Abbie has used an iPad mini before for communication and she's used Dynavox software before but never together. The iPad seems to be the most powerful tool for communication on the market and so far she's doing great with it. Check out the AAC apps for iPad and Android tablets.

amber nodine can you help me I have autism

I love Abbie she's so pretty . a lot of my friends have autism too but they can all talk.
@@sofiagarts2307 my friends have autism but they aren't non verbal.
Autism is a really common thing but mute autisum is my as common
Same
My sister has it x
I have autism and I used to be non verbal when I was little
“You better give that baby some cookies Asa Maass.” 😂 I was thinking that as soon as Priscilla said it.
Good job Abbie!!! You’re killing it girl!
dad: ✋😀

Peppa what are you doing in my comment section😂
@@pryceproffit3600 I'm the 70 like👌🏽😂
Why was that comment so perfect
happi how so?
At first when I started watching you guys I wasn’t sure why. But something about your family really got me interested! You are so true and honest to us and I love it. I find myself loving to see everything Abbie is doing. I am going to be a teacher in just a few short years and I think the stuff I watch through you guys will be so useful for my career! ❤️
Hey Abbie!! My 5 year old never misses a vlog. She is always asking to watch Abbie. Love you guys!!
them:👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤚🏻🤚🏻🤚🏻
abbie:🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪
I love more informative vlogs. As someone who is really new to all this it really helps having a parents perspective and their recommendations/suggestions that they have found help. While our therapists and doctors etc are great they don't have that personal hands on experience that parents do so I look towards other parents whenever I can.
BH BH
My non verbal cousin has that. Very helpful tool!
Something I would suggest doing is making a picture that says that the iPad mini is a medical device with a number to call if it should get lost/stolen in public & set it as the lock screen picture.
My 3 year old nephew is a type 1 diabetic & that’s what my sister did with the old iPhone we’re using for his Dexcom CGM (constant glucose monitor).
That’s a terrific idea.
Practically in tears over this new milestones. So proud of Asa and Pricilla To be amazing parents. Thank you for your contributions and sharing about the voice apps
Does Abbie respond to affection like hugs etc to help her calm down when she's agitated?
bruh...everyone responds to hugs...
@@erich5162 if I'm agitated this last thing I want is a constricting hug.
@@erich5162 depends on the kid/person.
Malin Maria Wikmark I don’t have anxiety, depression, or autism and whenever I’m stressed I usually put a hoodie on and tie the sleeves tight around my chest to feel embraced. My parents always joke how often I hug them. It just depends on the kid.🤷♂️
Yes
i coached a special needs cheer squad at my church and i was working one on one with a girl who was very limited in her speech because she was deaf as well as on the spectrum, she had a communication device and it helped alot with understanding what she wanted to say
you guys are amazing and im proud of you all! Asa and Priscilla and her brother, summer, school.....new talking device that she mastered!!!!! shes so lucky! Dad, I cried at the end cause Abby was thriving and your hard work always works out! so proud!!!!! you have the right to feel proud of your daughter and yourselves for all your hard work!
Communication like a boss Abbie, A BOSS!!!
Glad she didn’t leave ya hanging! 😂 Thanks for sharing this info, I’m going to check the links out now! 👍🏽
You’re welcome!
Wow, Abbie has been doing FANTASTIC in recent times!!! She has learned SO MUCH in the year & a half or so since I started watching. She just never ceases to amaze me!! I was SO impressed watching her progress at school the other day when she was assembling the flashlights, etc. Her communication skills are improving by leaps & bounds!! It's NO TELLING what the future holds!! It seems the sky's the limit! When Isaiah goes to college, I'm certain that each time he comes home for holidays, etc,, he's going to be SO impressed with her progress. I'm SO happy for her & you all for all of her accomplishments. She DEFINITELY should be celebrated, as I KNOW you all do often. I know it does your hearts good to see all of these fantastic advances. WAY TO GO ABIGAIL!!!
i really love this girl because she know what sheveants to do at time..
Hey guys, yayy Abbie!! I'm so excited for her!? I love Abbie so much she always makes me smile!!
I’ve only been watching your family vlogs for a few months, but I am SO proud of Abbie!!

I recently had a moment where a friend had mentioned the question "what would you do if your child was autistic or something." I replied with "idk i would be terrified"
another friend who was there commented by saying "that makes no sense"
Long story short, i found your channel through my recommended. The relationship and love you have with your family is beautiful. I realize my fear came from lack of understanding and I wanted to let you know your channel taught me that. Thank you.
Dont forget golf cart.
At my school we are able to do recess with kids with autism I love kids with autism they are so sweet and so is abby
Proud of you Abbie. Your doing a great job! 🙂
Abbie is so amazing. Hope you guys have an amazing day.
Abbie is amazing and improving!! I love u so much Abbie and ur so smart! 😃
That is so great! So glad Abbie is able to communicate more efficiently. My brother uses a talker with AAC, and it’s brilliant to see him communicating with others who he once wasn’t able to. Hope it works so well for you, you all deserve it ❤️
This video was amazing, all the information was exactly what I am looking for at the moment. Thanks 😀
Yay she is doing such an awesome job way to go Abbie. I just have to say watching how patient you guys are with Abbie helps me be more patient with my boys. My youngest has some sensory issues and some times I get so frustrated but watching you guys and how great you guys are really has helped me with my kids 😊
How wonderful!! I'm so happy for you all! This really made me smile.
lovely family!! Abbie is adorable....life is precious
For once I’m not upset that a random video showed up in my recommended. You all are so lovely!
Can I just say you all are doing an amazing job she is killing it with everything she does
I just love how cute Abbie always looks, from her hair to her clothes. She's such a doll. Love It!!
Love learning all about these devices and apps that are giving Abbie a chance to communicate. Abbie you rock with how well you are doing! Thank you Maass Family for helping us to learn too! Love you all!😊💕💕
I stumbled upon you guys while scrolling through Facebook videos. Now, I can’t wait for a vlog. Thanks for sharing your family and life with all of us. I really got SO happy and giggled when Abbie got through the categories and girl just wanted her cookies. I can relate. 🍪
That’s awesome! Glad you found us on FB!
Loved seeing how well Abbie communicated at the beginning of this video. Wow & with eating too you're doing such a great job Abbie. Thanks to Asa for showing the different apps available for tablets/ipads etc. While my son has limited verbal communication when he's having a rough day he can be non verbal so I'm hoping they will help him communicate more when he struggles.
You guys are great parents, so sweet and patient! Wish yall the best😊
We used to use Jabatalk on my old android phone. I found it very easy to use and I could take my own pictures with the camera to take away any ambiguity that we struggled with with PECS or even downloaded pictures.
she cracks me up cookies . she so cute just want give her big hugs. im a mom of a 20 year old, no disabilities tho. i do have depression and some other health problems but abbie she a doll . abbie will be able to talk i just know it!!! love you guys
Denielle I am so happy that Abbie has a new voice so she can talk more in the vlogs.
WOW!! So impressed on how fast Abbie has picked up on her new device, I'm so proud of her it melts my heart. 💕
Good job Isaiah on getting that juice. 😁
Abbie is a hard worker she is striving every single day, I am so proud of her progress. What a great video. #maasssquad
This was great! Such a proud moment! You go Abby girl!
Asa and Priscilla, this vlog ROCKED! Actually shared it with my niece to look at for my great niece who is on the spectrum as well. I really like the "educational" type videos a lot. I feel like I learn so much! And, Miss Abigail Loraine, you ROCKED that app little lady! Dad, don't forget to add her Alexa commands. Could you put her room on "Alexa" so she could tell her to turn on or off her room? Just a thought. I could see Abigail using Alexa to become even MORE independent!! Alexa, play music, Alexa, turn on the TV, Alexa, clean my room... oh wait, no, she can't do that ... dang it!
love this
This video put a smile on my face the whole way through!
Abbie is a lovely girl! Give her hugs for us! - Maria
Gosh I just wanna hug her, I feel like her parent, so proud of the accomplishments she has made! You guys are such amazing parents and she is so lucky to have parents that care so deeply for her ❤️
Abbie is so smart! I love being able to see her learn and then apply that learning😊
When I see videos from months ago, Priscilla blows me away at the change. Girl, you are rocking it!!! I saw your video today with the three month check-up. Wow! It's not just the weight it's how happy you look and the spring in your step.
That is incredible because she was having a hard time with the other apps you where useing it's cool to see that she is just boom picking up on it so fast
I believe I’ve been watching you guys for over a year now and honestly I’m so happy to see how far Abbie has come. I know it must be hard sometimes to show all the very personal parts of your life but I’m so glad you do. I feel like I’ve learned so much about the world of Autism through these videos.
This video has been helpful. We are in the same situation with our daughter don't want to spend so much money on something she could break or not use. Finding cheaper things to test the waters with is awesome thanks for the info.
She is doing soooo amazing!!! So much improvement!
Found your channel on fb about 2 weeks ago. After watching one video I went straight to UA-cam to subscribe. I love everything about your channel and your family. My son and husband always seem to stop what they are doing when they hear me watching and start watching with me. My husband said I really love what his channel stands for. You're so informative and we love seeing Ms. Abby ❤
"Cookies! I said cookies. Come on dad I want some cookies. Stop talking and get me cookies."
Sweet girl I just want to say thanks to all the people out there is support her by sending her things are just in the comments and to all the other parents with children like this and other disabled individuals as well I am one also but you learn to live with your disability and how did you do different things which gives you a sensitive of worth so to speak so again thanks to you all that is what humanity is
Hello Masse family! I am fairly new to your channel and I've been binge watching your blogs the past few weeks. I LOVE what you guys are doing, please dont ever stop!
She seems like such a natural on her new program! Great job Abbie 💓
I love your channel so much it really helps me understand where my brother comes from ( he is autistic) thank you for everything you do 😉💕💕
How old is your brother??
He is 9
@@laurenmayers291 There is a special bond you siblings have with one another. It's extremely endearing and believe it or not it's assuring to us parents knowing you'll always be there for one another... Hugs to you and your brother...
#AutismRockz Family thank you so much 😊
Your channel is great
Good job on eating slow and using ur communication device u did awesome keep up the good work. Loved how she kept Asa hanging with the high five u guys r great love watching ur vlogs and so does my 10 yr old he has autism to and just loves Abbie.
And for breakfast, Cinnamon Toast Crunch Penne 😂
Amazing job communicating sweet girl!! So happy she has the new device!!
CONGRATS ON 140K!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So proud of you guys!
I have no idea why I am liking almost all the comments
Favourite you tube channel. Watch it from Ireland. When Abbie smiles, it makes life brighter. So clever with the voice app. Love the clever endings
When you give her regular spaghetti (or any noodles) have her eat it with a spoon. My child shovels food in and eats too fast also so I give him a spoon for noodles to make it much harder to pick up the food. Yes, it frustrates him a bit but it really slows him down. Plus he hates touching food with his hands so he won’t pick up the food with his hands even if the spoon is slowing him down so it’s a win win for us!
Wow Abbie! I am so proud of your progress!
Abbie, you were on fire today! Make progress and showing life who’s boss! Well done! Great video as always!
Great job Abbie. That is so fantastic! I’m looking at all the progress this girl has made. Oh my goodness, how amazing is Abigail. 💜🌹
not sure why i am still watching your videos guys but i love them! Abbie is such a lovely girl and so smart!
I love it when Abbie progresses or does great with her communication...you go Abbie!. Also I love how happy it makes you guys, it makes my heart smile.
16:25 how long will Abbie leave Asa hangin'? .....if you guessed 18 awkward seconds, go and get yourself a biscuit! ;-)
Thank you so much for making this video. My daughter, Rainbow, has just been diagnosed at 26 months and isn't completely non-verbal, but she's got significant language delays. I've seen your later videos using it and was wondering how you did it. She has a fire tablet for kids and is a wizard at working it and drilling down for exactly what she wants. I was very much hoping she could use what we already had. You've really done us all a solid creating this. Thank you so much. I'm sure she'll be very excited. I know I am! 🥳
Abbie is so similar to my daughter 🥰MAASS FAMILY IS AWESOME!
Abbie your partents are the best 👍😂😄
Abbie you are an absolute super star. I am so proud of you. Good work beautiful girl 😘💕
Just a thought (I am new to your channel). Have a cover made “non verbal autistic” similar to the seatbelt cover, for her backpack. Abbie is so lucky to have such a wonderful family and you are all blessed to have her ❤️
So proud of you all. Great job !!!
Amazing work Abbie well done .😘Thanks for shareing 🎈
It’s great for Abigail that she has her own voice to help with communication
Yay I’m so happy Abbie has a device to communicate.
Hi Fathering Autism family.. I love this vlog. I have a nephew who can not communicate. He is autistic, and has developmental delay problems. Besides those things he has siezures. I hate to see him in such a rough way, but he has taught me a lot on love and patience. He use to use a tablet that you change the little picture manually. It really wasn't an electronic device. We bought him a tablet but thru it across the room and stomped on it and broke it. I really like the protector that this one had it looks durable. Also the apps you use are really good. I'm going to show this vlog to my sister so she can look on getting it for my nephew. Thank you so much for this video and sharing this information. Blessing for you and the whole family.
Love Abby's New device Congratulations everyone! Never boring always informative and we are always rooting for your family. Love to all
So cute you can see her improvement every video she is lucky to have such amazing understanding family
First video I’ve watched of y’all. I think one of the others has watched your videos though because we’re already subscribed. I think I’m going to be watching the rest of your videos for the rest of the day lol. Como estas? We all hope you are all having a wonderful day! -Maria
Abbie is so adorable.
i love her she is so beautiful
I love how you all work really well to accommodate her needs and it is very heartwarming.
It seems like their entire lives, every minute revolves around her. It's very sweet, such a selfless family.❤ I hope mine would do the same for me.
Thanks asa so much, this is going to help me so much!
OMG! She's the boss now! She is doing so well, looking for categories. Been watching for a while. Just subscribed. Love all the family (and Summer who is family really). Down to earth family who never stop trying to improve Abbie's life and independence. You are all inspirational.
You guys are an inspiration, what a loving family you are. 🍪🍪🍪
Love seeing Abbie communicating with her tablet. So many future things she can learn. I agree with you the as soon as something is marked for special needs or healthy they have to make outrageously priced. Anything healthy or that makes life better for someone with special needs should be affordable for them. Looking forward to seeing Abbie communicate more with her tablet.
This is great to see her dive right into a new device and immediately have success.
It's also encouraging to see and hear of her successes generalizing her communication skills from app to app. I know that may not be true for all kids - but at least it lessens the pressure of getting it perfect from the start.
To families looking into AAC devices for the first time, if you have access to a speech-language pathologist, many of them can support in the planning and implementation of a communication device.
In Canada, assistive devices (including but not limited to AAC) may also be covered by our healthcare system (I'm sure the process varies slightly from place to place so I won't get into specifics).
I love watching abbie, my brother (he's older then me) has autism and didn't start talking till he was 5 he's now 27 but he can't communicate very well still if he meets new people he can't talk to them not even on interviews, my auntie is his power of attorney and all the people that know they ring her to make a appointment with her and make sure my brother knows as well so it's easier for him but he can do everything him self and lives on his own
I’m a new subscriber but I just had to jump on here and comment. I wanted to say I’ve binged watched y’alls vlogs all last night/today and I absolutely love your interactions with Abbie. It warms my heart watching your videos with her. I love that you include not only the good times but the not so easy times and the information you share is helpful. Your hearts are so big. She’s such a smart kiddo and your such an awesome family. ❤️ okay okay I’ll stop being mushy now ☺️😉
We typically buy a kindle or two every Black Friday because she goes through destructive phases. Although now they just get run into the ground because of high usage.
The search option is actually really neat. That’s one thing we struggle with is remembering where specific buttons are.
I am so glad she is able to use her device independently. I hope you can keep adding things on every week to teach her more.
So happy Abbie has her voice back!!! That was wonderful to watch!!
Go AAC!! This is my specific area of interest. I’m sure you guys know this (because you are using one) but for anyone watching the video, it’s Alternative and Augmentative Communication! I hate correcting people but AAC is my life ❤️❤️
Pretty sure it’s officially the other way around *Augmentative and Alternative...although it doesn’t really matter because it means the same thing. 😁
FatheringAutism haha 🙈 this is why I hate correcting people
at 16:43 it sounds like she says "high-five" and then gives you a high-five! I just started watching y'all and she is the sweetest little girl.
