I went to San Diego a few years back, and visit the Gaslamp district where i decided to get dinner. I happened to choose a quasi random place, and ended up at La Puerta. Obviously, I didn't' know at the time, but I am glad i can now say, I ate at one of the best Hehe😁
Some good drink and foods deals.I'd love to visit some of the places.I do have a fondess for Old town, I had some decent mexican food there and frozen Margaritas!
Yeah before they closed for good, I hit up Moose McGillycuddys down at the Gaslamp District back in the 90s during my US Navy days 🤣⚓️ We used to walk the entire district for a few happy hour drinks and then hop a cab to Garnet Ave Pacific Beach and get wasted all night 🍺🍻🍺🤣🤣🤣 Aahh the days of our youth…it’s wasted on the young 🤣. Thanks for the memories anyway Man! 👍🏾✌🏾
I totally got nailed the first time I used Ironside's house hot sauce. Completely expected a shaker top, just like you. The bottle totally needs a warning. The $hit in a shell is great because you also get some ceviche mixed in. I can also vouch for the chowder fries. I removed my answer to your question because I already have one of those postcards on my refrigerator. Looks like another great list. I live in UTC and have not yet been to the Cove House. Will be going next weekend. Thx for the shoutout.
Miguel's Cocina. That's my go-to. One time, after work. Judy and I just decided we wanted to have dinner there. Drove all the way from OC to Old Town SD just to eat there!
Casa Guadalajara in old town. 5 PM Monday through Friday 375 house margaritas. Free chips and salsa. And they were all out with steamer tray after steamer tray of enchiladas, taquitos, tostadas, etc. everything in the steamer trays is free with your paid drink

Hey, I am bartender here in SD and I think it would fun to do the best Neighborhood/Dive bars. I know not everyone likes downtown or popular places. People tend to gravitate towards local places!!!
Used to go to “La Puerta” in Gaslamp quite a bit later in the evenings. I remember good aromas entering that restaurant (i.e. maybe it was their chips and salsa) but I never had *stellar* Mexican food there that I can remember. It was good but not off the charts.
I can’t remember that restaurant some yards away from La Puerta that was a good Oyster Bar. I think I had a seafood tower there once. It was good and the restaurant was upscale but I can’t remember the name or if it’s still there. Oysters are supposedly a said aphrodisiac but I think that’s an old wives tale in terms of real world sex.

Brigantine (in Del Mar) has a very good happy hour overlooking the racetrack. Great place to check out the fairground lights during fair season.

Topsail or miguels at portside pier is fun or Cannonball in Mission Beach has nice ocean views!

Old Town is great, touristy but if u go at the right time u can find some awesome food
Isola in Little Italy has $5 margarita pizzas (my fav Neapolitan-style pizza in town) and great drink specials!
