I came to this one from the full tutorial, so knew it was finished, but the backstory is even more interesting -- thank you for sharing! And thank you for persisting in finishing and showing us how to do this quilt. It is absolutely beautiful and now your daughter and son-in-law have an heirloom piece with which to begin their married life -- well done!!
You’ll get it finished and your daughter will cherish it. My mother made me a Cathedral Window quilt as a HS graduation gift...took her 17 years to complete, but it’s completely hand sewn. Some of the prints were scraps leftover from making me clothes. She was an excellent seamstress, worked a full time job, raised five kids and worked the farm too. . She has passed and I miss her everyday, but I have my quilt and it is proudly displayed in our home.
I smiled when you said King size. I have a bag of Cathedral Window units from the 90s. I drove myself crazy trying to be perfect. I then started college and went on to a master's degree. Someday I will work on it again. I will probably be teaching my great-granddaughters the method because they will inherit my fabric collection.
This quilt is stunning! You CAN FINISH IT!! I started a king size, watercoIor Irish Chain quilt in June, 1999. It was almost complete but I put it away after a week because I did not like 1 of the fabrics & it has sat in a corner for 22 years. I pulled it out last week, decided it looked pretty good afterall, & finished it. I love it now & am so happy to have finished it!! Just get her done my dear!!
I have a signature quilt that I made for my daughter's HS graduation in 2001. Well my husband didn't get around to signing it. After over a year I told him I was going to pack it up and he can sign it whenever. I had forgotten about it until you said to tell you that you're not alone. I'm sure you're going to get done before I do.❤️
Slowly but surely you can get this done. I feel your pain, you tackling this quilt has encouraged me to pull out a 5 year old UFO! If I can do that 1 you can do this. I have faith in you. One block a day for 1 month. Challenge yourself!
I have several unfinished quilts. Before my mom died she wanted to make a quilt for each of her 19 grandchildren back in 2002. Well I decided to take on the challenge to make one for each of her grandchildren. So far I have completed 2, 1 ready to be quilted and 3 quilt tops. I have a long way to go. What held me up from getting started was her death, my mom taught me how to sew and every time I would look at my sewing machine I would remember my mom. Now it brings me joy and I am on my way and thinking of my mom always. It might be a neat thing to finish the quilt with your daughter and share a memory
*_Thank you so much for sharing your quilt story 💟I did finish this quilt ✅here is the link to the video🧡 _**_ua-cam.com/video/2etvGCgKoic_/v-deo.html*
So glad to see that you finished it. I have a quilt that was cut and pieces by my great grandma who passed even before my dad was born and my dad’s mom also worked on it. We found the pieces out at their farm after she passed. My grandma on my mom’s side and my sister finished piecing and binding the quilt. And I’ve been hand quilting it for years. I may finish it by the time I have great grand kids. I started it in my 20s. 🤪
This is beautiful & my dream quilt too. I have the pattern, I decided after speaking to a friend that it is a huge undertaking. I never thought of using the sewing machine. That is amazing! We met, dated, engaged & married in a 9 month period, 36 yrs ago. Mom had no time to make a quilt. We had 4 bridal showers in that 6 wks time. We received our wedding quilt on our 1st anniversary. My favorite and mom's favourite to make, Grandmothers flower garden. We still love it. Then my dad started a star and cube which he promised to me. He did very well with it but was interrupted with cancer, it leaves you with reduced insurance & concentration. Mom helped him finish it. I have learned through the years if you are making something and you give it to someone before it is finished, it is difficult to get it done, you lose your drive. You lose the surprise of giving the finished work. Press on you will be rewarded.
You go girl!!! Now you encourage me, please. LOL. I started my Cathedral Window Quilt about 6 years ago!! Took me a couple of years to complete the back, which I partially machine, and partially hand sewed. Then it was put away. Enter Covid and I retired. Ok, now was the time to face this project!! I finally finished hand sewing all those squares in. YES!!!! But I had a serious problem. The joints I had hand sewn kept coming unsewn!!! So now I am painstakingly machine sewing them down, again dragging my heels!!! HELP!! I’m so ready to be done. And the log cabin quilt for my grandson in law who graduated from fireman’s school!!! Lol
*_Oh Connie sounds like you and I are in the same quilt boat LOL! Pull it out and get busy girl!!! LOL🧡 I'm curious Why do you think the joints came unsewn? I only ask because I did notice on some of my joining areas that I didn't connect well enough or something like that....not sure...but I do have to go back a re-check and re-enforce some joining areas.... ._*
@@TheSewingChannel they kept coming undone as I sewed in the squares. I would keep up with them, but it was a continuous problem. It is out on my work bench. Just to many projects, to little time. We’ll get it done!!!
I had promised my daughter a quilt for nearly 3 years- I had the blocks made. I have health problems and knew I’d have problems getting it together due to its weight as it was a king scrap quilt with scraps sewn on fabric. By the time backing and batting was added it was really heavy. My husband helped me but it together and after I got started it went together quick. I had to tie it because I couldn’t quilt it on the machine, but it turned out pretty. Don’t give up. Get your pieces sorted out and organized and get started. You’ll be amazed how quick you can get it done and the satisfaction of finishing is wonderful. If you have a friend that can help - even better!! Good luck - don’t give up!!
I have two sons who also got married during the COVID lockdown - within 6 weeks of each other. I knew I could not finish one much less two quilts so I decided to make them each a quilt for their anniversary. I had them pick the quilt block pattern and color. One picked the Ohio star and the other picked a folded corner block. Anniversaries are just around the corner and I ended up sending the tops off to have machine quilted! It was a labor of love! Can’t wait to see the finished results!
I want to encourage you and my self. My husband passed 2 years ago. And I haven't been able to sew. I keep a sewing machine in my living room and I visit quilt shops and watch sewing shows so I will pray for you to finish your quilt and please finish it a king size.
I'm with you, only it's been about 6 years since I started mine. I've had sooooo many projects before and since. I still pick it up and do a few squares every now and then. Just keep plugging away here and there. Before you know it it's done. I just finished a quilt for my middle daughter that way. It took me about 15 years to finish a baby sampler quilt as you go for my youngest daughter. This was my first quilt. She loves it.💝😵😍🎊🎉
*_Mine almost became 2 big pillow shams LOL...so I totally get the pillow idea LOL...I'm so glad you ended up making something with them though...way to go!✅_*
Please finish the beautiful quilt ASAP! They are expecting you to finish the gift you made them. God forbid, if something happens to you then they will never get the beautiful quilt finished you put so much time and effort in. Your quilt is more than just a gift, it’s a creation of love, creativity, skill and heritage. They deserve the finished gift you gave them and you deserve the satisfaction of finishing what you started. You know I’m right. In fact every person who sews or crafts knows what I’m talking about. Finishing a project that was interrupted, for whatever reason, is one of the best feelings of accomplishments and to be honest relief! Sew, lady, sew! Get that quilt finished now! You will honestly be thanking yourself you did!!! Looking forward to your next video when you show us the beautiful completed quilt!!! 🥰
That looks wonderful! It will surely be a treasured heirloom for many years to come! I just finished my very first hand quilted large sized quilt that was supposed to be my “summer project” back in the 80’s courtesy of my aunt. I was supposed to hand piece all of the blocks that summer. Never completed more than one. My aunt lovingly pieced them into a quilt top and after my Mom passed away, we found them. This was now 2000. When pandemic hit I decided I will learn to hand quilt this top and finish this work in progress from c. 1984. I would get discouraged and somewhat bored and at some point after starting it let it sit for a couple months. I am used to machine quilting and finishing a quilt much quicker. My aunt, who is 96 years young, shared this advice with me - and here are her simple words of wisdom. Just set aside 30 min - one hour each day to diligently work on it and you’ll soon be finished. So tonight actually I finished sewing the binding on and I can say the longest WIP is finally done - except for the label. So just set aside 30 min - an hour to diligently work on your cathedral window and it will soon be finished! (I would love a tutorial of it also and I just want to also say I am totally envious your local Goodwill has a craft section!)
*_Your aunt is definitely a wise woman! I'm going to try the 30 minute idea....✅ Lately my Goodwill hasn't had much so I haven't been able to do a video🤨Hopefully soon I will go on a shelf stocked day😀 Thank you so much for the encouraging words 💟_*
I think it's lovely even in the 'unfinished' state! I watched the video of it done, as well, which is gorgeous, as well. But just wanted to say it would have been perfect with the 'empty' windows--since they are symmetrical, it works. And I think them being off center adds a modern flair, IMHO. Just an idea for someone to do it intentionally! Beautiful.
Oh wow, does that bring back memories. I too made a cathedral window quilt about 30 years ago that was suppose to be a king that ended up being a twin 😩. I did save more fabric in case I wanted to expand it. I also used a different piece of fabric for each window. My quilt is called “My Charming Cathedral Window”. It didn’t end up the size I wanted but it is beautiful and an heirloom. All my windows are hand appliquéd in place like the olden days. I didn’t realize the time commitment I was making when I started this quilt. I did win an award at a quilt show for it.
Your quilt story is so similar to mine...thank you for sharing 💜🧡❤️ you are so right Deb- the time commitment was an afterthought for me too😱 That’s awesome that you won an award for it!!!YAY🥳🤩
The quilt is awesome. So glad you have the patience to do that. I have a quilt I made for my grandsons graduation in 2020. He still doesn't have it. We were in the process of moving. We moved in late last year. Spent almost two years in our RV. I got it back from the quilter just before we left. All I have to do is cut the excess of and do the bonding. I haven't found it yet! Really long story. So I think you did great!
Hi, Tracy ,what a beautiful labor of LOVE!!!...it truly was. I saw this video here on Jan 24, 2022, after watching the tutorial. Now let me tell you my story, I am currently 65, my first quilt, the Sunbonnet Sue I made for my sisters 16 Birthday ( she will be 58 tomorrow). The 2nd quilt I attempted to make was the fan quilt, fast forward working as an alterations specialist( yes sewing is in my blood) for the next 40 + years, I retired in 2019 at 63, in the fall of 2019 I said i wanted to finish the fan quilt top. It was sewn so WONKY, there is a lot i learned in 40 years, i ripped and ripped and resewed almost every square( because i literally was surprised I had all the squares I needed, I had to take out and recut some pieces to replace, and to search thru fabric to find fabric I had from the 1970's!!!I do not throw any thing away!!!! Luckily i had them. I finished the top before Christmas of that year. I was so proud and its beautiful, I did not machine quilt it as of now, that time will come. I was so motivated , that by the middle of February I finished crocheting 2 afghans that i had started in the late 70's early 80's. Now for my Cathedral window story, first of all, my all time favorite Quilt, I had started it around the time of the fan quilt( middle to late 1970's) I purchased muslin and sewed my squares by machine , like you did and tacked my center corners by hand....sewed all my squares by hand, sewed all my print squares by hand( I don't want any repeat fabrics) , I had a good size piece finished.... your story reminds me I really want to finish it , the problem is the muslin to find what I used !!! I hate for 3/4 of the quilt to look different than the original 1/4 part...and I started reading all the encouraging posts. I thank all of you !!!
Thank you so much for sharing Bonnie.....these quilts have so many "untold" stories. Your labor of love has lasted decades....it's time to get them finished! People reading your comment will be encouraged for sure...thank you for taking the time to comment...💛
I can sure see how you could've lost your interest in such a huge project! I made a very small baby sized Cathedral Window quilt all by hand over 40 years ago. You are SO close to finishing! Would it be possible to commit to adding your 2" SQUARES maybe 2 a day, or 4 a day? How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Don't put a time limit to finish it, just plan TO finish it. And... you will finish it! It is absolutely an incredibly beautiful quilt! Love that pattern! Love your honesty! Keep us posted.
Maybe the problem is you don't actually want to be done ,maybe the fun was in the making and the anticipation of it all ,it's absolutely stunning Tracy you really hit this out of the park 😍💕
I believe that is my problem with a knitting project I started before my dad passed. It still is not done. I have restarted it a dozen times. No time for it currently. Hopefully one day soon.
I made a baby-sized cathedral window for my nephew. My sister wanted a fuzzy, almost cuddle, fabric on the back, and that was probably the hardest thing I had ever done to a quilt! Only because of the work and time that went into making that cathedral window.....and then to cover the back?!?!?! But I did it and she loved it. I did not put anything inside the colored squares, but I think that is a great idea to do! The one you are making is GORGEOUS, and what a gift! It will be a family heirloom! Can't you see your great-grandchildren looking at all those individual no-repeats one day? It will be worth it! Sew on!
I just love Cathedral windows. I made 2 pillowcases. I have 4 children quilts to still finish and I am expecting my first granddaughter next week. Fortunately she needs to be over 1 years. Still they must be finished. When you start yours I can start finishing mine
What a beautiful quilt!! I did a cathedral window pillow, so I know how much work goes in to it, and king size WOW! I read your comment that it is your daughter's dream quilt too, so it is extra special! I took on a sewing project last year as a gift for a loved one. I knew she would appreciate it, but I VASTLY underestimated the number of hours I would need to complete the project. It's been a cloud in my head. In all my free moments I get the thought "I should work on it." I did 2 things, 1) I enlisted the help of some sewing friends -we worked together for a day and made the task go much faster. And 2) I worked on it in small increments, doing little bits at a time, which seemed less overwhelming. I am happy and relieved to say that I finished the project today! It feels so good! You can do this!!
*_That's awesome that you finished it TODAY!.....Thank you for all the great ideas! When I took on the Cathedral window quilt I don't think I actually realized ALL the hours that it would take....I know now LOL😬_*
You have to finish this for her! Just work on it every day until it’s done! Then it will be DONE! A beautiful heirloom gift that will be treasured. But it can’t be treasured if you don’t finish it and give it to her. You’ve told your story! Now you have to finish it! We’re all cheering for you!
Jolene’s right, we’re all cheering for you. We’ve probably all been where you are not wanting to finish a project. I was working on a quilt one time and I just wanted to quit. I finally got myself to finish and it felt so good. This quilt is so beautiful you need to finish for them.
My third attempt at a quilt was a cathedral window! I’ve only gotten a strip the size of a table runner finished! It isn’t perfect, but the colors are still so beautiful. As for unfinished projects, I have about a zillion dragons I’ve been making. None are finished. I am the queen of unfinished projects!
I have a quilt that I started quilting and I don't like the design I chose. I took it off the frame for a while. I have put it back on the frame twice now but still can't bring myself to finish the quilting. It is on my frame again and I going to get it done. I love the quilt and I know once I finish the quilting and wash it, it will look great. Your quilt is beautful and it needs to be finished. It will be something your daughter and son-in-law will treasure for years to come.
I love it! Try to set a goal of a few squares every day. Even if you do one everyday it will get done. It's beautiful and it needs to be enjoyed. I have stopped at the table runner size before, so you are almost done!
I think this quilt is beautiful! My "unfinished" task is my sewing work table that I bought so I would have a place to cut fabric, etc, to make masks. I finished some masks before I went to see my Mom and later a USMC friend in Washington DC. It's more than 10 months since I last used it. My sewing machine (and table) have long ago been put away, but this cutting table is now a place for lots of sewing notions, fabric, and all sorts of other "stuff" .... I walk past it multiple times a day, but just don't feel like organizing anything. Hard to sew again because of the mess! (and I just buy generic blue throwaway masks now ... And have tons more fabric to use for more quilts.
*_I can totally relate about the organization....When my sewing area is crazy it makes me want to walk out and to never return! I have to almost talk myself into organizing and cleaning things up....When I do clean it up then I feel so much better and then I am ready to make a mess again LOL.....it's a vicious cycle for sure!🧡_*
This is sad. Please get some plastic containers to sort out materials maybe by colours or favoured . Spend 15 minutes per day. I have faith you will succeed. Take care.
Covid was what allowed me to finish 4 quilt tops using fabric I bought years ago for 1 quilt. After 2 different starts & taking apart, I finally came up w a quilt top I was happy with. The other 3 were scrappy quilts that I saw from a tutorial. At least yours is backed already!!! Yes, I'd love to see a video of you finishing it. Thanks for posting the unwrapping on the wedding day. Give yourself a break from the incompleteness & appreciate all the beauty so far. Keep up your good work. Waiting for the tutorial!!!
I have a store bought quilt for a double bed..my bed is a queen so....building my stash on a budget to extend this quilt, I have 8 hanging towels to make for a dear friend for her birthday in June[have had everything needed for months]..have 2 sundresses cut out for the last 6 months...I am blaming the weather and my arthritis..lol...determined to attempt to finish before the end of June so I can attempt some projects I WANT to do...good luck with motivation!
Your quilt is soooo beautiful! I would love a tutorial on making a traditional cathedral window quilt or even a shortcut tutorial. Making a full length tutorial might help to inspire you to finish this beauty. ❤
This quilt is awesome. I want to put my quilting for 2 king size and work on this one. no batting needed. Wow. I've got to make this quilt!!!. Thank you for the encouragement of making one. Your channel and vid's are so encouraging.
This is Kazie...my grandmother made and gave me the Cathedral Quilt. I remember she did most of it by hand and its beautiful! That was over 40 years ago. Thankyou and great job!!
*_I think most cathedral window quilts are done by hand......✅ That's so wonderful that you have such a beautiful heirloom and memory of your grandmother🧡_*
So proud of you for finishing this quilt..I also having issues of finishing a cathedral window.. hoping to find encouragement from you and all your followers..thank you all for the uplift..I need to finish two more blocks..then set it all together......I really liked the way you added the poly fill..I pray for the beautiful couple who got married.. Heavenly Father touch this couple, giving them the strength and faith to conquer anything that they shall face, together as a team..in the name of Jesus I pray..AMEN...
Awe..thank you so much for the prayer Maudie...so sweet of you!!!💛 You can totally cross the finish line on your quilt just like I did....Purpose it in your heart and just GO FOR IT! YOU Got this!!! GO MAUDIE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤩
You’ve come so far , like a marathon runner you’ve hit a wall but need to pull from the love in your heart and push through to the finish !it’s beautiful!💕power through!deb
Hi, Tracy! It's hard to finish some projects, even those we love! Perhaps a short break working on a totally different project would help. It's a beautiful quilt and your daughter and son-in-law will cherish it. Hang in there! HUUUUUGGGGSSS!!
When I was a Junior in highs school I cross stitched 12 blocks. Now I’m 66 and have lost 1 of my blocks. This is one of many WIP. Your quilt is beautiful. It will be an heirloom.
This pattern is my favorite also. When my grandmother passed away years ago she had one started and pieces in all the steps but no pattern! This was back in the 80's, so no Internet and I did not know any quilters at the time. My college room mate and I spent a long time trying to figure out how it went together. We finally worked out all the pieces and I made some small pillows for my family. You really should finish this quilt for your daughter and her husband. I know it will be a treasure for their family. I suggest you take all the left over pieces and make a table runner or something using Christmas fabrics and give it to your daughter. The quilt is beautiful!
Beautiful quilt! I had “THAT” quilt. And it was just a simple disappearing nine patch. It was a king quilt. Finally after almost 3 years, I finished it. I am in love with it again. Your daughter will love it.
Yes please a tutorial would be lovely. So happy you showed them on their Wedding Day. Hopefully you will find the umph to finish it.God will lead you!!
My sister made this quilt for her bed. Once finished she ended up buying a new mattress. She then had to increase the size of her quilt. At this point with my sister's instructions I started making my quilt. My sister finished her add-ons and completed the larger size. I was still working to complete mine, but I was raising my elementary school age grandchildren which made it a challenge. Two years into making my quilt my sister passed away unexpectedly, that was December 2004. I've tried many times to work on it to get it completed, but without any success. By the way we did all the work by hand...no sewing machine at all. So, I say to you congratulations on your ability to get yours finished.🥰🙏🏾❤
That quilt is beautiful. Please finish it. It will be something that they will love and cherish forever. You have done an awesome job with it. It will be a relief to finally have it done. You kids will love it.
I made a queen size for my daughter. Took 2 months and so many long days. I am still clipping loose threads since I made traditional way. My blocks were 9 small white squares . 6 blocks accross 7 rows. The last 2 rows were nearly killing me. I used my juki 2010 on diningroom table and rolled it longways. You do get to a point where you are just done, over it, need a break. But they are beautiful!
*_I haven't even thought of how long it will take to go through and check for loose threads and such....everything seems to take so much longer on the cathedral window quilt😬 Beautiful for sure though💜_*
I made a quilt similar to this one. I made it in honor of my mother’s memory on the date of her birthday. I took so much time to make but I love how it came out. Pinks and reds for her Valentine birthday. I will always treasure it.
Please make a tutorial on how you made this beautiful cathedral window quilt. This is just awesome. With what you showed I want to make one. Can not wait to see this finished beautiful quilt.
OMGosh... I completely understand. I am the queen of procrastination. I'm a great starter, but get bored quickly so I have quite a few UFOs. 😳🤣🙃 I would love to see a tutorial for this quilt... It's beautiful. I hope you find the inspiration to finish it..... Someday 😉
Please do a tutorial!!!!! AND FINISH THAT QUILT! I have one unfinished quilt top and it's my own king for my bed. I get it. You've lost interest in that quilt. But you have to finish it. Just get it over with
Bless your heart, Tracy! What an immense sewing project you took on for this amazing wedding gift. I started a quilt, a jelly roll race quilt that has 2 1/2" square connectors in between each 2 1/2" fabric strips. Used almost all of 2 jelly rolls. Intended on making 2 matching pillow shams afterward. The quilt size got out of control, so I decided to cut it down to a queen, and then use the trimmed off part for the pillow shams. Got it finished but not quilted yet. I need the floor space to be able to sandwich it together before quilting. I was also in the process of reorganizing my upstairs when a serious heart condition landed me in the hospital 3 times in 2020. Needless to say, I've not gotten my house reorg finished or the quilt either. A lot of what I'm wanting to give to Salvation Army has yet to be boxed up. Covid stopped a lot of charities from taking donations last year so everything has been stacking up. I've never felt so overwhelmed in my life! I know it's just a matter of diving in and starting again. You and I just go into our sewing rooms, turn on the music, and start sewing. Just starting the project again is half the battle. Prayers to you! A lifetime of happiness and joy to your daughter and son-in-law!!!
Thank you Dori for your sweet encouragement💛 I totally relate about the "overwhelming" feeling. I pray your heart condition is on the mend 💜 We need to dive in like you said and just DO IT! ❤️💛💙💜🧡
Wow!You are a great instructor! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your cathedral tutorial and I was STUNNED by the many cathedrals in your quilt! How did you do this? Gorgeous! I'm going to watch you in your videos and maybe i'll understand how you made thousands of those Cathedral windows, Wow! 👏🏻👑🎖🏆🏅
In your voice, I hear your passion for the process of making this quilt. We all love fabric, so go find more beautiful fabrics and begin again as if this is a new quilt. Put your story in the final touch of a label and future generations will understand about a pandemic that happened and how it turned our lives upside down.
You've done an amazing job! Here's a bit of wisdom I read somewhere and passing it on. Even a little at a time, let your project be finished, succeed or fail. Then you're free. Only yours is a gorgeous success!
I love the "Tracy way" and I love this cathedral quilt. I love the thoughtfulness that you put into making this quilt. Your intention was to make a king size quilt for your daughter's wedding. Then, the pandemic hit, crushing many of our hopes, dreams, plans, and aspirations when it did. The motivation to finish this beautiful project was the anticipation of bringing joy and creating something so special for your daughter and son-in-law. Last year, almost all of the joyous occasions felt a bit dampened by the weight of the pandemic. This summer, things are much better, but we're not really feeling like everything is going to be back to the normal we once took for granted. So, maybe, a way to motivate yourself to finish is to focus on the joy you will give and receive when you give this to n your daughter and son-in-law. If you feel like a queen size quilt will not work for them, finish it anyway and then give yourself some time to allow your creative "Tracy way" to make it work (add a beautiful border??). Set small easily attainable goals and build on those accomplishments. Before you know it, you'll be feeling that inspiration to get you past the finish line. You got this! As for our interest in seeing a tutorial on this, I definitely would love to do this--after you've finished and d feel satisfied with this quilt. 😉 Last but not least, I started embroidering a Peter Rabbit themed quilted blanket during my first pregnancy. I didn't finish it at that time because the baby (now a grown man) had hiccups for 2 hours every night for the last 10 weeks of the pregnancy and I just couldn't finish it. Two years later, I pulled that unfinished quilt out of my closet and finished it just before our second son was born. My motivation was to get it done the second time around even though I was disappointed that I didn't finish it the first time. I hope that at least one of the comments from us viewers helps you feel inspired. If not one of us, maybe you will find motivation from your grand daughter 🥰 Last but not least, you have a new quilting sewing machine that you got last summer. Maybe there's a fun feature on the new machine that might make the project all the more enjoyable. Best wishes for finding the fun and motivation as you finish this beautiful cathedral quilt!
*_Thank you so much baloowhowho....I have read every word of your encouraging comment. I bet your Peter Rabbit quilt is adorable💜Thank you for the motivation....much appreciated💟_*
I am proud of you for finishing the beautiful quilt! Maybe you could make a baby one for your daughter if she’s has a girl. I am off to see the finished product and watch the tutorial! I am going to make one!
What an incredible and loving gift. Your love along with your talent has been poured into that quilt for your daughter! What a blessing! What a tribute! What a blessed daughter/son-in-law! People who do not sew/quilt don't really understand (as one can only do through experiencing or doing the same thing) the amount of time, effort and let's be honest, the expense that goes into making a quilt... or a bag... or you name it. I understand and can clearly see that making it has been a labor of love but still a labor! You've come this far... you have to finish it! Imagine the feeling of accomplishment you would have! Not to mention the joy! On the flip side, if you don't finish it... it will nag and haunt you! You will feel bad about it. You know yourself; set a goal that works for you to get it done. Maybe that would mean a certain number of hours spent on it each week or each day; you decide on whatever works for you. Give yourself time for breaks from it and other projects that can be completed much more quickly. Slow and steady wins the race! Maybe your daughter would like to help you complete it? Good luck! I'm rooting for you!
@@TheSewingChannel I have every faith that you will finish this quilt. Someone who puts in the work that you do on your UA-cam channel is no stranger to hard work and perseverance. I look forward to seeing the finished quilt!
I am so new at wanting to quilt that I cut my first fabric yesterday. Please please show us how to make! And finish your project. Love back is done when front is done!
Dear Lynn, be forewarned. Once you get bit by the quilting bug you can never turn back! I admonish God that He just better have some fabric and a sewing machine when I get to heaven. LOL Welcome.
I have another great grand child due in October- have started, then stopped, then started - NOW, to get it to the quilter and back in time - Baby will come SO< today I will get some more blocks completed. I will. I will. I will.
This is absolutely beautiful and I cannot wait to see the finished project, because you WILL finish it. You have put way too much work in to it and just imagine that pride you will feel when it’s completed!
It looks amazing. I am sure they will love it no matter when you give it to them. You got this! I have to many projects going on. I also make to many things for other people and don’t make enough for myself
I teach English to young students in China. They went on covid lockdown on Jan 19, five days before Chinese New Year, the biggest holiday of their year. It was so sad to watch. In solidarity, I started a quilt. Six hearts around a diamond, 493 two-inch squares. Then the US went on lockdown. I made a quilt back showing butterflies rising from a village/city. It symbolized my hope that we’d emerge from our homes with a renewed gratitude for life, each other and the joy of being together again. Of course, reality was more like a swarm of angry hornets. I finished the quilt but still haven’t penned the label, “Stay Strong, World! 2020- ?” I love the quilt, but there’s sadness attached to it, too. One day the mixed feelings won’t trouble me anymore and I’ll put the finishing touch on the quilt. Only you know your heart and why you feel blocked. We have all suffered from the isolation. Hugs to you. We’ll recover.
Oh my goodness, it's gorgeous ❤️. You can do this; you're an awesome seamstress with so many things. I know this may not be soon, but you definitely would want to get it done before you have grandbabies 💐. Maybe if you can do something that you really enjoy (ie brief walk, etc), and when you are finished work on the quilt for a short period of time, and just pace yourself accordingly until you get it finished. Congrats on your new family 💗. You got this 🤗
My mother made a Cathedral Window Quilt, for a double bed, back in the early 1960s. That quilt was so heavy that no one wanted to sleep under it. It wasn't a warm quilt either. What ever become of that quilt, I don't know. It was beautiful. I don't know if she ever washed it. It would have been hard on any machine, or person, to wash it. I have made samples at quilt shows; but, I have never wanted to make large Cathedral Window Quilt; because, it takes a lot of fabric, it is heavy when finished, it is not warm to sleep under, and it would be very hard to get it clean. But, Cathedral Window quilts are beautiful. However, one day I want to make a Stained Glass double bed quilt.
*_Arvetta...yes heavy for sure... I have never slept with one.....I've always admired it for it's beauty.... makes a beautiful presentation for sure💛_*
Talking about it really helps. You can see the support you have, as a creator. If you see it as a wedding gift, sew with love and gift it with love. I usually find time to sew by waking up 2 hours before my family. It's peaceful and productive. Good luck, and I'm rooting for you in Alabama!
It is absolutely stunning. You gave it to your daughter as a wonderful outpouring of your love for her and her husband and for their life together. That love will help you finish it. We are all behind you.
You’ve done so much!!! I wish I could draw for you here the small activation energy required to get to the top of the hill and then just go quickly down the hill to the finish line! As soon as you can find a way to start, you will gain the momentum and enthusiasm to get it done! You get a Pandemic Pass on this one, for sure! (Also, it’s gorgeous.)
That is going to be a stunning quilt! What a labor of love! it is really beautiful you should be so very proud of what you've done. I like the idea of you using the finishing process as a tutorial for the rest of us. I have made cathedral window ornaments before and it was challenging and satisfying but man I can't imagine making an entire quilt. that being said the first quilt I ever made was a double wedding ring. Lol yeah I had no idea what I was doing yet it came out really nice fortunately it was only a twin size for my granddaughter and she still loves it to this day 12 years later. You have to finish this quilt!
Maybe set a goal for yourself to get so many blocks done a day-say, maybe, 4. That way, you are progressing, but it’s not so overwhelming! Also, I find sewing and listening to an audio book makes the process much more enjoyable. And finally, you have a whole bunch of people that want to see this done! It’s beautiful so far! Something I have never done, but now would like to try!! Nice to see you sharing the same struggles we all have faced!!
Thank you Kerry for all of the ideas! I have decided to finish it… And just like you said -set goals every day…✅ thank you so much for the much appreciated kind encouragement.💜❤️💛
That is absolutely beautiful! It looks like a very tedious job but think of the outcome. Your daughter is going to love it. Sometimes we just have to push ourselves....think of all your youtube family waiting for you to give us that step by step tutorial. Now get to it Tracy. Lol. Take care. ❤
*_💟It's DONE! It's DONE! 🥳Thank you! Thank you!💜Here's the link to the FULL TUTORIAL: _**_ua-cam.com/video/2etvGCgKoic_/v-deo.html*
Thank you so much for all of your kind feedback M53💛 it was an heirloom labor of love♥️
Looks beautiful!😊😊
Pray for me so I can get mine done hopefully maybe my boyfriend will never get it finished very helpful
And each fabric different makes a charm too! 👍❤
Such a precious quilt story💛💜♥️I could not imagine doing this quilt by hand😱 what a wonderful memory for your family 💛
*_Wow! Your Irish quilt story has inspired me! Way to go!!!🤓💟_*
I have a signature quilt that I made for my daughter's HS graduation in 2001.
Challenge accepted Pat!✅💛thank you!
You’re right about losing the drive if you give unfinished ✅ I think I’m gonna finish it now! I’ve gotten so much encouragement 💜💛
I love this quilt just as it is. The missing spaces can be saved for clothes from their children one day.
*_Thank you for the kind encouragement💟I appreciate the ideas too🤓_*
I have two sons who also got married during the COVID lockdown - within 6 weeks of each other.
*_Wow Mary....you've been busy. I love the Ohio Star...(not just because I live in Ohio either LOL) Your family will love them💜_*
Beautiful work and
Tons of love went into this.
I know your daughter will
Cherish years beyond us.
Please sign
Thank you so much Carol!♥️
I want to encourage you and my self. My husband passed 2 years ago. And I haven't been able to sew. I keep a sewing machine in my living room and I visit quilt shops and watch sewing shows so I will pray for you to finish your quilt and please finish it a king size.
*_Thank you so much Julie for your encouragement. I appreciate it very much💜_*
My husband also passed away 2 years ago 4/8/2019 after being married for over 48 years ... I feel your pain. 😘
If you love to sew, then sew and do it for him!
She loves it.💝😵😍🎊🎉
*_I'm so happy you finished 💙.....You are right-just keep plugging away at it✅_*
All I can say is WOW!!! What a lucky couple!
They are two very sweet people indeed!❤️💜♥️
My Cathedral Window quilt became a pillow. Yours is awesome.
*_Mine almost became 2 big pillow shams LOL...so I totally get the pillow idea LOL...I'm so glad you ended up making something with them though...way to go!✅_*
Same lol
Thank you so much for the encouragement!!!! Well received!!!❤️💜
Your quilt story is so similar to mine...thank you for sharing 💜🧡❤️ you are so right Deb- the time commitment was an afterthought for me too😱
That’s awesome that you won an award for it!!!YAY🥳🤩
The quilt is awesome. So glad you have the patience to do that.
I have a quilt I made for my grandsons graduation in 2020. He still doesn't have it. We were in the process of moving. We moved in late last year. Spent almost two years in our RV. I got it back from the quilter just before we left. All I have to do is cut the excess of and do the bonding. I haven't found it yet! Really long story. So I think you did great!
Congratulations. Your quilt is beautiful. It IS a dream come true. I know your daughter will cherish this stunning heirloom.
*_thank you so much txkniturse💙_*
Did you ever get the Sunbonnet Sue quilt finished? 🌷
@@susanmei9980 yes I did , when my sister was 16 she is now 59 and I will be 67 in 3 weeks
That is so BEAUTIFUL!!!!!😮 I want to learn how to make this. I think they are beautiful!!!!
Maybe the problem is you don't actually want to be done ,maybe the fun was in the making and the anticipation of it all ,it's absolutely stunning Tracy you really hit this out of the park 😍💕
*_Wow- thanks Amanda....I never thought of that....I may just not want it to be over...what an interesting thought.💟_*
@@TheSewingChannel funny thing is that's usually my problem 😂!
Sew on!
*_Your quilt sounds lovely...and hard. Thank you for your quilt story and kind words of encouragement💟_*
Wow! Very tedious and beautiful
I just love Cathedral windows. I made 2 pillowcases. I have 4 children quilts to still finish and I am expecting my first granddaughter next week. Fortunately she needs to be over 1 years. Still they must be finished. When you start yours I can start finishing mine
I’m starting mine today Karen! So you best get busy!💛💜
@@TheSewingChannel cannot first granddaughter being born next week and daughter is 12 hours from me. Will be visiting for 2 weeks. Enjoy
Thank you Jolene! I hear all the cheers!! I feel so motivated now! 💛🧡💙❤️
Thanks for sharing Katie! 💜✅
Thank you so much Linda for the kind encouragement! I appreciate it!🧡 and you go girl! I do hope you get yours finished as well.🤓👍🏼❤️
I love it! Try to set a goal of a few squares every day. Even if you do one everyday it will get done. It's beautiful and it needs to be enjoyed. I have stopped at the table runner size before, so you are almost done!
💕thank you Alexandra - I decided to set the goal for a handful every time I sit at the sewing machine👍🏼💜💛
*_Great idea to appreciate the parts that are complete💜_*
Please start back on this beautiful quilt. Your daughter will love it. You can do it. 😂
*_Thanks Gloria! When I told her I was going to upload a video on it.....she reminded me that it was her dream quilt too....💟_*

Over the past 25 years I have worked on one of these quilts. I have turned my quilt into many throw pillows. 😆
*_Excellent idea to turn into pillows✅_*
Please finish it is Gorgeous,,,, Sashing is your friend to enlarge it, it will also frame your beautiful work.
Thank you for the idea Nancy!💜
This pattern is my favorite also. When my grandmother passed away years ago she had one started and pieces in all the steps but no pattern! This was back in the 80's, so no Internet and I did not know any quilters at the time. My college room mate and I spent a long time trying to figure out how it went together. We finally worked out all the pieces and I made some small pillows for my family. You really should finish this quilt for your daughter and her husband. I know it will be a treasure for their family. I suggest you take all the left over pieces and make a table runner or something using Christmas fabrics and give it to your daughter. The quilt is beautiful!
*_Thank you so much for the encouragement and the idea for the extra pieces....I was wondering what to do with the extra...🧡_*
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this quilt. I had one given to me half done and I got lost trying to finish now I can
*_you're welcome Suzan💛Have fun finishing the 1/2 done quilt you were gifted✅_*
Beautiful quilt! I had “THAT” quilt. And it was just a simple disappearing nine patch. It was a king quilt. Finally after almost 3 years, I finished it. I am in love with it again. Your daughter will love it.
*_Awesome quilt story Sylvia!💜_*
Yes please a tutorial would be lovely. So happy you showed them on their Wedding Day. Hopefully you will find the umph to finish it.God will lead you!!
*_Thank you so much for the kind encouragement....✝️_*
I learned how to make this quilt when I was a teenager By all hand sewing I made a pillow case. lol
Thanks for commenting and for sharing Frances💛 it would have taken me years to make this quilt if I did it all by hand. 😱
I’m not a quilter but I appreciate the art. This is simply amazing. What an heirloom gift for your son and daughter in law.
*_Thank you Lorraine...I see it as an heirloom gift too💛_*
That quilt is beautiful. Please finish it. It will be something that they will love and cherish forever. You have done an awesome job with it. It will be a relief to finally have it done. You kids will love it.
*_I can't wait to finish to feel the relief.....💙Thank you_*
I made a queen size for my daughter.
Hi Tracy, Hope you finish this soon, what a labour of love. Cheers from Melbourne.
*_Yes...a labour of pure love for sure💜_*
I made a quilt similar to this one. I made it in honor of my mother’s memory on the date of her birthday. I took so much time to make but I love how it came out. Pinks and reds for her Valentine birthday. I will always treasure it.
*_Elisa that is such a beautiful / precious quilt story!💟thank you so much for sharing💜_*
Please make a tutorial on how you made this beautiful cathedral window quilt. This is just awesome. With what you showed I want to make one. Can not wait to see this finished beautiful quilt.
*_I will absolutely be having a tutorial coming soon💟_*
I agree with setting a timer everyday. Also maybe somehow arrange a group sew? It is beautiful.
*_Great idea.....It would be nice to know a "group of sewers" near me....💛_*
You really need to finish it. It’s beautiful and your daughter and her husband will cherish it forever!
Thank you💜
OMGosh... I completely understand. I am the queen of procrastination. I'm a great starter, but get bored quickly so I have quite a few UFOs. 😳🤣🙃 I would love to see a tutorial for this quilt... It's beautiful. I hope you find the inspiration to finish it..... Someday 😉
Thank you Lisa !💜
Please do a tutorial!!!!! AND FINISH THAT QUILT! I have one unfinished quilt top and it's my own king for my bed. I get it. You've lost interest in that quilt. But you have to finish it. Just get it over with
*_you are absolutely right Cindy!!! get it done and over....✅_*
Bless your heart, Tracy!
Here is the video link to my FULL tutorial 🧡 ua-cam.com/video/2etvGCgKoic/v-deo.html
In your voice, I hear your passion for the process of making this quilt. We all love fabric, so go find more beautiful fabrics and begin again as if this is a new quilt. Put your story in the final touch of a label and future generations will understand about a pandemic that happened and how it turned our lives upside down.
Thank you for the kind words of encouragement Laurel! 💜Great idea about the label too✅
You've done an amazing job!
Here's a bit of wisdom I read somewhere and passing it on.
Even a little at a time, let your project be finished, succeed or fail. Then you're free.
Only yours is a gorgeous success!
*_Well said!💟Thank you!_*
😉 Last but not least, I started embroidering a Peter Rabbit themed quilted
blanket during my first pregnancy.

Beautiful quilt. I WOULD LOVE A TUTORIAL ON THE cathedral quilt.
thank you
Barbara
This quilt is finished with full tutorial on my channel✅
*_Thank you for the kind words Laura.....Your'e right.....Unless someone makes a quilt -they don't understand. Thank you for the encouragement.💛_*
@@TheSewingChannel I have every faith that you will finish this quilt. Someone who puts in the work that you do on your UA-cam channel is no stranger to hard work and perseverance. I look forward to seeing the finished quilt!
Absolutely beautiful!
*_Thank you so much!🧡_*
I am so new at wanting to quilt that I cut my first fabric yesterday. Please please show us how to make! And finish your project. Love back is done when front is done!
*_Yes Lynn....as you process the 9.5" piece of fabric...it becomes the quilt top/batting/ and backing all in one! It finishes lovely for sure💝_*
Dear Lynn, be forewarned. Once you get bit by the quilting bug you can never turn back! I admonish God that He just better have some fabric and a sewing machine when I get to heaven. LOL Welcome.
😂
I have another great grand child due in October- have started, then stopped, then started - NOW, to get it to the quilter and back in time - Baby will come SO< today I will get some more blocks completed. I will. I will. I will.
YOU WILL!💜
This is absolutely beautiful and I cannot wait to see the finished project, because you WILL finish it. You have put way too much work in to it and just imagine that pride you will feel when it’s completed!
Thank you Robina 💜
It looks amazing. I am sure they will love it no matter when you give it to them. You got this! I have to many projects going on. I also make to many things for other people and don’t make enough for myself
*_That could be my problem too.....1 too many projects going on!✅_*
I teach English to young students in China.
*_Thank you so much....I love your quilt story💟Stay strong to you Mrs McDonald🧡_*
I love Cathedral Window - on my bucket list ♡
I *_have always adored the vintage cathedral window quilt.....I first saw it in an antique shop and immediately knew I wanted to make one💟_*
You got this 🤗
*_Thank you Elizabeth for the kind encouragement💛and thank you for the great ideas!_*
@@TheSewingChannel You're welcome. You inspire so many people. Thank you for all that you do. I can't wait to see your finished quilt 💗 *hugs
Simply blows my mind xx
YOU CAN DOOOOOOOO IT!!! ONE PIECE AT A TIME. It's 😍 gorgeous!
*_Yes! Thank you!💜_* One piece at a time....✅
Wow this a beautiful quilt & the time effort money & love you have put into this Its a family treasure ❤👏
*_Thank you Becky 💜_*
You can do it!!! Just do a few at a time
*_Thank you Trinette💙_*
Talking about it really helps. You can see the support you have, as a creator. If you see it as a wedding gift, sew with love and gift it with love. I usually find time to sew by waking up 2 hours before my family. It's peaceful and productive. Good luck, and I'm rooting for you in Alabama!
*_The support here is amazing....I'm so grateful💟 Thank you for the encouragement🤓_*
It is absolutely stunning. You gave it to your daughter as a wonderful outpouring of your love for her and her husband and for their life together. That love will help you finish it. We are all behind you.
*_Thank you Karen for such kind encouragement.....The love that started it will be the love that finishes it 💟_*
You’ve done so much!!!
*_It's done YAY! here's the link to the new video! _**_ua-cam.com/video/2etvGCgKoic_/v-deo.html**_ Thank you so much💟_*
That is going to be a stunning quilt!
*_I agree Nancy- challenging and satisfying all at the same time✅ I have yet to do the double wedding ring so that may just be my next quilt😀_*
Wow, that is gorgeous! You are so talented. Can't wait to see the end results.
*_Thank you🧡 ...I can't wait to see the end result either LOL_*
Lol. Take care. ❤
*_🧡Thank you Anna! And the teacher in me wants to show everyone! LOL_*
