Wow Thank you! This video was so helpful to me. My husband and I are adopting from the Foster system and it's already so tough because the agency we are using honestly doesn't help you find a child at all. You have to do practically everything yourself and view kids on the site and there aren't many kids that are a fit for our family. It's been tough but we have inquired on a child and are hopeful it works out.

At least for me, there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the system and it makes me wonder if it's really OK to get involved without already being a parent first. There's also become a big gap between older videos and videos updated for a foster parent experience during the pandemic! It was very rewarding to watch your video. It would be nice to see more!
Totally relate to everything you said! We opened last June and got a sibling set the same day that went through October. It was so hard. I also cried a lot! It was very rewarding but very hard. I tried to close our home after, which she wouldn’t do it! But here am I, just opened back up this week waiting for a call. Like you, I’m trying to go into it with more boundaries set in place so I stay a little bit more in my comfort zone and hopefully not overwhelm myself again haha. I love finding other foster parents online because no one else really “gets it”. Good luck to you!

I love your videos so much. I watched a few of your newer ones but decided to watch them all from the beginning! My husband and I are similar in age to you and your husband and we are nearing the end of our process of getting licensed to foster. I love hearing your stories and experiences!
There's definitely a need for more foster parents sharing info and experience!! We currently have a 9yr old placement and the first week has been absolutely insane. We were actively preparing for just over a year, and yet every day has something unexpected! We are also both working full time out of the house which has been such a road block as older kids are harder to find daycares for, especially when they have troubling behaviors from all of their trauma. Would absolutely love more foster friends and community to share these stories and experiences with!
It definitely can be totally overwhelming especially in the beginning and each new placement has brought on new challenges for us! Some of our local schools provide before and after school care but some don't, that is why we have such a small age range (0-4) so we can rely on full-time daycare
Please keep your videos coming.. I am wanting kids and my husband and are thinking about adopting through foster care and I am trying to get a real depiction of how much my life will change once i have kids and how much different it will be if they aren't technically my kids
Very transparent and exactly what people need to know…things we never really thought of and we both work so good to hear your perspectives . We just had our walkthrough today for home and waiting to be first time foster parents😬
We're about to embark on adopting a sibling set out of foster care. Parental rights were terminated months ago, so the kids have been waiting for their forever family. We won't have all the visits and some of the other stuff that comes along with fostering to worry about, but we KNOW it's still going to be so challenging. We reviewed their case files, and the kids have been thru everything that training *tells* you about but can't truly *prepare* you for. Until they actually get here, it's a weird nervous/excited emotion.
How are you liking your age range?? I fostered up to age 9 but wasn’t exactly prepared for their strong words! Need a little more training to learn how to navigate care with the more aware youth…
