Moto Technique - The EVO Program

  • To celebrate our 40th Anniversary we are launching our Restomod and Upgrade Service.
    For nearly 35 years we restored all our customer cars virtually nut and bolt perfect to period correct specification.
    Most modern cars are now too big, too powerful and too clinical. Some say, too sterile.
    Clients are now approaching us and telling us how much they love classics like the Dino 246 and Ferrari 308, but these cars are getting on for 40 and 50 years old. They want to drive them, but they also want modern standards of power, handling and reliability, whilst retaining the charm and character of the original.
    At Moto Technique we have probably restored, repaired or upgraded more Dino’s and Ferrari 308’s than anyone else in the UK.
    We really do know these cars inside out and back to front.
    That’s why we know all the areas where we can improve these wonderful machines and adapt them with more modern upgrades that just were not available at the time of manufacture or not viable for a production car due to cost effectivness.
    Our EVO Program is bespoke and based on a menu system of different specifications and finishes.
    This program really is limited only by a customer’s imaginations.

    The 308 first captured my attention when I was a child and came across one parked in a driveway. I sat on my bicycle and stared at it for hours. For me, it’s THE car. Thank you. Restomoding Dinos, 308's and other cars from that era is almost a natural evolution and no brainer, where big improvements are achieved in power, handling and drivability.
      The F355 is a great car dynamically to start with (Even if it is today a 26 year old design) and was under Luca Di Montezemolo leadership, Ferrari's first modern built car that started a new era in the way they built sports cars, which has continued to evolve right up to today.
      So with a F355 it will be a matter of refining what is already there. the performance jump would not be as great, (A 355 engine in standard spec already produces 111BHP per litre Naturally aspirated) but improvements can always be made in all areas.
      Remember this service is bespoke to your requirements and it is our job to fulfil them.

    When I see workmanship like this, I wish I had the money to throw at companies, I don't know why but I've always had this little dream in the back of my head to have a modernized Ferrari Mondial, something with more modern performance and handling in a Mondial package, a Ferrari most won't even look a second time at as it's probably one of the less popular models they got, probably why I just really like it.

    • @admiralackbar4652

      @@admiralackbar4652 I honestly don't know, I've always loved strange cars, so I'm the sort that like the Fiat Multipla, or the Pontiac Aztec. But for the Mondial I think it's more that it's an underestimated Ferrari, no one seems to even think about it, and when they do it's because it's "bad."
      Sure, it's not a Testarossa or a F40 in it hanging on bedroom walls, but I just kinda find it charming in a way, so if I could get a Mondial that has been modernized, to have more modern comfort, electronics, suspension, drivetrain, etc. That would have been the Ferrari most tempting to me, alongside a 400i which is also one you don't hear that much about, but looks really cool.

      When these cars were first launched back in the mid 70's they were state-of-the-art in terms of power and handling, and although their beautiful Italian styling is ageless and gets better with time, engine power and engine management along with handling and braking have moved on with the times.
      We totally agree these cars should be preserved as they were when they were new and here at Moto Technique we have most probably restored or repaired to original period correct specification more Dino 246's and Ferrari 308/328 than anybody else in the UK.
      You must also remember that we are a customer driven business and what we have found is that are customer are demanding classic sports cars, but with modern standards of power, handling, braking and reliability.
      Its a testament to Ferrari and their brilliant engineering that they produced these wonderful V8 gems of an engine along with the transmission that lend themselves so well to being upgraded with 21st Century standards which make them virtually bulletproof nearly 50 years after they were first produced.
      It is a pleasure to work on them.

      I completely agree. If you want those massive 360 brakes, you need wheels big enough to go over them. Personally I’d sacrifice on the brakes to retain a more balanced, period look. These look like Image Split Rims F40 3-piece replica wheels. I saw they had a Stratos Group 4 wheel on another car. So many choices!

      @@matthewchandler2647 Thank you for your comments Matthew and well spotted on the Stratos Group 4 "Coffin Wheels".
      As on the Black David Lee Dino V8, we can take any period wheel that in period may only have been produced in 14 or 15 inch versions, 3D Scan it and then by using the latest computer technology re-size them and recast them, for example, to 17 inches. Being a bespoke service it is always the clients final choice as to what they want to do. "Today's cars are so sterile". It's only gonna get worse from here. I'd say it's only a matter of time until cars you can pilot yourself are made illegal. Politicians will quote traffic fatalities and fuel consumption numbers in order to get it pushed through, but as soon as the self driving car is perfected, which isn't too far off, the ability to steer our cars ourselves will be on a time limit. It will make the roads much safer, it will help with traffic (quite a bit actually) and it will result in cars using less energy to drive, but my God what a sad day that will be.

      People who rode horses thought the same thing about our era. But they never imagined a Ferrari 308. Before you spend too much emotional equity lamenting a bleak future, consider that you haven’t considered everything, and that humans will still design their world to satisfy their senses- as we always have.

    I'll say that the larger wheels and low profile tyres aren't my taste on classic cars - personally I think it spoils the look. But I understand this done to customer request, and I'm guessing the wheels had to be larger to house the F360 brakes. Otherwise, a stunning looking thing - beautiful paint work and a gorgeous interior. Well done! You have another subscriber!

      Hi Michael. Thank you for your kind words. You are correct in that the larger wheels are there to accommodate the larger brake disc and callipers. Our bespoke service offers a range a wheels that can be adapted to the larger brakes and callipers, including the 3D scanning of period correct wheels and recasting them to the larger size. The final choice is always the prerogative of the client. Everything is possible and limited only by your imagination. 😉👍🏼

    Can a similar spec be had for the equivalent of a showroom 488? Donor car in/excluded?

    • @mototechnique1282
      @mototechnique1282  3 роки тому

      Thank you for your question. Each and every restomod that we produce is different and completed to the individual specification of our clients. Every single aspect of the car can be addressed: Engine, Transmission, Handling, Interior Trim, Paintwork etc. Depending on the condition of the donor car and specification requested, the answer is both yes and no. It can be considerably less and considerably more depending on your requirements. If you have a serious enquiry, please feel free to contact us via our website: www.mototechnique.com

    This car looks so beautiful in green! Isn't power steering a driver aid though?

    • @mototechnique1282
      @mototechnique1282  3 роки тому +3

      Yes, you are correct. On the original car with regular tyres is was not necessary, but with the wider more modern sticky tyres it's a must. The Power steering is beautifully weighted and is speed sensitive, so you don't really know it's there.

    • @HollywoodF1
      @HollywoodF1 3 роки тому +2

      Driver aids, by modern definition, provide a measure of control over the vehicle that the driver would otherwise not have access to. ABS, Torque-vectoring, yaw-control, and traction control come to mind. At minimum, the driver would need four brake pedals and a lever to control the differential to even have access to these types of vehicle controls. Driver aids add new types of input to the car that previously did not exist. The steering wheel is a control the driver already has. Powering it does not change the input or the output that the car receives, it simply lessens the effort on the driver’s arms.

    Good to see one doesn't need to ship the car off to the US to get it properly restomodded. Interesting colour choice on this one. I would have gone for a lighter shade, like viper green, or blu chiaro turquoise. Nah, who am I kidding, I'd have chosen red. And either 16" QV wheels or those lovely gold Michelotto-spec wheels briefly seen in the video (with more of a taper to the extended wheelarches, rather than the rally-car cylindrical shape). Has the car been lowered to improve the CoG? Does the EPAS provide the same level of feedback as a good hydraulic power steering system and does it deactivate at speed?

    Do you do the GTO-izing of the body? Is that a part of some standard package?

    • @mototechnique1282
      @mototechnique1282  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Ross and thank you for your question. Firstly, there is no "Standard" package as each car is unique and custom made to the owners specification. The body modifications to this particular car included Group 4 rear wheel arches to accommodate the wider wheel (This was carried out in mild steel in our bodyshop using traditional panel beating skills) and it has a carbon fibre engine cover and front boot lid for rigidity and weight saving. If a GTO style bodywork was requested this could be accommodated in either Kevlar or Carbon Fibre.
