Here I am in Sweden. An American “ex-Pat” raised in San Diego who has been living in Europe for over 30 years. And here I am LONGING for these meals you so casually recommend. I wish that I could beg for mercy!
You gotta give the Chicken Pie Shop a try. $11 gets you a chicken pie, mashed potatoes, vegetable, cole slaw, bun and pie for dessert. This is classic San Diego cheap food that has been around for 100 years. Back in the late 80's pie dinner there cost $4. Oh well inflation. Also try Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad. $11 gets you steak dinner. Or buy a steak at the butcher shop and they will cook it for $6 extra including sides. There are all sorts of dinner options that cost around $11 Big Johns's breakfast there costs $7.50 including eggs, potatoes and all the sausage, ham, and bacon you can cram into your gullet.
There’s a Rally’s in Spring Valley off of Jamacha Rd. And Sweetwater Rd. Also one in Chula Vista off Third and Moss St. and the newest location on S.30th and National Ave. in Logan Heights.
We are planning our vacation in San Diego & I am watching every single one of your videos & making a list writing places down to visit, eat & have a great time with the family. So thank you so much for all your videos.
When I use to work as a nurse, my coworkers dad made fortune cookies. She would always bring in a huge box filled with them. They were all the cookies that didn’t make the cut cause they were broke or not folded right. Great video. Thanks for the cheap eats video.
Steve was there with Lucky Breakfast in North Park near the Farmers Market. (Also try ZIAS PIZZA 🍕 on Adams by the Normal Heights sign. Support Lucky!!! Luckys Breakfast diner in north Park. Super retro. TIP BIG!! Tough times w covid and no price increases. Dedicated to the community. (🍕ZIAS 🍕 PIZZA on Adams ave near the Normal Heights sign. Crazy slices and delicious crust. Inventive and supports the community. Thanks
Just discovered your channel and I love your videos, especially this one since I'm always looking for cheap eats! Btw, there is a Rally's inside Wal-Mart on Murphy Canyon though it's not a stand alone like the ones you mentioned.
Antique Row Cafe is definitely #1 on my list for breakfast spots! Everything is super reasonably priced, the portions are giant and the owner is one of the nicest people ever!
There is a Rally in El Cajon and by the way it is next-door to one of our favorite places called Valley Food and right down the street harvest food. These or Mediterranean grocery stores that have hot food … absolutely delicious they have a tray for three with different grilled meats, grilled vegetables over rice and delicious Mediterranean bread and it easily serves five people and I think it’s about $25. They also have fantastic soups and really great home cooked food. I’m originally from New York City and love good inexpensive food that is authentic. Thank your channel is great.
Great video!! Oside!!! Any way.. Cafe 86 has the best Taro milkshake but ah it’s not the cheapest but it’s the best Taro for sure!! Oh also.. PepperTree in vista is a mom and Pop ice cream/ food stand been there since like the early 50s I believe.. they have amazing ice cream shakes/malts.. and if your craving a deep fried burrito you gotta go there!!
You're cool, JJ. We can always use some cheap eats. Lucky's looks especially good. I love really old-time places like that. The worn formica and the worn people are real.
I was in the other room and heard you mention ramen, I automatically thought of Mitsuwa. It tastes just like good old “hole in the wall “ ramen in Japan. Nigiya has the best bento.
For cheap omlettes too try Aunt Emmas in Chula Vista or National City, on weekdays they have the 2 egg omlette special, about 6 bucks for an omlette with pancakes
Have you tried el patron in mira mesa? love that place for taco tuesdays it’s so cheap and the adobada is so good. Really dope you went to TJ Tacos miss that place so much. Great video

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been back to daygo but what about Alberto‘s? The first thing I do once I get off the plane is hit up some cheap Mexican food and Alberto’s is my spot. It always feel like home to me to have a Carneia Sada burrito or their Carneia Asada chips.
Thanh tihn chay in city heights is my favorite bang for buck place. Amazing vegan Vietnamese food (traditional) and cheap prices. Favorite place hands down and affordable
