Sorry to run from topic. But I realized in the Daihatsu/Toyota/Perodua safety scandal, we barely hear any in depth commentary or review by prominent motor journalists like you or PT. While Daihatsu HQ being raided by the Japanese gov, it looks like business as usual here. Why is that? And it seems no body takes this as seriously as it should. Like PT always shout about ADAS or AACP in certain brands, in this issue bigger noise is needed. If not, Perodua or Daihatsu will always tongkat langit here in Malaysia, down playing safety issue and misdirect with other issues.
Looks like this Smart #1 is much more interesting than the Tesla Model 3. It has more features like gear/signal stalks, speedometer, heads-up display, sunroof with shade, full ADAS, a very good app with links to local chargers, etc. I think with all these features and conveniences, I am more convinced about getting this car instead of a Tesla if I am planning to get an EV. Tesla has a higher range and laminated glass all round but I think the range is sufficient for the Smart #1 and the sound-proofing is adequate enough.
Higher claimed WLTP range of 513km in the standard highland model, but it only shows about 422km in the car, that’s almost 20% down from what they claimed. I’m able to get 388km from my KL-Penang trip without needed to charge in between. That’s only 3% down from its 400km brabus version WLTP range
Our Malaysian cars brands Proton & Perodua can't even give some of the basic features as standard for their model , yet both of them have the guts to say they want to jump into electrification 👏👏😐 very smart Not to mention our Malaysia still lack the Charging Infrastructure for EVs, only a handful of places EV users are able to charge their cars😐
Dah masuk dan tengok, memang terbaik..iras² mini cooper buat yang tak prasan tapi besar..design dan rekaan luar dan dalaman memang fresh takde lah full AI sangat jadi memang best tambah² yang BRABUS..pehhhhh terliur aku tengok depan2..kalau yang #3 tu lagi lah padu.
If I'm into pure EV, I'd take this over Model 3 anyday. Nicer interior, dedicated instrument cluster. Alas, I'm more interested in the latest Toyota Prius that we don't get here.
I would not trust Toyota for EVs as the Japanese are not so interested in making EVs. Also, the Toyota BZ4X is quite a failure in overseas market. They are starting to discount the BZ4X in some market now.
@@xervexczymycur6226 Prius is a Hybrid, and it's a decades proven platform. Only recently it finally got a good design, bump-up in power output, and transitioned to PHEV. As for EV, I lean more towards Tesla, Hyundai, BYD, and just recently: Smart.
The biggest problem for me is the early adopter tax. What if the car ckd in next few years and you just spent more money on the cbu. Geely also building an ev assembly plant in 2025 or at least according to rumours
Currently CBU for EV has zero import duty and excise duty till 2025. More likely you'll pay more starting 2026 if manufacturers don't go into CKD route.
I'm really impressed with this EV, it really attractive. I've never owned Merc before, is there any chances that we might accidentally hit the gear selector for signal indicator?
@@johnmanders8512 I used to drive Japanese car and signal indicator is on the right. While driving I might accidentally hit right level for signal indicator (used to it). What will happen to the car? As I hit the gear selection instead.
What's with all these tesla fan boys comparing with a model 3. This is a suv/crossover. Better to compare this against a Hyundai ioniq 5. I sat in the model 3, sadly the ceiling is way too low and leg room wasn't ideal. While I prefer the model 3, the rear is a deal breaker for me as a family car. Where the smart is more practical esp with baby seats.
B4 Yr review, I was raving about this smart #1. Failings in model 3 like drive engagement, turn indicators, small speedometer readout(lack of driver's screen) are totally not acceptable for me. #1 has them covered. Babus version makes it the super hot hatch
Great little gimmick car. However, you really wouldn't want one of these in case say you had an emergency and suddenly had to make a run somewhere a few hundred KM away. This is why the ICE vehicles remain the most relevant, practical and yes, even the most ecological vehicles to use. The amount of environmental damage and carbon footprint of the production of EVs can only be offset by driving the EV for 10 years straight. Not to mention this calculation assumes you will be using the same batteries that came installed from factory... most of which do not last past 5 years.
As long as battery technology haven't moved out of Lithium. EV is still a rich man car. Sure you can buy the car, but replacing said battery is no joke.
@@souuya2534 of course, I talking about after that, let's say 7 years. How much will it cost you to replace the battery pack? It's gonna be expensive. These batteries won't get any cheaper because the materials needed are quite rare. Nickel specifically. And lithium recycling isn't exactly what you call "recycling".
Tesla has been ordered to recall effectively ALL vehicles it sold in the US following 2 year investigation by the NHTSA and nearly 1000 crashes - it's defective AP software is prone to abuse by drivers leading them to irresponsible behaviors like not paying attention on the road. Tesla is recalling a further 120000 vehicles over door safety issues during crashes. If you were shopping for a Tesla, this should seriously make you rethink your decision.

My Tesla M3 looks much better than this car. i went to penang and saw this car while charging my tesla at Smart showroom. it's expensive and has less battery range than Tesla. The design is funky and suitable for girls.
Tesla is boring😂kosong inside. Smaller battery but almost the same range as yours lol. Try real world range of these 2 cars, Smart might just lose like 20-30km of range. Tesla overpromised its range, hence why the lawsuit in overseas now. Our local owners are reporting almost 20% less than the claimed range here.
i travelled from KL to Penang in a single charge. Tesla software is few years ahead than anyone else. i used autopilot during heavy traffic and it worked so well.
Not at all. I drove it like how I drive all the cars for my reviews - exactly how I drive my own cars everyday. Follow the flow of traffic, mixed city, highways, everything in between

No reporting of the falsification by Daihatsu in local media.
Not the first time Japanese corporations have adopted this unethical practice
Sebab gomen nak protek P2
They cover it already from the beginning in their website. But I get your point that PT should also cover this news in all their platform.
i agree…pt usually take a bigger foot on safety…but a total silent on daihatsu fiasco…i think perodua take a ‘ugut’ approach…
People died in other brands too, just don’t drive too fast.

Im actually wondering how many batik shirts does Hafiz own?

11vs22kw charging doesnt make sense to most home charging, because you can never supply up to 22kw with 3-phase, which is 99% of all home chargers
