Adrian Chetwynd i believe he was referring to the fields that didnt have such deep water holding on it. Portions were longer in draining out that would affect the roots of the grass rotting.

@TheBaconHunter on the flip side of that prison might not be such a cushy option if they did that and it may act as a deterrent to reduce prison numbers and therefore save costs.
Tom gave a very fair and accurate account of the problem. Where I used to live, once a year, in the summer, the army would come out with spades and clear the ditches at the end of our land. We always gave them food and drinks when they took a break. On sunny days everyone had a nice time. If you can't get machines in, maybe this could be an idea to bring back?
He answered his own question, a lot of new developments, and a lot of uter town retail parks are built on what they claim to be re-claimed land. When in fact it is natural floodplanes being built on, thats why we see a lot of places these days being flooded that hve never before.
Tom forward planning is the way to go, councils, water authority's, who ever need to get a grip and sort this out because it's not going to get any better or go away. All the best Wayne.
Well in Tom. What’s your thoughts large scale dredging? We’re effected in Yorkshire by floods are really think dredging the Ouse and Aire would help massively.
You tell them Tom . If its going to flood the new houses out the only ones that proffit from that are the re-modelers and the real estate people as well as insurance company's . Everyone else loses from it . So who pays in the end ?
@@stephenisgar6130 That's ok you saying that but where does Tom get his grass from to make silage for the winter feed . Don't say have less stock because it's only scale that helps in this country today . The way round that would be for the government to tell the supermarket's what they should be paying the farmer for all the various produce ( hear the supermarkets whingeing) in my opinion the price does not need to go up to the consumer but the profit needs to be shared out fairly. Left to the supermarkets to sort it out they may pay for a month or two then they screw the producers irrespective of what the contract says . There contracts only work one way .
same old story... no one from the authorities (environment agency etc) listens to the farmers as they think they know so much more because they have a degree in land management. i live not far from this lad and we have a local volunteer group who monitor and basically shame the local authorities into doing there jobs correctly in regards to flooding (and it has helped massively)what he is saying about emptying the system beforehand is a no brainer but alas they think they know best.
Well, this is bad but we live just of the river Don and even in the highest places in our field it was at least 4 foot deep. At least 75 percent of the land we own was under water.
Ian Rush's Moustache bendy banana nonsense. The first line of the relevant EU documents is that water management must be decided at a local level, the more local the better.
Ian Rush's Moustache nope, as I stated above first...Dredging should be avoided where possible for environmental reasons, of course it should, thoughts about timing etc....but as above decisions on this must be taken at a local level. Bendy banana nonsense
@@andrew30m Hi Andrew. The state of our infrastructure is parlous. I drive regularly in "Third World" countries, and most of the time the roads are better than here in the North of England. Fix what you have before pouring money into some vanity project. Upgrade the East and West Coast lines for example! See the YT spot on how dredging (inter alia) has mitigated flooding on the Somerset flood plain. River Ayre if I'm not mistaken!
East and west coast are at capacity, we need more lines, longer platforms, higher bridges for double decker trains into cities. France, Germany, Italy, other countries do this, yet the U.K. is incapable of doing this whilst maintaining a few ditches that will have little effect on generational floods
I'm here for Tom, good job
Why is Tom telling fibs? He has said on his own channel that it has happened before and that the grass recovered without needing to be reseeded.
Me too. Would never watch bbc otherwise

Well said and Tom and delivered
Yes, yes, yes!!! Explained so very well. Maintenance is so important!!!!
Tom is an Awesome guy! I'm sure ALL the UK farmers are! They need help getting these problems sorted.
Very proud of Tom just hoping they get the help they need to stop this flooding. These people work so hard they deserve help.
It's always someone in a suit sitting at a desk in the city that think they know best will never ask a land owner what changes are needed

No people with shovels?! Get the prisoners out there!
I totally agree all that labour just sat there serving a so called punishment.

Just like they did in shawshank, but the prison only gets paid to cover costs, no profit 🤤🤤🤤

Pay the farmers to have their fields used as flood plains.
