    The Drop Box Official Trailer 1 (2014) - Documentary HD
    The Drop Box tells the story of South Korean pastor Lee Jong-rak and his heroic efforts to embrace and protect the most vulnerable members of society. It is a heart-wrenching exploration of the physical, emotional and financial toll associated with providing refuge to orphans that would otherwise be abandoned on the streets. But The Drop Box movie is also a story of hope-a reminder that every human life is sacred and worthy of love.

    My grandma was born in Macau, China. We are not Chinese so I asked her why one day. After a very heartbreaking talk and a lot of tears, It turns out that my great grandma was a missionary and opened multiple all girls orphanages and schools, plus adopted girls. This was in the 20s and 30s when Chinese parents did not want girls. I am so proud.

      My daughter is adopted, I have no idea how to tell her, she is 9 years old now. Her real father left her mother and her real mother died riding a motorcycle. It's uncanny but she loves motorcycles yet didn't know her mother.

      @@cypherpunk12 to be honest, I have no idea what I will tell my adopted children too. I plan to be honest and tell them they are adopted but I want to make sure it is clear to them and they do feel that it makes no difference if they come from my womb or not. I once volunteered at an orphanage and saw a quote that has stuck with me, that adopted children are not carried and born though the womb by their adopted mothers, but they are carried and born through their hearts.

      @@mimim102 how kind of you ❤ this uplifts my spirit because just a couple of hours ago, I got into an argument with my father since he was questioning me helping someone not blood related. I know my family will have something to say once I adopt, especially since that means giving time, effort, resources and probably even my whole heart and life to someone not blood related, but I have always wanted to adopt children and so I will make sure I will.

      Actually in the 4 months between that post and now I did tell my daughter. I was supprised but touched by her response. I asked if she would like to meet her real dad, she hugged me and said "I already have, you are my real dad", my eyes have tears in them just typing this.
      I was friends with her mother I told her about her mother and how much she cared. Her mother told me that if anything ever happened to her she would want me to look after her daughter, not her family. When she died she had a will and left me as the carer for her daughter.
      We are going to visit her mother's grave once this whole Covid 19 garbage blows over. She's a great kid and I do see her as my daughter. She's 10 years old now and starting to like boys, guess I need to buy a shot gun lol.

      @ellajane These seems like an ill informed comment. Many of these children look like they have disabilities. Education and safe sex is most likely not the factor in those cases. Societal, physical, emotional, and financial resources would have a far greater impact, which is something Kindred Image (a result of this film) works to achieve and keep families together when possible.

    The result of horrible politics and a culture that neglects the rights of women. Give women the right to choose whether they want to use contraceptives and this wouldn't be an issue. But thankfully there are people like these to fill in where society fails.

      @ellenhunt4103 7 років тому +5

      This is South Korea not North Korea. Seoul is one of the most forward thinking and modern cities in the world. Granted there is still somewhat of a cultural stigma around tattoos and piercings as well as purchasing contraception/feminine products (its slightly harder to find than European countries) but it's an amazing country to live in. As a woman who has visited Seoul many times, I have never found anything but opportunity.

    • @thedisneyfan0918
      @thedisneyfan0918 7 років тому +21

      Ellen Hunt I feel as though you have a very limited perception of what it's like to live in Korea as a woman. It's true we have the right to choose methods of contraceptives, but abortion is still illegal in South Korea. Furthermore, there is a social stigma surrounding single mothers as well as teen mothers. The social stigma in South Korea for single mothers is quite a large factor in why there are so many orphans. There is a severe lack of governmental support for orphans, single mothers, and women's rights in general.

    • @sintofg
      @sintofg 7 років тому +1

      Many Asian Societies may have some pockets of socially forward but there are various regions in these countries that are in very conservative around how women are to regard themselves as being representative of the extended family's social reputation not just their own. In many respects a women's body is not her own's socially especially when it comes to child birth and rearing.
      While there are ways for the government to help out with the costs of being a single mother only in the last couple of years has this slightly lessened the stigma socially. Conservative attitudes still persist that a women's worth is still inherently tied to her sexual behavior. As well as the health of her offspring.
      That's on top of the fact that not all parents are prepared to face the social ramifications of having a special needs child to their family. That's something only recently within the last decade or so that is normalizing without stigmatizing these children and their parents, globally.

    • @paulaegraham
      @paulaegraham 7 років тому +3

      Korean women have access to contraceptives. All they don't have is the right to murder their babies out-right, which is the opposite of what this pastor is doing so he isn't "filling in" for lack of abortions. If there were enough of him, he would be making abortion completely unnecessary.
      It amazes me that you all think that de-stigmatizing single motherhood is a good thing. A lot of America's social problems, especially in the black community, can be traced to our encouragement of single motherhood. This includes the obvious juvenile gang and delinquency problems, but it also includes joblessness and listlessness in young men, who in earlier times would have been supporting families, but now have no responsibilities; rise in STDs from lack of commitment to a single partner; the epidemic of date rape where young men's lives can be ruined if she wakes up and regrets the encounter, etc.

    • @kimschneider6368
      @kimschneider6368 2 роки тому

      Ellen hunt you don’t see the policies and the way the culture operates . Many of us were given up early years because of the way birth was recorded . The father had to be used in To create the birth on paper . If there was no father the child could not get citizenship and the rights to go with it . Now if the child was abandoned ( although illegal at the time ) the child would get citizenship .
      So many single mothers would abandon the child . So the child could survive .
      In a sense .., we adoptees in the early years were born without a country .
      And abandonment gave us our country .
      Politics and traditions are different in South Korea . They are not like western countries

    I like the video. But I feel as though we should not have babies in this world. Children wouldn’t experience abandonment if we didn’t birth them. I think plenty of married couples CHOOSE to have a baby thinking that child will bring more joy into their life but what they’re doing is bringing another life into this very difficult world so that that child can suffer in a world he never asked to be brought into. I hate the fact that one human being is capable of choosing whether to bring a another separate life into this world. It seems like an evil/selfish thing to do in this kind of a world...

      Considering the ramifications of abandoning children to an unsafe locations is why we have safe haven laws in the US. Because people would do that. Religion aside it's horrible that conservative attitudes (in South Korea access to contraception is not as readily accessible as it is in places like Europe or the US) around shaming a women for having a child is as it is across countries around the world still exists. Let alone one that is born as a special needs circumstance.
      As far as I'm concerned if people cared enough they would try to restructure attitudes around wedlock childbirth and for that matter special needs instead of providing band-aids to these issues.
      I am glad this man felt compelled to change what he saw was a problem, even if this man had been an atheist, pagan, wicca, Luciferian, Polytheist, Shinto follower, Buddhist or otherwise.
      While I am pro-choice myself and an intercountry adoptee adopted by a Pastor as well, I won't discourage others for trying to find solutions for those most vulnerable in our societies have no say in the matter of how they were born, no matter their religion.
