    Our nursing program requires us to take the HESI at the end of each semester and it counts as 2 test grades, talk about stressful. Love your videos, extremely informative

      My program as well, an exit exam after each semester. This semester a little different one Maternity and one Pediatric Hesi exam to pass before the end of the semester. Fortunately they are assigning us practice EAQ questions for exposure weekly.
      I do extra questions and remediate in questions or sections I’m deficient in according to category assigned by the teacher that week. So far have passed every Hesi Exam. First two same score, my latest had an increase of 115. I’d say if your school provides EAQs for free don’t buy extra stuff. I did acquire a PDF version of Saunders to look over but honestly the EAQs are awesome exposure. And these videos! I listen to them on my hour commute. :) I’m reviewing pediatrics this month for this upcoming exam! Good luck all :)

      I agree...I had to take the ATI for exit and I timed out so I didn't even finish, which they say we had 3 hrs but I beg to differ...I was 32 questions from finishing and 30 out the 150 wasn't even graded so I was screwed anyway..we had to make a 70 I made a 51.3 out of whatever questions they graded...

    Now that I am almost finished with my prerequisites, and working as a nurse assistant, I see how becoming a registered nurse is very special and very hard. I am taking dosage calculations and the professor goes too fast and too much for the lecture. So I ask her questions but is too much. I cry a lot. She admitted she loses patience. I think dosage calculations is not that hard, but to be honest it is a little bit hard. I need to study right now. But I really wish I could stay in dorms or my own space when I am in nursing school. I am such an introvert and cannot study in noisy places. Now that I am a nurse assistant, I really see becoming a registered nurse is very nice. I work with geriatrics in a nursing home and some of the patients are funny and wise. I would love this Health care profession as a registered nurse very much.

    I am a first semester nursing student and our program requires that we take hesi exams for every class, every semester. They also count 10% of our grade. I am freaking out about this because 10% is a lot. But I guess it helps us practice for the hesi exit exam.

    I recently took my exit hesi and i did not pass. i am very angry with myself because after i left the exam i knew the answer to the questions i got wrong. This type of exam it is very hard to describe the type of questions they give on it. There really isnt an exact resource for you to get the twisted approach these questions are presented to you in. i retake it Aug 5th. i have learned to slow down and re-read my questions like 5 times before i even answer. i will keep doing what i am doing only because i practiced a million questions and reviewed a lot of stuff. But after taking it i need to focus on peds and maturnity because my professor said its not really on the exam. um they were soooooo wrong thats probably what my exit hesi was really about.

    Thank you for taking the time so share such amazing insight about this sneaky exam. I was reading through your study log, and that finally made it click for me in regard to how I need to start reviewing each day since there hasn’t been much guidance provided from my program. I’ve been studying everyday and completing hundreds of questions but still wasn’t feeling satisfied, so thank you again for your help. You’ve been with me every step of the way during these last 3 years in nursing school; I seriously couldn’t have gotten this far without you. I love you so so so much.

    hello, I have taken my exit 3 times and will be taking it again in to weeks. what suggestions do you have to prepare myself in two weeks? all my scores have ranged from 719 to 829. my school requires a 900 for my next attempt.

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  8 років тому +7

      Hang in there the HESI exit is tough. Did your school give you a print out of the areas you scored the worst on? If so, I would use a NCLEX study book (Saunders is great) and the exit HESI book and study strictly those areas. The major thing you should also do is practice 100s of questions a day until the test day, especially in those areas you are rusty on. Keep a positive attitude and try to do your best....some of the best nurses I've worked with had trouble with this exam. I wish you the best :)

    Great job once again!!! This was like a mini review from the 1st time you gave exit HESI tips..Although, I am nowhere near this point. However, the constant practice questions online and in the book makes for a recipe of success!!! your study tips and the resource materials will work just as well for regular test. It is tried and true that practice really does make perfect. Do you know if there is an app for Saunders? There really are a lot of NCLEX books and apps that would assist a nursing student to the end result they seek!!! You are really on the right track with your tips. Thank you so much for blessings and your sharing favor of knowledge.

    Hello Sarah. I am taking my exit hesi in November and I have started studying the hesi comprehensive book. This book has a ton of charts that are very in depth!.... how deep did you study those chart? Should I memorize them or just get an idea of the info in the charts?

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  7 років тому +2

      Hello Jamara :) For the exit, I read the book from cover to cover and skimmed the charts to get an idea about what they were saying. I highly suggest paying close attention to those "hesi hints" in the book and the end of the review questions. After I would read a chapter, I would practice lots of NCLEX style questions on the topics covered in the chapter. So, I would go back and forth from reading the hesi book to practicing questions. I hope that helps. Best wishes on it!

    Hi! I've taken the exit 3 times as well and I've used the green book and saunders questions and the highest Ive gotten is a 839. I've tried to compare each hesi and re-study what i'm most weak in but it's obviously not working. I can always narrow it down to the two correct answers but I can never pick the right one. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance! :)

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  8 років тому +5

      Hi Selena :) It sounds like you are using the right resources to study. However, it sounds like you may have a problem knowing how to answer those tricky NCLEX style questions correctly. Many students know the material (front and back) but the way the questions are set-up confuses them, and they are left with two possible answers. To help with this I recommend you crank-up how many NCLEX style questions you are practicing on a daily basis. When I was studying for my exit HESI I tried to practice 100s of them daily, and I tried to use different sources (so I could get a variety of questions). I have two videos where I cover how to eliminate answers and figure out what the question is "really asking". You may find them useful:
      "How to Answer NCLEX SATA": ua-cam.com/video/ST8fTSldAEM/v-deo.html
      "Tips on Answering NCLEX Questions with Examples": ua-cam.com/video/1nqTFYo4BGY/v-deo.html
      I hope that helps! Hang in there :)

    I am planning for my HESI schedule from today, the exam day is on Sep. My confusion is if I review each subject first, such as fundamental, OB and then go to the practices, or just go ahead to do an ocean of practices but go back to review books when you are stuck. How to distribute the time of reading and practices? I am asking this because I am lacking the skills on skimming books, so reading occupies too much time...That is not good. Can you give me some suggestions about that? I have visited your website and it is so great and I will keep following it.

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  8 років тому +1

      Hello :) Thank you for watching my videos and for using the website :) I don't know if you have seen my study log I kept to study for the exit HESI and NCLEX, but it may help give you an idea how to prep. Here it is: www.registerednursern.com/my-hesi-nclex-rn-study-log-hours-the-books-i-use-to-study/
      What I did to specifically prep for the exit HESI was that I purchased the HESI exit study guide (I highly recommend this), and I read it from front to back. Since you are taking your exam in September you have plenty of time to do this. What I would do is this: I would read a couple of sections in the HESI book every day. For example, let say you are going to read over fundamentals (ex: infection control etc), after reading I would practice the end of the section question in the book. Then I would read the same material in the Saunders Comprehensive study guide and compare what each study book said, and then to finish up my studying for that day I would practice NCLEX style questions solely on fundamentals (infection control) from the Saunders software (the software lets you pick what areas you want to target). Plus, I would try to find other resources online that has free NCLEX style practice questions for you to practice.
      So, my tips are to read the book from front to back slowly over time (pay attention to HESI hint boxes), practice NCLEX style questions over the topics you are reading about everyday (about 100 a day). Try to spend at least 20-45 minutes a day studying....and if you are super busy on a day...try just 15 minutes. It really helps. I ended up scoring 1002 on the exam and I think my study methods really helped me. Best wishes :)

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  8 років тому +1

      Yes, you could use it....however, I found it doesn't contain everything you learn in class though (it is more condensed). It is more focused on the material that is strictly on the HESI exit exam. Personally, I used the Saunders Comprehensive study guide for my classes and NCLEX and it helped a lot with exams.

    I took my comp hesi rn exit exam yesterday and I made a 1025 and scored in the 90th percentile.Is that good? My conversion score was 86.2 though.I just used my hesi book and did a ton of questions on Nclex 4000.

    Hi Sarah,
    I am in the LVN program and will be taking my exit HESI exam on 1/26/2018! I have both of the books you have recommended in your video. Is the best way to study for HESI is to do hundreds of questions on a daily basis?
    Do you have any strategies I can do on a day to day basis to study? I think the challenging part for me is where to start.
    Thank you so much in advance!

      Hello :) Thank you for watching the video. Yes, practice 100s of questions daily from all the resources you can find. Be sure to read rationales and review the material you got wrong in the HESI study guide. I took the exit HESI and I highly recommend reading through the book and paying very close attention to those "HESI Hints" and tables. Every day I would set a goal of how many chapters I would read and then I would wrap up my reading my practicing review questions over those topics. I hope that helps! Best wishes on it :)

      How did you do on the Hesi exam I have mines coming up and I’m confused on where to study

    At my school we have to take the HESI at the end of each semester. I didn't study for my mental health hesi and I got a 856 , 850 was passing. I studied for 3 weeks for my maternity/peds Hesi for 3 weeks using the NCLEX mastery RN app and I scored a 483. I got 0 points. It just sucked because now i'm out of the program and I was passing matenity/peds. I just feel like I won't accomplish my dreams of becoming an RN. I scored so low and I only had one more semester.

      Hello :) I'm so sorry to hear about your struggle. HESI is a rough exam! I know others on here can relate with you with about HESI. I hope you don't give up on your dream of becoming a nurse though! Thank you for sharing your experience!

    My school has us do the HESI as a final for every class throughout nursing school. Even in Fundamentals.

    Is the HESI all NCLEX questions? Or is it more like a comprehensive exam that your school makes?

    Thank you. I’ll be taking my exit on hesi April 16th (1st try) and I’m extremely nervous. Would you recommend doing adaptive quizzing?
