Dear Sir. I have spent a happy hour and more, watching your “worm gittin’” videos, and I thought I would pass by to say thank you! Like someone said above, “the perfect Grandpa” (although, I am possibly older than you!) Decent, gentle, patient, kind and wise! These days we are so often divided; city/country, North/South, coast or inland, young/old, right-wing/left wing, black/white, Biden/Trump Christian/other etc that we forget that there are good folks everywhere, in every community, (as well as some bad ones). It is the same here in England, which is very sad. Thanks again for these great vids, and for sharing your knowledge and wisdom. Most of all, for your excellent company! Ps, when you said “You don’t have to disturb their habitat” and, (possibly in a later vid) you caught a small one and put it back, I knew you were a good person! Ps, here in England, the best place to get worms is from a cricket pitch. With your method, you don't have to wait for a wet summer's evening. BUT ALWAYS ask permission, and NEVER dig on a cricket pitch! xx
Duke, your handcrafted wooden devices are elegant collectables! I watched your technique closely, and you averaged anywhere between 10 and 24 strokes at each location. There's no denying the effectiveness of your Worm Gitter! Thanks a million for showing us!
+Juanelo1946 Hi Juanelo! Yes when the worms come up they will stay up longer if you continue to rattle. When the worms warm up I have seen them shoot out of their holes and fall over! I thank you for watching and commenting and tell Ms Lulu Hi from all of us! You have inspired Josie and she LOVES to cook and fish!
Hi Duke! Great video! Bought my Worm Gitter from you this past winter! Have used your Gitter several times with great success. I put the worm I get in my raised beds and my vegetables just goes crazy over the castings they make!
+Dan Kelsey I remember our conversation! The worms will stay in the bed if you keep composted leaves on the top or anything else they can use for food. Good hearing from you Dan and thanks!
Duke, you want to treat them worms to a treat, take a flat soda like a store brand mountain dew or if you find them on sale; mix them with water and spray them on your worm bed. They love that sugar and carbohydrates! You can put them in ice trays undiluted and a scatter them in the bed too.
excellent video Duke...I can't wait until I can get out and use mine...The snow should be gone in the next month I hope...Lots of nice little worms all around where you were...Take care, Gonzo...
awesome share!, noticed when we were working on the arbor and hammering on the wood to build it it was calling the worms up in the bed ...made us think of you :) thumbs up! glad to hear sales been good
I've dug and dug and just get a few worms to fish with...but still having to go buy worms to have enough! I gotta get me one-a-dees!!! Give that man a Cee-Gar!!! Congrats...my young friend! Where can i buy one of those Worm Gitters? Thanks for making the video and for inventing the worm aggitator/caller.
LOL I'm so tickled to see this. I have my Worm Gitter right here waiting on a bit more warm weather, and I will out and "Calling" on them before you know it. We had 80 degree days, and then it SNOWED!!! warm again, and it's freezing again!!! I'm in Southern Maryland and it never snows in April here. We do have cold days, but by now it's usually a steady warm but rainy time. Not in the last several yeas though, and It makes me crazy. I sure don't want to drown them, so I will wait a few more weeks. Thank you for the demonstration, I needed the reminder. Bless, Sheila
WORM GITTER Well, it SNOWED this morning and it's all gone and back to 47 degrees.!!! LOL poor worms have no idea if they should dig deeper, or start tunneling! LOL Bless, Sheila
I might have to buy one of these...pretty cool. Normally, I wait until it rains all day and night and my buddy and I start driving the back roads out where I live. On a good night we can get a ton of worms and some nice sized frogs.
yea you got a good method...this works in the day so there is a lil advantage...cut some notches in a limb and see if you can get some up...thats how we use to do it ...the design of the Worm Gitter gets them up better than anything we use to use...
I'm doing good Carvin...I thought you knew I have been posting on the Rough Cut Homestead channel...Merry Christmas! ua-cam.com/channels/2x_9320-h01gG33OAKGwQw.html?view_as=subscriber
That is so exciting!!!!! I saw a dried up worm on my sidewalk the other day and then it turned really cold again. I am so anxious to try it again. :-) Congratulations on your sales! Thats awesome :-)
Very interesting! I just might have to get one for my kids, they would think that's cool! I'm wanting to eventually start a worm bin, but got a lot of research to do before I actually try it. Subbed to your channel, looking forward to learning more about worms. :)
+Humble Little Homestead Good to meet you and Thanks for commenting! We use compost bins and let the worms come and go naturally. They will stay if kept moist through the summer months. Check out worm gitters composter video if you would like and Thanks for subbing!
+The Last Grownup in the Woods If you want to keep it natural you can use tree limbs and cut notches in one of them. You don't have to penetrate the ground, disturbing the soil. We cut notches in gitters with pocket knives when I was young. The only advantage my Worm Gitter has is that it brings up about 10 times more. Thanks for watching and commenting!
+MyHomesteadingProject You can click at the top right on any of my videos and it will take you to the website. Its hard to find worms where you live? Thanks Tina
Yes. The ground here is rocky and dry. Once I started mulching my garden they started showing up there though. I'm thinking that if I headed up to the mountains or maybe down by the river I could find some with your amazing little stick! :)
They will show up in your garden and compost naturally if they have water and food. They can die off from the heat but they will have left the eggs behind. Bringing natural worms in just speeds up the decomposition process and turns your compost into good "fast food" for your plants.(castings) You don't need worm towers and boxes. Natural worms process a lot more than the red wigglers.
