    Cylinder turbos always sound awesome. I had the same issue with my hood latch. I sprayed the bottom cables of the latch with wd40. Also if you can get some in the cable for the pull itself helps. I spray it every oil change now. Looks like your getting blow by with those two wet plugs.

    • @FAZEDTom
      @FAZEDTom  4 роки тому

      I didn't know the hood latch getting stuck was a common problem. Where on the cable itself do you spray? And yeah probably blow-by on 1 and 5, possibly on 3 and 4 as well (wet pistons). We'll see as it comes apart what the head, cylinder walls and ring gaps look like

      @Hath.0 4 роки тому

      @@FAZEDTom I didnt think it was either. Probably the NJ weather doesent help. Had an issue with both my mk6s. I spray the latch mechanism on the hood, then the two parallel metal "bars". I also lubricated the actual cable and housing connecting the latch and hood pull. "Dry lube" with teflon or silicone for bike cables and chains works great.
      Is it smoking at all? Might be rings since all the plugs aren't wet. I'd compression test it.
      You have a catch can or an upgraded pcv system, they help with blow by, especially if your running high boost.

    To get coils out two zipties looped and put up so much easier

      Good idea man, I'll try this next time. Thanks

      Zip ties work wonders for pulling plugs I prefer it over the coil popper I got off of ECS. Pop the harness off and loop on the ties and just pull. Takes me 20 minutes to do spark plugs on my R.

      Lol I can't wait either! I'm working on getting this grey r out of the backyard so that I can start asap

  • @j03yk45

    I had a problem with my hood latch on my R. Ended up temporarily swapping it with a pick and pull latch I snagged off a TDI for a few bucks. Knock on wood, the latch pull inside the car can take a lot of beating

    • @FAZEDTom
      @FAZEDTom  4 роки тому +1

      Oh yeah? I had never heard of anyone having issues with them. Was it getting sticky/rusty like this one?

    • @j03yk45
      @j03yk45 4 роки тому

      @@FAZEDTom pretty much and wd40 only helped temporarily. I even tried soaking with white lithium grease which also helped out, but still once it dried again after a month or two, it sometimes needed a second person outside of the car wedging the hood up a little to get it to unstick and fully release. I just think all these double action latches will naturally get worse and dry out over time especially with water hitting it from the front. The gap there between the emblem and the lever is big enough that it doesn't create a perfect seal unlike a lot of manufacturers that have a rubber seal between the upper grills of cars and the hood keeping things mostly dry and free from road debris. For our cars, once they do get nasty from road grime and other bullshit build up where there is no more grease in the lever action, they just fail completely. At least the design is way better then the mk4, b5/b5.5 pull style latches. I've had a few of those fail on me as well and they are a PIA.

    Sounds good, cant wait to hear some crackles on downshifts from the 2.5R. Any plans on tracking or doing something of that sort with the blueR?

    • @FAZEDTom
      @FAZEDTom  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Ray, I can't wait either! I feel obligated to track the blue r a few times because it's already set up so well for track use. It'd be nice to learn the limit of this car

      @@FAZEDTom definitely, it would make for some cool videos to see how well the R would handle on a autoX or regular course.

    Woohoo, finally home. I think I am more excited about the upcoming videos and watch your teardown.
    I forgot, is that 2.5 engine built? Depending on which rings they used, you may have blow-by. But that shouldn't be too bad. What is a bit weird is, is that 2 of your cylinders appear to run lean; white spark plugs, and the others maybe rich; black ones. Maybe you have to check out the fuel system and see if the all the injectors are working.
