John John is next level, his biggest adversary is himself. if he doesn't get hurt this year doing his sorcery he's getting another title. the only 3 surfers who can properly take him down are Julian Gabriel Jordy, and all three of them are looking like they are a level below John John in his form right now
JJF certainly enjoyed himself today in surf that is very similar to his homebreaks... He surfed a 6'2". when other guys were strugglin with step-ups and were having trouble with the bigger open ocean style surf, JJF made it look like a day in his backyard... This is not to say he is a far greater surfer than everyone else on tour, it is just that this place and this surf suited him better.. He was more comfortable in it... I do think he has the potential to be one of the greratest ever though... He certainly seems to see different lines on waves, that are great to watch... I hope he can continue this form in all surf conditions and win many World Titles, because I genuinely like his surfing, and he seems like a likable chap. He seems pretty down to earth and happy. But I don't think that just because he dominated in this bigger surf in WA, and made every one else look rather amateur, that it means that he is actually far greater than everyone else in all surf, and that he has it all stitched up...yet..
HE IS THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS. I personally want to see him take ppls heads off in these heats. free surfing is free surfing and I respect all of them as individual artists. but....in a heat I want blood,,, and he never disapoints
He is making everyone else set a new bar in their surfing. Unfortunately for them it has also to do with body type, mass, pure physics, combined with insane talent. Jon is no boy anymore he's a beast with a lot of muscle and weight. So crazy good and awesome to see! If Kolohe was taller and another 15 or so pounds of muscle on him his turns would also produce more sheer water conversion. Jordy is the only one who can match Jon's power that I have seen so far. Bourez close third.
they use heavier boards for tow in why not the lighter guys add mass to their boards in those bigger chunkier conditions? just thinking out my ass again lol
It depends on the conditions..I was refering to this type of wave....this type of wave is better for guys like Jon Jordy Michele Owen all those big folk etc....even the commentators were saying it.
+Bjorn Lunden, I agree about the comment regarding the boards. A lot of guys seemed toi struggle with board choices more than anything. In all honesty a lot of these guys would have surfed the condition way better with an old single fin than the lightweight boards they used. JJF's board loved these conditions, and he looked so comfortable in them...
no, he won 5 with 19+, 1 with 18+ and the first one at north point with 13+... it is good to note that he comboed everyone he surfed against, even in no losers rounds
John John's ability to consistently through down critical turns is truly jaw dropping!!! Hands down the best surfer in the world!!!!
Agree
As soon as i first saw JJF's first turn I knew it was all over

Dave Lospinoso Filipe Toledo on his day could give him a run
As always John John Florence is the BEST , what a beast !!
Congratulations John John !!!

Nice events and surfing on display.
John you bloody legend
Kolohe's air should have scored better - gnarly section over the inside bricks. sick stuff.
Exactly.

I agree with you S J. Technique is key. JJF is not built like a beast but his technique is perfect and beast
lol ya but the lighter guys flutter more you cant ignore it

8 min mark bears scrutiny. Sick rotation.
Bring back better surfing. Bring back brother in '24
Did john john win all the heats with 19+ points?

There's so much style in surfing, but it's missing 1 key element: wearing board shorts over a wetsuit.
J.J. looks like he's on rails,he's pullin some "Gs" on that cutback.
John is a MONSTER 💪🏼
JJF is the best. (In my opinion)
Oh my lanta . . .

In fighting this would be considered a mismatch.
