Looks are subjective. For me, Build quality, Driving dynamics, cabin space & practicality and above all, Engine performance and durability matters over other secondary features.. and Honda Jazz knocks both Baleno and i20 out of the park in these areas. People justify their purchase of Maruti-Suzuki but the ugly truth is.. 99.9% reason is resale value. Buying car is not an 'Investment', It's a 'Depreciating asset' like a mobile phone. We buy them for our convenience and needs. Fuck Resale value !
Happily driving Honda Jazz CVT VX since Dec 18. Build Quality is too good as its a Global Model. Ride is so smooth, you hardly get any road noise inside.

Why no one talks about build quality of jazz. It is a solid car. On the other hand you will find enough video of baleno crushed by some small accident.

Being a jazz user for long and an car historian ....let me tell you guys something about the philosophy at Honda...
1.They have the most rigorous quality screen in industry and is at par to Toyota in body and better than Toyota in engine.
2. They don't sell car below the 6 lakh bracket because they have a reputation to keep unlike Maruti and they will not be able to provide the quality expected out of them at such price
3. In a given price for say 10 lakh rupees they will be spending more than 75% of the amount for engine, transmission, safety features and turbo etc and a very less amount for gimmicky cheap electronics features which actually don't add to the sense of a safe spacious and powerful car.
4. Honda is the biggest producer of internal combustion engine in this whole world and they know their stuff really well.
You can check the break of jazz and Baleno back to back and admire the solid bite...I myself came to know about the pathetic breaking of Maruti cars and miserable back to centre steering handling issues when one of my friend (using swift for 5 yrs and Baleno for 2yrs ) was really astonished while using my jazz...later I drived his Baleno and was immediately able to relate to his observation. Please don't take me as a Honda fan boy...we have to see the difference in marketing strategies here, rice is a necessity so it should be cheap and easily available...car is not a necessity so it should be produced in the way it should be....turning out batches of tin can with poor make...and even poorer design just for the ultimate question ' KITNA DETI HAI''...Maruti has car with added metal for foreign markets when they continue to scavenge their indian cars for the same..
...if you want to have a safe and no nonsense car for your family ..go for Honda jazz, city wrv or civic...etc please don't go for amaze and other derivatives like Brv because these are designed by Thailand design team of Honda and lack the international backing of Japanese design.....lastly Maruti kitna deti hai.....

Even amaze, brio n its derivatives r in par with thier competitors(under 7lac cars) honda manufactures the best it cud with the little price cut or the so called budget cars..
Im pretty sure honda's much cheaper brio can win its bigger brother jazz in terms of performance and handln xcpet for overall space n boot space..
And ya all honda products irrespective of thier country of origin r completely relaible, long lasting n always puts a smile on ur face while we drive em..
Ive owned a Honda city top end model as was thoroughly disappointed with the quality, the body started rusting writhing 2 years of usage, body would rattle over high speeds, ground clearance was horrible. Thus Honda is no comparison to Toyato or any other good brand from even India

Honda still doesn't add safety features like reverse parking camera a touch screen infotainment, but the has touch screen ac control and sunroof... That's where Hyundai is a bang for buck product they cramp in all the essentials

@@ashoksapam go ahead and start browsing automotive enthusiast forums in India and you will know that he is not alone. Honda used to be run by engineers but that is no longer the case. The new gen for India Honda cars are nothing great.
I Went with jazz cvt v variant and its seems to be awesome choice. When you want power just switch to S mode and take control. It will never let me down.
I have gotten an average of 21.5 kmpl in a passively driven 300+ kms trip, with my Jazz V CVT
Maruti and hyundai has no standard to get compared with honda. An automotive geek and a person with proper knowledge will never go for an indian (maruti) and korean (hyundai) over japanese (honda) brand. Choose wisely just don’t go with the flow. With honda you get surity of best in class engine quality (which easily do 2 lakh kms without any issues) and safety at it best. Even the spares used in Japanese cars (honda and toyota) are best in class compared to hyundai and for maruti everyone knows the spareparts quality.
Each and every car is best in its own way..but yes jazz is something special. Its really jazzy. Its so modern with coolest features amongst all.. When u ride or sit inside you'll surely find the difference.

People talking about polo may have not even sat in jazz or other cars. In the name of german technology for how long will VW will sell cars with the size of celerio or i10.
Almost 1 year new polo has been launched still theres no news about it for Indian customers.
That's because of a major jump in the price, which won't be feasible for Indian market
pulkit sharma jazz definitely has a good build quality and interiors but the engine is not the one a keen driver would love. It has one of the worst engine performance in the segment .
so true bro . they havent launched the updated version as well shich is based on the new platform . Jazz is a very strong car . Superb for enthusiasts , also for normal day to day driving . It is well built , safe , has powerful engine options , extremely soacious .
I purchased Jazz V recently and it is awesome. I know it is bit slow in its LOW RANGE but once you know how to drive it and able to maintain the correct RPM it is fun to drive. Jazz is best in inner space and driving dynamics. I am enjoying the drive. loving it...

Nice review and I agree with most of the points. I did extensively test drive all the three before finalizing my purchase and found the Jazz CVT to be the best compromise when it comes to a frugal enough engine, decent build quality, adequate features (apple carplay, electric mirrors, cruise control etc), proven engine and CVT transmission. And now after 6 months of fuss-free ownership i can vouch for the practicality this car offers.
One correction: While I was purchasing all 3 cars were around 11L on road Bangalore. So the price advantage of Maruti/Hyundai as per this review no more holds true.
P.S: What made the deal sweeter was some superb discount running on the Jazz 😁
I liked how you stressed on rear headrests - which is a safety feature that is usually ignored by auto journalists.
Am sure best luxurious car is jazz because this car has much space and fully safety smooth ride and suspensions

Nice review, The European 2018 version of the Jazz still has magic seats and the EX version has all those missing items on the Indian car.
Honda's superb ivtec engine mated to the 7 speed cvt gear box with paddle shifters are just enough to take out the entire competetion.. the excellent ride & bulid quality added makes Jazz the perfect family hatchback.
To all baleno buyers the rear(the curvy shape) if damaged has to be completly changed,dents cant be fixed there

It's sad to see how the Honda fit (jazz) gets so little features and worse materials for the Indian market while probably costing more than in the US and Europe
And you didn't mention i20? let's see. For rupees 77,000 more over i20, Jazz gets cruise-control, paddle-shifts, push-button start. If Hyundai adds these three features to i20, they would jack up the price by at least 1.25 lakhs. Agreed that compared to US, Jazz is expensive. But Honda is not the only car pricey here. What about Hyundai? Of late, they have become most greedy. Hyundai is new Honda in greed. Raising prices and removing features. A double-whammy.

I think baleno is a good car but i20 is best overall. Space is a compromise compared to baleno or jazz but its overall the best without significantly compromising on a particular area.

Rahul Pandey the engine with jazz can be compared to the engine that comes with Tata nano. The reason being they both do the 0 to 100 speed around the same time . Why would someone spend 10 lakhs on a car that’s as good as a tata nano

I currently own JAZZZ which is great. But I made very detailed comparision between baleno and jazz for the prize it offers. I can surely tell its like Chinese mobile phone. Looks very good but very risky and crap build. By knowing the body quality, I can vote any car other than baleno. Be careful if you are driving very fast. Anything can happen any day.
Hi i am a jazz owner for 4.5 years now, I did not drive i20 but i did drive baleno and believe me after driving jazz for so long , i was getting no confidence in driving baleno.
I know we all think our vehicle the best but please try jazz before comparing. Jazz is just fun to drive . Gives a solid feeling and confidence while driving.

Imagine Polo GT Engine with 7 Speed DGS fitted inside a Honda Jazz with ample Cabin Space, that would have been the ideal car. The Rubberband Effect of CVT is no match of Lightning Fast Gearshift in of DSG.

Where is these hatch's father? VW Polo. Polo is better than these cars in terms of build quality, overall parts quality, zero cost cutting, 100% galvanized body, better engines, 7 year warranty and a Snob value of a German brand which owns biggies like Skoda/Audi/Lamborgini/Porshe etc. Brands like Honda/Maruti and Hyundai are literally mosquito in front of VW.
As good as the Polo is, it's not a large hatchback. Hence, wasn't in consideration. These are cars family buyers would be looking at

Polo do have cost cutting with the spare wheel and considering only build quality makes Polo best but considering rest of the feature make i20 and Baleno the best of the segment

Have seen couple of videos online where the Apollo tyres burst while running on road
Hi Anirban, i am not an expert but as per my understanding, wheel alignment should be done time to time (once or twice a year atleast) otherwise it causes tyre's damage from sides.
Apollo tyres have a slight bulge out naturally which exposes it to sharp objects on sides of roads, vulnerable to injury. Yokohama has sides reinforced and stays upright without bulge.

I had test drive baleno cvt lil long b4. Light weight. Rear suspension makes sounds on pot holes. Not comfortable.. feel very lite while driving. Micra is far better

I20 is the best and more premium than the jazz and baleno(1st) . Jazz is a good car with some updated features and with it's striky looks the jazz is a good package overall (2nd) . Baleno's design can be ok and it's ride and handling can be good but the quality of interiors and it's build quality makes it the most unsafest package in the premium hatchback segment. Maruti should atleast work on the safety of their cars.
I think jazz is better .... because it provides spacious cabin , boot space is also bigger as compared to i20 and also mileage which is slightly better than i20.

I have been using i20 for past 7 yrs, the old and new, it is amazing, solid, and obviously best in hand while overtaking in highways. on the other hand, I'm completely unsatisfied with the after sales service... I too did some test drive with Maruti- Breeza, swift and other branded cars like Chevrolet, Ford, I didn't feel the comfort, quality and drive quality like i20... Hyundai are you listening... all the so called authorized sales company of your didn't understand what is customer service?
And ford figo and freestyle sets these hatchback back in terms of engine and driveability.
