    I have some Aspara HL1 horns which I've loved from first hearing. I've spent four years redesigning the cross over using empiracal means. I'm here to learn how to do these things properly. Thanks a lot for your brillant videos.

    I'm just getting into DIY audio gear and love your channel @josephcrowe!!! Do you have a video explaining the pros and cons of different horn geometries?

      No, but I’ve done plenty of comparisons against various horn types. My horns fall under the exponential category, while most horns these days are constant directivity. That’s the biggest difference.

    Looks like a good project for semester break this winter. Going to use both drivers suggested from Parts Express. Thinking about active crossover with two amps and streaming pre-amp.

    This is awesome! I was eyeing that GRS driver and wondering about horn loading it and here you are making a video about it. Thanks for the video!

    Looks amazing. Any chance the design could be made available for 18mm plywood (at least the horn)??? The 24mm ply is nearly impossible to find these days. You’ll just be reaching a much bigger customer base. Not sure if your 3D software can accommodate this without too much effort.

    This exactly what I am looking for but prefer 8 or 10 inch woofer folded horn bass cabinet if possible or just bass reflex but smaller cabinet then the 12inch woofer. And one GRS planar in the horn. How much will it be to build it as I am not diy guy. Thanks!

    What about the dayton rss315hfa-8-12. In a blog comaring the dayton rss315 to the eton 12-612 you favored the dayton Do you still have the dayton and would you offer crossover plan for it Thanks

    this design is just crazy .. thank you for the inspiration
    2 questions
    -if i make the horn walls follow the curve instead of being segmented .. would that make it better or worse ?
    -how would it be if i make the port in the front ??? would be unhearable ?
    thank you very much

    I like all of your designs regardless of the fact that I have not heard a single note...lol My point is I have had good success with the original GR tweeter and the smaller woofer offerings from ETON. My struggle has been the elusive point-source imaging I've heard other horn presentations and realized good depth and soundstage. Not so much with the conventional cabinet design. One more.. in a question: The port, is it flared on inside as well?

    Awesome and so inspiring! Glad I didn't build the Summer Rain yet lol! Joseph can I ask you if you prefer this horn to the ES-600. Thank you very much for sharing!

      The Sabourin will provide a much larger and coherent sound. It takes very little effort to hear even the smallest details in the sound, even into the lower midrange.

    That looks very interesting indeed! Question: wouldn't it make sense building a cabinet for the planar where the back wall isn't flat and parallel?

      Yes, but you would need to make it fairly large to properly mitigate backwaves

    These could be my very next project. By the way, where can I buy the cross over?

    Have you tried the Bass cabinet with one of the Eminence or Celestion drivers you have (or anything else from Parts-Express :) )?
    This looks like a great project! Would you be able to provide some sound demos of the speakers, both individually and combined, please?
    Keep up the great work Joseph! The aesthetic on your designs is very cool :)

      Hi, it’s an 80 litre cabinet so I’m sure there are plenty of drivers that would potentially work. You would have to confirm with a simulation program such as WinISD. Or I can do it for you.

    May I ask if the horn section was attenuated at all to match the sensitivity of the woofer?

    By approximating the smooth horn shape you have used on your CNC biradials, what do you lose by using horns with discrete angle changes? Are they a source of significant diffraction?

    • @JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding
      @JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding  3 роки тому

      There is some compromise with the discrete angle changes. But the net result is still a wide margin better than most speakers on the market. The off axis polars are pretty revealing of the difference. But it gets you in the ball game for not much cost.

    Is it possible to make this speaker Bluetooth and wireless? Or any type os premium speaker?

    • @JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding
      @JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding  2 роки тому

      I would suggest a Bluetooth plate amp. A reasonably priced unit can be found here. There are more expensive units offering more power and better sound

    A pentagonal cabinet would probably further reduce standing waves cuz a trapezoid has 2 sets of parallel walls vs 1set with a pentagon (if you don’t angle the top panel)
