Love the dark themed kitchen especially. You can really see where the budget was spent. Besides the living space looking a little incomplete rather than minimal, you can see the owners have great taste.
I like every room featured in the video except the living room. The living room is cold, hard and uninviting. It can be easily remedied by placing a rug with a contrast colour (beige, white, navy blue) to soften up the space. Get a nice coffee table or side table WITHOUT skinny metal legs to create a contrast again. The owners have many furnitures with skinny legs and that’s too matchy-matchy. The blank wall is too barren and in need of a nice painting. A painting is a good and easiest way to introduce different textures and colours. I also realised that most of the furnitures are of the same height (except the TV) which is a huge faux pas in interior designing. I would suggest get a tall standing lamp or a potted plant to break up the space.
The master bathroom is the nicest room in the entire house. Other than the kid’s room, i would described the rest as sparse or empty instead of minimalist. Minimalist look is hard to achieve in an apartment as it depends largely on architectural features instead of just finishes and furniture. The seating furniture looks so miniature and uncomfortable. Minimalist is about being functional and comfortable. The TV and speaker are bigger than the sofa and armchair. The proportion look kind of weird. From the look of the carpentry, can tell the ID didn’t put in much effort in the design or pay more attention to little details that can make a big difference like the white silicone for the black cabinet. The protuding top cabinet to cover the sewage pipe in the kitchen, open shelf for non-existent microwave are examples. Instead of the cupboard look for the black carpentry at the corner of the living room, it would be nicer to make it look like wall with panelingHaving a bar counter height island in the center of the kitchen also make the kitchen look out of proportion. Beside carpentry configuration, adding more texture to the kitchen will help achieve the intended minimalist look The false ceiling in the living room give it a bit of layer and added interest to the design. However, the typical Singapore style combination of random track lights and fan spoil the look. Lastly, i think having some plants would add life to this otherwise lifeless and vacant looking house.
I llike the design of the master bedroom , bathrooms and kitchen. Dont quite understand the choices in the living /dining room. On one hand its supposed to be minimalist but there is shelving with Bearbrick and tiny tchotchkes for pure ornamental effect. On the other hand , functional pieces like a coffee table are omitted. Where would you place drinks/snacks, remote controls, tissue boxes or other items when watching TV or entertaining family/friends in the living room?
Excellent oratory skills by the presenter. Just my two cents ....hack means to cut with rough or heavy blows. Hacked away is too harsh a term when describing architecture,. Removed is a more suitable word. Likewise it is more eloquent to say carve out instead of dug out.
I'm curious, when you provide the budget of 80k, is that just the reno quote from the ID, or all in inclusive of electrical work, lighting, plumbing work, wet fixtures, airconditioning etc.? 80k is pretty insane if it's all in... I can scarce believe it. I have a home in the same estate in the 86sqm 4rm, and its closing in on 120k after considering literally everything.
