Hello, this is Venox formerly Stitch from Voodoo Box, the developer of LoneLy: The DesCent. Thank you for mentioning my project in this video. I never thought it would be mentioned in a list like this and I'm so happy to be listed here with the other Silent Hill clone gems. Absolutely awesome! 🤯About the game itself: The English version is still in development, but I'm working on an another project at the same time. In any case, there will be more to LoneLy this year and the development will also progress more quickly as soon as my work on the second project is finished. I didn't even know some of the games here yet, but they looked very interesting. I'll definitely check them out - thanks! ✌
Hi! Thank you very much for the video. I am the developer of Road to Hollow Hills, and as many other developer mentioned, is an honor to be in a list such this. I really appreciate the highlight and the feedback. I would also like to mention the demo was updated recently, including new areas different from the previus demo (yes, City is available this time!), enhance visuals, improved gameplay, combat, and RPG mechanics, music, etc, etc. Cheers!
Hello! LostLifeOrigins Dev here!😁Thank you for completely valid review! It was completely unexpected to see my game on the list!🤯 I see that you played steam demo... it is really outdated, two years old... (I need to update it ASAP 😅) Since that, there's been a lot of new content added... - Moved to Unreal Engine 5 - Improved combat (Not the best but still better than in demo) - Improved AI (now AI can be scared or run in packs) - 20+ types of enemies - Bestiary (you can gather information about enemies to make it easier to fight them) - Climbing system(you can climb on top of cars, fences allowing you access more area in some areas😅) - New game mode (allows to unlock secret events and items in act 2...) - Reworked inventory - Some tutorials been added - New events and secrets - New Collectables (Some of them have effect on your stats or events that you may encounter) - Reworked some areas and improved graphics - Lots of optimizations and other stuff Act 1 is a slow-paced tutorial like, and what you do in it affects future game events... Act 2 is more combat and city exploration oriented. The game still has ways to grow... I was making it purely for myself to recreate that SH atmosphere and that feeling of exploring foggy town... now the project has grown much bigger😅 And with communities help, GameDev live streams where anyone can share ideas and feedback, I'm trying really hard to improve it and make a better experience!☺ If you or anyone else want to try the paid steam version, I can provide FREE keys!😊Just let me know!😊 Thank you for your review! 😊😊
This is such a great collection. Thank you so much for making this list for those of us always chasing that silent hill feeling and want to find the obscure stuff too. Please make more when you find more groups
Believe it or not, The Evil Within 2 plays a lot like a Silent Hill game. In fact, you can even unlock James Sunderland's gear for Sebastian to wear. It's not exactly like a Silent Hill game, but it has enough elements that if you play it, you'll see what I mean.
@@160sharp If you finish the game on at least Casual difficulty, you'll unlock an outfit called "Drifter". It's not identical to James's gear from Silent Hill 2, but it's close enough that you'll have a hard time not recognizing it.
I’m glad he got cry of fear in this video (also the banned memories demo could have been better if it had a hint to the clock puzzle instead of fiddling with the clock & the thing I like about the frozen garden is that you can move the flashlight’s direction just by using the mouse I discovered this detail while I played the frozen garden for the first time)
Glad I can help! Much of these games definitely helped me in rekindling my love for these indie survival horror games so I'm glad my findings helped with this collection of mine.
nice video, I hit the like & subscribed, appreciate the calm and normal tone of voice and lack of cringey humoristic inserts that are in so many videos, and also the conciseness of the reviews pointing out very concrete qualities and issues it would be nice if the entries were ordered in terms of quality because then you can use the video more effectively when trying to find good overlooked games to play, but I understand that that might not be desirable for the channel since then people might only watch part of the video
I remember coming across Cry Of Fear at the same time I found The Devil Came Through Here series (which I would strongly recommend - especially The Cat Lady!). Those were some magical times for me and horror games. I also want to try out Tormented Souls. Been meaning to for a while, but never had the chance yet.
Really been looking for games that scratch that Silent Hill itch and this just gave me soooooo many recs! Thank you a billion super well put together video❤❤
Signalis, Cry of Fear, and Lost in Vivo are peak in terms of spiritual successors to Silent Hill in my own personal opinion. Their own takes, as well as their own spins ono the gameplay of the beloved series. While I've yet to play the others, I can certainly hope to give some of these a try. Though Signalis holds a special kind of brainrot for me lol
Signalis would of been good if not the inventory system. That game is so tedious to complete with the amount of shit game gives you and requires you to take. Making key items a separate from weapons and consumables would of been a good decision
it's been more than a year since i played signalis and it still hasn't left my head; it just perfect encapsulates the essence of horror we see in those og survival horror games that made them so special. not to mention it's one of, if not the, best tragic love story i've seen in a hot minute.
It’s so wild that nobody really done into CONCLUSE so far, like a big analysis video or a deep dive. There was also an incredible UA-cam ARG accompanying the game, and I think a sequel, too. How it’s stayed under the radar… no clue!!
THANK YOU for providing links to the actual games. You wouldn't believe how many Streamers are too lazy to provide even this basic courtesy to the games themselves. Many of which has this requirement in their TOS.
Talked to one of the two Simulacrum devs yesterday. The game has not been cancelled. Development stalled during covid and completely stopped for some time. Nothing new to report at this time but it has nt been cancelled.
Is so good to see Lonely: the Descent getting featured in a video, rpg maker games are not treated seriously anymore. Is like their only sin is being a rpg maker game, regardless if the game is good or not. I enjoyed that game a lot, is pretty unique. If you liked the game and want another rpg maker game, I recommend Skolios. Another German game and a really good horror game.
Didnt see it mentioned anywhere else but needed to provide a correction, there is a hint for the clock puzzle in Banned Memories, you even showed it on screen. The note in the classroom with the clock talks about how the school was opened 358 years before 1993, which is 1635 which turned into time is 16:35 or otherwise 4:35 which is the solution to the puzzle. Not a terrible puzzle for a game that is held together with soggy duct tape.
What a nice list of the games, sadly the only one that I played was Tormented Souls since I'm mostly a console gamer, most of those titles are on PC and yeah..., I don't have a PC gaming and is kind a luxury in my country to have a proper PC to play modern games so I can't afford it. But still those games looks darn good to give it a try. In case if you are still looking other indie games similar to Silent Hill, I recommend you the game: Injection Pi23, it's a nice indie game made by one guy from Spain who clearly is a big fan of Silent Hill since the games feels like a love letter to the franchise, still it has flaws and clunky gameplay but is still enjoyable. Also the series has 2 games: the first one called No name no number that has a complete version on PS4 (include 2 extra DLCs chapters) and the sequel called Ars Regia.
If someone told me that Road to Hollow Hills was a lost seventh generation AAA survival horror game with a budget in the millions, I'd have believed them if I didn't know better! If the devs of it read this comment, know I am cheering you on.
Nice work. Cool to see stuff on here that doesn't get talked about enough like Lost in Vivo. Check pronunciation if you aren't sure about a word. Simulacrum is pronounced si·myuh·la·kruhm, for example.
PLayed crow country and then came across this video what a coincidence,i really loved it,to me it felt like the lost sister of RE 2 and SH1,cant wait for it to be released, good thing its being developed by an studio that has actually released plenty of games before and the last enemy before the demo ends creped me the hell out and the lenght of the demo varies a lot for each player,to me it took an hour and a half, mainly because i was enjoying it and taking my time with it to fully judge if it was for me,needless to say i forgot i was playing a demo.
Tormented Souls give me the vibe that i searching for of an silent hill game, final game chapters is so fucking good. Try if you want the feeling again, also this game have a sequel announced.
I feel offended because LoneLy - The Descent got mentioned but my rpg-maker game wasn't! Even though people love to compare it to Silent Hill. Rude! :D I'm kidding of course. I'm happy for my boy Stitch to get some recognition for his work. As far as I know, he's still working on the english translation and part 2 of "The Descent" as well. My outrageous self promotion aside - There are other silent hill esque rpg-maker horror games but some sadly never got completed. The most promising one for me was "Taut - just another silent hillish game" which is more Silent Hill on the outside and Twin Peaks on the inside with a very complex story and tense atmosphere. Anyway - thanks for supporting us indie devs!
Hey there! It's really cool to see you in contact with the developer for Lonely! It's honestly always so honorable and a pleasure to review these indie games to give my thoughts but also exposure to these hidden gems. Apologies for not reviewing your Silent Hill esque indie game. It never came up from my findings. I do plan to come back to this one day, but I will be taking a break from this little series of mine. But please update me on your or your buddies' indie game! Would love to make a full review of it one day when it's ready. :)
@@silenthillarchives No worries, I guess rpg maker horror stuff is still fairly unknown to most people nowadays and it's easy overlook them. Stitch might still need some time and also wants to complete his work on part 2 of "LoneLy". I've completed my game "Skolios" back in 2022 if you wanna check that out. As I said, this was more of a joke, I'm not expecting people to promote me. After all, this is just for passion and not to sell something. But thanks, I've seen you already did several Silent Hill videos so take all the time you need.
Aargh! I can't remember there was a game very similar to cry of fear! The only thing I can remember that you had to go through some ventilation shafts full of spider webs and the monsters would come out screaming as hell out of you! There was also somkinda tunnel with a chainsaw guy running at you! There was a lot of shooting in the game aslo. All I can say is that I felt really sick going through the game becuase the screaming and shouting were just too much for me haha I would like to know which game that was so that I can complete it once and for all!
I don't know if someone else felt like me that lake haven chrysalis had the similar vibe as twin peaks plot? well I think make lot of sense because team silent took inspired of twin peaks to created silent hill as well.
Just finished Tormented Souls today, it certainly shows its influences, and I'd say it's better Silent Hill than most SH games that came after SH Trilogy. It's not a psychological horror tho, but it's not cheap horror either. There are a few issues tho, combat can be somewhat clunky (first enemy I've encountered I've beat in close combat but wasn't hitting them, the other enemy type, quite often I'd have to circle and approach from the side while they were on the ground to even hit them. You're backtracking waaaaaay toooooo much, and puzzles can be... too wonky/difficult at times, like... I've not had issues with puzzles until mid game, actually quite easily figuring some of them out, but then some of them pop up, where you don't really have proper clues on how to solve them nor logic nor anything like that, and they might end up too abstract at times, and some times, it's just something you've seen an hour or two ago, and have no clue where to go next, so I've resorted to guide. What might turn players off (other than Tank controls which I don't mind) is main character model, which looks weird/animeish and overstuffed, not detailed per se, but like... not fitting or something along that line, they way main character is dressed is just too much imo. But it's a really game worth playing for horror fans (which I'm actually not lmao). Despite there being elements of RE, SH and even Fatal Frame 2 in it. Story isn't that surprising, there are major plot points I've seen coming from the very beginning, but there are plot twists I actually didn't see coming at all. So I'd suggest you give it a glance or two, like a few reviews or something... I could probably drone about some things not making much sense, but it doesn't really ruin the experience... the only thing that really bothered me with the game is Map not showing my location, and not pointing to my location, as in... after some point in the game, it would open the map to 2F-W always, even if I wasn't there.
It's a shame a lot of these games only take fog and rust from Silent Hill, when SH was more than that. yeah 1 and 3 had those elements and 2 had teh fog, but the story telling and characters and the ways those 3 games did their horror made SH. For my money after SH3 the only game to come close to SH is Rule Of Rose and that game had no fog and no rust. But its story telling felt very SH and it had its own atmosphere.
Unfortunately , it doesn't really have the same vibes as SH imo...although it has its own charm , there was a very tiny amount that seemingly had any thing related to SH , the art was / is beautiful...it's hard for me to put into words how much the story meant to me / affected me once it starting making sense , I won't "spoil" the message for others
@@TimoNaaro idk , but it seemed pretty long to me , it felt more like a walking / running simulator with lots of cut scenes, more like a tech demo than an actual game to me & I didn't play it just , I watched a video lol
Almost every one of this games havent been released yet, at least on Steam, even no release date has been announced. I wonder how this dude can review them if they dont even exist😅
My apologies! In any other video, I would, but it's more of a mod of a pre-existing game that has little to no resemblance to Silent Hill. The purpose of this is to highlight and find indie games that are in spirit to Silent Hill.
Its kinda rude calling these games a Sh clone, more like inspiration, clone is its the same game dude, most of em have theyre own perspective of the SH aesthetic but different in their own. Theyre just agreat tribute for a great game, that konami is butchering nowdays.... Fuck konami!!

I think that game is very bad. Fighting is pure pain. Stopped playing it after 2 hours.
Signalis is simply 😍😍😍
sad part is these are all closer to being silent hill than anything konami is releasing with the reboots.
Has he covered Them and Us?
Great vid! What do you think about narrating horror stories or events?
You're pronunciation of simulacrum was like nails on a chalkboard my guy. Great video though. Aside from that.
It's not that bad, if anything it sounds like the French pronunciation of said Word.
More of a resident evil inspired game but Alisa reminds me of silent hill.
You forgot Still Ridge :v
It's a shame a lot of these games only take fog and rust from Silent Hill, when SH was more than that. yeah 1 and 3 had those elements and 2 had teh fog, but the story telling and characters and the ways those 3 games did their horror made SH. For my money after SH3 the only game to come close to SH is Rule Of Rose and that game had no fog and no rust. But its story telling felt very SH and it had its own atmosphere.
What happened to Avalanche Reviews ' voice
I wonder if silent hill short message is as good as some of these small indies?
Unfortunately , it doesn't really have the same vibes as SH imo...although it has its own charm , there was a very tiny amount that seemingly had any thing related to SH , the art was / is beautiful...it's hard for me to put into words how much the story meant to me / affected me once it starting making sense , I won't "spoil" the message for others
@@kalezuki9231 cool how long was it?
@@TimoNaaro idk , but it seemed pretty long to me , it felt more like a walking / running simulator with lots of cut scenes, more like a tech demo than an actual game to me & I didn't play it just , I watched a video lol
If you really like old story games please review tomb raider angel of darkness most slept on story fr
Sly 2 mentioned 🎉🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
This is avalanche reviews,thnx 😊
I don't like the term "clones" I just like to think it started a sub genre
Terminus reminds me more of Resident Evil 1, or am I insane
Holstin was fun
i love tormented souls and signalis
very nice
Almost every one of this games havent been released yet, at least on Steam, even no release date has been announced. I wonder how this dude can review them if they dont even exist😅
I always comment for a supercut
Awwww stil no Whispering hills?
My apologies! In any other video, I would, but it's more of a mod of a pre-existing game that has little to no resemblance to Silent Hill. The purpose of this is to highlight and find indie games that are in spirit to Silent Hill.
Te faltó The Crooked Man.

Simulacrum is pronounced (Sim-You-Lack-Rum)
come to sierpinski
Enjoyed the video, but I'm gonna be that guy.
It's sim-u-lac-rum not simu-lacrum
wow that first one is painfully slow
Nice
Im surprised layers of fear is not mentioned since its almost pure psychological horror
SIGNALIS MENTIONED WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPINESS!!!💥💥💪
Thats not a Polaroid camera wtf xD 19:10
thats all you took from the video?
I'm here!
Its kinda rude calling these games a Sh clone, more like inspiration, clone is its the same game dude, most of em have theyre own perspective of the SH aesthetic but different in their own. Theyre just agreat tribute for a great game, that konami is butchering nowdays.... Fuck konami!!
Nice video essay, did you write it for your 9th grade media assignment?
so these are modern games Lol
It literally says that in the title...
