    Todays Rottweiler is the descendant from the dogs used by the Romans to drive the livestock that fed the army as it moved through Europe. The Roman dogs were bred with local dogs, in the town of Rottweil, the result were dogs used by butchers to drive cattle to market. On the way home, the dogs served as protection, guarding the butcher and his money. If you're considering a rottwieler as your next pet here are five things you should know.
    Rottweilers, create strong bonds, they are happiest when they are with their families. Leaving your Rottie alone for long periods of time or not giving your dog adequate exercise, they may become destructive. Look for a reputable breeder who tests her breeding dogs to make sure they're free of genetic diseases and that they have sound temperaments.
    Rotties put on weight easily and need at least a couple of 30-minute walks daily. In addition, mental stimulation in the form of obedience training and problem solving games, to keep their bodies and minds in shape. Rotties are at their best when they have work to do, great jobs for the Rottweiler are protection work, carting, therapy dog work, or herding.
    When raised with children, a well-bred Rottweilers will get along fine. Just be sure to teach them what is acceptable behavior in the presence of children. Along with teaching your children what is acceptable in the presence of a powerful dog. The rottweiler's size can be an issue, they are so large that an innocent bump could easily knock a child over. You should always supervise your Rottie when he's around children.
    Do your best to ensure you get a healthy Rottie, never buy a puppy from an irresponsible breeder. Look for a reputable breeder who does testing on all their breeding dogs, ensure your pup is free of genetic diseases. If you can you should personally evaluate your puppy's parents, to ensure that they are physically healthy and have sound temperaments.
    Rottweilers are not a plug and play animal when it comes to being social with other animals, especially other dogs. Rottweilers can be aggressive toward unfamiliar dogs, especially dogs of the same sex. Be sure to carefully and thoughtful introduce new animals to your Rottie. With strong and consistent leadership, however, your Rottie should acquiess to your wishes and coexist peacefully with his new companion.

    I'd add one or two more things:
    Rotties are VERY strong
    They can be territorial, especially when it comes to 'their' places like your home or your car.
    They are adorable.

    I got book on Rotties, it said they were heavy hauling dogs, but didn't mention the cattle herding at all. I should feel lucky I suppose that my girl was the most loving friendly thing ever. She loved other dog she encountered and just wanted to play with them. Children, she would chase them with her butt and try get them to scratch her rear... yeah, she was weird =^.^=

    I've also read that one of the Original Rottweilers was owned by a banker who often had his dog accompany him to collect debts. knock knock, "Oh, I was just on my way to pay you, would you like some grain for your horse?!" "That's a Dog."

    1. Try to Import a adrk rottweiler
    2. If to expensive try to get from a breeder that importet both parents from adrk bloodlines3. Dont support breeding that goes for oversized Body & head, shorter muzzle is contraproductive also (most serbian bloodlines)4. Dont feed em to much (most important first 4 years) they need to be lean, and grow realy strange, so some will feed em so much that they look buff, your rottweiler will grow up to four years.5.. Most important, they are realy intelligent and sensitive dogs, they need to be around theyre family a lot, sure you can hold em to protect your property. But just dont keep em as chain dogs or something like that, they will become a threath even to theyre owners if you dont socialise em into family living. They can be stubborn as hell, but as long as you show them love and affection you will find a way that will work.

    • @nickf6146
      @nickf6146 6 років тому +7

      LoyaltyAboveAllLaws Spoken like a Rottweiler master! Serbian lines are awful (shorter muzzle reduces breathing) and reduces dogs ability to regulate body temperature as they use the muzzle to disperse heat. They also are a bit emotionally sensitive and not the dog you scream, hit, or mistreat.
      I got mine from a registered breeder in Canada, I live here. He’s 20 months, only 100 pounds (keep them lean) and is in the last level of personal protection training, will be certified in 1 month...my first Rott, have a German shepherd to, both great dogs unfortunately both breeds commonly destroyed by money hungry breeders who go for SIZE and weird body shapes (Serbian Rottweiler nose & German shepherd slopped back) instead of temperament & working ability.

    • @ult7511
      @ult7511 6 років тому +1

      Wow nice of knowing that, i really want a pure bred Rottweiler, didn't know that some breeders breed a Serbian line which is awful in the long run. Can I ask if Rottie can live in a humid country? coz my country is 28°C/82°F which is hot i think

    • @LoyaltyAboveAllLaws
      @LoyaltyAboveAllLaws 6 років тому +2

      Allan Reyes Sure u can, 28°c is okay, id say around 30-35+ they slow down because of the heat. But as long as they got enough water and a shady place to cool down,they will be okay. In Germany our Summers can reach up to 35-40°c on a few days. Our Average Summer Day around 20.

    • @fakebrake
      @fakebrake 6 років тому +2

      In the end...just get a well bred dog if you choose a rottweiler. My first was a monster in size but was also a bit insecure! He was dangerous and it took a while to correct. Our current rott is a wonderful service dog and guard dog. Her name is raven and yes she is of Serbian descent. A good dog is a good dog.

    Great video! Rottweilers are one of my favourite breeds.I am quite experienced with dogs but my wife has never had a dog. Is there a powerful companion type dog that would do well with a single novice and experienced owner?
    We are looking for a companion and not a working breed, although I would consider therapy work depending on the individual dog

      Casey Saibo there are other breeds that like running more than Rottweilers. Being gone for 8 hrs is an issue, can you get someone else to walk the dog during the day or take a long lunchbreak and do it yourself?

      Ive had both and I can tell you from experience that unless you are willing to dedicate an immense amount of time to firstly research and secondly train and raise your dog from the ground up, these breeds are not suitable for a first time dog owner. Having said that-when I was 20 I rescued a Am staff terrier and while it was challenging it was extremely rewarding. Early socialization is EVERYTHING. Do lots of homework before making this big decision. Best of luck.
