    Rob,
Let me help you out with the revolver. You are correct about the expulsion of gases from the side of the revolver due to the cylinder gap however, the cylinder gap is not where you pointed. The cylinder gap is on the muzzle side of the cylinder between the cylinder and the barrel, not at the back of the cylinder where you pointed. You can clearly see where the gases exit in your example videos. There you go, carry on sir!
P.S. Keep up the good work! Call out some of this dang ninjas!

I would like to see you call out George Dillman.
As for Bong, early on he posted himself with his black belt doing the first shotokan form (punches and low blocks). His punches were aimed at his own shoulders, which tells me he learned a white belt form. He seems to have remained at that white belt level.

Sadly, some of his techniques are incorrect executions of legitimate techniques from Hapkido, JiuJitsu, Aikido, etc... He is definitely performing them incorrectly. One pet peeve I have with demonstrations, is that because techniques are demonstrated slowly, observers will say "Well, I could just step this way or that way or punch him." What they don't understand is that the technique is intended to be executed very fast and the opponent won't have time to step or punch. You have experience, you know this... This is especially true with joint locks and throws. They can't be easily demonstrated at full speed because someone will get hurt. I've seen people get their wrists broken playing around with techniques like Kotegaeshi too fast. It's like seeing a punch or kick demonstrated slowly to show correct form and someone saying "If he threw that punch or kick at me, I'd just grab it." No... you wouldn't. At full speed you wouldn't have time to even move. Just because someone demonstrates a tecnhique slowly, that doesn't mean that's how it's supposed to be executed or that it won't work. Having got that off my chest, (deep breath), his execution was terrible at any speed, as you pointed out. It looks like he's seen real techniques, but didn't quite understand how they work. I'm glad you pointed out that grabbing a revolver around the cylinder gap will likely cost you a hand or some fingers. Even with disarms involving long barreled revolvers, where you can easily grab the barrel, you still have to be careful not to get your arm too close to the cylinder gap.

    • @CyberChrist
      @CyberChrist 4 місяці тому

He showed gases escaped at the back and not the front of the cylinder, though :P
In my opinion, there are plenty of ways to interfere with the hammer (and slide, for automatics) which would prevent a gun from firing... but I doubt I'd be silly enough to try them unless I have my back against the wall.

If the revolver isnt cocked already grabbing around the cylinder tight will render it practically useless because pulling the trigger double action style has to rotate the cylinder and a firm grip on it should keep it from rotating. If the hammer is cocked back already then its a very different scenario

Someone I see at work now and then (it's a security job and due to the nature of it we don't always bump into each other) studied karate and judo, and has learnt through training and experience how to apply them. We had some back and forth and how he would deal with a standard boxing combo, jab-cross-hook, and he had something that could deal with the hook IF he managed it after the first two. I've done some Silat, and realised there was something I could technically do against his counter to avoided eating the pavement, but then he asked a very important question, "would you actually be able to do that in the moment though?". No, I could not. It's not something I have trained for so I wouldn't see it coming, and wouldn't respond to it in time.
Mt point is, a good martial artist who's actually trained and pressure tested will know what can work and what will work depending on training. The Bong guy, yeah he comes up short on that.

since it isnt mentioned: the surefire way to stop a revolver from firing in a gun disarm situation is to put a finger either on the back of the hammer if its uncocked or inbetween the front of the hammer and the frame if its cocked
doing the former stops the hammer from being able to cock in double action and doing the latter stops the hammer from dropping in single action
if the revolver has a shrouded hammer or is "hammerless" youre just SOL if direct hand grabs fail to move the muzzle off target
on the topic of grabbing around the ejection port for disarming autoloading pistols, if the pistol goes off while your hand is over the ejection port its a guaranteed second or third degree burn for anything 9mm and above, this is because tons of super hot gasses and the super hot brass case itself shoot out the ejection port and straight into your hand
qod: i know its not possible since he died a year ago, but i wouldve loved to see you shatter mikhail bowling ball ryabkos systema con and the mad delusions of his zealous fangirls

  • @CyberChrist
    @CyberChrist 4 місяці тому

As it's been said elsewhere, gases escape a revolver's cylinder at the front, not the back like you showed.
Wouldn't most revolvers not fire if you interfered with the hammer and same for most automatics if you racked the slide back, even a little bit?

I have commented in the reddit post, and I'll comment the same here: there are some principles at least in his knife defense videos, but he has some weird obsession in grabbing the knife instead of disengaging the situation. I give it a bit of benefit of the doubt because training drills are meant to be slow and demonstrative, so sometimes not the most realistic looking, but the demonstration still needs to be consistent with reality.
Some defenses look like genuine things I'd do with my fighting background, basically deflect the knife away from your body and even the good idea of a knee strike and try for a stun/distraction, and find a window of opportunity to run away. It is that weird obsession with trying to become the attacker instead of disengaging that gives me LARPing vibes, and now seeing the firearm videos, it only confirms my suspicion he doesn't know what he is doing, especially since I have some experience in BJJ to know the arm torsion of some videos won't do anything

A word of caution: I know that many people idly fantasise about actually meeting and/or fighting these people. I absolutely get it, and I do it too. However, I worry about how that would actually go. Offhand, I think that we can divvy them up into three categories. Maybe there could be more.
    1) The actual frauds and conmen will simply never do it, for obvious reasons. They know what would happen.
    2) The people who genuinely believe that they're teaching real stuff might do it. They could be lovely people who are simply trying their best. However, these people are rarely in it for the money or fame, so they have a much smaller footprint on social media. More, they often already understand to some degree that what they teach is wrong. These people deserve some kind words and a hug, not public humiliation.
    3) Then we have the people who believe whole-heartedly that they're 100th degree black belts, Bruce Lee reincarnated, etc. These people will absolutely accept a challenge. These people may also, to varying degrees, be suffering from mental illness. Nobody wins from humiliating or fighting these people. You're simply abusing a person with mental illness. Shattering their worldview could have severe consequences.

First video of the series that I've watched, maybe? But very cool.
Id like to see an interview, a sit down, cuppa coffee, laid back, relaxed, personal interview with the sucker punch boxer guy. A redemption a la tosh type thing.
I think there's been some time and enough message board dogpiling that the guy might have reconsidered his uhhh life approach. He might have some wisdom that might help other folks out there going through the cycle.
He has an opportunity to surpass any glory he could achieve as merely a fighter - because fighting is only a resort to defend ones self or others, and it's a mark of our own failure to find an alternative if we are forced to defend ourselves because we are using force when words could have had better results. Destruction is easy.
Healing? That takes effort. Time. Dedication.
    Love.
That love is something that everyone deserves to give themselves, to allow themselves to have, to accept as part of their being. That love reciprocates and grows and is vital a part of training as any exercise for the body, mind, and spirit.
I feel like the channel Host might have the Uncle Iroh touch.
I'm definitely looking forward to more of these. Lawd yes.

Beyond that, I first became just a touch unconvinced by Mr. Bong, when I noticed he was trained/graded in "carate"; I know it is rarely useful to criticise someone's spelling and/or grammar, however, it seems within MA, if someone claims to be trained in something, similar, to an actual style, but with different parts spelling, it is likely to be a bit sketchy....oh yeah, Frank Dux, or Steven Seagal would both be interesting to witness. Both actually as unlikely as the other two, I'd love to have seen you spar: John De LaTourette, or Mikhaol Ryabkov. Take care. 💜🌶🧠🌶💜

Has anyone ever heard of a martial art called Bartitsu? I'm considering using it in a comic book I'm attempting to produce as the fighting style for one of the main characters. It's like a combo of boxing, savate, Japanese Jujitsu, with weapons like the cane and dagger. I'm just curious if anyone has ever seen it in action, trained in it themselves, or if anyone has any favourite obscure or unique fighting style that could be picked up while traveling around coastal asia or Russia working on a tramp steam freighter during the 1930s?

A great gadget for testing knife defenses would be something like a knife-shaped Magic Marker, blood red of course. Just don't wear anything you don't want to get covered in ink symbolizing your blood.
Even an ordinary magic marker - which is good only for thrusts and not for cuts - would be a start on demonstrating what happens when you try one of those techniques full-speed. Maybe we could arrange a Kickstarter?
As for who to call out? While Dillman is an obvious choice because he's the one that the scale is named after, I gotta go with Seagal. Dillman appears to be merely delusional or maybe just a conman, but Seagal's done some bad stuff that needs correction. Both may have been legit martial artists at one time but I have never seen either deal with a sincere attack (a series of ukes grabbing your lapel is not a sincere attack).

Pretty much the only way to avoid getting cut in a knife fight is to pull a gun or maybe something with long reach like a bo/staff, or they pull a knife you pull a sword. knife vs knife, or knife vs unarmed is going to end up bloody, even if you "win".

Yeah, you don't need to be the #1 fighter on Earth to call out the BS that exists lol. I know people think it is harmless, and maybe some is.
I kind of thought this info was important to stop people from following dumb stuff, but the FACT is that people unironically looking for self defense tips like these on UA-cam are probably not watching real stuff. I have met a person that fell for the Nigerian Prince scam, and when I pointed it out he simply said "Oh, that happens to me a lot." He just walked away. Like, dude, didn't you want a report?
I truly feel bad for people that are clearly limited intellectually. I met one really sharp girl that was scammed, and it was a really elaborate con... anyone can be scammed. But when you fall for a prince scam there is a whole new level to that. Can you protect people that are that gullible?
I dunno the reaching effects, but great work. Between this and Flat Earth debunking videos I am not sure if you reach the people that NEED it, but it is entertaining as heck so keep rocking it 😁
