.
Lots of memories there, Tom. I remember my late stepfather, John J. Shea from Jewett City, would participate in horseshoe competitions there, at the American Legion. A crew of Jewett City horseshoe competitors would drive to Norwich for this big event. I imagine there are a lot of stories on that field and in that building. Thank you for filming this.
@@norakaszuba Great memories.
My Dad too was on that league.
@ Fantastic! I imagine John was fond of your father. I am glad you responded to me. This made my day!
Went to many Xmas party’s at the American Legion as a child. So sad it’s no longer open
@@kimmic3235 Thanks for watching Kim.
I wonder what happened to the two Mark 14 torpedoes that were in front of the building.
@@billfenton If I’m not mistaken they were moved to the industrial park in Norwich where the new American legion post is. The cement foundations are still at the Laurel Hill site but are covered in tall grass at the moment.
Interesting video! Thanks for sharing! Hope you have up to date tetanus shot before going on these adventures lol. Really enjoy your narrated drives and abandoned building videos!
@@wanderlust77-77 Lately the tetanus shot has been more important to me. These areas can be a little unpredictable. Thank you very much for the comment and thanks so much for watching.
