I love more informative vlogs. As someone who is really new to all this it really helps having a parents perspective and their recommendations/suggestions that they have found help. While our therapists and doctors etc are great they don't have that personal hands on experience that parents do so I look towards other parents whenever I can.

Something I would suggest doing is making a picture that says that the iPad mini is a medical device with a number to call if it should get lost/stolen in public & set it as the lock screen picture.
My 3 year old nephew is a type 1 diabetic & that’s what my sister did with the old iPhone we’re using for his Dexcom CGM (constant glucose monitor).

I was SO impressed watching her progress at school the other day when she was assembling the flashlights, etc. Her communication skills are improving by leaps & bounds!! It's NO TELLING what the future holds!! It seems the sky's the limit! When Isaiah goes to college, I'm certain that each time he comes home for holidays, etc,, he's going to be SO impressed with her progress. I'm SO happy for her & you all for all of her accomplishments. She DEFINITELY should be celebrated, as I KNOW you all do often. I know it does your hearts good to see all of these fantastic advances. I feel like I learn so much! And, Miss Abigail Loraine, you ROCKED that app little lady! Dad, don't forget to add her Alexa commands. Could you put her room on "Alexa" so she could tell her to turn on or off her room? Just a thought. I could see Abigail using Alexa to become even MORE independent!! Alexa, play music, Alexa, turn on the TV, Alexa, clean my room... oh wait, no, she can't do that ... dang it!

When you give her regular spaghetti (or any noodles) have her eat it with a spoon. My child shovels food in and eats too fast also so I give him a spoon for noodles to make it much harder to pick up the food. Yes, it frustrates him a bit but it really slows him down. Plus he hates touching food with his hands so he won’t pick up the food with his hands even if the spoon is slowing him down so it’s a win win for us!

I hate to see him in such a rough way, but he has taught me a lot on love and patience. He use to use a tablet that you change the little picture manually. It really wasn't an electronic device. We bought him a tablet but thru it across the room and stomped on it and broke it. I really like the protector that this one had it looks durable. Also the apps you use are really good. OMG! She's the boss now! She is doing so well, looking for categories. Been watching for a while. Just subscribed. Love all the family (and Summer who is family really). Down to earth family who never stop trying to improve Abbie's life and independence. You are all inspirational.

Love seeing Abbie communicating with her tablet. So many future things she can learn. I agree with you the as soon as something is marked for special needs or healthy they have to make outrageously priced. Anything healthy or that makes life better for someone with special needs should be affordable for them. Looking forward to seeing Abbie communicate more with her tablet.

This is great to see her dive right into a new device and immediately have success.
It's also encouraging to see and hear of her successes generalizing her communication skills from app to app. I know that may not be true for all kids - but at least it lessens the pressure of getting it perfect from the start.
To families looking into AAC devices for the first time, if you have access to a speech-language pathologist, many of them can support in the planning and implementation of a communication device.
In Canada, assistive devices (including but not limited to AAC) may also be covered by our healthcare system (I'm sure the process varies slightly from place to place so I won't get into specifics).

I love watching abbie, my brother (he's older then me) has autism and didn't start talking till he was 5 he's now 27 but he can't communicate very well still if he meets new people he can't talk to them not even on interviews, my auntie is his power of attorney and all the people that know they ring her to make a appointment with her and make sure my brother knows as well so it's easier for him but he can do everything him self and lives on his own

I’m a new subscriber but I just had to jump on here and comment. I wanted to say I’ve binged watched y’alls vlogs all last night/today and I absolutely love your interactions with Abbie. It warms my heart watching your videos with her. I love that you include not only the good times but the not so easy times and the information you share is helpful. Your hearts are so big. She’s such a smart kiddo and your such an awesome family. ❤️ okay okay I’ll stop being mushy now ☺️😉

We typically buy a kindle or two every Black Friday because she goes through destructive phases. Although now they just get run into the ground because of high usage.
The search option is actually really neat. That’s one thing we struggle with is remembering where specific buttons are.

I am so glad she is able to use her device independently. I hope you can keep adding things on every week to teach her more.

Go AAC!! This is my specific area of interest. I’m sure you guys know this (because you are using one) but for anyone watching the video, it’s Alternative and Augmentative Communication! I hate correcting people but AAC is my life ❤️❤️

Pretty sure it’s officially the other way around *Augmentative and Alternative...although it doesn’t really matter because it means the same thing. 😁
