The review puts a detailed light on the latest hatchbacks - the Elite i20, Jazz and Baleno. Let's see what these great looking cars have to offer.
Baleno is based on Suzuki new generation platform. Maruti Baleno is the second premium product after S-Cross and to be sold exclusively through their Nexa dealerships. It will compete with other leading rivals like Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and all new Ford Figo. The engine options in the Baleno are identical to the Swift though. Its petrol variants are powered by the 83 bhp 1.2-litre K12 mill, while the diesel trims come with the tried-and-tested Fiat-sourced 74bhp 1.3 DDiS diesel motor.The top end trims of Baleno have features like parking sensors, advanced SmartPlay infotainment system, power foldable mirrors, automatic climate control. In terms of safety, Maruti offers all the crucial facilities like ABS with EBD, dual airbags, engine immobilizer and a few more security functions.
Now coming to the new Jazz, it has everything that one can ask from a premium hatch. Its powertrain options, the space offered and the beauty of this car can definitely worry the best of its rivals. Jazz comes with two engine options - 1.5-litre i-dtec diesel engine that has 6-speed manual gearbox and 1.2-litre i-vtec petrol engine that has 5-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox. The diesel engine develops the same power or torque as the Amaze, Honda City or Mobilio, which is 98.6 bhp with 200 Nm of torque. On the other hand, its petrol variant generates the output of 88.7 bhp with 110 Nm of torque. The driveability of this premium hatchback is quite decent. The front wheel has ventilated disc brake assisted by ABS with EBD which will prevent the car from skidding. Jazz has electric power assisted steering system, which is highly responsive and makes handling simpler. The diesel engine has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 27.3 kmpl, while the CVT petrol variant brings out the ARAI certified mileage of 19 kmpl as compared to 18.7 kmpl of manual Jazz.
Coming to the last hatchback, Elite i20 gets two different engine options, a 1.2 litre VTVT petrol and a 1.4 litre CRDI diesel. The petrol motor generates a power of 83PS and a torque of 115 NM. The motor is very smooth and compared to the outgoing car, it is a leap ahead for this new. The steering has a good response and lets you have a better feel of what is going on at the wheels. Because of this, i20’s handling is very nimble that lets you cut corners easily. Moreover, the improved suspension setup contributes to better handling and keeps you well in control. The petrol gives an ARAI specified fuel economy of 18.2 kmpl. Elite i20’s top Asta variant gets dual airbags, ABS-EBD, 3 point ELR seatbelts for four passengers, a rigid body shell and reverse parking camera. hello everyone... I bought New Honda Jazz V CVT variant.. After lots of research, comparison and test drive of Honda Jazz, Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20.. I bought this car.
reasons for buying this car:
1. Great mileage in this segment
2. Lots and lots of space in this segment(including boot space)
3. Great Power compare to i20 and baleno
4. Smooth and comfortable while driving
5. Look wise- no one can beat this car
6. Paddle Shift function in this car is awsome..
7. AC is damn good. no need for rear AC vents like in i20.
8. No one can beat IVTEC engine... Best Engine ever..
I don't care about keyless entry and rear AC vents.
and trust me... I already owned hyundai santro, suzuki baleno, HOnda CIty, and right now I am having Grandi10 Sportz... among all.. HOnda provided me the best services, best performance, after sales service etc etc...
Go for HONDA JAZZ. this is the best car in this segment..

The Jazz is a true segment leader in terms of practicality, build quality, comfort and ride quality. Hyundai is a big no, though it offers lot of features it surely has quite big problems in its maintenance and engine in the long run. There have been many issues with engine failure in i20 even with many of my friends. Indian customers are easy to fool, offer good features and without letting them know the compromise in safety and quality, people still buy such vehicles. This strategy of Hyundai clearly doesn't work out in other countries in the Middle East and elsewhere for example, people do look for the long run,
you guys don't give any importance on safety this has to be one of the most important parameter .

Jazz is a globally successful model, looks very stylish Inside too you shall come across huge space and sheer premium-ness too with safety features like dual airbags, ABS and EBD. Mileage is good enough, petrol engine is super refined and quite as a winter night so much so that you wont feel at all that the ignition is on. extremely enjoyable and a stable car to drive. I have JUZZ petrol, in city getting 16-18 KMPL, Thumps up to Jazz!

I am a potential buyer of Elite i20 but impressed with the design & driving dynamics of Baleno after long test driving ended with buying Baleno.
So far driven around 2659 km & enjoying with the performance & comfort of the Baleno. It is the fun to drive car.

I would like to mention a big point which no one has pointed out. As Baleno is light weight, everything fitted is so light. The biggest disappointment for me are the bumpers. They are so fragile, even if you press it hard then also you can see a dent. Its so light. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.
it's been around 1.5 months of my booking on baleno and dealers are not even sure that they will get the car for next 1 month. Is this car worth waiting so much .

It is worth if you want something extra in less amount of budget, it is worth waiting and if you have about 9-10 lakhs to spend over a car, You can look for options like Jazz and Ciaz.

Both are different fuel types. You cannot actually compare a diesel car with a petrol one. However, Figo has a lot to offer you which includes better power and features. Thus, the value for money quotient is high with Ford Figo.
If im not wrong, the Elite continues to beat the Baleno in terms of sales which says it all. I think you guys were spot on when it comes to picking the winner. Just being a maruti does not mean it has to be the best car. I think Hyundai has done a great job with the Elite and it needs appreciation. IMO

Mainak Bag yes the elite i20 is uncomfortable for the 3rd person to sit. and the Honda jazz is lot better than the elite i20. but even the Baleno is the best compared to the elite i20 or the Honda jazz. the elite i20 is the last.

Both cars have decent performing engines, it is just that Baleno has better safety features and i20 has better comfort features. Safety is the priority and thus I would suggest you to go for Baleno over i20.
Booked Baleno 2 months ago n found out that waiting period has gone up to 7 months ! This is a blessing in disguise as in these 2 months I could compare it with i20 and was really impressed by it's package. Baleno does have better equipments but the built quality of the cabin certainly feels a bit cheap and those alloys are sometimes mistaken as wheel caps ! Finally booked the i20 and yeah it's available in 7 days !! 😁

I love the i20, but I love Baleno more. After 2 month of research and test driving all the cars in the segment, I ended up buying a Baleno. Jazz's engine is good, but it needs more bells and whistles.
I am getting 23.6 kmpl on my Baleno diesel alpha. As far as the power is concerned Baleno is lighter by 200 kgs and 10% stronger due to intelligent engineering. This makes Baleno's 75ps engine as powerful as the jazz's 100ps. I wish the Baleno had a 6th gear like the i20. Rear AC is not needed as the AC is too strong, quick and responsive in the Baleno. 700 kms done till now.

+satish lokhande No. Even in triple digit speeds the car seems heavy and well connected. ride quality at high speeds is excellent. and yes the rear seat ride is a little bumpy as opposed to i20 but its not like it is intolerable or unbearable. and today only I bought very premium looking seat covers for my baleno from nexa only for 9k. black and silver leather. and that has increased the under thigh support drastically as per my dad who loves to sit at the back seats.
+satish lokhande talking only about the diesel alpha which i have. cant say high speed ride quality of Petrol alpha as I have not driven one. Petrol version is much lighter to the diesel versions. around 100kgs i think. so it might be a little unstable. but diesel alpha with 2 adults inside is pretty sturdy at triple digit speeds also. no doubts about that.

Jazz and Baleno have the most refined petrol units. Moreover, petrol cars are silent, they make less noise and vibrations so refinement is not a problem with petrol cars.

I've booked baleno Delta variant.. mainly for the value for money deal it offered... For example safety features... Baleno is best in terms of safety : all variants offer air bags and abs+ebd as standard across all variants ... Elite i20 and Jazz doesnt
even give them as option in lower variants...and also in Delta variant you get climate Control, steering wheel mounted audio controls and audio system... Plus all power windows and power operated ORVM.. And also we need to speak in terms of pricing... Baleno is much more competitively priced...

Guys please tell me honestly that how the Baleno car is ? Is it right for the users? Don't misguide the peoples because spending 7-8 lakhs again n again is not an easier for a middle class family. As i have seen lots of negative comments on different - different sites, all the comments and reviews has made me totally confused to buy a Baleno. Please tell me honestly should i go for Baleno or for other cars.

Maruti has truly delivered where it matters the most.While looks are subjective, its noteworthy to point out that the overall styling of the car is distinctive.Coming to the comfort, with the front seats adjusted for 6-foot adults,the rear seat floor is also relatively flat, though shoulder width is typically the two-and-a-half adults.The interior of the Baleno, to sum up, is spacious and well-equipped, and even well designed.
On the handling, the chassis seems pretty capable but the steering feels a bit light in comparison. Baleno is extremely stable at triple digit speeds, it feels a lot more confident to drive.
Do take a test drive before you make a final call.

what is the actual mileage of Jazz and i20
We have not tested them for mileage as of now. However, the claimed mileage is 27.3 kmpl and 18.7 kmpl for Diesel and petrol respectively of jazz on highways and for I20 it is 22.54 kmpl for diesel and 18.6 kmpl for petrol on highways.
baleno is best for me just because of handling. everything else come after , i salute company who makes better handling car.

How about the safety in the three cars ?
The Baleno is built on Suzuki’s TECT (Total Effective Control Technology) body structure. This helps in keeping the occupants safe as well as increase pedestrian safety. Hyundai Elite i20 - Higher variants come equipped with ABS, rear parking sensors, a rear camera, central locking, and an electrochromic rear-view mirror. Aside from this, front passengers avail the benefit of seatbelts that come with pretensioners, a keyless entry system and a rear defogger that comes with a timer. Yes, you get an immobilizer too.Honda Jazz - The front passengers are shielded with the presence of dual airbags. I sold my 1-20 coz it couldn't match with the comfort i get with jazz. I drove my friends Jazz and I was amazed( not a fan of Honda) but comapred to i-20 n baleno, jazz is far better in all aspects, trust me bro. JAZZ kicks ass with comfort,engine and quality.

However, the fit and finish quality is impeccable and the Elite’s trim quality levels are a benchmark. There’s a good amount of features on offer too and let’s not forget, the car looks fantastic too.

+kunal garg check the video in youtube, it contributes to the safety a lot. i20 is only for looks not for safety. Even, go to ford.com and check ford figo there they have shown a video about the same.

+kunal garg It because, people in India does not care about the safety, they only cares about the features. i20 gets only ABS and airbags. The most imp. safety features are ABS, EBD, ESP, VHMS, BA, Airbags, etc...
Indian people only cares about mileage, maintenance cost. In India, people buy Alto 800, nano, etc like pathetic cars where there is no safety.
I personally do not care about features. The more I care is Safety, Iron used in car, Tyre size as it helps in car stability. Swift provides tyres of size 165/75 which does not even help in corners.
Car is a luxury item and people should consider it like that only. I personally believe people who ask for mileage and maintenance cost rather than performance and safety, such people should not buy cars.
The parts of VW polo are also imported from germany and the iron they use are awesome and helps to minimize the harm. Now, VW has managed to build VW Vento (under Made in India name) in India with 77% localization which helps to minimize the cost. In India, All the german manufactures like Mercedes, Audi, VW, etc have assembly plant. But 1st time, VW Vento made in India but Iron, engine, etc are imported from german only.
During NCAP safety test, many base models cars failed but they asked to ban Swift and Datsun Go however these cars are still in market without any improvement. While when other cars failed they made changes in that.
What is the cost for Baleno ???
Does the lowest kerb weight of 890 kg for Baleno translate into poor road safety? That's the only concerning factor for me vis-à-vis Baleno. Thanks in advance!
+Ketan Panchal Baleno has been designed on a new concept TECT(Total Effective Control Technology) by Maruti, this actually lowers the weight of the car without compromising with safety. It has scored 3/5 in Euro NCAP crash tests, which is a decent score considering the fact that it only weighs under 900 kg (kerb weight).

Maruti has better resale value in India and then comes Hyundai. Baleno might take an edge here and then Elite 20 and then you can rate Jazz. On top of that it all depends on the requirement in the used car market.

Well! A petrol and a diesel car are pretty different in nature. It is difficult to compare them. Petrol cars is peppier and is quite comfortable to drive but at the cost of efficiency. Diesel car isn't much fun to drive but is efficient. Hence, We would suggest you to decide accordingly.

Jazz has better power and and the engine is peppier than the Baleno. If you are just centralized towards driving comfort. Jazz is the car for you. If you want to have a car with less maintenance and better features, You should go for Baleno.

Yes it does, It makes shifts easy as you just need to flick the lever. You don't have to move your hand all the way down to the gear bar and then change the gear. This feature is something which is useful in sports cars also. It is going to help you a lot in bumper to bumper traffic.
baleno or elite i20 which is best??
Both of them are great, i20 has got comfort features and Baleno has got better features. Baleno is a newly launched car, thus I would suggest you to go for it.

Nothing of that sort was encountered while we took it for a spin. However, it does lack coil springs but even then the suspension system works pretty well.
Elite i20 is the king it looks more agresssive & its beautiful both inside & outside...baleno looks ugly n bulky where as honda jazz is shapeless at the rear & sides & the body doesn't match with the front looks.

Baleno has got better safety features, both cars have almost identical space and mileage is better with Baleno. Likes are subjective mate :)
I20 is good car , jazz also good bcz good mileage in city with a/c 20 in Bangalore traffic,jazz car starting pickup is literally slow.

Baleno has best ride and handling combination of the three...baleno is more spacious then elite i20...baleno has almost all the same features as that of i20 and i would even say more then i20....baleno has best in class mileage.....baleno has least servicing cost...baleno is cheaper then i20....has better boot space then i20...back seat of baleno is more comfortable then i20...like almost on all counts baleno is much much better then elite i20....so how can elite i20 win?????very poor comparo 👎👎👎👎👎

+Shijin baby Compared to i20 in terms of safety, I would say, polo (1st) and then jazz (2nd) and then baleno are the most safest cars in India...!! i20 does not provide EBD , ESP which contributes more than airbags...!! Infact, if you do have EBD and ESP then if airbags are not there then also we can manage but below things should be in a car like EBD, ESP, ABS, BA and Airbags..!! and i20 fails drastically in that. Even body of Polo is that solid that it would not harm people compared to other cars. Also polo uses solid quality of side beam which minimizes the dash. I prefer polo due to the iron they use in car and other manufactures wield the roof due to which when accident happens rear passengers gets hurt badly while Polo doesnot wield the roof which minimizes the impact.

baleno back looks shit. baleno is bad in potholes.. lighter car.. not durable.. not compact .. when driven in a bad road.. all the time. the car will be turn into trash fast .. didnt like the headlamp style.. like wagor r or swife. lastly its boring car.
jazz doesn't have that good appearance but i20 as well as Baleno are good. But jazz has a good engine and i20 and baleno perform the best in all segments

They didn't mentioned the mileage details. It seems to be quite contradictory review from cardekho.com. Baleno although looks wise definitely not as good as i20 but stands out apart from all rest of 2 in mileage.
I'm still left undecided which car to choose in budget range of upto 8 lacs. Guys please suggest.

My cousin had i20 which was amazing when it came out and I wanted to buy that but then Honda Jazz and Baleno came. After a long and heavy discussion between me and my uncle who being an Indian have all his faith in Maruit suzuki we decided too buy different cars to prove our point.
Now our Jazz came first and then his Baleno and while he may not be completely regretting his decision but when he drive Jazz and when we compare about our cars his reaction says it all.
Both cars are good and talking about brand Maruit has better service and Honda has better quality.
So according to me Jazz rest the choice is yours. Do tell us what you chose.
one of the worst comparison criteria I have ever seen. At a point they said i20 has some steering wheel feedback issue not so responsive and also in the end treat it as a compromise , but what they forget is , if there is not life in the steering wheel how a drive could be good . Drive is the top level criteria of all not looks. When u say it baleno is as much responsive steering wheel as vw polo then how could u treat i20 as Compromise with driver and give it top spot.
2nd thing baleno has hell lots of features , normal people started making separate video on UA-cam for the same to knowledge others. Really caredekho team has to work transparent for such neck to neck comparison . for the compromise u have awarded i20 best the honda and baleno could be compromised of their issue.

yeah...i have seen baleno zeta petrol by myself , so i know the pron & cons on practical basis and moreover i have also seen the Fiat urban cross. So this review is lame.

no offence cardekho but i think this was a bias review first the looks for which u gave ur thumbs to the jazz but as of the recent conducted poll the winner is the wlite i mean u didnt even talked about the ultra small wheel of the jazz next there are many petrol owner and u guys always review the diesel and in the petrol segment the winner is baleno even on terms of features and equipment jazz is the poorest and even u didnt mentioned it next about the jazz is that suspension this cars are made to be driven on the city and here the balenos softer suspension works the best.I mean have some proffesional reviewers have who atleast have a lil damn idea abt car for me the winner is baleno followed by the i20 and then the jazz.Event the jazz's gearbox is sometimes a pain to use.
all three car loose when its compared to fiat punto evo's top notch safety, stability, braking, control, worst of all this three car is baleno, when a car is not safe on highways for you and your family its not worth spending 9lac on this cars just for rear seats leg room. safety should b the first priority I don't own punto evo but since I have test driven all the four cars its the best.

the i20 continues to be overrated... it may be the best pick for most drivers, but it's not as great as the video said... and why are there only diesel comparisons online?! sheesh... I bet the Jazz or the Baleno would win if it was a comparison on the petrol variants... it's just not right to say that a car is the best by just considering the diesel variants, which all of the comparisons that I saw only declared unjustly... i20 is the best premium diesel hatchback, and the Jazz is the best premium petrol hatchback if you ask me...
