A much appreciated video from a new "photographer". I hope my first family session tomorrow goes well. I will keep all these tips in mind. Thank you!!!
I love love Love your videos. They are so down to earth and jam packed with so many useful tips. You are so good at explaining and giving great examples and advice. Looking forward to the next one. Good job. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for this video! This one and the first Couples Photography video were exactly what I needed to photograph my sister and her fiancé! You have so many great ideas and the examples bring them all to life!
thank you so much Jen! I would say my channel lacks consistency but I promise more video are coming. Let me know if you have any "how to" videos you'd like for me to make!
Behind the scenes videos with photographers are kind of rare in my experience. People are self conscious and don't want to be seen while they work, I think. But they are some of my favorite videos to watch because I learn so much from them and gain new persepectives! I say, "more behind the scenes videos!!"
Ok, I’m going to binge watch your videos. I love how you explain things and you’re easy to understand. You should have way more subscribers btw. Glad I found you. Thanks!
I hope this doesn't come off wrong, but do clients ever question you "being a professional" when you shoot with a small mirror less and small lens? Obviously the results speak for themselves, but if I was a paying client and didn't know any better I'd expect a professional photographer to have a giant DSLR with flash and lights, reflectors, ect. Just curious. Great videos, keep it up!
solid question, not gonna lie, I was worried about that when I jumped into sony from canon and being almost 2 years in with sony I have never gotten questioned that by a client. I would say because I get hired for a reason and is always relationship. I would hesitate working with people who are that shallow in their lack of understanding with photography. Also what makes a professional nowadays - everything we do is accessible and im learning every day.
Thanks for the video, really helpful because I'm so confused right now thinking what camera I should buy for my wedding projects. Love your tones anyway!
After COVID I got my first engagement photoshoot planned and I'm nervous for it. Is it normal to feel nervous for your first shoot? Also any advice to help and communicating with the couples.
Omar Eltakrori I have taken lots of pictures outside but friends are asking me if I could do some indoor pictures of their kids/family. Any ideas on what light, flash would I be able to use which is good quality but doesn't cost an arm an a leg please.
1 of two things, if you have a prime lens with low aperture preferably 35 (because of tight spaces) you can get by without a light source other than natural window light. I did two home shoots recently and brought no lighting and just a white deflector to bounce some light and photos came out more natural than actually using a flash setup. Test some shots in your own house with a subject and see how far you can push your cameras settings.
I have Nikon d3100 which I had for many years and have two lenses 18-55 (f3.5-f5.6) and 55-300mm (f4.5-5.6). Background is usually a little grey but I haven't used the reflector just yet. I'm not sure if this would fix the problem. Should I invest in a new lense with f1.8? Sorry for too many questions 🙈😂
yea 3.5 is pretty dark to begin with forcing you to increase the iso to compensate. definitely try a 30/35 prime -- if theres a lens rental place near or look for used gear on offer up or ebay. BUT i can tell you 90% of what I shoot is on a prime lenses, also your camera has a crop sensor so nother higher than a 35mm. theres a pretty affordable 35 1.8 for a bit more theres a Sigma 30mm F1.4 Art definitely can find great deals on ebay
Great photos. Your work is inspiring to me, I'm planning to buy the sony a7riii soon, I'm curious about how you're handling wedding photography without flashes. Is it possible ?
Hi Omar, great channel and appreciate your work! I have a question, why are you mainly using 55 1.8 lens instead of Sony Zeiss 35 1.4? Is it because of a weight or you just prefer 55mm focal length instead of 35? I know that you have 35 2.8, but why not 35 1.4 as a main lens for your work. Thank you!
I find the 35mm a tad wide when shooting portraits -- I do think the 35mm in general is a great focal length for primes however, i would resort to a 35mm for setting shots
Can I ask your professional opinion about following wedding scenario -- 35 1.4 would be used for the most part of a day and for the portrait shots just switching camera to APS-C mode, which would make this 35mm to 50mm. Would one lens 35 1.4 on these terms could be theoretically enough for wedding coverage? I'm thinking of which lens to buy as my first Sony lens and to build my way up. Should I go for 35 1.4 or 55 1.8. What lens would you choose? - keeping in mind wedding scenarios. Thank you!
you are right i would agree with you. a 35 can totally be a full workhorse for weddings -- for your first sony lens i can only speak for the 55 1.8 and theres something about the sharpness that has a lot of people talking about it BUT go with the 35 1.4 // you can forsure get it all with it
Follow up from my comment on the first video... if I shot this at 2.0 I'm pretty sure the majority of them would be out of focus. Is there something else I'm missing? Are you further away from the couple and then cropping in? And if not, are you focusing and recomposing? I'm finding that with the smaller aperture, recomposing often equates to the original focus point being out of focus.
sooooooo - sonys AF technology is came changer - usually use face and eye auto focus during contiuous - when i start getting artsy fartsy then i lock in focus with a custom button and recompose
@@OmarEltakrori Sony has face and eye auto focus??? Ugh... if only I wasnt so f*ckin invested in Canon. But a video would be wonderful! You really make some helpful stuff. Very much appreciated!
I will be shooting with a engaged couple soon. I m wondering if a zoom lens F2.8-4 18-55 could do this job for me as I m worried that the photos will not have enough bokeh effect.. any advise?
my advice is to always use what you got. yo forsure can take great pics at 55 f/4 but that may affect your iso. if its a paid job and you can make it happen, check offer up and craigslist for a prime and offset the cost.
so i shoot in continuous BUT i customize one of my buttons "focus standard" mode which right away makes it single shot // shooting canon i would shoot one shot af all day but sony allows me to do a hybrid of both without actually changing any settings
I've watched many engagement photo shoots cuz I have to get some ideas of posing my client couple.
Thank you. I am a beginner.
Amazing shoot!! Thank you, best Rikki

Could you do a high school senior portrait video?
Olivia Calvin will do!!
Do you use Photoshop for your final/finished pictures?
I really love your videos, they are so helpful!
thank you so much Jill!
What type of area focus do you use when your couples are moving or to get those candid shots?
if they are legit physically moving, then wide area continuous with face/eye detection
Where do you edit your pictures?
Great photos. Your work is inspiring to me, I'm planning to buy the sony a7riii soon, I'm curious about how you're handling wedding photography without flashes. Is it possible ?
totally doable, some kind of light source may be necessary for reception - even if its a LED light and not a flash

do you shoot one shot af mode?
so i shoot in continuous BUT i customize one of my buttons "focus standard" mode which right away makes it single shot // shooting canon i would shoot one shot af all day but sony allows me to do a hybrid of both without actually changing any settings
I usually prefer people taking their glasses off when shooting.
forsure, I leave it up to the couple. If thats their look then makes sense to leave it on
