WONDERFUL! Thank you, Erica! This solves many problems related to sizing (elastic too short or not long enough) as well as washing (I've heard - not a known fact - that standard elastic may have difficulty keeping up with the sanitizing). And - as we have all pretty much wiped out every craft store in the US for elastic - this is timely and awesome!

I thought the fabric dimensions were a little small. My first mask came out child size. After that I started doing 8x9 to give me a little more play in the pleating and sewing shut.

I've watched several videos on how to make face masks and your instruction is by far the simplest method and nicest style. To save time, I used clothesline cords and lanyards that I had around the house for the ties. When I used everything I could find around my house, I bought several packages of shoelaces from the 99 cents store. Just another option for the ties. I am not much of a seamstress, but with your instruction, my face masks came out awesome. Giving them to my friends and the local fire station.

When I first started sewing face masks for people in my dept. at the hospital about a month ago, I looked for a tutorial that looked fairly easy. Yours was the best for my needs. I am churning these out as fast as I can with working full-time and working toward my bachelors degree. Only charging for the material to make them. I'm exhausted but have to say, I've rediscovered my love of sewing which had went by the wayside for a few years and am also learning different sewing habits/tips/hacks with each new mask I make. Thanks!

I brought home a sewing machine ( Singer circa 1982 ) from the dump a few years ago. I took a basic class and made a pillow two years ago. This is the first time since I've used the machine and even I managed to make a mask following this video! I think I even gained some confidence doing this. Thanks.

I'm a very beginner with my sewing machine (that I bought 2 years ago and haven't really used since!), and I was able to make my first mask today after confirming the fabric I have will work well. I'll be sewing them for lots of my family and friends now! So grateful for your video. Thanks again.

Wonderful tutorial. :) I made some of these for my nurse friend and she said these are about a size small. (She is a size large.) I will just make her some bigger ones, adding 2" to both the height and width. She said the idea is the sides go to the sideburn/hairline area and then also from the bridge of her nose to about where your chin doesn't move when you talk. I also sealed two unused twist ties in some tape and made a "crimpable" nose thing so it can seal better at the bridge of the nose. I slipped it in before I pleated, then used my topstitch to block it in.

My boyfriend loves this type of mask, I have made him a few and he always wears them, and I use a t shirt to make the ties!

Thank you Erica. I'm going to make some of these this afternoon. Seem a bit less time intensive than another pattern I tried.
