Mr. Elgar, this is one of the best photography videos I have seen in a long time! You are so passionate and knowledgeable about the subject but you manage to present it in a very friendly way. Thank you!
Peter, just came across your fantastic videos. Refreshing to watch a real person rather than a teenager in a designer baseball cap looking for sponsorship. My first camera as a youngster was an Ilford Sprite, Christmas gift about 1965, and then had to wait until my birthday the following September for a roll of film! Keep up the great work.
You had to wait 9 months for a roll of film! It's interesting to hear how valuable film was back then. I remember my father telling me, he used to go on a 3 month vacation each year and he'd only bring one roll with him. Quite insane by today's standards.
Oh Peter it's great to here those dulcit tones from you again.....you never fail to educate us lesser experienced film groupies.....it's just such a pleasure to see you here again explaining your skills and adventures in such a professional way as you allways do.
Thanks -- some time ago one ' Nasty Viewer' complained that my voice was 'Too Loud' -- well he could always have turned down the Volume on his computer !
Peter you are a treasure, I learn so much watching you. Thank you so much, really enjoyed seeing your photos and hearing your stories... Always look forward to watching videos showcasing your wit, experiences and funny sense of humour.
YO ! I went to Calgary for the 'Stampede' with the Pentax Club of Great Britain -- I ordered a Pancake thinking it would be similar to the ones we get here in UK but the CANADIAN one was a STACK on a plate 1 foot in diameter with Maple Leaf Syrup on -- took me 2 hours to get through ---
Honestly, I expected a completely different video when I clicked on it, but I did not regret watching it. It brought me back to the times when I started to explore analog photography and it was much more of an intellectual challange, than fancy gears to achive something remarkable. I really liked Peter's photos - the puddle reflection in particular - and was carried away by his passion. I can confirm that his works do bring value to the world and hope he can keep taking photos for many years to come.
Peter, thank you for the trip down memory lane. I used that same developer tank back in the early 70s. I had a big Beseler enlarger and the iconic glow in the dark darkroom clock. Printing and hanging the print up to dry on the clothesline was so rewarding. Thanks again.
Wow! I feel so blessed to have encountered your presence, here on the internet. You shared so much knowledge that I will have to watch this video several times to even began to comprehend it all. Thank you very much brother.
Thank you, this brought back wonderful memories of when I first began taking pictures. Digital is so much easier, but just not the same experience and, so far, no where the quality of film and paper black and white. To my eye there is always a flatness and a lack of richness to digital black and white-though I am sure there are those who will disagree, there always are.
Hi Peter! Loved the video :) I'm 27 and I've been shooting film for 11 years, I fell in love with it at college. I also mainly shoot with one lens, my Nikon f3 and 50mm and shoot documentary/street photography and landscapes. I love it, although I do own a lot of old cameras now. Can't believe people throw away old equipment! Your photos are great and I love the puddle one - I get weird looks too sometimes but the shots are always worth it! :D
😆 I thought you were 21! I used to work at a family run camera shop and I managed to save whole load of amazing equipment from customers who wanted to throw it away, but now I have too many cameras 😆
Cracking video . Great fun watching it. Love the fact that you show us prints on video instead of putting up scans full screen as youtube photographers usually do.
Peter, you are the daddy! Excellent prints, great channel. If I could produce something half as good as you are doing I would be very pleased. If you ran a workshop I would be there. Thanks for getting me excited!
Thanks !! I will run some 'workshops' in 2022 in the Conservatory of my great Camera Club / Flickr Mate RAY - n the Ongar Road Brentwood -- you will have to travel !
Peter your knowledgable enthusiasm is just what the doctor ordered, as we all try to cope in these grievous times. Thank you for another great article, showcasing some lovely old cameras and lenses to inspire us and rekindle our spirits.
Very nice video, and great pictures, Peter! One camera and one lens is what I usually do, because limitations enhances creativity. A good thing you saved that gear too!
To date this is the most beautiful camera ever produced. With the winder it was also one of the fastest, if not the fastest, camera on sale. I have one that my dad owned from new but unfortunately mould got to it whilst it was in storage. Same goes on the Zeiss T* 50mm F1.4
My 50mm f1.4 Planar developed OIL on the aperture blades -- I sent it to a CONTAX Expert together with the 50mm f1.9 DSB from the FR-1 which refused to 'stop down' -- it cost me £ 35 for each lens but they are great again.
Congratulations on this video. What a memory!!! I spent hours and hours learning the art of negative development, and then the circulation... and the very good circulation was rare... But what a time... My kamera is Nikon FM... And my first kamera is Zenit TTL...
Love you enthusiasm. Youve left me excited to go out and shoot film. I have my F100 w/ Ektar 100 and Contax 645/fuji pro 400h loaded up and ready to go!!
Great stuff mate. I’m loving tripping about with a 35 1.4 it’s reinvigorated me. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos ...you talk great sense and will inspire lots of new photographers as you may not realise but you explain the triangle superbly.
WOW, yoi are great Peter and on old expired film. I always enjoy you videos and this was especially informative. I live in LA and sorry to say this but it was 20 degrees today, slightly windy and with some clouds. I shoot a lot of black and white, on 35 mm and medium format. Cheers!!!
amazing! very interesting story. as a manual lens shooter using a digital camera you reminded me how a tedious work yet very rewarding taking a snaps back in the days. your pictures are very beautiful. nothing beats a manual SLR. a class of its own. thank you for sharing.
How nice to hear someone talking about f stops, shutter speeds, film used, darkroom printing, etc. again. The Contax used to be a VERY expensive camera. That is why I opted for the Yashica bodies so I could use Zeiss lenses on a more economical body. Love the Zeiss lenses. Now I use Sony digital bridge cameras because of the Zeiss lenses and Kodak Easyshare bridge cameras because of the Schneider lenses. Don't have to keep changing lenses with the bridge cameras zoom lenses.

GREAT News in this time of 'LockDown'
The best landscape photographer I ever knew personally was a 70 year old woman who shot with nothing more than a Canon AE1 and a 50mm lens.
