Very nice, oh btw I have 2 matched balloon shaped 866 tubes from Taylor😁
I'm right now building a SE amp with the Telefunken RS291.
The dif. Color of that mercury rectifier is due to the fact that it is old, or was used the wrong way for some time. Indeed these tubes need a minium of 120 seconds of pre heating, before the B+ is enabled
Smaller mercury tubes like the RCA 83 or the Philipd AX50 need atleased 45 seconds. The first Cap. In the powersupply needs to be lower that 15uF.
    Have fun, take care👍

its nice tube try him g2 anode (ok nly 1,3 w output but:))))
its best tube ever in that configuration.
other wise like RS 237 almost

Thanks. Thought it was that one tube powered another but I had only just discovered tubes when I made my comment. Now I realize those tubes don't power one another, but both run seperate and power another set of tubes or something. AC to DC. I'm still trying to figure this stuff out

I am thinking of building a 100TH SE amp. I saw the designs from Hirokuni Michimori which uses the so called Regulator tube design. I want to keep all tungsten filament tubes. At 650 to 700 volt B+ and 110ma current 100th can be biased at +35v resulting 20+ ma grid current. This allows us to use an inverted interstage transformer. I was thinking having a safe loftin white front end with 841 and 801 tube. 841 at 300V plate and 5 ma current CCS loaded from the cathode of 801. 801 is interstage transformer loaded to the grid of 100th. 801 can run at 30ma. 801 B+ is at 650v to 700v and cathode at 320v with a resistor to ground. You can use ultrapath or straight bypass to ground. With the inverted interstage, I have only 10ma of unbalanced current. A common 5k single ended output transformer such as James, Hammond or Edcore can be used with 16 ohms as cathode feedback. Each tube can have its own ccs filament supply with a switch to change polarity every month. If I am going for cathode follower, Ill use HY69 tube with choke or CCS at the cathode. HY69 is a tungsten filament directly heated 807. Looks and sounds cool. Let me know what everyone thinks. I need all the advice I can use.

Isn't it necessary to preheat the ion rectifiers for several minutes before turning on the anode voltage? I'm really curious about that. Some sources say it is, some (like this video) demonstrate it isn't.
That's a nice amplifier, I really like it!

It's very beautiful amp. Is there any difference in sound between mercury rectifier and standard tube rectifier?

l have a question if you don't mind. I am guessing you used the James Audio transformer JS-6123HS in your amplifier? I ordered two JS_6228HS (8K primary) that should come in tomorrow. I will probably use these transformers with PP EL34's. I am also thinking of building some SE amplifiers using (different) James Audio transformers and the Svetlana SV572-160. I am just curious of how you like the James transformers and how you like your SE amplifer in general and do you overall prefer SE to PP amplifiers - from your own personal experience? . I also have found that Hammond makes a really nice line of SE transformers up to 75 watts (10K primary) - Your amplifier is beautiful.

Is this amp still for sale? Or do you have the schematics?

Do you have any problems with the amp picking up RF noise from these rectifiers?

Not being familiar with the 100TH tube... and having seen a few of the videos of them... I'm assuming the glow is normal. A 6L6, or similar would be considered RED-Plating... the 100TH was originally geared at HAM radio was it not?

that is because the 100TH tube has a Thoriated Tungsten filament (like most broadcast tubes do) and shines much brighter and hotter than oxide-coated filaments of non-directly heated tubes like the 6L6 or KT88 or directly heated(but still oxide coated) ones like the 300B or 2A3.
      so normal colors are
oxide coated= warm orangey-red(bias drifting= plates becoming red too.... ie. imminent tube death after a short while)
thoriated tungsten =bright yellow between the plates like the 845 or 211 but in case of Eimac tubes like this one usually the plates change color too(bias drifting = the whole thing lighting up white until the filament breaks and balls up)
