Keep in mind that on these Chevy Malibus there are TWO camshaft position sensors, one where he shows and another directly behind it in the back of the engine. One is for the intake and the other is for the exhaust. They both have the same part number. The rear one is slightly more difficult to replace. I found that disconnecting the coolant line bracket on the engine gives you a little more wiggle room to get the rear sensor in and out.
Life saver bro, every video was sending me to relay fuel pump and starter which I kept checking over and over till I came across your Video appreciate it
Fix my car on the interstate my car shut off with no shoulder on each side and it was crazy we almost died because of a sensor!!!! Watched your video on the side of interstate. Unplugged sensor and car fired right up. So crazy Chevrolet would do this!!!! I could see sensor going bad car runs bad you fix sensor. But for your car to just die on a major highway and you unplug the sensor and it runs fine. This is so wrong!!! Your the man keep up your videos. I subscribed keep posting 2012 Chevy Malibu videos please and thank you
I had an issue with my malibu's engine starting rough and dying. I found this video but didn't watch it completely as I should have, lol. Yes people, please run an OBD2 analyzer and unplug the MAF plug first before you unplug the cam sensor. My issue turned out to be the MAF (the Mass Air Flow sensor located between the air filter box and intake flex elbow). If the MAF goes bad, it can cause the engine to run rough and can be prone to stalling out at idle. A bad MAF can cause trouble codes and unplugging the MAF sensor on the malibu may allow the engine to be run nearly normal at the expense of worse fuel economy. I have now replaced the MAF on mine and it's running as it should. So yes, please trouble shoot for the MAF as this man did before unplugging the cam senor. That being said this video was still a huge help for me and got me on the right track for trouble shooting my issue.
@@renealviar6358 Continuously starting the engine and allowing the engine to stall out over and over again could result in the battery being drained. But that's really the only way any of this would kill the battery.
My daughter car is a 2009 Pontiac G6 2.4L it's the same exact engine as this chevy malibu. I was gonna replace my fuel pump today total cost was $800!! Thankfully I came across this video saved me $800! New censor only $60
So I tried this, and the oil light was on so I checked it and it was very low, still showed on dipstick but probably 2.5 quarts low. I filled it up, still wouldn't start, tried unplugging MAF and every other sensor on my 2000 Alero I could find. Surprisingly there are like 6 or 7 of them lol. No avail. In the process of leaving the battery unhooked for 20 minutes. In Florida it was 98 degrees today so I'm wondering if it was a voltage issue from the heat. Starts right up, surges up for 2500 rpm for a second and then stalls. The security light isn't flashing and it reads no codes.
My Chevy Malibu 2011 does that I tried this step and starts it will just start normal sometimes and drive good but then there’s days when it will start and then shut off and take for ever to turn on
I have a similar problem but the same car and year dies while im driving 🚗 then goes put of gear while im doing whatever speed, if i hold my foot on the gas ⛽️ i hear & feel gears spinning without being engaged but after a few more seconds it starts working. I've had a scanner say ( cam shaft position sensor) code a year ago 😅😅but i just kept it pushin because it runs strong 💪
I have a chevy Malibu 2015 when I stop it’s automatic shut down and when I lift my foot off the brake it go back up, but last time it just die I have to wait for 2,3 minutes before go back What you think can make that happen my friend? I’m so worried right now cause it never done that before
Hi Didi, I have the same issue with the malibu 2018 model. It starts and goes off immediately when the dials return to regular positions. I will give it a try and update this channel.
It's something you want to change, cause it keeps track of measurements in your engine. So if the sensor is not doing that, we affects the performance of the engine, which can lead to engine failure.
so got a 2009 malibu bought a new camshaft sensor because of this problem (does the same thing with the old one) i can plug the sensor in when it starts up and turn the car off and immediately start it back up and it’ll start but if i turn the car off with the sensor plugged in and let the computers reset the car goes back to the same issue until i unplug the sensor again, any idea?? i’ve checked the maf sensor had a cranshaft sensor code so put a new cranshaft sensor in and and has a po171 code which is fuel trim lean so at this moment i’m stuck anything would help.
Were they OEM parts? I've read the malibu is sensitive and aftermarket parts, particularly sensors that communicate with the computer modules can cause more problems or not fix the original problem.
Same problem in a 2010. Had a brand new sensor sent from Rock Auto. Got the GM genuine part. Put it in, car did the same thing right away. Unplugged it and the car ran fine. At a roadblock to what might be happening. Any issue with running the car without the sensor plugged in? Anything you could suggest? Thanks.
@@jerryblack6948 Turns out that after installing the new gm-genuine sensor; you had to disconnect the battery and clear the computer (ie leave it disconnected long enough or cross the terminals to discharge capacitors, etc.). Then once connected again the computer 're-learns' the new sensor and it worked fine. GM are idiots; has anyone said this enough yet.
I have a 2009 ssme issue. When i unplug the camshaft sensor it starts right up. When i bought new sensor and installed it, i started having the same problem even with new sensor. It starts up when unplugged but not with new sensor?........ Help?...
I did as you said too, it worked, I bought another sensor, we put it in and it started doing the same thing with the new part. Do you think I got a bad part or is there something else I should check?
@didisway3341 I figured it out. I needed to take the negative cable off the battery to reset the computer. Thank you for the video, it was a huge help, I was stranded 800 miles from home. Thanks again. Much gratitude🙏 Maybe add that information if you make the video again.🙏
I have a 2012 with the same issue. I've tried unplugging both sensors but nothing has changed. I've read on forums people have issues with the rear fuse box. I've tried swapping relays, smacking fuse box. Still can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?
If your trying to fix your son or daughters car ....suggestion......have them look up the problem and teach themselves how to do this .or any repair for that matter . It will do them well all their life
This is happening to my vehicle. It will suddenly die. I initially thought it was the battery. I had it checked and said it was bad (1.5 years old). Got a new battery and it was good for a week but then suddenly died. Checked battery and alternator and autozone and was shown both were good. I searched and saw change Camshaft sensor. Did that and it died again (better mileage though). Battery checked to be good. When it died all times, I put a bigger battery and started right up. I know it's not the battery, alternator or camshaft sensor. I will be changing the mass air flow sensor then the fuse relays (will check all relays). The whole time I did not get a check engine light.
Thank you! This helped get me home. Exact issue, replaced the camshaft position sensor (GM#: 12674704) but issue continues. Code P0340 Camshaft position sensor A circuit Bank 1 or single sensor. Any suggestions?
Just did this, in my case it was start then die immediately in a 2011. Pulled the cam sensor and it started right up and ran fine. You're a lifesaver.
