I never thought of using a capo to hold the string in place! That's brilliant thank you!

Thanks for making this video! I have both a 360/12 and a 330/6, and absolutely zero experience in stringing them. You've given me a shot of enthusiasm, so I found this really helpful.

Oh man, capo to keep the strings in place, what a great idea!!! I've got a Godin A12 that would certainly make life a bit simpler.

+Larry Van Ah, well I always love learning new things!!! Wasn't until this year that I learned to tighten down the screw on the turning peg and about picking/strumming natural harmonics before the fretted finger. Had a really sweet sound that I liked when I was recording a particular song.

Capo, to hold the string in place, so two hands are free to finish the winding. BRILLIANT!!!

The right way is; remove all the old strings then remove the R tailpiece and turn it over.
Next, put all the string in the slots, then cover the slots with a piece of masking tape, to keep the strings from coming back out of the slots.
Put the tail piece back on and attach the high and low E strings and bring them up to tension.
Put the rest of the strings on and remove the tape.
The is the correct way and how the techs at Rickenbacker do it!

You forgot to mention the slot head tuners! As you know it has different style tuners so that it has a normal size headstock. The capo is a good idea though.

Taking all the strings off might be ideal for if you're cleaning up the Guitar. This particular 12 String is strung backwards from every other one meaning the bigger string goes before the octave string cause it produces a very special sound you'll hear in turn turn turn by the Byrds.

Most videos about restring a RIC 12 string suggest that the ball end be placed in the tail piece first. A friend of mine has a 360/12 and he suggests the low strings be started that way an that for the octave strings, the string be started through the post in the tuner first and then the ball end be placed in the tail piece.

@uragirl M Hi, there is no need to stretch the strings. If you want to save time with the natural stretch, tune the strings up a 1/2 step then let them sit. they should be tunable with minimal stretch after that. Be careful not to over reach the 1/2 step. That high G string is very breakable.

Hi, yes, it could be the guitar was never adjusted right. The 370 models were problematic and are no longer made except as a custom order. The Battery problem was mentioned by Roger McGuinn. The 360 has a much better neck. Removing the pickguard was a hassle for that model I agree.

Hi there - its the restringing of the higher octave strings at the headstock end that I need help with. Have you got a video/advice for that please?

  • @Seishi41

Should I stretch the strings as well? I noticed that that was omitted.

I just purchased a 360/12, and my first time changing strings was a real nightmare, so I got excited when I saw that there was a video about it. Unfortunately, the way you have your camera positioned, I couldn't see (or hear) what you were doing at the business end (the head) of your guitar. Also, I found the strings that went into the grooves to be more problematic and was hoping for a tip on how to secure them. I love the capo idea, though.

My advice is stay away from any Rick with a black tailpiece. The thing is basically hardened plastic. Reports from everywhere claim it basically will snap and hit you in the face. What pissed me off is one of the Rick admins. said " Oh just use lighter tension strings." MAKE A BETTER TAILPIECE. Not use light tension strings.

  • @pigjubby1
    @pigjubby1 11 років тому

Get rid of the 'R' tailpiece.
    The vintage is the best.

you are restringing that rickey wrong you want to actually want to start in the middle of the guitar with either the D or G strings and work your way each direction.
