Everything you know not to do with kick and bass: I do it. When I say "we are musicians, sound is our instrument" that means we don't approach a mix as a collection of sounds, we hear it as a song and bring out what the song is doing through the use of sound.

Great!
Really nice!
I used to produce beats on my MPC60 in later '80 and I remember that there was a way to address the pad velocity to the sample triggering start point. So, more brutal hits produce earlier start points giving more and more attack to the very transient, and softer hits produce "delayed" start points losing the transient more and more.
This feature allowed me to mimic the beater and bass drum sound and physics a little better at that time...
Cool! I love those old samplers. One day I'll buy a few.
Internet is great, a lot of information, but if you don't know how to filter that information it will work against you. Great video Matthew!
ABSOLUTELY!
the reverb kick thing reminds me of simulating a room mic for a kit where you get a body like room feel from just the kick alone. Nice tips!
Spot on!
This man is a fucking musical surgeon. Im learning mixing making sample based music and I think I will stick with this man. Thanks for the insights.
Thank you Self-Law!
I love these instructions! Thanks!!!
Thanks Vance!
you are the best in this business more than many super famous engineers. a hug from italy
Thank you Cristian!
And the track came out sick u say!! 😂😂😆😆😄😄. Music is bigger than the individual. Music is life..always explore different ideas within the musical arena. 👍🏿
Yessir! Thanks Kevon!
@@WeissAdvice awesome. 👌🏿
great one, by the way the pencil on the ear giving impression of a real, serious and knowledgeable mix engineer i am liking it. keep the tutorials coming!
LOL - that was an accident. I was making notes before recording the video. Thanks Gagan!
@@WeissAdvice 🙌
@@WeissAdvice also thanks for breaking the myth which i was also unsure to reverb the kick n bass✌️
Another brilliant video
Thanks Jeff!
Love your creative! No rule for mix! Yeah
Thank you!
This is such good advice Matt, and explained really well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Breaking the "rules" is sometimes exactly what is needed to make music shine. Huge respect to you.
Thanks Dave! I'm not convinced some of these "rules" were ever rules to begin with tbh.
awesome video. learning to break the "rules" is definitely helping me grow as an engineer.
It's also more fun too LOL. Thanks Red!
i fokin love this mix matt..crystal clear, the low end on this makes me to work more lol
GREAT! Thee BEST response I can ever get to one of my videos is that it inspires you to get better and/or try new things. The only thing I can give you is an idea - it's not a skill until you do it yourself!
love how you put things in context. best mix content I've seen so far! keep up the great work !
Context is everything! Thanks Bobby!
Gold! 💯
Thanks NoQualms!
I have been trying to get this type of low end for a while since i saw this video but i am not making any headway i am facing challenges of tweaking the reverb, i don't know which reverb plugin to use, and i don't knw if i should use be reverb on the insert or as a send........i will be really glad to learn this technique
There isn't exactly a "should" which is really the point of this video. The important idea is what you're trying to do, because there's probably a number of ways to get there. For me, I like a short, open, and fairly tonally neutral reverb for the kick and the Relab is very easy for getting that. But you can really work any reverb into this if you're careful about your settings.
This is why I love ya
Thanks Willy!
This video is amazing Matt I will definitely implement these great techniques! Thank you for sharing your mixing wisdom!
Thanks for watching!
Hey Matt, your video has summed up why I have you as one of my biggest inspirations as a mixing engineer. I’ve tagged you via my Instagram, hopefully you’ll like the post.
Thanks, I just saw the tag! I appreciate it!
Please sir, I really want to appreciate you for all the knowledge you giving out ...pls can you do a tutorial on your settings for kick with relab lx480 pls sir
Sure. Shouldn't be tough.
I believe one of my presets that comes with the LX480L is for kick drum.
Good day, Matt. Will you be making Playlists for philosophy fridays and your other series?
Just made! Thanks Tzu!
Love Your Videos! Great Tips nobody's givin!
I try to stand out, lol. Thanks Dee!
Hey mate great channel! What’s on your 808 chain in this instance? Thanks and huge shout outs from Melbourne Australia!
Aside from the splitter it's basic EQ and compression on this one. The 808 already had a really distinct texture, so no need to reinvent the wheel.
Thanks Matt!
The man himself!
Beautiful work Matthew. Thanks for doing this.
Thanks for tuning in Jamie!
Would you use this technique with real drums and bass guitar or just 808 style kick and bass?
Some of these techniques for sure. We put reverb on live kicks all the time - that's what overheads and room mics are doing. Chorusing bass guitar - sure, from time to time. Sidechaining I don't do as much because it tends to disrupt the rhythm of the bass on live guitar.
Nothing is off the table - but I don't advise doing things for the sake of doing things either.
Please weiss can you do an indepth tutorial more on how to setup lx480 reverb for different purposes especially on kick drum... Plesee
I can. Honestly, the most important thing is just controlling the amount of sub you're letting ring out. EQ out the excess lows.
Brilliant as always ! thanks Matthew.
Thanks Leo!
Omg! Thease are milion doller tips ❤️
More like hundred thousand - working on millions :)
u been putting out video after video what was the difference when u was at pro files cause u wasnt putting out alot of content like now
The difference is that I'm working for myself on my own terms.
i like to have the stereo 808 on a send and only have the sides so it completely disappears when in mono leaving the dry 808 strong
Solid approach!
I think the biggest lesson here is experimenting and discovering for yourself is the best a way to craft your own sound. Conventional wisdom cannot take you there
Exactly
🔥💎🔥
Thanks Tim!
Damn you're Matt.
And you're Russ! Lol - thanks man!

I prefer to be present in the video as much as possible.
@@WeissAdvice then maybe keep it pretty small.
Music is ART so they should not be do and don't ... Would you have told Picasso that most of is portrait were morphologically incorrect . thanks Matthew
Or at least we should be getting the Dos and Don'ts fairly correct LOL
🤓🫶🏾🌸
Thanks Alejandro!
