Hudds .. Absolutely brilliant as hadn't a clue about V Nav techniques. Will be using it extensively so can enjoy the precision of the G1000 even more. Better watch your mixture and landing videos again as I keep crashing on landing. You explain it all so comprehensively and clearly ! Best of luck
Great tutorial on basic VNAV in the C172 G-1000. (My preferred MSFS aircraft is the Vision Jet G2 with the G-3000) I'm just learning all this stuff myself and have watched several YT how to videos on VNAV. One thing that has been emphasized is to ensure you have the BARO set to the local pressure/QNH. This is especially important for the destination airport since you may be above GS/Glide path intercept altitude with an erroneous BARO. Obviously this is not an issue in this video's short flight. Also, VNAV makes a great auto pilot controlled glide path for LOC, VOR and NDB approaches. These approaches only give course information and not any glide path info beyond the approach plate descent profile. Perhaps a future advanced VNAV video could cover how to set this up and fly these approaches. Cheers!
Hello again, I'm glad VNAV works in MSFS now. Unrelated, one thing I noticed were your Throttle and Mixture knobs were oscillating back and forth minutely which to me means a noisy signal from your throttle quadrant. You might want to compare it to another throttle quadrant you may have lying about to see if it behaves the same, cheers.
Thank you for your video. Very nice tutorial as usual. I was just surprised to hear you were climbing down. I believe in aviation we just say descent to altitude 4000 feet 😉
thank you for your tutorial videos. they are easy to understand and tremendous help. especially for newb like me. (actually i played FS before, but that was on my 8-bit atari ages ago, haha 😄). anyway, thanks for your guides.
Thanks for another great video. One point to note, it’s Blenheim Palace not Blemhelm Palace. The text is not very clear on the map so the i looks like an L. FYI it’s normally pronounced Blenim Palace.
Excellent thanks Huddison. First time I have tried it. Was a synch even first time. Only thing is I did not get the magenta altitude come up on the left screen next to the altitude ie: 5000ft.
I’m not getting the altitude constraints being transferred from the flight plan to the magenta box on the PFD altitude ribbon either. VNAV constraints are also not transferring on the G3000. Apart from that VNAV does appear to be working correctly on both G units now. (I am on XBox - not sure if that’s a factor?)
@@Huddison Thanks it’s somewhat comforting to know it’s not just an XBox problem. A great video as usual by the way. I find your instructional videos are pitched at just the right pace and are easy to follow as well. I’m really getting into VNAV now. I find it complements the various procedures really well.
This is exactly the video I was looking for, and I've flown it 5-6 times. The first few times I realized I had some serious lack of G1000 functionality--a reinstall fixed that. But now each time the final VNAV link fails to happen--there is no descent to the runway. I get to the faf and arm the APR button and wait . . . nothing happens! Can you suggest what obvious thing I'm overlooking? Thanks for your great tutorials--I'm subscribed and going through your other Back to Basics videos. I just saw the comment about switching to ILS for final approach, but isn't the latest version of NXi supposed to to that automatically? And this is RNAV with vertical guidance, so wouldn't the ILS be redundant?
Hey! Question, for you. I have done this a couple times and it worked perfectly. However, now when I enter the flight plan I never see the 3000 teal altitude number by the 5000 altitude that we set. Any info on why that no longer appears? This would be on the pilots view screen on the left.
I am glad I am not the only one to have noticed this. I reinstalled the NXI to be sure but I agree the 3000 teal altitude never appears. This is on Xbox version if that makes any difference.
Do you know if you can plan a visual approach to a specific runway VFR in the 750 and use VNAV? I know it’s possible with the G1000. Thanks for your input
Any ideas why my GPS doesn’t show my required altitude next to my set altitude? I also don’t get a flight path indicator or anything. However everything in the tutorial works perfectly.
@@Huddison I think I may have discovered the problem, perhaps I do not have the G1000 NXI downloaded and only started with the original G1000 because I did everything step by step as you did in the video. Thank you for the comprehensive videos they are super helpful to a newbie who has just been trying to soak up as much as possible.
Hi there. I've just looked over the Video 4 "reshoot" in which I did see the magenta altitude to the right of the assigned altitude on the PFD. However, on this one I don't, despite the fact that my waypoint altitudes match yours. Any ideas?
@@Huddison Thanks for the link. That's actually the video I'm referring to above. The magenta numbers do always show up when I do that one. But on this course they don't always (although sometimes they do). Weird.
@@Huddison I tried various other approaches, same result, easy to make altitude changes for Vnav in the flight plan, all show the "edit" icon but nothing on the PFD.
Hudds … I’m paging the Oracle here. Flying in Sweden ESMX to ESGJ. Selected Approach ILS 01. Then rather than selecting OJ as thought it was the long way I selected Vectors and activated it. This saw my magenta line disappear, LOC as CDI and am currently using Heading mode to intercept the magenta line vector into ESGJ. Any thoughts or advice ?
@@Huddison I did not see it as a fail. I seem to be prone to picking up stuff like that. I proof read documents, and tend to be a bit nit picky...LOL. I enjoy your videos and usually always learn something new from them.
Awesome...love the idea of sliding into a new city, IFR and ILS through the clouds and rain!❤😅
It's a wonderful simming experience 😎

RNAV approaches are fun to fly! Also, more airports have RNAV procedures vs ILS/LOC.
One im looking forward to working through. Always wondered what Vnav was . Great video As always. See you in flight on Sunday mate 👍

Thanks Tom. I have noticed the oscillation with the Logitech Throttle; it doesn't happen with my V1 FS or Yoke.
Cheap throttles eh ;)
Great Video Huddison and a very good flight lesson. Cheers !

Would have a set up sequence for the Tobii Eye Tracker for MSFS, mine jumps all over the place and difficult to operate the mouse with keys
This is good. Have to do a similar flight. Thanks for that!

Excellent presentation. Thanks

Great to hear Phil. The projected Alt seems to be bugged currently - a fair few of us are not getting it to show up.

Do you get an outline of the GS indicator when approaching your final fix? If it goes underneath you, you'll have to chase it back up.
@@Huddison Thanks for the suggestion. I think my main problem was bad timing on arming the approach. Best VNAV tutorial on UA-cam!
