The fact that it came with that Wilson combat ghost ring sight is a HUGE upgrade. You really lucked out on that deal. Congrats! I’m a sucker for the 870 police trade ins. I have 4 of them now. Some wood furniture. Some polymer furniture. One is a gorgeous polished blue.

I still have my 870P from when I was a deputy in the 1980s.
Fun fact: In the 1990s, I attended my first Remington firearm armorer's course, and they told us that EVERY firearm built for LE and military sells are made in their custom shop.
It should be engraved on the receiver what shell lengths it can handle.
If your 870 is a police model and designated with 870P, it should beable to handle 3" magnum shells.

If you’re still looking for one of these, Kings Firearms has a bunch of trade ins. They currently have both wood furniture and polymer furniture versions available. The wood furniture is slightly cheaper and that would be my suggestion. A little tlc and a coat on linseed oil and the wood furniture is gorgeous.
