I was 7 years old when Brookside started and really got into it in the mid 90's when the cult was a big thing in the mid-90's with Simon Howe (the character) played by Lee Hartney after 1993. Good times. I'm nearly 48 now and wish I could go back to those times.
I like this original 80's opening/end credits theme version of brookside! It's Better than the 90's version! Wish brookside would back on the screen. I miss it!
@@ourliam4482 It was Bobby and Sheila, played by Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston, who later reunited as Jim and Barbera Royle in the Royle Family, with the late Caroline Aherne.
Brookside was at its best in the 80s, by 1989/90 most of the original cast, the Grants, Collinses and Harry Cross had left. As the soap entered the 1990s new families such as the Dixons and Farnhams were introduced and it never seemed the same..
@@brucedanton3669 It was still a groundbreaking soap and broke some taboos up until the mid 1990s. Then came the outlandish storylines such as explosions and kidnappings which just smacked of desperation by the producers and probably did more harm than good to the programme.
@Paul White, that's true. I love Classic Eastenders, Classic Emmerdale, and Classic Coronation Street. Brookside had the odd pre- watershed swear word. I think that, Channel 4 should bring it back, and swap it for Gogglebox. Brookside is legendary.
Barry and Terry……. 2 very scouse names. On reflection actually liked this show in comparison to what else I was forced to watch as a child…… Eastenders, The Bill, Coronation Street, Neighbours, Home and Away …… 😬
I remember the even cheesier version that had a more digital sound, this version sounds good actually, its a memorable theme at least for us who heard it.
In modern creepy cancel culture world, none of the stories would be allowed and if it became anything like coronation Street/ eastenders or emmerdale, its just 1 aggressive shouting match after the next.
Yes, I was gonna say the same 😂. I always thought it sounded like Jon and Vangelis, I Hear You Now. Great theme song for a great series back in the 80's.🎶
Brookside had some excellent storylines and characters, the sad part is with the sudden departure of Paul Usher who played Barry Grant in 1995 at the time, scripts had to be rewritten and the character Barry Grant was relegated to gossip and hearsay. Paul returned later to appear in just a few episodes as Barry in 1997/1998 but it was never the same and I wonder how the character would have developed on screen had Paul not left but at least they brought Paul/(Barry) back for the final episode in 2003.
At Simple Minds' Leeds Roundhay Park gig in 1989, Jim Kerr joked on stage how they should have sued the makers of Brookside for copying the opening bars of their song Life In A Day.
