VEKE is of course referencing vege(tarianism), but "veke" is also a slang word for removing something, as in "otan sen veke" would mean "I will take it off", which is a reference to the lack of animal products in the VEKE product range.
I don't know if it's the origin of the slang word "veke" but I think it might come from the German word "weg" (pronounced vek) meaning "away".
@@retzza I think it comes from Swedish, as a lot of words in Finnish do 🙂 "Jag ger mig iväg", "Mä lähden veke täältä". But as Swedish is a germanic language, the word "iväg" and "weg" are related so in a way it has derived from German aswell 😊

It's nice to see you cover the vegetarian range from Hesburger. They are really pushing meatless products and trying to lover carbon footprint and recycle their waste more ways than any other big chain that I know ( example : their work out fits are made from recycled plastic bottles and some of the furniture is made from plastic waste as well.)
You should've gone for the "kasvistortilla". For me it is clearly the better of the duo.
in my opinion Hesburger is best hamburger place in finland. mcdonalds has best fries but hesburger has best burgers
I'm 50/50. My issue with Hesburger compared to McDonalds in Finland is that McDonalds has better seasonal products. These days most of the time I order it's either mega from Hesburger or a seasonal one, like the current Jamaican Beef, from McDonalds.

The fries always go bad during delivery, eat them fresh.
Few years backward fries were awful in Hese even fresh out of deepfryer. These days those are ok but not as good as in McD or BK.
@@ArchieArpeggio Rolls is way better than any of those but their places have always been hard to find! Their fries are soooo good. Especially the dips like the curry dip.

@@ArchieArpeggio They have more restaurants now but there were only few about 5 to 10 years ago! Or at least that's how I remember it. There are 3 more restaurants that are closer to me now. Hesburger has been everywhere since I was a child. Their fries were better back then.

Hi Dave. Hesburger fries have always been crap, back in the day they used to mix corn based Maltodextrin to them and it seems that in new recipe they have replaced the Maltodextrin with "pea flour". Not really sure how to translate it, but pretty much its the protein gathered from the pea's and then it's added to fries. They also mix some other crap to the fries too. While the fries at MC Donald's and Burger King are almost 100% of potato. At least I didn't see anyone comment this yet, so I hope you found this interesting :D
Free tip for Hesburger about the salad: mix the mayo with the salad, cut the soy bites to smaller chuncks, and mix the whole thing. That way it doesn't look like stuff was thrown on top of the lettuce, but rather it looks like a complete dish. Maybe add something like corn etc. to add variety/color
It's nice to see a meat eater taste testing vegan stuff. I would like to see some more of that, mcdonalds next or something? :)
The classic veke burger, soy fingers, onion rings, fries and the kasvistortilla are vegan as far as I know :) you should definitely try the kasvistortilla next time since you didn’t like the cheese in the soy tortilla 😂

Veke is more Finnish way of saying vege which is short for vegetarian. Hesburger did a good job with filling the burgers knowing that Dave is going to promote their products. The salad was a rip-off though.

I love Hesburger's Veke-burgers! They are so good. Kasvistortilla was my basic order before Veke-burgers came and it's also good.
Now i need some Hesburger!
Due to the delivery the fries get soggy. They are good only for 5-10 minutes after frying. So they are very different when fresh!
Also the Juusto VEKE burger is my favorite from these products. It almost tastes like a normal cheeseburger.

If I remember right the soy sticks are made by Saarioinen and the patty in the soijakasvisburger is also not made by Hesburger, but the patty of cheese-veke is made by Hesburger. The sauce in both veke-burgers is vegan (made by Hesburger, of course).
Have to say about the salads that I always get them with the house sauce which I use only for the lettuce. The meat I eat as it is. And you really should have put the croutons! They give texture and taste. The salads are still pretty expensive, but pretty often there are coupons in the Hesburger app to get salad for 5,95.
The "new" hesburger fries suck even more. McDonalds has always been better

I have to say that I actually like that Hesburger has the salads in the menu. I mean ofcourse they are not for everyone but there are people who just don't like burgers or just don't want to eat them. If you have group of 5 people for example and they are selecting a place to go and eat and 4 of them want hamburgers but 1 hates them, that group can still go and eat in Hesburger because there is the salad option for that 1 person who won't eat the burgers.
Personally, eating hamburger buns makes me very tired for some reason so I try not to eat them when I'm out but often my kids want to eat in Hesburger so then I order the burger-salad for myself and everyone is happy.
Clicked on here to see if you had any vegan/vegetarian options there and when you said that you chose meatless options only I might have screamed ”YES!!!” 😂💪🏼 their chicken style veke-burger is incredible 💚 not a huge fan of the fries but their curry mayonnaise is really good
Yeah the salad price is absolute robbery, but whenever they have a coupon (5,95) for it in the app I do take it as a burger salad. The combination of salad, burger patties, cheese, bacon, crutons and bell pepper mayo is delicious. Haven't tried the veke/soy options though.
My mom and brother are hella allergic to all kinds of preservatives and my god did they get itchy after some hesburger vege cheese burgers 😵 Tastest good but apparently full of preservatives ^^

Best no meat burger Hesburger has so far done is the Halloumi burger. The meat patty is replaced with a halloumi cheese piece with good sauce, salad and pickled red onion. Everytime they have brought that thing as a special I go buy several of them as they are small burgers and so good.
I don't know how long it takes for you to get your delivery from when the food is ready to go, but for me the fries are only good if they were freshly made and the delivery is quick. I can tell right away if the fries weren't just made and they just go not so tasty during delivery :(
Yay, veke won! My favorite. I always order two.
The Burger King patties are much better but sometimes it feels great to have Hesburger for change and the mayo and veggies are better in Hesburger. Also the Veke lineup of burgers is great because it tastes good even for people who eat meat commonly and they're competitively priced with their meat alternatives. In a grocery store the vegan options seem to always be way more pricy.

Have to try the tortilla wrap and the two burgers. When I was a teen around in 2005 to maybe 2010 the salads in Hesburger where alot better. For example the chicken salad had some boiled egg together with tomatoes and maybe cucumber... Funny how everything else has gone further and sort of developed but then the salads just... Anyway I don't think the salads are worth all the money anymore.

Rolls has THE BEST fries, goddamn they are delicious
Issue with Rolls is that there aren't that many places. I think they have something like 4 places within the whole Helsinki metropolitan area.

That´s becouse of the seasoning what they put on fries. And in my mouth it tastes mostly like aromisuola. Anyway that was the thing when i was underage that we got drunk very early at friday evening and went to Rolls to eat fries before getting home. It was large portion that you got for 10 mk.
Hesburger fries aren't that good as a takeout, they get soggy. But if you manage to eat them fresh they're delicious.

hesburger has the worst fries by a long shot, if you like crispy and thin go to mickeyD's, if u want more thick potatoe but still crispy outer coat grab some burgerking and if u like worst of both worlds order hesburger fries

I don't like Heses fries, but I love their kerroshampurilainen, especially the sauce in it. The soy stuff, at least here, was super DRY and boring, exactly what I would think eraser tastes like. :( For me the best fries in Finland have been at Rolls, also Burger Kings bacon+cheese fries are very nice.
Veke is not even real vegan burger, the cheese is basic not vegan cheese. That's why it probs tastes and smells like cheeseburg. :D

Cucumber mayonnaise is perfect dip for fries. McDonald's is near me.
This boils down to that what ever you oder in Hesburger you get essentially the same product. If you order a wrap it's the same stuff in a wheat tortilla. If you order a salad it's the same stuff in the box. This is always been the case. Hesburger isn't really for people who want variety just the same stuff they always want to eat.

Hesburger fries used to be ok, kinda hit or miss were they fresh or not. Then they changed the fries to thicker and softer ones and they are absolutely garbage now whether they are fresh made or not. They always taste like they are not cooked all the way, just horrible. Cheapest brand frozen fries made in oven are better.
Opinions differ, I like the new Hesburger fries way better than the old ones. The old ones were so bland and thin and the new ones taste like actual potatoes in my opinion.

There is really good food, heallty and even burgers. Found world of plants and to those saying cant get protin enought, Classic thing people claims. There is alots things whit protines, not only meat. But B12, you need to add to vegan food. People doesnt know about vegan, Saying not enought protin, but its B12 you need to add, protines you get from many else things then only meat.

I once tried the veke cheese burger. Once! I hated it. It was so mushy and the patty almost felt like it was melting inside of the burger. Just an awful mushy burger. If it would have some texture in it like fried onions or something crunchy it would have been so much better.

You and the audience have to keep in mind that none of these foods are hot and fresh! So it's not accurate review. It's not the same if you heat up fast food in microwave etc at home.. Fries, onion rings, nuggets etc won't be crispy. Burgers will be saggy..
I literally can only eat at McDonald's cos allergies like Hesburger and burger King can't eat anything. Like at Hesburger I can't eat even the French fries. So in my books Hesburger IS The worst
If you are allergic to rice that might explain it as they use rice flour to season the fries thats why they have that special taste.

Hesburger changed their fries recipe end of last year or early this year. I liked the old recipe, I don't like the new ones at all. They go to bin when I get the meal. Before, I would eat them first.
