Tom, Of all those I have reviewed on UA-cam, yours is real world , straight forward and direct. I met another contractor today he charges 200 hour, for heavy equipment operator. Told me got to charge your worth. My rate is 75 hour for finish carpentry. Solo independent contractor. In his city I get more paying leads. Unlike my DYI or hire the lowest cost contractor. I'm moving my goal before Christmas this year. Already talked to realtors. Thanks Tom
@@contractorfighttv Tom you and your staff make great content. My two areas of difficulty... Learning and practice in the Shin Fu after the last 7 months has been the biggest game changer in my business over the last 20 years. It is the ultimate tool in pre-qualifying your clients/and, most importantly.... saving your free time.
You make amazing content. You’re so real, thank you for all the content. Just started my concrete contracting company in Toronto, these videos help out a lot!!!!
Hey I been doing my business as a side job if that makes sense I have a full time job and I make good money but I want to expand myself to gain more but I don't want to quit my job , I have been listening to your shows nonstop and I am waiting on my final business logo to start advertising and marketing what should be my first strategy without quitting my full time job just yet .
I know I'm not the author of this podcast, but I'm in the same boat as you (running side business, planning to go full time). Honestly, Facebook and Craigslist ads have been super successful for us. We also have a good website that I think helps separate us from "fly by night" operations.
So when do you follow up? And what should I be saying? And how do you avoid sounding desperate?? From an earlier video I remember you saying “hi I’m just checking in to see if you had any questions about the quote ” I struggle with to ask the right questions here so I was hoping this video would of went into this in more detail.
I came looking for this answer too. So far. The best I have when I call is to ask if they've had time to review the quote. When Im hit wirh the oh, we found someone else to do it, I reply with Great! Just making sure youre getting the best YOU can get, even if it's not us. Or just trying to make sure your issue is being resolved, even if it's not by us. I like to think it makes me seem less pushy and business like or desperate. Who knows though. Havent recived a call back from any of those, lol!
Good content and I agree to do everything possible to avoid needing the follow up. But sometimes the follow up closes the deal and I wish this video covered when and how to do that like the title suggests.
Awesome content Tom. I am consistently improving as a leader and Industry Pioneer thanks to this Hard Truth business education. Keep up the awesome work and I'll keep absorbing it all!!
I agree, know where your leads/prospects are coming from. Some sources give way more tire kickers than others. Keep track this to help narrow down and also locations you are successful in.
As a customer, it would be better if the contractors are more transparent in their pricing. Because, frankly, there are many contractors who are just out there trying to rip people off. I know enough to estimate the real cost of materials and labor for a job, and I can add a standard percentage to that figure for profit and overhead to calculate what a general "fair bid" price would be. And even add an additional premium to that for a contractor who is exceptional or niche, but frankly, the numbers have to add up. It's a waste of my time as well to spend a couple hours explaining all the details of what I need, and then the contractor sends me a super-inflated bid that I will immediately toss in the trash.
Love the shirt brother
Semper Fi brother
Your cover photo reminded me of my self when I was desperate for work lol
We've all been there

You really helped me be an offensive player in the construction game. Gave myself a 10 dollar an hour raise and the customer didn’t bat an eye.

Pre-Qualification process.... Write that 1000 more times Mr. McKenna !!!
What if your sub sees the price your charging on your website, and they want to get cute and start to charge you more to hire them?
Tom can you talk about business debt, vendor credit accounts, bankruptcy?
I think I have stumbled on a treasure content

Best of luck Raymond! Thanks for watching.
You are the man! Customers will ruin you running around, bids and proposals should have never gotten to the “free estimates “ bull shit!

I do some woodworking on the side and you are right about not following people who will not buy👊

Yes. Yes I am. Haha.

Exactly, spend the money where it works.

How do you know how to estimate? Just curious.
