That was brilliant. Nicely paced and easy to follow. HWMBI (He Who Must Be Ignored) has hundreds of neck ties he no longer wears since his retirement so I'm going to cut them to use in the windows. I doubt he'll even notice ha ha. Compliments to the camera man too. He caught all the action and kept it in good focus. Thank you.
An excellent quilter gave me this pattern in 1980s, I've not been confident enough to make, but, now I'm ready to tackle this. Has been on my Bucket list now will start in 2024, yeah! Thank you
I've watched a ton of how to videos on making a cathedral window quilt/pillow. Yours is the only one that shows marking the diagonal lines with a marking pen and sewing along that line. First I tried the method of folding the points of the squares to the center and then joining the squares by sewing along the crease line. That seems to be the most popular method but I wasn't completely satisfied with my results. I then tried your method and I feel I got a better result. My sewed together squares were more accurate. So I thank you for taking the time to make this video showing an alternative way of doing this. It's how I will be doing any future cathedral window projects.
This is a really great tutorial! Thanks so much. I am currently making a baby quilt in a different Cathedral Window quilt method (all done with 3.5" cut squares) and I am loving it ... your method is more like the traditional hand sewn blocks and I really like it too. I might give your method a try for a pillow.
Wow, you did a great job, both sewing and demonstrating! I tried to make this block a few years ago, unsuccessfully, and never tried it again. Nimble fingers is a must for this. You did a super job. Can’t imagine making a quilt! Thanks for the explanation.👍
I've always wanted to make a cathedral window quilt but it has intimidated me for years! But after watching you, I think I will try it on a small scale and go from there! Thank you for a fantastic video!!
Wow, it’s so beautiful, a lot of work. Beyond my talent but I wish I could create a masterpiece like that. Thank you for sharing from Innisfil Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Cathedral Window quilts are my favorite ones to do. Great job showing how it is done. Love your choice in colors, I like to hand sew the final stage, busy work in the evening in front of the TV.
Thank you! I have made some of these (quite a few years ago) and wanted to do more now. I had used a combination of machine and hand sewing. Looking forward to using your method! Beautiful job of explaining!
This was very well presented. You make it seem quite doable. Before I ever started quilting, the two blocks I was drawn to were flying geese and cathedral windows. I've made lots of flying geese, but haven't attempted the cathedral windows. I think the stitching order of sewing down the curves has me intimidated. Nice video.
Excellent close up and explaining! I just beginning so I've watched & studied this pattern and you have done the best so I'm sticking with your way . Yours looks the best also.
My Great Grandmother made one for everyone of us that was named after her. But I was the last one and I did not get one. So she told me how to make it but I don't remember the sizes of the background square and the color square. She did everything by hand for all of the quilts. Can you please tell me what sizes you used for yours?
Дякую за детальний майстер- клас. Давно хочу пошити наволочку на подушку в техніці "Кафедральне вікно". Проте ніяк не могла зрозуміти в чому головний секрет. Щиро вам дякую 🌷🇺🇦
Thank you Ruth! I’m going to practice on my new machine. You have inspired me! Everything about this video was outstanding! And subscribed! Please, Is that a muslin backing?
Beautiful! This is a bucket list quilt for me and you made it look so easy and manageable. I missed how big the window squares are that lay on top of the muslin. Can you let me know please. Thank you so much.
Thank you. Do you have a video on how to finish the pillow? And how do you determine the muslin square size if you were to use mini charms or charm size inner squares.
See the video on ‘ the sewing channel’. She used 2 1/2 inch squares I believe. I find it works better as you aren’t folding over the coloured square as well as the white edges. Then you won’t have the problem of some coloured pieces popping out that you have to trim later. And also, you can use those precut 2.5 “ squares if you have them. Im no expert, I’m just beginning one and researching the best method that works for me.
When making a large quilt do you make a row the full length of the quilt and then join it to another strip the same length until you get the with you want?
What sizes of squares were used in the all hand made quilt? My Great Grandmother told me when I was a lot younger than I am now. But I have forgotten what she said. For some reason I want to say the big one was 8" × 8" and the color ones were 2" × 2". Can you tell me?
If I wanted to make a quilt would I use the nine block segments and then attach them all together at the end? I figured if I made 16 those that would be a 70 x 70 finished quilt. Am I correct in thinking this?
Yes, I made 8 block segments, then joined them in rows, then joined the rows together. I have to admit it was a bear sewing those middle rows together but it turned out beautiful.
I’ve been researching the best method on UA-cam videos to do my own quilt. On ‘ the sewing channel’ she did a lovely quilt. I think she said it was 30 -40 yards of just the white fabric ( 360- 9.5 “ squares) and 360 - 2.5 “ coloured squares to do a quilt 85” x 89 “. It’s a mammoth project but what a beautiful keepsake.
Thank you for this tutorial. I just started on making this project. I tried your method and I find it to be a lot easier. The problem I am having is the background fabric. When I sewed the ends to make square and turn them right side out, they looked like I cut them on the bias. What am I doing wrong?
@@rwquilts I pressed the corners and even used spray starch. Also, I restitched the ends. That didn’t work. Thank you so much for replying. I love ❤️ your way of making this gorgeous quilt!!

Beautiful! My grandmother made this quilt all by hand sewing. It has always been my aspiration to make one…but with my machine.😂

Thank you for the close up video shots. I really appreciate being able to see how you turn at the corners where it gets tight. Well done.

I am fascinated by the cathedral patch work always.
The background piece is 9 * 9 inches, what is the sizeof the centre coloured ones pls
@@sagarikak9315 you may have found out by now, but comments above say 2 5" window squares.
Yayh finally someone who has a mind to how much thread she is waisting. You go girl.
First, I love your sewing table. Second, great tutorial and editing. You are a good teacher!
This is the first time I watched how this is done. You make it look so easy. You did a beautiful job. Thanks.

Super fabulous, very nice work & color choice. Thanks for sharing great explanation.

GREAT CAMERA work! Its helpful to get right in there and really see
Thanks
Thank you for this tutorial. I love the Cathedral Window quilt. I never thought about marking the sewing line. You made it look so easy!
The small pieces like this were pretty easy. Joining rows of 6 of these segments to one another was tricky.

Thank you for showing this way to make the cathedral windows
Really great tutorial - thank you 🪡🧵😍
Great tips thanks for sharing!
Thank you for taking the trouble to put a vid up. I’ve not seen it done this way, interesting. Love the turquoise and white 👍.
So beautiful tutorial I want to make one now. Thank you ❤️

Thank you for sharing how to do the cathedral block. It looks like I may be able to do this, I will be very slow. I will have to start very small.🤭🥰

Please, Is that a muslin backing?
Beauty...what is the size of the center piece( teal)
Lovely tutorial, thank you! Quick question-what kind of presser foot are you using? I love it. Thank you.
It’s called a walking foot.
Beautiful! This is a bucket list quilt for me and you made it look so easy and manageable. I missed how big the window squares are that lay on top of the muslin. Can you let me know please. Thank you so much.
The window squares were cut 2.75”. Let me know how it goes.

TYVM RUTHIE. COULDN'T FIND MY BOOK
Really nice work!!!! Question: 1, how big of those square,4"? 2, How big the 'pillow case' ended up, 18?
When making a large quilt do you make a row the full length of the quilt and then join it to another strip the same length until you get the with you want?
Yes, I made enough of this size to make a row, then sewed them together.
What sizes of squares were used in the all hand made quilt? My Great Grandmother told me when I was a lot younger than I am now. But I have forgotten what she said. For some reason I want to say the big one was 8" × 8" and the color ones were 2" × 2". Can you tell me?
I used 9” and 2-3/4”
If I wanted to make a quilt would I use the nine block segments and then attach them all together at the end? I figured if I made 16 those that would be a 70 x 70 finished quilt. Am I correct in thinking this?
I think you may have to make more then 16, maybe 5x5 or 25.
Hi can I use the 9 square to make a much bigger quilt, by just adding more each side.
Yes, I made 8 block segments, then joined them in rows, then joined the rows together. I have to admit it was a bear sewing those middle rows together but it turned out beautiful.
@@rwquilts Thank you I am really looking forward to making my quilt - God Bless

How many of those panels does it take to make a queen size quilt? How many yards of material for the quilt
I really don’t know. I was given a partial quilt to finish.
I’ve been researching the best method on UA-cam videos to do my own quilt. On ‘ the sewing channel’ she did a lovely quilt. What size are the colored squares?
Almost 2.75”
What size small square do you use.
2.75”
Ruth what's the size of the coloured squares
They were 2.75”. I had to trim a bit on some of them.
Thank you for this tutorial. I just started on making this project. I tried your method and I find it to be a lot easier.
