C13. 467k. Just got it in Feb. Running excellent. Last oil change was in 8/2022. I changed it in 5/23. Don't know how many miles they ran it. Just got results back and have 43ppm aluminum. Average is 3. It doesn't burn oil or leak from what we can tell. Changed it 1500 miles ago and still dead on full. Any ideas?

Hey great videos!! I have a C13 KCB in my rv at 525hp. While most fellow RV'er are recording around 7mpg average, I am calculating 4.2mpg. Any idea what could be causing the terrible fuel consumption? Rv is definitely not over weight, tire pressure between 105-110psi and usually keep speed between 55-65 mph. Wonder if any sensor reading could be off and causing fuel consumption. No smoke from the exhaust either. Thanks for your input and all your work you put into sharing knowledge in the videos.

Does anyone have information that one should know about the C11 engine with 380 horse before getting a truck with it? Problems and the good things about this engine. What to look for as warning signs or what not.
hey new to your channel a friend told me about your u-tube channel, i have an 06 C13 acert i have an issue with the cold weather anything below 55 degrees and the colder it is the worse it is .I'll just use 32 degrees as a example without truck plugged up to block heater it will start and rpms go to about 800 for a few minutes then down to around 550 rpms for a few minutes then back to normal idle . i let truck warm up at 850-900 rpms to about 150 degrees before i leave ,about 20 minutes warming up , i'm at 195 degrees before i get a about a mile down the road.. i will leave and it doesn't pull good at all and ,i can get up to about 65 mph on flat parts but hit a hill and it doesn't pull good at all for about 6-8 miles then the check engine light comes on and stays on for about 8-10 miles then check engine light goes out and truck will run normal the rest of the day. they have tried to get codes but none are showing up . i've been told its a sensor ???? with the truck plugged up its fine but cant always plug it up. what are your thoughts any help is greatly appreciated. i try to do all the work i can on it but this is more than i know.
A quick question about overheating the engines your mentioned in the video; they all have coolant temp sensors connected to the ECM - if an overheat occurs and the ECM detects it does it cut out the injectors to prevent overheating? Or will it just run itself into the ground? The drive belt once snapped on my diesel car (not cat powered) on the freeway and the temperature climbed without me noticing until the engine cut power to itself as the ECU detected high temp. This saved my engine, so I was wondering if a cat will do that.
+neardood1 So on some of the sensors like coolant temp or coolant level you can set them to either warning, derate, or shutdown. If its set to warning you'll just get a check engine light, if its set to shutdown then it'll shut down, this can be programmed in configuration.
Ahh ok. we use C16's and 3516's as gensets on ships and in addition to the cat sensors, international and class requirements mean that we have a completely separate set of sensors to monitor important things like oil pressure/temp, coolant temp, coolant level, speed ect. If they go beyond the set limits it will cause an alarm and if it gets worse a completely separate mini-ecm called a SDU (Shutdown unit) will do as its name says and send a Shutdown signal to the ecm.
Awesome Chanel man, lots of knowledge.. I got a question.. fixing to buy a dump truck 2005 with a c11 are this the same as c13..any different between the 2.. sorry for the dumb question I'm a novice
Replaced a exhaust manifold on a D6 dozer with an acert 6.6 . The Cat dealer said it's actually a Perkins engine. The manifold gaskets were stamped Perkins. Interesting.
Congratulations - over 7.1K subscribers now. We run two 120M and one 12M graders with those 6.6L "Perkipillar" engines (that's what the Peterson CAT mechanics call them), and it is imperative to change the oil by 250 hours (severe duty classification), otherwise they will drink oil. Found out the hard way that the fuel pump shaft is not keyed to its gear - press fit with a bolt/washer - not a bright idea.
Chad Jessup Having worked many years on “true” CAT engines from C7.2 all the way up to C175 I can tell you that the recommended oil change for CAT and Perkins branded engines is the same, it’ll change based on the usage and how hard you run your engine as a rule of thumb if you run engine hard every 250 hours, normal operation every 500 hours on some specific applications and with a deeper oil sump you can go up to 1000 hours but that’s only if you use CAT DEO oil and CAT Branded fuel and Oil filters. Now about Perkins engines not having same quality as “true” CAT engines, well that’s a myth, Perkins is a British company that CAT bought back in the 90s and it’s been Vertically integrated into Caterpillar and I can tell you that we are one family with smart engineers and technicians working endlessly to deliver the utmost quality.
I had my c13 fix with a new cam and cam followers and I also had the head rectified. Before I fix it my oil pressure was normally at 63 psi at 17 rpm. After all the repairs where done my oil pressure drop to around 59 psi at the same rpm. I lost like 4 psi after repair. Is that normal??
Very informative appreciate the info you are sharing. On my c-13I have a check engine light in these cold Chicagomorning and my boost pressure is reduced Eventually it goes out. I have already had Peterbilt replace the harnesses and the one actuator that was at issue 2 months ago but now the problem is back. Does this sound like exhaust actuators? Could the actuators fail from using Lucas? Any info is greatly appreciated.
+Rick Camp No such thing as exhaust actuators, unless you mean the Jake solenoids. Is it the same IVA solenoid causing the problem? It is possible the solenoid failed again which would be covered under warranty.
Adept Ape I would recommend highly to stick to CAT DEO oil and CAT branded filters, our oil is designed to meet our specifications, no other aftermarket brand has a better additive package, also at CAT we developed the current CK-4 specification of oil
Number 2 injector was showing misfire, removed the valve cover and found the injector rocker was broke off. are these pressed on the rocker shaft?? not to mention the jake brake threaded stud is extremely tight to loosen. c13 acert
Hey Josh, i have a KCB, and it doesnt have a jake switch, but wouldnt the jakes be built into the IVA housing or do they have a non jake IVA housing and a Jake IVA housing? Cant find any info on this. Hopefully i just need to wire it up but maybe not. Engine is shoehorned and havnt pulled the valve cover yet.
I have a c13 in a freightliner throwing a 55 code. But blows blue smoke and won't rev past 1300 rpm until 8th gear then it will take off running like normal. Any ideas I am stumped. Truck is equipped with eaton fuller lighting 10 speed as well.
Got a question if you don't mind. Where is the CGI temp sensor located at on a C13 LEE prefix. I've been looking and haven't been able to find it for sure.
I have a part number 2219386 block I am told is the same as the 2397359 C13 block however these do no interchange according to CAT. My engineering guys say the only difference is a weep hole on the front of the block. Can you confirm if these blocks are interchangeable.
My c13 engine exhaust manifold and turbo glowing in night time what is the probable causes, before we are not obsorved, after top overhauling we observed
Hi, I need to replace my C13 OKCB82016 engine on my automatic International 9200i SBA, what other c13 engine can I use if I don't find one with the same serial number ?
Hey buddy had a quick two questions pertaining to sensors. One I have a surge at idle. not all the time will it do this. hot or cold temp is not a factor could this be a valve actuator? Also Jake brakes seem to work really good sometimes others they are meh could this be a valve actuator? Also you can hear a difference in the Jake sounds too when they are working really. Whole reason it makes me think it's a actuator only because of the two things it's doing. Will it throw a code if the actuator is bad? The surge is very speratic no ryme or reason. Runs pretty well no smoke or anything like that. Sometimes runs smooth as can be changed fuel filters didn't help really.
came across your channel, so you have a new subscriber!! so need some advice here. I have a 2005 pete c13 acert, pushing 475hp twin turbo. I been really thinking of cutting out the twin turbo and all the emissions crap. love the truck and a huge part of me just wanna leave it as is. so guess my question is, is changing a twin turbo to single a good idea on a C13? also I was thinking of getting a bigger radiator core. I have a 5 core, think a biggier one is better? I had that issue you said about the over heat issues, but that's been all fixed now
+topkat366 My advice is you can't have a big enough radiator, go big on the radiator. As far as the twin turbo part, I have never seen a retrofit from a C13 to a single turbo, but it would make it a more reliable engine in my opinion. The twin turbo part doesn't really add much power, just builds boost faster (and hotter). The problem is if you need parts while you are on the road you'll have a hard time finding them on the aftermarket parts. If you had an old C12 it would be interesting to see if you could swap the exhaust manifold and turbo from the C12 to the C13 as they are very similar engines. It might be wiser to just save your money though and just repair it properly when you need to. It's a tough call on that.
Adept Ape thanks for the reply. on the radiator part I was thinking the same thing (go bigger). on the switching twin Turbo part I seen them switch on the C15. I will probably pass on the switching turbo parts, since I will be going for a overhaul this summer. so that will not work cause of warranty issues, but that is a good idea from the C12 to the C13. like you said, it's a tough call. again thanks for the reply back 👍
I have done many single turbo c13 iva deletes. You will run a c12 single turbo and a c12 or full tilt manifold. The engine is 17-1 compression so it will do fine without the ivas installed.
Hey man very informational videos, would help me please I had a cat c13 accert Am getting a severe vibration type growl between 40-45 50-55 mph weather speeding up, slowing down or using jake. Sounds like coming through floor but can't feel it with hand on shifter. Without driving it the local truck shop checked out driveline and said everything looked ok. It's a 10-speed and I believe does it in gear. No engine light come out injectors of the cylinders 5 and 6 has been change, injectors cables, fuel pump, u joint truck it’s alignment. The shaking getting worse when it’s loaded. Please anything idea what it can be please anything could be helpful to get my truck back to the road. Thank you
Sounds like bad ujoint in the drive line could be suspendtion doesnt have enough air pressure that will change driveline angle to change when loaded and cause a vibration
Hey Adept thanks for the reply, I'm not sure how to read the fault code on the C-13 is it the same as the video you have on there? Also since the turbo boost is down when the light is on I assume they're related but how would an intake actuator effect the boost? Is the power down in that Cyl? Is that the reason? I'm kind of new to this comment thing and I will donate since I'm getting gobs of info so I can tinker Just have to figure it out.
+Rick Camp If you have a cruise control switch, try getting the blink codes, but if you have a regen engine that won't work. When the engine sees certain engine codes it'll derate which limits the fuel which will reduce your boost.
I have a 2007 c13 kcb with a million miles on it , I love the power the truck runs good starts right away in cold and hot wheather .but smokes a lot of white/grey after a long period of idling , I replace the bottom turbo because had a crack and noticed that oil or fuel comes from the back cylinders .my question is could be injectors or just wear piston rings ?
Emerson Fontes white smoke is a consequence of extended idle time which is never good and could end up damaging your DPF filter and causing an exotherm event, also it causes slobber which could explain your “fuel” complains on rear cylinders, bear in mind that your only source of fuel inside the cylinder is from the injectors, worn rings will only allow more oil into combustion chamber
Hello I have a question, how does one pin a C13 engine? For example when trying to find top dead center for valve/injector adjustment. I noticed on the C13's unlike the C10's there is the hole for the turning tool on the passenger side and the hole to pin the flywheel on the driver's side.
+First Last Most C13 have the pin hole in the exhaust side with next to the turning tool hole. Usually the ones with the intake side hole have a rear PTO drive like a cement truck or something like that.
+Rigo Ruvalcaba For the fuel lines? I'm not sure as the head uses an oring boss style and the fitting coming out of that is a -8 JIC I believe. Sorry I don't know it off the top of my head.
Brandon Clausen barometric sensor only reads your atmosphere pressure in order to do that the sensor has to be exposed to ambient, in other words sensor is not located on your oil pan or engine block. A faulty barometric sensor can indeed cause you higher EGT readings because ECM maps are designed to inject specific amounts of fuel at a given air pressure
I have c 13. On my turbo it looks like a oil actuator or something like a waste gate not sure. The metal line broke off and need to kno where the or he end of line goes. Need help anyone
+Edgardo Guardado You should watch my IVA and VVA system video. That code indicates that the ECM isn't seeing proper oil pressure to the IVA sensor and the pressure isn't dropping when the IVA solenoid opens. It could be the purge solenoid, the IVA oil pressure sensor, or the oil supply to the IVA housing.

hey new to your channel a friend told me about your u-tube channel, i have an 06 C13 acert i have an issue with the cold weather anything below 55 degrees and the colder it is the worse it is .I'll just use 32 degrees as a example without truck plugged up to block heater it will start and rpms go to about 800 for a few minutes then down to around 550 rpms for a few minutes then back to normal idle . i let truck warm up at 850-900 rpms to about 150 degrees before i leave ,about 20 minutes warming up , i'm at 195 degrees before i get a about a mile down the road.. i will leave and it doesn't pull good at all and ,i can get up to about 65 mph on flat parts but hit a hill and it doesn't pull good at all for about 6-8 miles then the check engine light comes on and stays on for about 8-10 miles then check engine light goes out and truck will run normal the rest of the day. they have tried to get codes but none are showing up . i've been told its a sensor ???? with the truck plugged up its fine but cant always plug it up. what are your thoughts any help is greatly appreciated. i try to do all the work i can on it but this is more than i know.
Thanks so much l like you too much brother
I have a c13 and that's what I always keep my eyes on temp. I don't let it pass 200 I turn on the fan before any hill
Aneudi Guerrero I have a c13 also. I really don't give a shit as long as the heat don't get out of control. I hual light and don't sweat it
@@miguelrobb5719 na I do that's my money maker brother I have to take care of it so I try my best to keep it cool at all times
Hello friend I work on Cat LHD equipment! Would love to know if is the same engine! And also I could use a wiring diagram!!! Good video
Hellow bro do you work to cat
Adept Ape Im setting it on shutdown when i get this one in.
+george kuersten Yep, the C7 is the smallest true Cat engine, everything smaller is made by Perkins which is a bit less quality in my opinion.
Hi .thank you for very good information.i had c13 I got error by pressing cruise button the numbres 1295 what is the problem than?
thanks for all the videos men
+jesus torres Glad to have subscribers 😀
thanks for the video
I had my c13 fix with a new cam and cam followers and I also had the head rectified. Before I fix it my oil pressure was normally at 63 psi at 17 rpm. After all the repairs where done my oil pressure drop to around 59 psi at the same rpm. I lost like 4 psi after repair. Is that normal??
How much would you charge to rebuild my c13? And where are you located...would love to have you as my mechanic
Great Video.. Great Info!!!
Thanks!!!
Hi please can you share me engine, transmission, Differential oil change service schedule please
what's the average expected life of a C13 after an inframe? What issues should you look for when considering buying a user OTR truck with a C13?
Awesome Sauce as usual...good job, man ! 😎👍
+JIGA BACHI Thank you
very good
Very informative appreciate the info you are sharing.
Number 2 injector was showing misfire, removed the valve cover and found the injector rocker was broke off. are these pressed on the rocker shaft?? not to mention the jake brake threaded stud is extremely tight to loosen. c13 acert
My C-13 never seems to have oil pressure above 40 psi unless its a fresh oil change. Is that bad?
Any chance would you happen to know where the oil temp sensor on the C13 is
Are the c11 turbo the same as the c13 turbo? Can I put a c13 low pressure turbo in a c11 is the question.
what's the difference between precooler and aftercooler?
Got a question if you don't mind. Where is the CGI temp sensor located at on a C13 LEE prefix. I've been looking and haven't been able to find it for sure.
I have 03 c13 and 1 cracked ring and blowing oil out stack. Full overhaul? And what should I pay for overhaul?
I have a kenworth with a c11, failure -it spun main bearing #2,6. I have a c13 block can I use the c13 block and swap all parts from my c11 to the c13
Where would the mass air pressure sensor be located?
Thanks!
Thank you Paul.
Hello sir.. In C11 engine Conrod bearing notch which side to be come..and the reason for... . Help me... Thank you sir...
I have a part number 2219386 block I am told is the same as the 2397359 C13 block however these do no interchange according to CAT. My engineering guys say the only difference is a weep hole on the front of the block. Can you confirm if these blocks are interchangeable.
What causes engine overheating on a c13
Check if ur fan clutch is working
I had that issue on my c13
My c13 engine exhaust manifold and turbo glowing in night time what is the probable causes, before we are not obsorved, after top overhauling we observed
Hi, I need to replace my C13 OKCB82016 engine on my automatic International 9200i SBA, what other c13 engine can I use if I don't find one with the same serial number ?
If my c13 don't have Jake's how much trouble is it to install
nice video, thanks for sharing.
+Josh Kilen Thank you for watching.
Adept Ape
thanks for the reply. on the radiator part I was thinking the same thing (go bigger). on the switching twin Turbo part I seen them switch on the C15.
The engine is 17-1 compression so it will do fine without the ivas installed.
nice job.. any engine rebuild video would be much appreciated.
Can you explain oil pump housing , how to change oring and housing , what the procedure,
I just heard that the C13 was an International engine.. is that true? or how much truth to it is there?
Where are you guys located I would like to bring my truck to your shop..
So there is only two models of c13?
This is good information
Thanks
Will you do a walk around of the c15 acert twin turbo engine?
+Herman U I will in the future I still have to do the C15 engine video.
That's what happened to this specimen I'm changing. Overheat. Dilution. Main and rod bearing failure. Seized. $27k to go
What should I check engine lose power
Emerson Fontes white smoke is a consequence of extended idle time which is never good and could end up damaging your DPF filter and causing an exotherm event, also it causes slobber which could explain your “fuel” complains on rear cylinders, bear in mind that your only source of fuel inside the cylinder is from the injectors, worn rings will only allow more oil into combustion chamber
list of 'apocalypse' engines? ;)
Hi does the cat c11 and c13 have the same cylinder head
do you recommend drilling out the dfp muffler or adding a standard Muffler this is a privately owned RV
He is still a cat employee so his only recommendation would be to keep it stock.
Does a Cat C13 have a throttle valve
Is this model C13 CPXH0763EBK a KCB or LEE?
Is a maintenance experience on c13
hi sir can u send me list of sensor name for cat c12,c15 and c18 engine
Hello I have a question, how does one pin a C13 engine? For example when trying to find top dead center for valve/injector adjustment. I noticed on the C13's unlike the C10's there is the hole for the turning tool on the passenger side and the hole to pin the flywheel on the driver's side.
+First Last Most C13 have the pin hole in the exhaust side with next to the turning tool hole. Usually the ones with the intake side hole have a rear PTO drive like a cement truck or something like that.
Yep that's my case
Is it normal for a c13 acert to have a running temp around 190 on water and 210 on the oil
Would a 2005 cat c13 series 2 have the art head?
hi!..a question about the fuel pressure regulator ...do you know the size of fitting that comes out of the head?
+Rigo Ruvalcaba For the fuel lines? I'm not sure as the head uses an oring boss style and the fitting coming out of that is a -8 JIC I believe. Sorry I don't know it off the top of my head.
I have a question my tractor trailer have a c13 Caterpillar engine, but I'm concerned about some smoke around the manifold what that could be..
Did you figure what that smoke was, i have the same issue
when you state the maintenance intervals is that using synthetic oil? light applications?
Brandon Clausen those recommendations are only based if you use CAT DEO oils and CAT Branded Oil and Fuel filters
do a vid on c10 and c12.
+Russ Trucker Can do, just not sure when.
can excessive crankcase pressure alter atmospheric pressure sensor readings? and could a faulty atmospheric sensor cause sporadic high egts? thank you
Brandon Clausen barometric sensor only reads your atmosphere pressure in order to do that the sensor has to be exposed to ambient, in other words sensor is not located on your oil pan or engine block. A faulty barometric sensor can indeed cause you higher EGT readings because ECM maps are designed to inject specific amounts of fuel at a given air pressure
Where is the speed sensor?
Does a 2004 c 12 have any of the emissions stuff?
+Andrew Smith No sir, the C12 is a pretty straight forward engine with no emissions components.
where is the IVA located
I have c 13. On my turbo it looks like a oil actuator or something like a waste gate not sure. The metal line broke off and need to kno where the or he end of line goes. Need help anyone
Question what does it mean "engine intake valve actuation system oil pressure control vale : not responding properly" on a cat c13
