When they closed the sanitariums and hospitals and threw the patients onto the streets back in the 80's, this was a recipe for disaster. And we still dealing with the repercussions 40 plus years later!

The difference is that he was never diagnosed even though he showed signs early. The adults around him put his behavior down to him being a bad kid. The abrupt change in him at 10 should have been a clue. He had no idea what was going on, yet he tried to control it, even stabbing himself in the chest.

He was one of the first on both scenes(murder scene and when he was found) , and he was the one to put a bulletproof vest and head covering on this man and escorted him to and from court, in order to make sure he wasn't shot or attacked by anyone in the crowd. When he was found, he was sitting with a Bible, repeating scripture. Also, he had already plucked out the first eye when he was found, and he had swallowed it. As a mother of a son who hears voices. My son heard them as a child unknown to me. He thought it was normal apparently. Now as a adult he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and has to be put on meds. He's gotten worse and it's been traumatic for the entire family and hell for my son. Sadly we couldn't get much help for him either since he hasn't any health insurance. Believe me when I say I have tried many mental health organizations. He hardly admits he has a problem nor is he a danger to himself as the "doctors" say. Even the police say the same. I pray my son never gets dangerous enough to do harm to himself or others. My heart breaks to see him go thru this. However he is holding down a job and is married so maybe there's hope yet. Such a sad story of this mother and her 2 children. Such a horrific story. RIP.

She had a pkg delivered and I saw her at the mailbox and told her about her pkg. Every since then until she moved, she'll yell, "I can't stand white people. That white B better be glad she stays in the house all the time. I don't care if she burns up. I'm going to get her kicked out." I just ignored her bc clearly she had problems and I sure as heck don't want to make things worse by saying anything back to her. This story just teared me up. With respect to his mom, she should have kept taking him to a doctor or somewhere until she found someone who could have helped him when he was little. It seemed as though she gave up on him to quickly. Maybe there was at least a slender of a chance that he could have been helped.

I dont know about in the U.S, but here in the U.K. there is not enough help for people with mental health issues, they've even shut down most of the semi-secure homes?
I work in the prison service and the courts send these people to us when regular prison isn't the place for them. It then takes months of assessments to get them sectioned and transferred to secure hospitals. Before then they have self harmed, mutilated themselves or committed sui*ide. This doesn't condone what he did, but illness like his makes it so difficult to live safely for himself and others around him.

I was just thinking about what you've articulated. Andre started hearing voices and he was not on any psychoactive drugs. Additionally, he was young when the voices he heard were very distinct. If it were some kind of psychopathology, how does this affect his neurological functioning? Professionals in the psychiatric industry must address the very real issue of spiritual and mental problems. You cannot solve a spiritual problem with medication.
