This song is also hard for Ashe too. You think he does easily in here because he lets the backing tracks do the high notes for him while he sings the lower melodies just like in Proxy. On the other hand, he struggles with Dan's high notes when singing Concealing Fate
He pretty much nailed it. Any vocalist will test their voice performing that live.
Well tbh, considering this was the last song. It must be tough to sing this song as hard as it is already on top of the fact you just sang a whole setlist, and probably got more shows coming up so he’s 1) tired 2) trying not to push it to much to save his voice for shows that came after
You can clearly see how Dan's struggling to hit the range on this song that was very clearly not written for his voice. He has an amazing range and it's unfortunate that people who see this live video will judge regardless.

the only reason people think Ashe has a higher range than Dan because he sounds more feminine, but their range isn't really that different at all. While Dan struggles with anything from Altered State, Ashe on the other hand struggles with Concealing Fate. So I don't think this has anything to do with the song being "not written for his voice" maybe he's just tired.
He can hit them, It's just the end of the set and he's exhausted. We put all our hard songs at the start of the set so I'm not struggling at the end. We have two songs in particular that a) must always be at the start, and b) if we play one, we can't play the other, because I won't get through them both!
The last few songs are all songs that people can sing along to so I can just hold the mic up and rest a bit lol
I'm sorry to admit this cause I love Dan, but this song was for Ashe.

+lord reyna (Lordreyna) I had heard that supposedly he just didn't get along with the band, there were also a lot of creative differences... Such as Ashe wanting to do a pop style kind of album and they didn't want that. As of right now I don't know what he's doing. You can check him out in Instagram though, I thinks @asheohara or something like that. TesseracT still follows him so just search through their list of people they're following.

I can't believe people are complaining about two small moments of less than perfection from Dan, on the hardest parts of this song, which wasn't written by him or for his voice, and as the last song of a set. I'd love to see people in this comments section sing a set of music at TesseracT's caliber, then try to go all out on this song as the set closer. Ignorance all around.

I don't know about the rest of the concert, but the singer in this song lose the tone several times, besides the general performance is not very good. That's a fact for anyone with good ear. Calling ignorant to everybody who can note this won't change that fact. And the excuse of the song not written for his voice is pointless. If you can't sing a song, then don't do it. Focus on the ones you actually can sing.
Im going to venture to say you're not a singer with the stuff you're trying to argue here.I can sing a fair amount of TesseracT's music actually, and it's really f*cking hard (ESPECIALLY this song). The "excuse" of the song not being written for his voice is a huge deal. Ashe and Dan have very different voices. Their vocal mechanisms are suited better for different things. This is by no means a great performance of Nocturne by Dan, but I've seen Ashe live and he was pretty disappointing all around.
You yourself said you don't know about the rest of the concert - well its on here so why don't you look it up? It was a damn strong performance by Dan. This show was at the end of a tour, and this song is EASILY one of the hardest in TesseracT's catalog, and it's at the end of a set. Dan only "messes up" on the high Ds in chorus, and when he goes into head voice it still sounds fine. He's trying not to destroy his voice by pushing too hard at the end of a tiring set. That would be like a guitarist digging in more with his fretting hand to deliver the same note just slightly more aggressively. It's literally pointless. Would you rather have him yell out the parts and destroy his voice and subsequently his career, or would you rather have him sing the actual parts, just in a easier and less taxing way. I pick the 2nd option 100% of the time. Fans and audience members are so damn ungrateful. You aren't owed a flawless performance every time, and if a performer has a choice between delivering a ridiculous show, or avoiding hurting themselves, they should choose not to hurt themselves.
I agree with you. I fucking hate when people use the "I'd like to see YOU do better" argument. If you like the performance, stop looking at the fucking comment section and enjoy the fucking song, knowutimsayn?

Just a couple parts early on sounded bad but that was because he accidentally pulled the mic too far from his face. The rest of the song sounds great, especially for live. He's got a great voice.

So many uneducated people slating the singing. This song was written for a previous vocalist who has a crazy high range. Dan has an incredible voice in his own right, and I think he does this song justice.

Man I don’t think he sounds bad here. He just sounds a bit fatigued. Like he said, this was their last song and there’s some crazy notes he’s gotta hit here, and after a full set I could see that being extremely difficult. He’s a good singer because he doesn’t push himself to sing a note he knows he won’t be able to hit, so he adapts and tries to do it in a way that won’t sound scuffed. If you wanna see Dan really belt the shit out of this song check out the portals performance. It’s better than the original recording imo.
Nailed it imo. Idk why people still compare the two. Ashe and Dan have different styles and are both insanely good. Just be glad Dan is even singing it and not just leaving it in the past for it to not be heard live again.

I went to see them play in the Apollo with Devin Townsend, Dan nailed this song much better then he has here, it's clear it's a lot to do with fatigue, though he can't hit Ashe's highs nearly as well, he has done this better. For the most part, it was pretty great to be honest, just one or two so so parts.

IMO his voice sounds tired and I think he should've focus more on the lower register in this song or try to scream/growl parts of it (not sure how Tesseract-y that would be). Ashe's highs are so clean, Dan is going to be always paler in comparison there. And yes, showmanship here or there, performance is first - he might've been better off trying to maintain a good stance instead of dancing around...

I don't get everyone complaining about his "shitty singing". It's Just Not shitty. Sure, some parts where he struggles a bit, but a really great performance all in all, also considering it's the last song of the Set and that Ashe wrote these vocals.
And by the way, I've watched some of Ashe's live Performances, and I can Not really say he did a better Job in his own stuff. ^^

It's strange this mix is so far off, I've seen Tesseact live 5 times now and this is the worst mix I've heard yet which is a real shame, it's hard to keep that stuff consistent which I understand but if I heard this I'd be disappointed. Best place I heard them at was Koko in 2016 when they released their album, that sounded INSANE. Last saw em at ATG ;)
why did ashe leave
There were a lot of creative differences between them. Ashe wanted to make them into a pop sounding band and they didn't want that. Also from jay himself he said that Ashe couldn't hold up to his singing live. Although it was ashes choice to leave I think he was kinda told to leave. They seem to be on good terms since they all follow him on social media.
I'm not saying Dan is bad by any means but to all of you saying Dan wasn't bad here; and that not even Ashe could sing it live. You are wrong:

People have got to stop mocking Dan for his vocal performance here, there are 3 possible reasons to why his vocals are not on par to what they usually are. 1. LOOK HOW MANY GOD DAMN PEOPLE THERE ARE HERE!!!, imagine the stage fright going on here, of course he is not going to perform like he would at a smaller venue. 2. Ashe has a naturally higher voice than Dan (I would say he is a counter-tenor, while Dan is a regular tenor), I'm surprised he has held up this well, instead of transposing all of the notes down. 3. This is most likely towards the end of a set, and the voice can get worn out quickly, someone who has no experience like Dan would barely last singing decently for 20 minutes at most. I'm still glad that there are singing vocalists out there instead of them all relying on screaming and growling because it doesn't require precise pitch coordination.
Ashe definitely isnt a countertenor. He just sounds like a normal high tenor.

Lorenzo Rodríguez ni tanto....si igual debe agotar y aburrir cantar los mismos temas casi un año poh...... y este man ni fuma a lo mas toma, y tiene excelente voz y le da clase a varios.
Igual hay que pensar que estos temas los grabo el vocalista anterior, un timbre y altura totalmente distinto a Dan, aun asi considerando eso, los canta casi perfect, a veces canta las lineas que armonizan porque las principales son muy chillonas, saludoss !
