In my brain/head I`m 25. My body however tells me a very different story. It says `grow up and stop acting your shoe size`. I`m 60, very broken physically and tired due to a lifetime of hard work. One thing though, I`m so glad I have lived the life I have in the time that I have. I`d hate to be young now.
Our generation ( I’m 68 ) may be the 1st to find we don’t want to be younger. If thats correct that is a bigger than life story. I wore that uniform AND was in the first group of women to be trained exactly like the men. Every thing they went through, we went through. Everything they were taught, we were taught. And boy were we hated !!!!! You see it was well into the Vietnam war, and the military was running out of men, so they started training women to take the MOS the heretofore only men could do, except full on combat. But we were trained right up to the line. Men saw us as taking the MOS that was non-combat and pushing more men into combat and the high potential of being killed. We understood that, believe me, we got it. Our Drill Sergeant was fresh from Vietnam and he hated us too. Training women who would never see combat, all withholding all the information and experience he could teach the men, hopefully keeping them safe. He used to call us “Laaaadies” as a slam. But when we graduated with very high grading, he took off the goddess Athena brass we wore on our dress greens and summer weight dress uniforms and put on U.S. Brass….. just like the men. And he told us, “Today you are no longer women, today you are Soldiers “. We won !!! He respected us, all the hard work, hiding our tears. BUT LET ME TELL YOU….. YES WE WERE SOLDIERS…..BUT WE NEVER STOPPED BEING WOMEN. It doesn’t matter what you do in life, you are still the “you” that you started out to be. I always find it amusing that people like this student are the gate keepers of what's allowed to be changed and what's not. If you say that you can't change your gender based on how you "feel", people like this student say you're bigoted. But if you "well can I change how old I am based on how I feel?" they say "Absolutely not, that's crazy." Why is it that what they say is allowed to be changed is acceptable, but other things are not acceptable.

Thank you..Thank you..Thank you Charlie. I am an old woman now, but when I was younger I served in the US Army, proudly. I wore that uniform AND was in the first group of women to be trained exactly like the men. Every thing they went through, we went through. Everything they were taught, we were taught. And boy were we hated !!!!! You see it was well into the Vietnam war, and the military was running out of men, so they started training women to take the MOS the heretofore only men could do, except full on combat. But we were trained right up to the line. Men saw us as taking the MOS that was non-combat and pushing more men into combat and the high potential of being killed. We understood that, believe me, we got it. Our Drill Sergeant was fresh from Vietnam and he hated us too. Training women who would never see combat, all withholding all the information and experience he could teach the men, hopefully keeping them safe. He used to call us “Laaaadies” as a slam. But when we graduated with very high grading, he took off the goddess Athena brass we wore on our dress greens and summer weight dress uniforms and put on U.S. Brass….. just like the men. And he told us, “Today you are no longer women, today you are Soldiers “. We won !!! He respected us, all the hard work, hiding our tears.
BUT LET ME TELL YOU….. YES WE WERE SOLDIERS…..BUT WE NEVER STOPPED BEING WOMEN. It doesn’t matter what you do in life, you are still the “you” that you started out to be. We started out as women, we finished as women….. just more dangerous 😊😊😊
