I think after ~2 years of getting into HiFi stuff I’ve learned that I don’t think I hear a difference of files past CD quality but..... big numbers are fun. Big numbers go brrrrrr
your hearing is not at fault; look into the Nyquist Limit / Frequency if you'd like to learn more. at the very least i would strongly urge you to take a look at this video:
ua-cam.com/video/pWjdWCePgvA/v-deo.html
regardless of how many samples are taken an identical sine wave will always be produced so long as there is at least one sample per the rise and fall of the wave. big numbers definitely can be fun, but this is just something worth bearing in mind to prevent unnecessary worry and/or money spent. :)
Can’t hear the difference between 24 bit and 300kbps and 24 bit and 32 bit
@@Fwit69420 i can....its subtle, but I can tell. The sound clears up and is more fluid/clear the higher you go. Its like a curse that I can hear the difference, because once you can tell the difference between rates, its hard to *just* do cd quality
I very much agree with Z on the bass boost on the ifi. I own the ifi Zen DAC and I always leave the bass boost on. So great.
I'll defend ifi's recessed male pin to death. It's even better than USB-C, it nests the OTG cable perfectly.
X bass is the reason I keep an ifi product around.
So far the Zen Can is the best value for this but I’m hoping they release the matching Neo iCan.
I bought the zen can as a first amp, was it a good choice?
@@nonenothing4412 That all depends on your tastes and budget but I think it’s a good choice.
While the Zen Can sounds good especially for its price there’s a clear difference when I compare it to my Feliks Euforia amp.
@@jpined14 i like how it drives ksc75, shp9500, hd280, 1more triple driver over ear, even iems like Fiio EX1, KZ ZSX. Thanks for the input. Your amp looks great but not in my price range for some time)) happy new year!!!
iFi iDSD Diablo just came out! Btw, loving the D1090.
Zeos why you make me want things I don't need?
Its a gift
We need a best bang for your buck to kick off 2021 ! Congrats on your growth in 2020 but I would be lying if I didn't say I miss the old place .A little bit !
The BTR5 is great for those 10 hour driving stints. Just clip it to the seatbelt and use the balanced output and you're good to go. Would definitely take that Ifi on the road though for when I'm parked and want to bust out the HE400i Hifimans.
The bottom of this unit is like the door panel of a ricer and im all for it😂
You'd be jealous of my Honda.
facts...I thought this too
Same as ifi micro idsd black label, they don't say its portable, they say its TRANSportable xD
Yeah, I don't get why he wouldn't mention it's practically a Micro BL, which he's already reviewed in the past.
Except it’s got balanced 4.4mm…
@@akqr8 and many other changes yes
As an owner of the original iFi Micro iDSD BL, this unit is suspiciously identical in many many ways. The size is the same, the switchable functions are the same, but most importantly the power specs are nearly identical as well (4000mW @16ohm BL vs 4100mW @16ohm Signature). It really seems like iFi just made the signature as a refresh of the BL but with the 3.5mm combined coax port and a balanced headphone output in the front. I suspect that they didn't list different SE vs balanced power is because it's not a fully balanced circuit inside with the two outputs pushing the same power like the SMSL SP200 did (coincidentally also something I own), because the older BL definitely pushed the 4W out the SE.
Looks similar to iDSD black label, thanks for your detailed review!!
Happy new year to you and your family
It is the "signature" version of the black label basically
@@tenveri Yeah thank you for your kind reply :)
Wish you and your family a very happy new year!!

Will zeos ever understand that this male USB connector is for the Apple camera connection kit which is the only otg adapter that works for iOS devices?
Lotoo has an MFI Certified Lightning-to-USB-A cable that works without the CCK.
@@arrakian I think it works different. The fiio portable dac/amps also come with a lightning to usb micro/usb c cables but it only works with their own product as the lotoo which only works with their s1 dac amp. The CCK works with every device and i think companies are not allowed to copy the CCK technonogy (which is stupid and annoying)
@Shinidoshi yeah but there unfortunately is no universal lightning to USB adapter, only the Apple CCK works universally
@Shinidoshi If iPhones will ever switch to USB C (which won't happen when they do a portless iPhone) it should work with normal otg adapters like the ipad pro with its usb c port does. But for now, the only possibility to get 'hi-res' content from you iphone to a dac is via this stupid apple CCK. This would be fine for me if they had high bitrate blutooth codecs but, as we all know, your're stuck with only AAC on iOS devices which is kinda dumb. I think even the airpods max would benefit from higher bitrate but apple probably thinks normal people wouldn't care.
@@juliangst I don’t know if Fido’s is fully certified. I’ve tried mine with a Lotoo S1, a xDuoo XD05, Fiio Q3, and a Qudelix 5K. All have worked with this cable -from my iPhone/iPad.
Another way you can make it Bluetooth, attached BTR5 to it. That’s what I did with my XDuoo05 Plus.
At that point you might as well USB connect it to your phone and be done with it.
Just plugged the iFi Micro iCAN SE in yesterday, for Thieaudio Phantom, like the sounds. LOL
ifi amps have been doing single-ended 4W a channel since the iCAN SE. Then the DSD black label, etc.
I put velcro on mine and velcro it to the back of my phone and use a Lil baby USB to usb-c connector
I do this with my xDuoo XD-05 Plus. 😁
If you have the black label it's not that worth the upgrade from what I read.
I've never been more nervous for a review
Sir if that Bluetooth adapter worked then I’ll buy both thanks so much God bless.😇🙏
You can use the TOPPING BC3 to add Bluetooth, it has digital output . You welcome
I have terrible luck with ifi. Returned 3 defective products this year!
Down for an MQA podcast. Bind test if you can hear the unfolds too!
So in terms of sound quality,,... This or the dethronray honey??
Zeos three years ago you made a video of a unit with identical characteristics was ifi micro idsd black label. what are the differences?
this is the updated version, it has 4.4mm output for one thing. new color and new price lol
@@tenveri Sound much better than the old one in every aspect and have touch of warmth, I even prefer it over my A90 stack , IDSD pro stack
@@barood7588 Was thinking of getting the A90 stack but now I’ll have to reconsider 🙂
@@diederick-fritzojeda2529 Not worth for desktop use, the charging connection doesn’t bypass the battery so you’ll have to charge it every time, not like the old bl you can use the unit and charge simultaneously. Also for A90 stack is great dont get me wrong it’s perfect linear and analytical for me it’s not fun for daily use since I game and watch movies and listen to music. I think IFI have something on they’re mind for desktop use to be released soon I guess might be better than the signature too.
I just bought the new Fiio Q5S with USBC a month ago and wow soon good. I also own the BTR3 and the BTR5. And yes there is a noticeable difference in power and sound stage between them all. BTR3 is like a 70% then the BTR5 is like a 85% and the Q5s is a 95%.
I agree but still btr5 is the one to buy
Then M15 or when ure poor m11ltd
We Are waiting for review the new FiiO utws3 🤩
I'm so interesting
Best viewer ⚔🔥
so does the honey sound better than the signature. And how does IFi diablo fit in here.
Got the DT880 -600ohm, got the T50, got WA-6 SE and just got the HD 600 specially for the WA-6 SE, and was a disappointment. I literally wasted money. To be fair they are not bad but they are very close. So close that sounded like the same pair with a different EQ. Clearly don't hold up to their name anymore.
Please do the full on yelling ramble podcast about MQA, I'm sure it'd be entertaining and educational
Yes please. This needs to be addressed over and over. MQA is a pyramid scheme made by horrible people. The RMAF MQA talk from 2018 shows how horrible those people are.
Man I love your narrative sooooo much. Definitely a joy watching your videos ❤️
Which one is better sounding for a mod house argon mk3 (if portability is not a concern) ?
- ifi iDSD Signature 650$ OR
- Magnius/Modius stack 400$
absolutely on mqa podcast
How does it compare to the Fiio Q5S TC?

There's an odd whirring sound in the right channel of this video. It sounds like wind outside carving against the house.
I reeeeeeeaaaaaally dont understand why bluetooth isnt on these devices. All of these types of smaller devices. Especially if it has a battery! I dont want to connect my phone to a dac with a wire. I just dont. The end. Its MF2021! If you can put decent (for bluetooth) capability in an IEM, you can throw it into something like this, even as an afterthought. Its driving me nuts...
Happy new year by the way. Thanks for the reviews!
Screw this.
I'm looking forward to the XD05 Balanced model
Burr brown dual DAC, x bass, 3d, insane power...u get some extras that are worthy...and u don't see money to China. No bluetooth is BS tho.
Me too… but the Xd05 Bal turned out to be a huge disappointment. Actually WORSE than the Plus, a step back for more money. No thanks.
@@mensrea1251 same was looking forward to the xduo BAL :( its ok tho the plus is still amazing.
ifi idsd signature or ifi zen dac 2?
Hi, I have a Sennheiser HD800s with a fiio Q5s, which I only use at home and without Bluetooth. Is it worth upgrading to the ifi idsd signature? After all, it now costs almost twice as much. If it's worth it: why is it worth it?
Why is it so hard for manufacturers to mention in their manuals if plugging in headphones cuts out the pre-out. They'd rather I buy the thing and return it if it doesn't behave like I need it to?
Black blue colour is called midnight blue.
What pads are you using on your dt880?
I have commented in almost every ifi audio facebook post to make a usb female bluetooth adapter for ifi product that works with all ifi devices with that connector. They dont respond even though they like the comments. hope they are at work to make it. fingers crossed
Hi, I have the black label worth upgrading to signature?
what if i dont care about portability? I'm thinking about getting this for desktop use, coming from schitt stack... my dac broke
Thanks for this awesome review. I'm glad I found your channel again. The first video of yours was on the PM-3 back in the day - and I bought one. Same with the HA-2. Since then I've also bought a PM-2. I have a question for you, though. Out of all the ifi portable/transportable/battery powered (I'm not sure what you would call them at this point 😂 - as long as it has a battery, and I can technically throw in a bag to take it with me on the go, I'm good) DACs, which would you say would pair best with the PM-3 and PM-2 in terms of sound quality and synergy? And if you have a better suggestion overall that is not an ifi DAC, I'm all ears. Thanks!
How is the Q5s still not in this general conversation. Btr5 came out and it's like z forgot it existed
Bluetooth sucks anyway its better if the device is connected to device that how hi fi sound is made I went back and forth from Bluetooth and wired on a helm dac amp big difference the isuses I see with those donhles is more likely to break a unit like this won't have wire trouble because wires are replaceable
How can I use this as a desktop dac amp ? Does it power off the usb input from a PC or do I need to keep a usb c cable to charge it every 12 hours ?
Just plug the blue usb cable into your pc lmao
@@bfhyanFX Yeah I thought so but I wasn't sure. Thanks !
@@bfhyanFX That was for the BL
This intentionally separates the power and data which is why they included the USB C cable. LMFAO
centrance hifi-m8 v2 or ifi dsd signure?
If it's the iDSD Neo that's below your desk, it's the Pro iCan that's the desktop unit with 3D and XBass, not the DAC unit. So you can have XBass on your desktop if you wanted.
Btw Happy New Year Z🎉
I am looking into this ifi unit, would have loved the dethonray honey but i will get hit with that sweet 3rd world country 35%+ customs tax(on a good day other wise it's anything the custom officer wants that day)
Does It play DSD1024??
the adapter you mentioned in the video fon sensible IEM's its the IFI iEMatch 👍🏽
Hey Z,
Have you tried the new 360 Reality Audio tracks on Tidal? If so, what do you think of them and does the 3D feature on this ifi unit add more to the 360 tracks?
Meridian designed mqa lossless codec
A couple of questions:
1. I see it is possible to charge and play simultaneously, but with the Xduoo XD-05 I find that the unit still discharges if left switched on - the time to depletion is longer, but if you forget to turn the unit off overnight then it runs flat and becomes useless to power headphones until it's recharged. I have a high power USB desktop charger - will the unit keep charged in practice if used as a desktop amp that you don't have to turn off when you are not using it?
2.
Is it possible to keep the RCA output plugged in when using the headphones? As a desktop unit I would like to be able to choose to output to my speakers or to headphones without constant plugging/unplugging. (The K5Pro needs plugging/unplugging and it's very annoying - essentially it means that I almost never use the RCA out.)
Is it better than Gryphon xDSD?
yes
MQA claims CDs are not what the studio intended.
MQA is a fucking scam.
Will you review Austrian Audio x55?
The AA x55 is sadly a really bad headphone, build quality is 👌 but the accoustic tuning is all over the place and as a result their frequency response is all over the place.
@@ciabutnot7723 You heard them and you can say that?? I use AKG K550 mk2 for recordings and general listening, they're pretty good but I'm thinking to upgrade to x55 because people saying they're very detailed sounding, so I wonder how much more detailed are than the AKGs I have?.. If you didn't enjoy their sound, keep in mind they are intended for mixing and work, not audiophile listening..
@@jimis3167 my listening headphones arecshure srh1840s, i wont critique a headphone for being flat. The x55 have good detail but their response is loads of ups and downs, its not a smooth curve and to me they sounded off and lacking in certain parts of the midrange and their highs can get too sharp for long sessions of listening (not ath m50x sharp but still sharp in a non pleasant an unnatural way)
@@ciabutnot7723 You didn't mention, you heard them in person?? Or you're judging by the frequency response measurement graphs??
@@jimis3167 i was going to buy them and listened to them before buying, thats how i ended up with the shures i have today.
If you want them i suggest you listen to them before buying, you might like them even though i didnt.
There is no difference in power between 6.35mm and balanced 4.4mm as it's S-Balance or fake Balance... Not that you really need it to be honest... Loving mine...
no it's dual mono, so true balanced
@@sergex2049 I do have one... It clearly says S-Balanced output, so it does have the lower noise and distortion of true balanced output but it does NOT have the increased power of a true balanced output.
@@a750 I don't know but ifi claims single-ened is not just single, but more like balanced
@@sergex2049 it's the same circuitry on single ended as balanced connectors
I'm so confused, if I'm plugging in my normal 6.35mm headphone plug (Audeze LCD-XC) in the 6.35mm jack on the idsd Signature, am I able to get max 4.1watt power or at least 1.5watt continuous? I have the older iCan SE which is also max 4watt but it doesn't have 4.4mm Balanced output Jack's.
How is this different from the idsd micro BL?
The signature has 4.4mm balanced output which is not the wierd 3.5 mm balanced. They say/claim they have some new high end components for lower noise. All the switches are on the side instead. Pretty much a small incremental upgrade for the same price from what I could gather.
There’s a bunch of comparisons on the Headfi forums. Basically, the BL has a warmer, more intimate sound to the Signature
@@diederick-fritzojeda2529 isn't signature also a touch warm?
@@siddhantdeepful I’ve never heard the Signature but what I’ve garnered from comparisons, the Signature is more linear and open compared to the BL.
@@siddhantdeepful The BL also has switches on the side. The Signature adds USB-C on top of the things you mentioned. The BL had USB-A port on the side for charging other devices.
They're not square cables they are dog house. Usb B
If you had a couple of hundred bucks to spend would you split it and buy a headphone amp and headphones or would you spend the extra just on cans
Depends on if the headphones are hard to drive or not or if they are amp dependant. Imo ppl exaggerate how much you need a good amp. I would prioritize the cans
I’d get the AKG 371 plus a dongle.
Check Zeos Edifier G4te review. This whole DAC+AMP race might change in the next years. And the best Headphones one can get, will be well tuned+DSP-Corrected BT-Headphoes. Lets face it, even if someone is still not perfectly happy even with LDAC, technology is moving on and will offer even higher Bandwidth. In the Topping A50s review, Zeos was asking how can Topping possible improve next year. Maybe Topping already sees the future and that 2020-2021 is the last hooray of Desktop-DACs and -Headphone-AMPs before everything gets combined within the headphone and balanced together with DSP.
So long story short, if a nice set of Headphones is what you need now, buy it. Don't blow your money on the whole DAC/AMP-Thing that might soon be either mostly obsolete or even HighEnd-ClassD-Stuff will be really cheap few years down the line.
I have a ifi ZenDAC and it serves me well for 3/4-year now, was thinking about upgrading it or making the next step, but no! ZenDAC+XBASS+Philips X2HR is love and I'm keeping both for that combo, but I feel the future is wireless. Also having the ZenDAC as a backup to make any PC or Laptop into a really decent music-device is nice and for the price of the ZenDAC a luxury I can afford to keep in the closet if necessary.
@@arrakian any particular reason for the akg or is that what you happen to own ?
@@gges1605 I based it on a review by metal571, and it’s everything it was said to be. It’s also efficient, and sounds very nice.
I have the Empyreans, I have balanced cables, I have the ifi iDSD BL which doesn’t allow balanced. Can you compare the BL, Signature and Diablo for me?
Man what a great unit. But garg that's way too much effort to plug into a phone or a DAP. It would be hilarious\wicked af to run DT880s on your phone though. lol
Cracking noise in your pipes is probably the hot water lines since you have the circulating pump.
Where's the jnog homie-Z?
Was waiting for more stock. So expect it tomorrow
So, in your A90 review you said that power(3300mWx2, into 32ohms) in that one couldnt run DT880 600ohm, but this with 4000mWx2(to whatever ohms) can? You sure? Gonna pick one up.
And the ifi has only 4000mA at 16 ohms... the reason he doesn't find different power outputs for balanced and SE is that it is not balanced internally. Just a 4.4 connection.
@@Nr48 How do you know this for sure? Ifi doesn't list multiple power outputs, if any on a lot of their products
Bluetooth is not as stable as wires. I'm sure it's fine in your house but not in mine I get a lot of RF interference, and it's not stable on public transport or other places with dense crowds. It's a lot better than it was a few years ago but I still much prefer wires.
It's not truly balanced.
It is
@@barood7588 no it's s- balanced. It says right on the website. Same circuitry on the single ended as balanced.
@@theovonskeletor3709 what you talking about the penta 4.4 is fully balanced, They claim the SE has the S balanced which is debate if its balanced or not
@@barood7588 straight from ifis site. "Both headphone outputs utilise our ‘S-Balanced’ output circuitry.
