Super informative tutorial Matt! I'm sure almost everyone that's interested in engineering has heard the "low cut everything but the kick and bass" advice and that's exactly what I was doing for the longest time. This video will help break that. Thank You so much! Yours is probably one of the most interesting channels for engineering on UA-cam, would love to see more!
the two biggest changes I heard on my speakers here was firstly, when you dealt with that sub bass drone flubbiness at around 34hz...instant betterizer! And the second was when you widened the stabs, moving them out to the sides away from the locked low end in the middle...that one was the most apparent of all for me and actually made me like the entire song more!
Just something that made me smile when you used the Rcomp - the GUI - no update plan for Matthew! I was thinking this morning that I would do a screen shot of my Rcomp GUI and post in FB to show that, I too, have not updated any plugins from that particular company since buying the original version. Rcomp is my goto for sidechain ducking. I didn't bother though as none of my FB friends would understand the 'joke'. Thanks again for another fine video.
Amzing Tutorial as always...Please what do you thing of Izotopes Tonal Balance? is it a Relaible tool for figuring Low end especially if your Monitoring isnt fantastic
great job as always. I love how much value you get out of transient designers and expanders. quite a few of your techniques with them have made their way into my mixes. have you heard 'out of sight' by RTJ? The hard panned bass completely shocked me the first time I heard it but it fits the song absolutely perfectly considering how dense the rest of the arrangement is and how important that bass part is. I think there's an elliptical filter around 60Hz but it's still just such a wild decision.
I haven't heard "Out Of Sight" but I'll check it out. I do use transient designers and expanders quite a bit, for all sorts of stuff. Just part of my style I guess.
Hello Matthew! What monitors do you have? How low can they go? I ask because I don't always hear the changes. I have 5.5 inch speakers and they don't go below 50Hz. Thank you
question when do we say enough plugins! is it necessary to keep buying ssl channel strip plugins from different plugin manufacturers.are they all the same? when is enough plugins having enough to stop buying
I would say we just need to change our focus. Everyone is super up on plugins because subconsciously we're looking for solutions that we don't have to work for. Much easier to buy a magic EQ then it is to get good at using one. Instead of stacking plugins, we need to aim to stack our reels, stack our techniques, and stack our clients!
@@WeissAdvice I lot of folks don't know that Marvin Gaye was also a drummer in the early days of Motown as was Teddy Pendergrass. Talk about drummers who can REALLY sing...

I'm restructuring right now so I can get more content out. Been a complex week but there will certainly be more videos on the way.

Right on. That's not a small detail if it improves the entirety of the song.

No, I can't with the Waves update nonsense. That company always does too much.
Fantastic! Thanks :)
Thanks for tuning in!
Great tuto and great t shirt looks like Basquiat;s picture!
Thanks Dwayne! Yea, it was only like $15 too.

Thanks Engenius!
Awesome Video Weiss! Appreciate the help!
I appreciate you checkin' the channel! Thanks Mackie!
Always insightful! Love the idea of exaggerating the sub frequencies of the 808 and then lowering the output to make room for the kick.
surprisingly effective
thanks, this was really helpful, clear & concise. i feel like i learned several new approaches that will pay nice dividends
Right on! Thanks Magnetic!
JAMES MTUME.. who i knew persnally, made the drum loop
One of the greatest.
I was hoping for some funky Moog fart bass, but at least the break was juicy! 🤣
Not sure I ever mixed a Moog fart before LOL
What monitors are You using?

I have not found any of iZotopes automated mixing tools to be reliable. Great signal processing when you make your own decisions though!

I use PMC tb2s+ s, but I also had a serious acoustician help with my room. Same guy who did Jaycen Joshua's room actually.
Are you talking about Diddy redoing the song for Notorious B.I.G. or the original Mtume track "Juicy Fruit"?😉

Nice beat actually…that chord is a bit to loud, up front…but bass leads mellody but it is hidden a bit.
That's Mtume, but now I'm just showing my age. lol
Showing your age... or showing your taste.
Just typing something to help the algorithm ❤️
Aw man, thank you. Being sick for a month has wrecked my standing with The Almighty Algorithm... yeesh.

3:51 Marvin Gay
Mtume’ s song, “Juicy Fruit”… It’s a very distinctive drum groove and was certainly a hit jam in da hood !!!
Giving this one credit though because: Mtume was Marvin Gaye's percussionist.
