That's funny, In the Arabic language, advice is a countable noun, we say "one advice, two advices..." so we have the plural... I guess every language has different rules.
Is the right sentence: thank you for the excellent advice. it really helps me Or the right one is: thank you for the excellent advice. They really help me. Which one is the correct one the sentence with "it" or the sentence with "they" Plz teacher if you see my question.i hope to give me an answer🙏
I thought I'm an advanced learner, but this video proved I was wrong! Many mistakes I had, so I have to review all intermediate courses again. This video was very useful, thanks Lisa!
So many born in the USA say #3 incorrectly! I’m so glad you covered this. The way I always double check is to remove the other name, just as you did, and it always works. Thank you!
Oops! Glad I reviewed this one, found myself incredibly wrong on the same ones...not excuses cause you're a great teacher and explain things so well! THANK YOU!
I tutor ESL and the video where we have to say whether the sentence is correct or incorrect was really good and very enjoyable. The students loved it. I hope you make more like this.
I have been following your videos for more than six months . They are very useful ones to improve my English and take it to the higher levels . I did less than five mistakes, although I know them but the most important thing is recycling the information, especially the grammar because it is sometimes forgettable . Thank so much ❤️ for this amazing presentation as well as the the useful quiz !
Honorable Lisa, you are so lovely, sensitive, and detailed. I love your classes, there´s always something I learn from you and everything that you prepare for us is professional, practical, and truly real
I am good! lol I should be. Like you, I am also a teacher. I've been teaching english and spanish for -give or take- the last 50 years. But you are great! Your way of explaining has given me so many bright and more practical ideas to enhance my teaching. My respects to you, Ma'am, and thanks a million!!
Good morning Lisa.. Since last two years my children and i also continuously follow your UA-cam channel. It's a valuable one in our life. I couldn't forget your a class and you because it helped me to win IELTS exam here at Kerala in India. Continuously follow everyday in the morning while i gotup as my routine. I have much in the American accent, grammar, listen, how to use understand others pronounciation either British or American and Australian a little. I am proud of you. Because i could gradually able to follow the news reader Miss.Becy's pronounciation by CNN..and trying to get it more. Your presentation was my first class in my life as a study in American Accent.Thise presentation sucked me plenty than others so i could get grow up more and more in American Accent. I would like to say you with proud i feel i have much confidence.. Thank you so much indeed. In truth you are a Gift from Jesus . Again paying you a warm Thanks both Jesus and You . With regards America, The America and American.
I live in UK but used to learn American eng. for half of my life..and always love it as is such clear..Great Job & Big Thank you to remaind me this grammar lesson Lisa. YOU are Great Teacher I ever had👍
Love teacher!!! In my country, there is teachers' day. In these days. We show our respect for Teachers. And i also do the same thing for you. Teacher! Love. ...much
#4 is not gramatically incorrect. It is perfectly fine to say that someone doesn't have to smoke. The question says nothing about it having to be the opposite of "have to".
Thanks a whole lot for your awesome videos! Keep up the good work! We kind of wish you would include more US idioms and slang expressions in your teaching materials, though, so we could communicate with native speakers of American English on an entirely new level. - ESL students from Moscow, Russia
Detected all of the mistakes except the one regarding the doctor and I’m still convinced that both sentences are true, no one can really know whether the doctor told her that smoking is unnecessary for you or if it “obligatory” for her not to smoke. Both work
BY THE WAY, I'VE NEVER HEARD A NATIVE SPEAKING WITH A VERY CLEAR DICTION LIKE YOU. I'M HAPPY EVEN I'M BRAZILIAN AND SO MY NATIVE LANGUAGE IS PORTUGUESE, I CAN UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING YOU SPEAK! GOD BLESS YOU!
Time flies when we indulge ourselves in the things that interest us. This lesson is such an interesting one that made time fly. Thanks a zillion, Lisa.
Ms Lisa, your skill is so appropriate that we are highly benefited. How many videos you have released? Would you please help get the chronology of your videos?
Rise and shine, Lisa! I watched and corrected and improved my English grammar competency where I lagged behind. But while watching it, I came across you fourth question and didn't quite well understand your explanation. I wonder why you didn't backshift " have to " into " had to . It is a reported speech and verbs must be backshifted into one tense back. That's called a sequence of tome in English grammar. I am sure you know it. Your sentence: 4) My doctor told me that I have to exercise more, and that I don't have time. When we convert Direct speech into Reported speech, the verbs must be backshifted one tense back, mustn't they? My sentence: My doctor told me that I had to exercise more, and that I didn't have to smoke. What's your take on that? I appreciate it. Thumbs up! You are our Pride and Joy! Cheers!
I understand your question. In indirect speech we generally back shift the tense, but not always. If what is said is still true at the time of reporting then we can retain the tense. So if I still have to exercise, (from my example about the doctor's advice) then we don't back shift the tense. Here are two sample sentences: "He told me that he spoke French at the meeting." (the meeting happened in the past) versus: "He told me that he speaks French." (It's a fact that is still true today.) When teaching the back shifting rule in reported speech, English teachers often omit this second point.
Thanks, beautiful Lisa for brilliant grammar notifications! It was great to discover the meaning of "have" like "make" and a little Perfect Tense tip! I really want more such hilarious quiz grammar video trying to fill my gaps! Recently, from your book I've learned about American "u" pronunciation vs British "yu". It's helped me in understanding pleasure song, catching American accent forming and categorize American/British pronunciation differences. Reading Oscar Wilde's tail diglott, I found question form grammar structure you were talking about in video with Samantha Grant. Though I follow Dr Berg`s pieces of advice and keep keto diet, rewatching this video memorizes me inverted word order features. Thanks for your steady efforts!
I remember - past Simple tense we use with things, which ended in the past, and don't infuence the "now" And the Present Perfect we use to talk about things, which began in the past and ended in the past, but it infuence the "now".
Thank you for making this video. I understood what I did not understand before and gained knowledge you shared. Please make more videos like this. I will watch more.
Thank you Madam, you're very very good our teacher. I am always watching your English teaching, I am learning English language through your teaching. May God bless you abundantly 🙏
'I watched film' is better than I saw film . In modern English , these verbs 'allow and help' are considered as ,' bare infinitive ' , therefore we don't use 'to' after these . Thank u
Thanks Lissa for your dedication. I wrote down all gramathical rules, according to your final conclusion, I am in intermediate level. It is complex to jump from intermediate to advance if you dont work grammathical rules appropiately. Thanks, Again for useful time to post piece of information! You are a generous person.
I would like to express a special thanks of gratitude to Lisa as she create such beneficial videos. I am looking forward to watching the coming videos :) Furthermore, I wanna add something about context. Lisa, I take much more advantage of your videos where you interview a native living in the USA.
I want to tank you for taking the time to teach us. I started watching your videos a few days ago, I am very confident I'll increase my vocabulary as well my pronunciation. I am looking forward to watch more videos because I am very exited to learn English and been more fluent. 🙂
A little suggestion for "not so brilliant students": sometimes you could give a little tip or clue: ex: in phrase number 13 THERE IS ONE WORD TOO MANY" (preposition TO). Anyway, congrats Lisa!
Thank you so much for making this video. Could you please create more videos like this one as I see they are very useful to learn and are the common mistakes which all the English learners often make. Thanks again
Hello miss , Your way of teaching English is unique from all the others videos available on you tube .your talking to native speaker from different parts of life is really helpful to get to real American English . I forgot to include the answer to sentence 9. : ( It's an incorrect sentence because "advice" is an uncountable noun. We cannot add an "s".
That's funny, In the Arabic language, advice is a countable noun, we say "one advice, two advices..." so we have the plural...
I guess every language has different rules.
