Super Smash Bros. Brawl [Game Concepts]

- Опубліковано 21 жов 2024
- When I went independent, it put the future of the Smash series in question. I'll discuss how I came to assemble a team to make Smash Bros. Brawl another time, but today, I'd like to focus on the planning and game concepts that went into creating the game.
Brawl's theme still gives me goosebumps. Subspace Emissary was a once in a life time experience, I'm so glad it was able to be added to the game!
Audi famam illius!
Still the game I hold closest to my heart. A story:
It had only been a week or two since Brawl released, and I was at Gamestop with my mother. I'd been asking her about Melee often, as it was the main game we always used to play on our eldest brothers GC, and showed her that our Wii could play GameCube games. The 2 older half brothers moved on with life long ago, and the GC disappeared along with them. She eventually took me to get it. When we got to Gamestop, we found out they didn't carry Melee anymore, and they were also sold out of Brawl. The guy said he could order and save a copy of one for me, which would take a couple weeks, so it was a choice between ordering Melee or Brawl. The reasons of me wanting the old game back, and that I heard some buzz about how "Melee is better," I chose Melee. "Are you sure?" The child had his mind set on Melee, a couple weeks went by and the day arrived. We showed up to find out they had accidentally ordered Brawl instead. (I was like 7) Disappointed as I was handed Brawl, he apologized and said he could take it back and order again, but it'd be another 2 weeks. A few moments went by, I chose that, and again, "Are you sure?" After a good couple minutes of both the guy and my mother convincing me to take it because "it's the new one, and I didn't have to wait," I reluctantly took it home with us.
Omg, it was awesome. Me and my slightly older, actual brother played the hell out of that thing. We 100%'ed Subspace Emissary multiple times. We got every single sticker and trophy there was to get. We made so many ideas in stage builder. Our mother still *to this DAY* immediately recognizes the trophy gallery music from all the Summer's it was just left on LOL, my brother was obsessed with the collection.
To think all that stemmed from an accidental wrong order boggles me. I remember it all vividly now as I write this, I'm so happy I finally got the chance to pour it into a YT comment, even if it fades away in "The Sea" haha
Ultimate is great but, I kinda miss the throphies theme the series had...
That's wholesome ❤
This make me have pure serotonin
Dang, that's a good story.
It actually makes sense as to why Brawl was made slower and casual-friendly because of the Wii remote controls. I never considered that because I never used the sideways Wii remote lol
Yes I remember competetive melee players at that time thinking they understand smash better then sakurai and could design a better game. But they havnt considered Brawls design constraints at all and were soley looking at it from a tournament players perspective. It was like watching a bunch of couchpotatoes critizing professional athletes thinking they could do a better job just because they were watching the sport for long enough
@@southpaw3524Then PM went on to prove they could make a better smash. C'mon, different visions for different folks.
@@natethewerewolf It's really not at all an even comparison when you consider the circumstances. The people making PM would have base Brawl right there to start them off, that's a tremendous amount of work they didn't have to do themselves. They also didn't have to contend with third parties who'd have stock in the character representation or other such requirements and they had the freedom to ignore the vast majority of the original target audience and cater to a relatively tiny subset of primarily competitively-minded players, and so on. You literally just heard the man talk about all the things he had to keep in mind that the PM crew wouldn't need to so much as bat an eye at.
Not saying they didn't do an impressive amount of work of their own, but saying they "made a better game" is a pretty unfair way to represent the situation.
@@southpaw3524 I remember the E for All thread on Smashboards and Gimpyfish reporting that there was no wavedash or L-Canceling.
Cue the Smash community literally tearing in two.
@@natethewerewolf Yeah, better. =/
A bunch of narcissists who didn't consider what Smash Bros was about and cried because they didn't get Melee 2.0, when they were already not the target audience.
When brawl came out, some kids told me it was possible to unlock ridley and tabuu. I spent hundreds of hours trying to get them.
my cousin actually did unlock them,, you need to go online and win a game with every character without losing once, and then reset your game file and complete all the events without losing once. If you do that the game will unlock ridley and tabuu :D
@@Sponsie1000 I bet he didn't unlock sonic in meele though.
You have to get the perfect game(0 stocks lost, 0% taken) in under 40 seconds with every character to unlock him
Pshh!
No one knows about unlocking Funky Kong.
Wait, I've said too much
@@bluebaron6811 funky kong? Hah! No one knows how to unlock waluigi.
Wait uh the nintendo ninjas are knocking on my door
The days when I thought I could unlock shadow in brawl
The Subspace Emissary is still one of the greatest accomplishments in the industry, and the main reason I still come back to play Brawl every once and again.
I wish we could get more of that.
I wouldn't go that far
That's a big stretch, Subspace Emissary is fun, but it isn't perfect either.
I didn't say it was perfect, but it was a unique experience unlike any other that's been done since
@@stickfigure8416 it did gave off that impression. But no doubt it was a unique experience on it's own.
Hearing that they had to retool the characters so they "worked" for that mode and seeing the size of Ultinates roster, I kinda see why. I mourn what could've been, but yeah... I understand why.
I know a fair few things about Brawl are widely viewed as contentious, but I do think Brawl did a lot of good and interesting things. And hearing Mr. Sakurai elaborate on the circumstances and thought process does make it easier to understand why the game ended up the way it did, for better and worse both. Really interesting to hear about it. I never realised Subspace had adjusted fighter parameters from the rest of the game...
Can't wait to hear about Kid Icarus: Uprising! It's one of my favourite 3DS games!
it's only contentious in the competitive scene, simply because it was compared to Melee. Casuals are the real ones and I'm sure many of them would've said they liked it back then. It's casuals that continue the smash bros series, not the competitive scene, remember that. You won't see casuals on smash communities because it's the competitive ones that reign on social media.
The changes are noticeable if you played Peach. Her double jump was the worst in the game but in subspace it went triple the height of her normal double jump. Her up b also went higher. It was mostly buffed movement speed and jumps that changed.
@@RecordToDeathToBoredom "You won't see casuals on smash communities" what a miracle considering I've seen more of them than I've ever wanted to everywhere else
Yeah, Subspace Emissary does have differing fighter parameters. This is somewhat, but not as blatantly, carried over in Kid Icarus Uprising, where Pit has some different, usually better, parameters than the multiplayer fighters.
And yeah, hopefully Smash Creator does cover about the Power system.
Also, I seem to recognize you, Laggolot. Though it's likely you're commonly early commenting on Smash Creator's videos.
I never knew they had different parameters either. Ive never seen anyone mention that before 😂
Oh my god Sakurai even talks about Hax$'s hand exploding
My appreciation of this video is immense, genuine and from the heart. I love this video.
WHAT whos hand exploded
@@pinata1368 Melee professional Hax$. He mains Fox so the combination of high actions per minute to execute Fox's tech, plus the design of the GameCube controller, lead to hand injuries that left him unable to continue playing. He went on to develop his own controller that would allow him to continue playing though, called the B0XX. Fairly popular style of controller for Melee these days
Melee is sick but the GameCube controller just isn't ergonomic at that level of execution
It's hard to believe that Brawl is 15 years old this year. I still remember how much it changed the Flash Animatiom community when I was a little kid first discovering UA-cam.
How time flies...
So many animations and Machinimas…
The fallout from E3 2006 and the Smash Brawl reveal was some of the most excited I've ever been in my life. I miss the summer of 2006 when my teen mind went wild with imagination and unrealistic roster predictions...which in hindsight are now crazy since Ultimate has now fulfilled so many fan requests. The discourse around this game was also when I first heard about Sakurai and paid attention to who he was.
I vividly remember coming back from school, excited to check out the Smash Dojo's daily updates. I nearly screamed when they announced Sonic! It was my (and most people's) first choice for a third-party character. It really felt like it was going to be the best game ever.
I am 100% with you. Ultimate and maybe even Melee are the better games. But Brawl's E3 2006 reveal and the payoff when I first played it day 1 somehow managed to go above my expectations. This game was the first game ever to make me feel truly fulfilled. It stands as my fav of all time for that reason alone
Brawl will always be my favorite because of this magical time. It really felt like a dream come true in every way.
E3 2006 was 🔥🔥🔥
the Smash Bros. Dojo, a.k.a. "Japan Time" and its memes...dreaming of what kind of matches I could have online, having recently done more PC gaming...the pages and pages of debates on GameFAQs before it came out...October 10th, 2007, an announcement that made me so happy it stayed with me the whole day and made me felt like I could run the track in gym class in half the time...the memories.
Sakurai really out here dodging the tripping allegations
This game was my introduction to not just Super Smash Bros., but most Nintendo series too. It is a game I still love to play to this day, thank you so much to everyone who worked on it.
Same!!!
Ditto on that! Back when I played, the only series I knew at the time was Mario, Sonic, and Pokemon.
I still won't forgive Brawl for spoiling the Shiekh-Zelda transformation haha
Goated game tho
There are a ton of games I would have never known the existence if Smash Bros never existed, especially Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Kingdom Hearts, Persona and Fallout.
I sure do love Smash Browl
frfr
ofc, the most famous entry
Best game bruh.
This joke is now obsolete, they changed the title!
The fan favorite
Looking back, of all the Smash games made thus far, Brawl has the best Casual/Single-player content. The Subspace Emissary was the best part of the game, loved the dramatic scenarios, and it was fun to play it with my bros. ^^
Reading "conversation for another time" more than once already has me extremelly intrigued, this one's development is pretty interesting.
maybe it'll be a different video then but i'm surprised the dojo wasn't brought up at all. waking up nearly every morning and rushing to the smash bros website to see if there was a new character, only to see it was about an item or something simple yet charmingly worded, amazing times.
checking at 3 in the morning october 10, 2007 was magical
Who was announced then?
@@BJGvideos that was the sonic announcement. october in general was a really good announcement month for brawl, also got lucas and dedede then iirc
@@coneg2714 Awesome. Yeah I loved that site so much and I didn't even have a Wii yet
In some way it wasn’t new for him, as the other games had websites with info. But this was definitely the first global one, and with daily news.
I remember all types of announcements.
Delfino Plaza.
Zelda being the first character to be announced exclusively through the dojo.
Ike being the first newcomer to be announced exclusively through the dojo.
Online play being the 100th announcement.
Sakurai's Dojo blog was a massive hype train. I hope someone recaptures that magic in their marketing someday.
6:38 I got emotional and nostalgic when the theme started playing after that pause
Thank you, Sakurai! ❤
Dude, same
Hard to top that theme.
RIGHT!?
WHAT AN ENDING for the video.
Chills every time, nothing can compare to a main theme that beautiful and nostalgic to us 2000s people
i’ll always believe that brawl is the game with the most personality
Indeed it was. The realistic/detailed aesthetic, the modes, the main theme, it all gave this feeling that you were participating in a massive event unlike any other.
Subspace alone gives it replayability.
Yes it stands out so much to me because of it's realistic esque textures. It's really a gorgeous game and the soundtrack is hands down the best in the series. Of course it doesn't have a lot compared to ultimate but it was amazing at the time. With the introduction of sonic and snake anything seemed possible. Since it was seen as the last game at one point it has a lot of care put into it. Don't even get me started on Subspace. Amazing until the end. Maze was iffy. So was competitive but it didn't matter when I was younger
@@jackflynn412 I thought I was the only one
@@admiralAlfonso9001 Glad to see another Brawl fan. I think people just overhate it because it's bad competitively. The rest of the game is perfect.
@@jackflynn412 wtf no subspace emissary is bored asf
I've been waiting for this one! Thanks so much, Sakurai-san!!!
I loved Subspace Emissary it was a fun way to have the characters interact with each other. It’s sad we won’t see it anymore because with the current roster smash could have been bigger with a story mode
As much as I would have liked a story mode like the SE in Ultimate, that sounds a lot harder to execute precisely due to the reason you mentioned: the roster is bigger than ever. Having to make multiple cutscenes and stages that surrounds all characters sounds like a very daunting task to do, due to all characters getting all their moments to shine.
@@Leee275 Which is especially hard considering that Subspace already had to shaft some characters. Jigglypuff, Toon Link and Wolf were probably delegated to extra unlockable characters because they were added so late in development, same witg Sonic only showing up at the last possible second, but even characters like the Ice Climbers have like 1 relevant cutscene. It worked fine for Brawl, but now imagine that with a roster 2,5x bigger and now it's incredibly hard to make a satisfying story mode balancing literally everyone.
@@gerriehetschaap1854 I feel as some people complaining about WoL think games are done by pressing a single button and that every bad things the game has are intentional.
@@gerriehetschaap1854 I think it could be done though. It would just be HUGE
I suppose it could be done if the story was dumped down to a minimum like in Ultimate, but with a level style and bosses like Melee and Brawl.
"Audi famam, illius"
I waited for this video since the beginning of this channel! "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" is one of my favourite games of all time and a major part of my childhood. I cannot thank you enough for this game, Sakurai-san!
I poured so many hours into Brawl when I was younger. The story mode, especially, was something I replayed more times than I can count. Ultimate is the culmination of the Smash franchise, but Brawl feels like it really cemented the identity of the series.
You could tell a lot of thought went into The Subspace Emissary. It was an amazing mode to play and getting so many awesome cut-scene movies with all the characters throughout made it 100x better. Thank you again!
The way this video ends is genuinely perfection, and so was the opening theme for this game.
I am huge Smash and Metal Gear Solid fan. You can't imagine the hype I felt when Snake came out of that Box. I couldn't sleep that night and my finals test to access Collage were the next day.
I had to make them sleepless, still made though.
Nice job lol
If it weren't for Brawl and Ultimate, I wouldn't be a Metal Gear fan. I just finished 4 last night. I still need to play 3 and the PSP ones though
All the hard work that went on to make Brawl cannot go unnoticed. I'll never forget that sensation of beating The Subspace Emissary late at night.
still my fave "all in one package" smash game to date. thank you mr sakurai for the incredible childhood :)
I never knew Sakurai was solely in charge of all character parameters... That is mind blowing. The time it takes to playtest & tweak just one character... one of the greatest designers of all time.
Makes sense that the character balance is so wacky lol. judging character parameters for two different systems for a cast so big by yourself is insane.
It's no wonder that he got a team to work on character balance for Smash 4, after this experience.
Thanks a lot for your dedication and effort, Mr. Sakurai. You created one of Gaming's greatest franchises, we truly are grateful for everything you have done.
Sakurai you are a legend among game directors! Your dedication to quality and ability to direct an idea from concept to life again and again...true master of the craft. Thank you for bringing millions of people together through your games
He have the expirience the determination and tge approach not much else to say
The intro/ending choir still brings me to tears this very day. Noticed it when I booted the game on my old Wii while testing it for an eventual sale. The emotion just hit me like a tidal wave. Thank you for this Sakurai-san, others might prefer Melee or Ultimate, but Brawl will forever remain my favorite ❤
Brawl is just something special for most of the people who played it. The story, the Soundtrack! The characters, the collectibles, the masterpieces. The smash that still evolving it.
I love how the video ends with the amazing main theme.
Brawl introduced Lucas and Mother 3 to audiences outside Japan, just another reason why it's a great entry in the Smash series
Lucas was my main and got me interested into the Earthbound games. Learing that it was pretty much impossible to play them legitimately back then was sad to hear. At least it's on Switch now
@@tommymaxey2665 Mother 3 is on Switch now?!
Wow, I am outdated. 😅
And Roy from Fire Emblem
My first Smash Bros.
If I had not seen the awesome gameplay videos back in the early years of UA-cam, I would not have considered getting Brawl for my Wii, and introduce me to the many iconic franchises like Kid Icarus and Metal Gear.
Truly a pivotal moment in my gaming career. Thank you, Sakurai-san.
I loved so many things about this video. The commitment to work on a feature and championing it even if your first impression is not positive, the dedication to work on the low-level stuff even being the most senior designer of the team, and the description of all the small details that had a huge impact on the gameplay. What a legend!
I love how honest you were with explaining some of the flaws some people think the game has.
You and this franchise have had a bigger impact on my life than you can imagine, and if I had to call anyone my hero, it’d be you. We love you, Sakurai.
This was my first ever Smash Bros game
I hope an adventure mode like Subspace returns one day, it’s my favourite thing in the entire series. The character interactions in the cutscenes as well as the gameplay were amazing.
Brawl was my first Smash game. Had so many memories with that, nothing beats going over to a friend's house and doing multiplayer Brawls while that fifth player sits out and watches lol
*browls
They actually had a mode for that too. Players can swap out based on criteria, and the game calculates who’s next for you
That game was awesome, and my friend always likes to come hang out with me to play it.
Brawl must be the one I spent the most hours playing. Such a great game! And now, my brother has taken up my legacy playing Ultimate a lot
When Meta Knight, Marth and Ike teamed up in SSE, I thought it was the coolest thing I had every seen as a kid. It's still pretty cool today 😅
Many of my friends and animators wouldn't have met and gotten into making our own videos had it not been for Smash Bros Brawl.
On behalf of all of them, thank you, Mr. Sakurai.
Sometimes I forget just how significant Sonic's reveal in this game was. (and also Snake, but I wasn't into Metal Gear then)
Makes sense because Metal Gear is an M-Rated Game, and Snake is the first character from an M-Rated Game.
Brawl is what introduced me to smash and will always be special to me. Thank you for building this series that let me create so many fun memories with friends, even to this day!
I hope if they ever make a new smash game brothers they just make subspace emissary it’s own game. I feel you can’t advance the smash bros formula significantly at this point if a new one were made outside of a couple minor things.
I always felt like a Smash Bros game which isn't a platform fighter would be interesting. Something like an action RPG that attempts to tell a great story with many characters which cross over would definitely be interesting. It would also take away the pressure of being better than Ultimate.
@@italolxd3128basically taking the Kingdom Hearts approach to it. Honestly, I’d love to see it
My only guess that somehow smash 6 gonna be the first 3D platform fighter but I highly doubt if this gonna be the case
@@italolxd3128 I also imagine an action RPG engine can probably support multiple genres at once similar to how the bayonetta games do it when they decide it should randomly be a shooter game.
So Project Cross Zone but for Smash Bros?
I never managed to play Brawl but one thing i did was watching the Subspace Emissary's cutscenes and gameplays of other players and hearing the incredible soundtrack, which they got me to love the game very much
Brawl may not be the best smash game, but for many of us, it's the smash game of our childhoods. Also, I think I speak for many when I say that it has the best opening in the series BY A LOT.
I'll never forget all the memories I had playing this game with family, friends, and others online. The soundtrack, characters, collectables, modes, and more all made it a great experience that I look back on fondly. Thank you for all your hard work Sakurai!
The Subspace Emissary was absolutely fantastic. I have to congratulate you on it even though it’s been 16 years since it released, it’s still the best Smash mode ever released, in my opinion.
that special version of the video ending hit me. Brawl is one of the most important games in my life, as it is for a lot of other people, thank you Sakurai!
I want to say this as respectfully as possible and keeping in mind my gratitude for Mr. Sakurai's work. It's regarding what he said about online play and Smash not being a good fit for each other.
While I agree his concerns for people feeling bad because of online play are legitimate, I think he may not have tackled that problem from the right angle. I say that because--
*The frustration I get from losing at offline tournaments is infinitely smaller than the frustration I feel after playing online--even if I end up winning the match. That is because I always feel like I'm battling against the online netcode, and not against my opponent.*
If the concern really is about making players feel less frustrated when playing online, a modern netcode (rollback) is the only way to achieve that.
Sakurai’s views on the downsides of competitive online spirit make a lot of sense why it’s never really been a focus and are consistent with what he said about smash’s original concept in the first place. A fighter where fun is the focus no matter who you are. I respect it. (though I’d still love rollback lol)
Best theme song to a video game. And Subspace Emissary will ALWAYS be one of the best modes in any Smash game
I don't remember too many games from my childhood that well, but I will ALWAYS remember my time with Brawl. Having fun playing around with characters like Ness, Link, etc., admiring the beautiful stages, getting terrified by the marionette enemies in Subspace, it was great.
4:50 Had to do a double take when I saw "God Hand" listed as a credit in an official Sakurai video. That made my day.
Brawl was one of the first Video games I’ve played and Subspace Emissary was the first game I beat on my own. Thank You Sakurai for all the great memories you helped create!
I know the core game mechanics weren't everyone's cup of tea but you have to hand it to Brawl for expanding the series with such a massive scope - from an ambitious single-player campaign, an expanded roster with more newcomers than ever (including third parties!), boss battles, the vault, the soundtrack - the game truly felt like the biggest Nintendo had ever produced, with a seemingly endless amount of content and replayability. I mean hell, there was a mode dedicated to trying out the original games from each series and chronicling every Nintendo release ever up to that point. Brawl was the complete package, and I don't think another release has ever quite matched it in terms of cohesiveness. Massive respect to Sakurai and his team.
Happy 15th Anniversary to Super Smash Bros Brawl! I never really kept up with its hype cycle and wasn’t too big into it as a kid but I did always wonder if there would be another Smash Game after Melee, I first found out about Brawl via a Classic Mode playthrough on IGN or Gamespot, it was one of the two, with the way Sakurai describes it it’s very apparent they put a lot of love and passion into Brawl, Sakurai forgot to mention other new additions such as Coin Launcher, Stage Builder, Chronicle, Masterpieces and being able to take snapshots at any time, back in Melee, the only way to take snapshots is on a separate mode in Special Melee. And last but not least the legendary thing everyone loves
Tripping🤭
This has been a fantastic presentation and gave me a lot of appreciation for the amount of dedication that was done for Super Smash Bros Brawl.
This game was such a massive part of my childhood. I can't express that enough. It will always have a special place in my heart.
Masahiro Sakurai, I just wanted to say thanks for creating one of the reasons that I´m happy today, I love Super Smash and Brawl is just amazing
There will never ever be a Crossover event Feature film experience as good as The Subspace Emissary ever again. It cannot be topped. Every scene is brilliant.
The best scene of course is when everyone bands together in their ships to fight against Bowser & Ganondorf, and the theme song kicks in. Chills absolutely every time.
The time between E3 announcement and release in Europe were the longest two years in my life.
Brawl will always have a special place in my heart. Subspace Emissary alone makes this my favorite Super Smash Bros. game.
I remember going to the midnight release for Brawl. The anticipation for it was agonizing as it had been such a long time since Melee. It was well worth the wait.
Subspace was absolutely incredible for me. To reveal my age a little it was one of the first big games I had and I loved it to bits. I had well over 12 separate playthroughs.
I know it took a ton of work to make Subspace Emissary, but it was absolutely worth it. What a cool mode. All those cinematics were so exciting as a kid, seeing all those characters interacting like that.
Brawl was my first entry, you and your team did an incredible job creating such an amazing experience, thank you
It was the most grandiose game of all time, and I loved it. Thank you so much for creating it
I love this game and it’s also the game with an epic story mode hell yeah
I made most of my first online friends through Brawl's online back in 2008/2009. Brawl is so nostalgic...
"We wanted to give each of the characters their own unique Final Smash"
Fox, Falco, and Wolf: LANDMASTER!!!
Thank you, Sakurai. You created a significant part of my childhood.
when brawl came out, i remember how the internet went crazy when they saw Sonic join the roaster, it was a dream come true, thanks again to share this with us Sakurai!
Smash Brawl was a great game. Especially with The Subspace Emissary Story Mode in it.😄
Brawl was part of my childhood, when i became a teen it was still part of my life. Brawl holds a special place in my heart. The best game i've ever played
But look! Nearly 20 years later, you inspired one of the greatest UA-cam animations ever! Let's Go, TerminalMontage!
Then in 2019, we got Mario Vs Fox. Finally in 2021, we got The Subspace Emissary! Both of which you inspired! Thank you, Sakurai!
I especially like the Subspace Emissary.
Playing it on Extreme difficulty or whatever the highest one is rather fun, it's like "What if Kirby was actually hard?" x)
4:12 I really thought we were going to get the behind-the-scenes on Luigi's Brawl final smash for a second, or maybe that's wishful thinking😅
Either way, thank you Sakurai for continuing to make these! It's always a blessing to hear perspectives from people in the industry, especially those as experienced as you😁
Ha ha, the way it was edited made me think the same thing about showing Luigi's final smash.
Here's the Trophy description, if you don't remember it:
Negative Zone:
Luigi's Final Smash. As exotic music plays, he performs a dance befitting a sorcerous incantation. A barrier envelops him, negatively impacting all in his area. Random effects include getting launched, sleeping, moving in slow motion, tripping, fainting, and losing attack power. This technique is a reflection of the dark side he embraced in his brother's shadow.
Subspace Emissary will always remain as one of my greatest childhood memories
And that is why Brawl will always be my favorite! Besides Ultimate 😅
I can remember checking the smash Dojo everyday for the latest update as a kid, always really looked forward to it. Thank you Sakurai & the team.
5:21 He finally did it. He answered the 22+ year old question.
After hearing his bit about Melee's top heavy game design I appreciate brawl a little bit more.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a game that is super important to me personally, as it introduced me to so many video game characters that I otherwise wouldn't recognize at first from their home games. It even introduced me to some that would go on to become my favorites, like with Kirby for example!
This is one reason why I love Smash; while the discourse surrounding which fighters even deserve to be playable is genuinely tiring, seeing unexpected faces join the roster to an audience unfamiliar to them is always a sight to behold, and they can even incentivize others to check out their home series and see what they're all about over there. Everyone's got a favorite fighter, no matter their playstyle or background!
I can't thank you enough for this, Mr. Sakurai. Not just for me, but for previous and future generations as well. No matter what, I will always appreciate Super Smash Bros. Brawl for everything it set out to do.
Loved catching bosses as trophies in Subspace
Yeah, I... totally finished that collection...
[cries in Meta Ridley]
I still have my Brawl copy and the CD case has been signed by Charles Martinet almost 10 years ago. Still one of my most prized gaming possessions. Thank you for the hard work you put in Mr. Sakurai.
The greatest Smash ever made. The one with enough single player content to feel like a separate game. It was perfect, down to the last detail.
My favorite new inclusion for brawl was the my music, having the option to adjust a selection of songs at your liking with the fact more remixes (some of my favorites) were added was a huge aspect to me. It was also a cool detail that we have sakurai explaining why brawl is more slower than previous entries
I'm surprised he didn't mention Smash Bros Dojo and how Sonic's reveal broke the internet! I have great memories from this game~ Thank you Sakurai!
These videos are primarily from Sakurai's perspective, and like he said, Sonic's inclusion was just business as usual.
You know how much I am thankful for you Sakurai and your team, since this is my favorite Smash game for many reasons. Characters, soundtrack, backgrounds, artwork, etc.
I was in a really dark place in my life before this game came out. One of the things that kept me going was that I looked forward to play the game. I'm grateful for it.
Legendary game to a legendary series, Brawl will always hold a special place in my heart.
So hype for the next episode, I love Kid Icarus : Uprising, I hope we will see some kind of remake/sequel of Kid Icarus one day
(even though I think M. Sakurai once said he believes everything about that licence had been told, that's a bit sad)
Well, enough people are requesting for a remaster that will improve the controls. I made my own post recently about KIU's controls that can be found on my Community Tab.
After watching this video, in this game Sakurai included several of my favorite features in the series. I will always have a good memory playing this game with all the characters.
Sakurai: "I wanted every character to share in the spotlight"
Sonic: ☹️
While that is true, it's well known that some fighters were added last second; besides Sonic, there were also the 3 hidden characters (Toon Link, Wolf, Jigglypuff) who barely made it in.
Too be fair, Sonic had one of the most badass introductions. Damaging the final boss and preventing the destruction of everything and everyone.
Brawl was my childhood.
Thanks for “developing” it
Extremely excited to hear about Uprising
You're not the only one. I'm wondering how many of the points involved with the post titled "Clubs in Kid Icarus Uprising VS Heavies in Smash Bros." will be involved.
It was fun playing this game, especially Subspace Emissary. Thank you for putting in a lot of work in this game. It was my favorite childhood game.
you're being too hard on yourself sakurai! thank you for your work!!! i love smash bros so much, and kirby too
Brawl is the reason I got into Smash Bros. I'd say all the work into designing the game for a Wii audience paid off perfectly!
Nowadays this game is mostly known for it being the game where your character randomly trips for no reason.
I never had this happen to me. I don't understand what that talk is about
@@MrBrax It's very rare, but when it happens, you will notice it very clearly and it's painful.
@@AsianRailgun huh, even multiple hundreds of hours rare?
I’m not sure if it happened outside of versus/multiplayer, so maybe you didn’t see it if you just played subspace emissary?
@@austinnelson9024 never played subspace haha
I remember facing my childhood friend in Brawl and thinking how crazy it would be for Solid Snake to fight crazy characters like Mega Man, Sora and Ridley.
As a Kingdom Hearts fan, thanks for making my childhood dreams come true Sakurai.
