    I'm surprised it took scientists this long to figure out how smart babies are. If you observe a baby, you can see them reasoning and reacting intelligently. They look at everything around them and think about it. I work in a department store and see many babies as their parents shop. I usually smile and wave at them and they always see me and react because they are always curious about everything around them in an environment with so many new things to see. Babies are basically learning machines. What else have they got to do with their time but observe the world around them and think and learn about it?

    • @fahadAKAme
      @fahadAKAme 8 років тому +2

      +JenDeyan we can't depend on passing observation's we need a structured way to know thing so we can role out bias and other factors. also, you are experiencing hindsight bias. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindsight_bias.

      +JenDeyan Everyone can see how smart babies are. The hard thing is to draw experiments and conclusions to test these traits.

    • @JenDeyan
      @JenDeyan 8 років тому +1

      I should have been more specific. I'm surprised it took scientists this long to think to run these kinds of tests to confirm what simple observation seems to bear out. The video did say that scientist believed babies weren't capable of such intelligent reasoning. If you just pay attention to them, you can see babies' reasoning capabilities easily.

      In this case, I'm not experiencing Hindsight Bias as I've believed for many years that babies are highly intelligent. I've had conversations with others about it in the past so they can confirm that my memories are not distorted. I guess what seemed obvious to me was not to others. I have helped raise many nieces and nephews so I have a lot of experience with babies.

    I knew babies were smarter than we thought, mainly because I can remember when I was 2 years old and my parents would always warm me of things that were obvious. Like they didn't want me to play in the street even though I knew cars drive on the street and I could hear every time a car would come so I knew to move. But since I was 2 they didn't trust me. Also they told me not to touch things that were hot. I would silently think "no shit". I was so observant but people think little kids are absolutely clueless

    I'm sorry, but you only have to be an observant parent to realise that your baby is actually very aware and are very smart. I saw this in both my daughters... people thought I was mad when I told them they understand more than they think... >_>; My daughters have always been so empathetic as well... My daughters would always rub my arm when I felt low... or held my face. Since about 6 months old in both I was able to see how they would concentrate like this... We are all told certain things and as a collective species believe in what we're told. Sometimes we should think harder for ourselves!! So on this occasion Dnews... Thank you for confirming something I was already aware of. ;D

      Dude, you don't even have to be a parent. A babysitter knows this. Lol this study was a joke man, parents, babysitters, & older sibling all knew this about babies.

    • @Shimoaoi1988
      @Shimoaoi1988 8 років тому +1

      +Commander Waddles Well just saying as a parent you get to spend a considerable amount of time with your children. So as a parent you get to "study" your children more carefully. But so many only believe their babies are unaware... when they're really not. Like it's hard to believe they are trying to grasp the things around them so early.

    I remember one time when someone let me hold their kid. He wrapped arms around my neck and I felt this strange sensation of both sickness and longing and it was a powerful sense that lingered long after we all went our separate ways. Feeling discomfort I shook off the sense, the next time I saw the kid he hid from me. I had rejected his bonding....

    I'm really surprised that the final "Theory of Mind" experiment wasn't common knowledge.
    Our baby, since he was one year old, knows that we like some things better than he does, so he frequently shoves food he doesn't like into our mouths, expecting us to eat it because we imitated eating and liking it to motivate him.

    • @awesomeguy9573

      +Totally Not A Duck a lobotomy was a popular (I think) 'medical' procedure that involved shoving a sharp stick like an ice pick through the eye and into the brain. it was used to 'treat' several types of diseases that usually caused mental health problems which very stupidly blamed on the existing diseases

    • @lesROKnoobz
      @lesROKnoobz 8 років тому

      ***** They basically cut out a part of your brain that is believed to be causing you mental problem. From what I know, it seems they would just cut out the part of the brain that dealt with emotions. When people came out after the procedure, they didn't have much emotions and weren't the same person they were before the procedure. Basically kills their personality and leaves them in a blank, emotionless state.

    Theory of mind has much more to it than making an association with positive or negative feedback. Also. If you find and watch the video of the first experiment mentioned here, the one with the dolls, you'll see at points the children were almost persuaded into choice. The experiment happened a while ago and was found to have too many holes in the theory and way to many variables unaccounted for. The social dynamic presented by the puppets was too complex. It was beyond imagery, scent, taste, touch, tones, or pain and pleasure. All of which make up an infants first cognitive thoughts. Most of the claims from the study were completely unsubstantiated. While children are sponges and do make many associations, theory of mind relies more on a symbiosis of subconscious and conscious cognition and prior knowledge of the context. Context is very important and it's why adults sometimes don't understand different situations and their dynamics. Especially when we look across different cultural boundaries. Myth: Busted...

    Yeah i don't have kids, but i do think some babies are way smarter then most. I don't know why it would be like that though form some.... maybe... and why it would not be transparent and open knowledge though... something is "sketchy" probably with some... Might be the wrong word... Some might just understand way more then, most maybe. Probably. Would be possible. Probably is. Just some philosophy that i have...

    I’ve been saying babies were smarter than adults for years.
    But that’s probably on the adults.
    Lol, “and a tail”
    Designer babies is a stupid idea; adults are stupid. It’l be like when they brought rabbits to Australia and messed up the ecosystem. People consistently make the same mistake; implementing things they want over things that are good for them.
