As a new golfer, I've been taught by some of the low handicappers I've played with to think 'tick tock'. Meaning, do exactly what Greg said ... go back a specific distance for 'power' and go forward at exactly the same speed like a pendulum. The rule of 3 is interesting. I wish Greg spent more time on selecting where he wants the ball to slow down based upon the green. Was it a specific distance from the hole, or was it based upon a break, or both? In any case, fantastic lesson from Greg. I would encourage you to feature more of him. Great video Jimmy, thanks!

I just grabbed my putter and tried it at 3 ft and 6ft on my practice green. Works amazingly! I also figured that my putter is around 3-4" heel to toe. It's is a quick way to give yourself a reference for back and follow through. Jimmy another great tip to make my golf smooth.

Love this approach. Not clear on what "hit it to that number 17 in my head" means relative to only drawing the putter back 24 inches, which covers only 8 paces?

My question is how do you determine how far away from the hole you want it to slow down. This really depends on your swing speed to.

Too much math for me 😂 I’m a feel putter and I like Johnny’s method of the jacuzzi, it’s saved me from 3 putting a LOT.

So how does he pick where he wants it to slow down? This is awesome as it's something you can replicate over and over.. just don't know how he picks the show down spot. Thanks for this Jimmy Cappuccino

Similar to the 12-3=9 for chipping. Known as the rule of 12.

@@gregmihran8616since they deleted my original comment search the rule of 12.
It's a pace count that let's you keep your same swing and speed for chipping. The math tells you which club to use for a given pitch and run. Very very similar to this putting lesson.

I don’t understand this. If your maximum backswing is 24” and let’s say you pace 15 to where you want the ball to start slowing down how does the swing differ from say 20 paces to where you want the ball to slow down and still only going back 24”. You still have to judge distance to 15 and 20 paces.

I think what he’s saying is that at some point it becomes a feel. You can’t take it too far back because you lose control and accuracy. So at a certain distance, you have a max takeaway and max follow through at the same level pace and you’re just trying to shoot at your spot hoping it lags to the hole. But you’re correct past a certain distance, there is gonna be a bit of variability because the conversion factor won’t work

I would guess that you want the ball to make to it to the hole, so maybe count the paces from the hole to the ball.
