I have been trying to understand this concept forever and after a zillion explanations from everyone and their brother...YOU Sir just nailed it and i fully understand it for the first time ever. Thank you!
I remember watching Stacy David 10 years ago back in highschool, powerblock tv was the coolest part of the weekend besides wrenching on my daily driver 79 Pontiac firebird. Back than my buddies had lifted trucks and irocs. I was the only guy with old louvers and ttops and a case of miller lite in the trunk we used to pound a few down at lunch time take a bath in axe cologne and head to class when we felt like it. Good days
Simple, easy and right to the point. Some people had videos that were almost 8 to 10 minutes on the same thing he talked about in less than two minutes.
watching videos I saw the bronco and I recognized it from somewhere I saw it and I remembered that as a child I watched these videos even without understanding English how I loved them

Great info thanks so much. It’s no wonder I’ve been having problems. I was told if I’m only using the second battery for accessories it can be a smaller cranking battery and put a solenoid between the 2. I had to different batteries and both kept draining. Time to hit up Interstate Batteries for a couple of new ones.
I agree...Thumbs down???!!!...I guess you cant please stupid people......A great .."to the point"...video....Haters stay off UA-cam...or at least put your WLB diapers on when you watch videos that are trying to inform people....
I definitely need to run two batteries. I’m running dual 16” electric fans, full led front light, led rear tail lights, added cab lights, sound system, and eventually a winch and off-road lights in the future. My single battery while running definitely pulls down below 14 and dims the lights and if you roll up the windows while sitting it takes forever.
Thanks for Video! Very few how to streams are recorded steady, loud Audio, clear Video, and straight to the point. Your Video verified that adding a 2nd batteries to a vehicle with no other alterations or accommodations will work and charge if wired in parallel correctly, resulting in the same 12V but with approx 2x the capacity. Do you happen to know if it hurts the vehicle's "charging system" ( for lack of knowing the actual parts involved) or electrical system. Its only changing the Capacity so if done correctly NO correct? A friend of mine and I want to do this on 2 vehicles one being a 74 Ford Bronco and the other a 2014 Toyota Tundra. The bronco doesn't concern me the tundra does a little considering there is approximately 52,000 more wires and sensors in a 2014 truck vs a 1974 truck.
If connected how he fisrt demonstrated you should have no problem Negative to negative and positive to positive Make sure both batterys are same in power wise same cranking amps
Centerpoint Communications As long as the battery's aren't discharged to begin with, having 2 in parallel won't stress the alternator excessively. However charging two batteries that are low on voltage (less then 11 volts) back to 12.6 volts will put twice the demand (draw) on the alternator. If the battery's are in good shape it will be insignificant to the alternator and wont necessarily reduce its life. If your really worried buy a higher output alternator 150+Amp but for most situations your golden with 130 Amps and two batteries. Stock wiring outside of the batterys connections, isn't a problem as long as you have good grounds.
stacy, i was thinking about this very thig the other day. i knew there was a way to do it but couldnt remember which was was right. thanks a lot amigo.
Technically there will always be leakage current, Internal batt resistance are never the same. So hes right It is important to find the closest matching Batts
My humvee didn't start because I had the battery hooked wrong, I was getting only 12v for a 24v system. Now it is 24v and It almost started, I thought the used power control box was bad that I got for about $50. Thanks for the info.
most semis run 1 120-150 amp alternator, and have on average 6 batteries, all being 100+ AH. they have more then one battery so that they can hold enough charge to crank the engine when its cold. im a truck and transport, i frequently add more batteries to trucks that come from a warm climate that just can get started in the cold mornings. no other mods needed, the charge fine, and start easier.
Question before I subscribe, lol... where do I connect my accessories? Only to one battery or it doesn't matter which of the two batteries? Second question, is it better to get one 200 amp battery than to get two 100 amp battery? Thanks in advance! ps: I subscribed anyway since you seem to explain things short but sweet.
If you had a battery in the back (trunk) an one up front im assuming you dont need to run another negative all the way back, you could just frame ground both.
If you are adding a second battery, chances are you are mechanical. This would be a good time to replace or atleast check out the old alt. I would personally ( when adding second bat) go for the largest amperage alternator I could afford to fit on the engine.
I just hooked up another battery to my car with help of some professionals. keeping the 12 v. but more amps so my car can always start. I do do not drive too much, just to work and for shopping and then return home. Not very long drives. So I hope my car starts whenever I need to go somewhere urgent. Thanks for the explanation. But I cannot do it by myself. Too complicated for me.
I’ve got a short somewhere in my system that drains my battery in two weeks like clockwork. This has no impact if I run my pickup regularly, but I don’t - it might sit for a month or so between uses. Fixing the short is a lot easier said than done, so I want to counter the slow drain by extending the battery life with a dual battery setup. Since there isn’t room for the second battery under the hood, what impact would there be by putting it in the work box in the truck bed about 15 cable-feet away from the companion battery? And what would the optimum wire gauge be for that length?
@@anonymousscorpion6127 I should have known. Around 2000 I got to meet Uncle Ted, got a pic with him, his autograph, a guitar pick and one of his hats which is partially zebra striped. So, I should have known he would have a zebra striped truck. Thanks for sharing that fact with me.
If you want to have one battery operating while car is off without draining the other, you need a dual battery isolation kit? Or am I misunderstanding how that works
Now, i have an 04 sierra, side post battery with top post accessories, obviously the top post will be used to wire and connect the other battery, 2 questions, 1- does it matter what battery i use for my accessories, and 2- i know 2 get the 2nd battery with the same volts and cranking amps but do and can i get the battery with just top posts
So I dont need a isolator or anything. I'm running a bigger stereo and hopefully a winch soon. All I gotta do is get another battery and hook them together?
After seeing this vid I went out to my truck and looked under the hood. 2 battery system, but the alt power wire goes to one battery, and the power wire from one battery runs to the other positive of the other battery, but there isn't a negative running from one battery to the other, they are just individually grounded to the frame. Would it be better to run a ground from one battery to the other? Also, I was curious why the alternator only feeds one battery and not both. THx in advance for sharing the knowledge.
Est Cruz, That is how I have my two batteries hooked up. I believe that since both batteries are grounded to the frame they would thus be connected negative to negative through the frame.

If you have a second battery in the trunk, will it matter if you don't connect the negative terminals? For example, if you just run positive the the second battery and ground it in the trunk. Is that the same situation as the one you described since they're technically sharing the same ground anyway? Or do the negative terminals have to be directly linked
Great information. I need your help I have a 2014 Dodge Ram sport 1500 4x4 5.7 Hemi and I want a dual battery system. What do I do. Is there a kit out there? Thanks
they will both charge at the same rate, half normal charge speed, but double capacity... some semis have 6+ battery. all directly connected to each other

But reason being i already have a system in my truck as well as 2 KC daylighters and when all my lights are on encluding my KC's and my heater on full blast my alternator struggles some. I already have 1 yellow top optima battery. If the alternator that i will end up getting fixes the problem than im not going to do this but when i add more lights and a winch i might end up doing this for the added protection
it helps the alt. how ever if you drain the battery, it will cause stress to the alt. since it has more load with 2 batteries. but if you never discharge your battery. -leave stuff on with engine off- your causing stress to the alt.
I put two wireless motion detectors under car protecting my Cadillac converter thief's placing horn to connect to battery so when I'm not driving the horn will draw power off battery so I could plug it to electric 110 house volts. My question is thinking use a second battery to plug in horn work better than plug in 110 volts from house? what are your thoughts?
The question: I just added a new 2ndary battery in my 01 Silverado 8100. This is how I connected them, I connected the positive wire from the 2nd battery running through a fuze and a solenoid to the positive end of the primary battery. the negative wire from the 2nd battery into frame. Is this correct?
Came here because I was trying to jumpstart a truck that I thought was in parallel, and assumed the mech made a mistake in connection. Welp, at least the shorting didn't kill me. The cables did become super hot though.
Where can you buy these connectors that go between the 2 batteries?? I am having the hardest time finding them. Would they be called battery connectors?
Get down to an Auto Parts shop you'll want Jump Cables and Terminals. On the Negative (Black Wire) you can see that the cable is similar to what you would run to your Starter Motor, and on the end it has a Terminal Connector that it is attached to. Even if you just show them this video they will be able to find the correct parts with you in the store and then you only need to ensure you're using the correct lengths of wire.
I love your show but I have a question about this keep it on 12 v out put what can I use for my cable can I use amp wire since it will have a fused link? Thanks for the info
I just want to add a second 12 volt battery for extra power for my RV? It has a 12 volt already, can I add the second battery so when boondocking I can go longer with out using my generator, or should I buy an inverter and charge and run stuff of the inverter? I put two wireless motion detectors under car protecting my Cadillac converter thief's placing horn to connect to battery so when I'm not driving the horn will draw power off battery so I could plug it to electric 110 house volts. My question is thinking use a second battery to plug in horn work better than plug in 110 volts from house? what are your thoughts?
So what happens if you connect 2 battery's in parallel one is 600 cold cranking amps and the second is 1000 cold cranking amps?
I hooked positive to positive 2nd battery negative went to chassis is that OK or do I need to fix it. And not same type battery thoughts
Well done dude!
If I do it that way, not using solar, but a extra generator how would I connect the whole extra system..thank you!
