ISS Vanguard is a 1-4 player co-operative, campaign Board Game. It will bring players right into epic Sci-Fi adventure, as they will play as 4 sections (security, recon, science, engineering) onboard the first human ship with the possibility to reach outer space. Campaign will introduce the unique story written by Krzysztof Piskorski (Tainted Grail) full of hard player choices, twists and branching storylines. The game will come with over 100 different Crew members, each with unique characteristics.
Gameplay is divided into 2 main stages: Ship phase and landing on planets.
During the Ship phase, players will manage their ship (binder with printed sleeves), where every section will have to make gameplay decisions. Then, you will prepare your crew for landing on the next planet, in search of answers to humanity's biggest questions. Together you will pick lander and customize it with modules, then each section will choose a crew member to take on a mission ( more experienced crew members will have better ranks ), deck-build skills deck, take equipment and choose dices for his character.
During all phases of the games players will be directed to Log-book, consisting story encounters, often written in the form of action-packed dialogues between the characters.

I like this sort of hard-ish sci-fi. "We only have three weeks to get out of the way!"
It really sells how big space is, compared to something like Star Trek where they behave more like old fighter planes getting into a dogfight.

Correction (I think) 1:46:22 “but he has not spent dice”: you do not use spent dice for a dice check because you use available dice and roll them

You are correct that you use available dice for a dice check… however, what I was meaning was that he had no spent dice, and both of the card effects would have allowed him to refresh dice from his spent pool. So there was no point in using the for their dice combinations.

1:00:50 - Well done for remembering to roll the danger die! You did not the first time. But to clarify, when you reroll a die using a card, that does not permit or require you to also reroll the danger die, except if the card specifically says to reroll the danger die. Of course, here it worked out since you hadn't actually rolled it yet.
1:01:28 - Amir has already done two actions! He rested first, then did the special action. So here you gave him a third action for his turn.
1:10:27 - As a just-in-case for you and other viewers to know, I believe there was more text to read if you scroll down. From what I have seen from other playthrough videos, the app does not make it easy to see if you are supposed to scroll down to read more text, so I recommend always doing a quick swipe to check.
1:49:27 - The dice check has the blue and green die being spent first for the accident path, before you can spend them on the success path, so you would be forced to spend a blue/green pair on the accident path, before you can resolve any successes.
1:53:43 - When a player is forced to spend a die and cannot, they then are forced to sacrifice a die, which means to entirely remove that die from their dicepool to their section compartment until the end of the mission. This means that Cho would only have four dice in her pool for the rest of the mission. I will say as a help, that if you are ever forced to sacrifice a die because you had no die to spend, it is almost always best to do the exhaust action first (where you sacrifice a die to refresh 5 dice), and then spend one of the die you just refreshed. You still sacrifice only one die, but you get a free refresh of your dice along the way.
Overall, well done! You have done some of the best and simplest editing I have ever seen to highlight key information in a clean and effective manner, and it looks like you used your phone to do all the close up videos! What a simple and beautiful method. Good luck with your future campaigns with your mother, don't worry too much about mistakes, and have fun! Maybe read the rulebook after every few missions to see what you got right and what you got wrong, and use that to adjust your play until you find when you read it, that you did it all. Good luck!

Just working through the tutorial and checking as my understanding would be to roll the Danger die also @1:20:00 ish.
To me looks like you roll the danger die to move from 4 to 3 but the card on 3 seems to be telling us to roll the danger die again to perform the special action also?

Hi there. I'm about 16 minutes into your video and I've noticed that you did not play Log 1 starting the mission. You did log into the app and started the turorial/campaign, but I think you mistook Log 0 for Log 1. It seems to be a very common thing missed by many playthrough videos.
Don't let that deter you though, your video is quite entertaining and I'm excited to watch as I wait for my copy to arrive during Wave 2.

I have no idea how I missed that… most strange.
It might have something to do with how the app works, as you will notice later in the video it automatically skips to the next log number depending on the choices you make.
Perhaps it auto jumps to Log 1 after Log 0….

We’ve played 27+ hours so far and I feel like we’ve just scratched the surface of what this game has to offer.
@ThatBoardGameShow You did say you were going to listen to Log 1. it's most likely that you were so involved with introducing the beginning elements of the game that when you opened the app for the first time and heard Log 0, you made the assumption that it was Log 1.
It really doesn't affect the video at all, nor the gameplay. Just a minor critique I have noticed with this and many other tutorial videos of Vanguard.
I start doubting about what I wrote “1:49:40 you should have used first a green + blue to advance the red track. That leaves you with one blue less”
Does this really leave you with one blue less??? Or can these dies still be used after the first step for their symbol value?
Nope. You had it right the first time.
Once they’re spent they go directly into the spent pool and are unavailable for further uses.
The smart move in this case would have been to make sure not to roll a set of blue and green, thus eliminating the possibility of that effect triggering.
Maybe not galaxy sized - 200AU sounds more like a relatively small star system.
At 1:01:00 would you not still have to resolve the red outcome? Because none of the dice in your roll pool could fulfil the green condition you move to the next row and resolve it?

1:00:54 how did you know you have to reroll the danger die? Did the card tell you to or is that a rule? If it’s a rule, I may have missed it
Also, when you fail to mark the success outcome on a special action, aren’t you supposed to then by default mark the fail option? My understanding was that some outcome always gets marked when doing a special action (unless it has a track)
Oops.. that was just a verbal fumble.
I was meant to roll the danger die when I first rolled my action dice, because there is the danger die symbol on the action I was taking.
So I should have said "I need to ROLL the danger die" not "Re-Roll the danger die"
My brain was clearly in 're-roll' mode... sorry for the confusion.

I really wish they had made the rulebook smaller to make it easier to read as you play, the game is far too sprawling

I always have a side table next to me when we’re playing these bigger games to offload the rule book and unused components onto.
Yes, the rulebook smaller and the planet book bigger to fit the minis better and see the background art more IMHO.
Watched your setup video and just started this one. Did you read thru the rule book all the way thru before playing or does the tutorial really teach it as you go?
It really does teach it exactly as shown in the video. It’s a fantastic tutorial.
I did play through it once before filming, but did my best to present it as you would experience it playing for the first time.
