Wrong, the remember what it was like to be teenagers, however they didn't have the same upbringing as their children. My parents started working when they were as young as 10 years old, it was illegal for me to get a job younger than 14 years old.
Sadly, there are no tests that one needs to take and pass in order to become a parent. There are so many parents out there who are terrible, and should never have had children, but it still happened.
I’m a parent of a teen and this was informative. And quite honestly, these are so obvious and find it fascinating that in this day and age where so many parenting books are available and so much information in general is available parents still speak to their kids this way. Where's things like "It's just a phase" or "you'll be fine" Just because you're a teenager doesn't mean any emotion is a "phase". If you're upset people shouldn't just assume it's because of puberty or something like that.
'You dissappointed me very much.' A phrase that litterally drains my soul, because I cannot do anything to end the situation IN THAT MOMENT, and I have to live with that horrible feeling of hurting my mom, or not being able to talk to her for a little painful while. I know that EVERYONE demands A LOT from the parents, especially their children, that don't understand them... I just think that parents should expect at everything from their kids, even if they are smart, quiet, etc., so the parents can overcome easily or avoid completely that feeling of dissappointment. I mean, everyone makes mistakes or bad things that are usually not in their behaviour, but it happens to everyone, the parents can talk with their teens about that, in order to understand the reason of their imprevisible actions.
Adi Adi I agree if they are never telling you when they are proud of you. I know some parents always communicate the negative and never good. But loving parents who have good balance on support and encouragement are the best people to learn how to handle disappointment from. Better that you learn from someone who also loves you even though they are disappointed than from your future employer whom you are counting on to have money to pay for bills and food but could always get someone else to do your job (same apples to customers if you have your own business). Learning how to handle it and grow from it will make you stronger in the long run.
@@ClaireRader They always tell me when they are proud or dissappointed, but I know that they love me VERY much, that's why their feelings are so strong. And that's why I feel so bad when I hear that phrase, because I know I hit in their love, I did not even thought at that (eventually I just thought at myself and I made something bad, like, always going to bed late, just because I want), and they will keep that feeling inside their souls for some time. My parents are optimistic and support me, but my mom is very sensitive, and she tells me dirrectly if I dissappointed her; honestly, I never heard my dar saying that to me, but however, I think he would find another way to make me know it.

im a shy teen and i’ve been giving vERY obvious signs to my mom that i am feeling bad and bored and tired and she just says “so am i!? *nervous giggle*” or “and what do you want me to do about that..” and that maked me even sa-a-a-a-addeeer~
"I love you, but i cant trust you anymore" that hurt SO much when my dad said that just because i have bad grades and i say i will do better but its fkin hard....
Things my mom says: “You know I can’t laugh at everything you say!” “I’m sorry hunny, I’m working right now” “oh sorry sweetie, what did you say?” “That’s normal, it’ll go away soon” “Your smart, you’ll figure it out” “Okay! That’s enough!” “It’s only funny once” “I don’t want to right now, I’m busy” *”I’M TIRED, NOT NOW”*
I get that all of these except for the last phrase has a nice-like approach, I still feel like it's just another way they don't accidentally swear at us It's no surprise, seeing as because my parents always say these lines whenever me and them fight, my relationship to them is to the point I literally don't want to be around them.
Look at my reply to the kid above, the EXACT same thing applies to you. Share this with your parent, it will help them to understand your feelings and help them to treat you with respect. Good luck!
Ya I have one think I would like u to add BRIGHT SIDE.... It is that parents want you to be perfect...in everything... Studies... Sports...active all the time and ready to anything.... No rest...no sign of laziness and be ready to accept any request like an invitation to a marathon! This just feels so wrong...how can I or anyone be perfect and ACT UP TO THEIR EXPECTATIONS! They want everything inside Me...90% in studies...gold medals in sports...ready for some physical activity even if u are tired to the minimum!
That’s kinda the thing most parents want of their child, to be successful, but don’t let it bother you, just keep going, find your own passion, I’m sure your parent will be happy either way!
I am a teenager and 7 actually helps me. It is completely untrue in my case. And the other “more helpful” compliments actually ticked me off. If someone said you work so hard, it would make me feel like they thought I didn’t understand it and needed a lot of time and/or help to get it. Now this is just me personally, but my point is every teen is different and you don’t have to, and you shouldn’t, follow these 9 things to the “T”.
My gosh, my parents have said ALL 9 THINGS to me all the time! I’m now 22 years old & im still lost & confused on my passions. And when I saw this video I was like...’no wonder!!!’
@S M , these are parents who HOVER over all aspects of their child's life rarely allowing him or her any independence to learn life experiences. It's a controversial concept since it conflicts with certain cultural beliefs where parents stay involved in their kids lives, especially with the School System and Medical Systems.
Natalie Harris I'm sorry that your parents call you names. Name calling is NEVER appropriate. Please don't imitate their behavior when you are an adult. And never, never stay in a relationship with someone who calls you names when you are old enough to be out on your own. ❤️❤️
My mom, who had hormonal disorders when she was my age and thus never really acted irrationally, constantly tells me that it’s impossible to understand me or people my age in my generation. It makes me happy to know that there are people who can openly analyze teenagers, and they can admit that, yes, it is indeed possible to understand people my age and not treat them like aliens.
I recognize myself in these. It is so true. It breaks the self esteem of a child. So much it could lead to depression, self hatred, low self esteem and fear of failure. As a mother I finally let go of all of these limitations and learned to love myself. I learned it is like this because in the culture I grew up in it is a normal thing to do. It can even get worser at least my parents eventually accepted my choices in work and stuff. So that’s a good thing. I tend to do things differently with my kids. Never project your own insecurity to your own kids. Love yourself and be proud!
If i show this video to my parents they will certainly say « How could you do this to us, we are not bad parents » and then i will show down my emotions like always, smile, hug them and then say « of course mom and dad, i love you , you are the best» and go to my bedroom to cry silently........sad reality........😓🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳.
Try and do your best to stop this game. Find the right words and explain the whole thing to your parents. One at the time or together is ok. What they do is mild manipulation. They probably don't have bad intentions. Be calm and sure of yourself. They love you too. 🌞
My parents always compare me with my marks its not just today story it is from 5yrs of my age. they beat me ... They Hurt Me... They always try to compare me I heard this complement from many kids "My parents are best parents in the world" but I *can't* say this uhhh 😞😞
Its ok. I didnt know how to race a child. And had 5... im blunt and they are perfect. All went to collage and the 2 last highschooler and elementary and the las 4 said thank you mom for telling me how it is. It all depends on there personalities and with love and wise advice you'll be ok.
Honestly, I feel like "Don't be so emotional" is one of the worst things a parent could say to a teen because of course its natural for a teen to be emotional and be encouraged sensitively to get over those emotions
Im legit crying rn. The " your so smart" one really got to me. I really wanna become a singer but am (not bragging I swear) really smart too. Growing up in the home that I am in everyone wants me to become a doctor but I want to do something that I love. But I dont know if this is the safe way. Another one that spoke to me is the find your passion one. I already know what my passion is its just that idk if singing will make me successfull😭

Matthew Gupta you are right! He grew up in a whole different way of parenting I loved him then and still do . I miss him and my mom! My mom lived 1928-2018. My dad 1930-2013. Sigh! They changed as time went by. I remember but don’t condemn. It was mostly emotionally disturbing but I did not pass that parenting style on to my own children nor do my children pass it on to my grand children. We are blessed. Thanks for your reply. All the best to you.
I don't have a parent but I have been adopted, and experienced far worse than this. But right now I have my own family, I always understood what I want back then and right now I'm doing all I can for my children not to experience my suffering before as an orphan, and I always try to give the love and understanding for my kids. In this world, it's either you live with hatred in your heart or forgive and accepts the things that happens so that you can know what is the right thing to do. life is short and everyone leaves this place and do the things before you regret it is too late. have a good day with you all.
I'm a mom. Sometimes studying, especially with your tv or music on, or using your phone (even if it's for your homework) looks like you're just doing "nothing". Maybe try saying that you're studying, "could I have another_____ minutes to finish, please? " I would bet the answer would be yes. Just make sure to follow through on your agreement and go do the chores. Parents like to make those agreements, as long as the promise is kept. If not, they won't give a second chance, it feels like you're taking advantage of us
I absolutely love this video. It really shows how teens feel when parents says these type of phrases. I know parents are trying to mold us into a mature person for the real world but, sometimes the things they say, hurts us children. 😁

When your parents get mad at you for failing even when you tried so hard. They think i don't try. I'm literally trying just for them
Sad
Where's things like
"It's just a phase" or "you'll be fine"
Just because you're a teenager doesn't mean any emotion is a "phase". If you're upset people shouldn't just assume it's because of puberty or something like that.
My dad told me: "You won't make the same mistakes we made, you will make another set on your own." He was pretty much right!
'You dissappointed me very much.'
A phrase that litterally drains my soul, because I cannot do anything to end the situation IN THAT MOMENT, and I have to live with that horrible feeling of hurting my mom, or not being able to talk to her for a little painful while.
Adi Adi , my parents called my Satanism a phase. 20+ years later, my mother has grown to accept it.

It's so funny, the amazing intelligent people that come up with this stuff have no children of their own.
That’s kinda the thing most parents want of their child, to be successful, but don’t let it bother you, just keep going, find your own passion, I’m sure your parent will be happy either way!
Wow....My father should have seen this way before I was born....
I am a teenager and 7 actually helps me. It is completely untrue in my case. And the other “more helpful” compliments actually ticked me off. If someone said you work so hard, it would make me feel like they thought I didn’t understand it and needed a lot of time and/or help to get it. Now this is just me personally, but my point is every teen is different and you don’t have to, and you shouldn’t, follow these 9 things to the “T”.
my parents are the cause of 95% of my breakdowns

@S M , these are parents who HOVER over all aspects of their child's life rarely allowing him or her any independence to learn life experiences. It's a controversial concept since it conflicts with certain cultural beliefs where parents stay involved in their kids lives, especially with the School System and Medical Systems.

Another one that I find hurtful is when your parents get really mad at you and start calling you names. Anyone had that happen to them?
Natalie Harris I'm sorry that your parents call you names. Name calling is NEVER appropriate. Please don't imitate their behavior when you are an adult. And never, never stay in a relationship with someone who calls you names when you are old enough to be out on your own. ❤️❤️
Cathy Jordan, that has oy happened a few times, but still
My mom, who had hormonal disorders when she was my age and thus never really acted irrationally, constantly tells me that it’s impossible to understand me or people my age in my generation. It makes me happy to know that there are people who can openly analyze teenagers, and they can admit that, yes, it is indeed possible to understand people my age and not treat them like aliens.
Phrase to avoid:"go do the dishes"
The 2nd one always hits me hard.I hear it regularly....
I think all they wanted is for you to be obedient and thats how it came out.

My mom loves to say the second phrase.

Especially when they scream before hearing you. Understanding is what’s missing in every family. And I feel really sad about it.
Sometimes if u have chores but u r busy doing something like studying, a parent would say HEY YOU FORGOT TO DO YOUR CHORES DO THEM NOW
