A friend of mine, who is a game programmer, once told me that the most impressive part of smash bros was how they managed to compress that much content in such a limited space. 16 GB? Unbelievable
by today standard, it should be 50GB or more for sure.. I really impress how Nintendo games usually 5-6 GB but full of contents.. just look at other fighting games.. even KOF need 60GB if im not mistaken..
I wish there were more devs like Nintendo. Seems like no other dev these days bothers compressing their games. I don’t have unlimited hard drive space, guys…
@@morayfryei feel this kinda stems from history, nes, snes, and n64 all had limeted space esspecly compared to the cd format playstation used. gamecube used mini discs wich could hold less then full sized. wii used dvd like format and wiiu used blueray like but both came at a time when those were syarting to be phased out (dvds to blue rays and bluerays to digital) and now the switch wich while haveing a bigger online store then has nintendo ever had the phisical part went back to cartidges wich while being bigger in size then ever are still expensive to make compared to discs and only get more expensive based of the size (cartidges come in 1gb,2gb,4gb,8,16,32 and i think 64gb modles). ever wonder why the phisical megaman legacy collection release has a phiscal copy of 1 and a download code for 2 its so capcom only had to use cheeper 1gb cartridges rather then the 2gb ones(also at the time of its release you condnt have 2 games on one cartidge like you can now and capcome probly thout it wasnt worth the effort coding them into one game with a selection screen)
@@curlybrace4984 Nintendo's devs are good because they have to, they always worked on outdated hardware so they've adapted for it, which results in top notch optimisation (most of the time... looking at you, pokemon...)
I still remember the absolute CHILLS and hype I felt when that full picture expanded and the text "EVERYONE IS HERE" appeared on screen. Was an incredible moment.
It’s absolutely wild thinking that the plan all along with the Smash 4 DLC was “Everyone is Here”. It was right in front of us - we just couldn’t see it!
The success of Smash Ultimate speaks not only to Sakurai's dedication but also Mr. Iwata's as well. His passion and hard work is still resounding well after his passing. How luck are we to have both of them in our lives.
And yet, the only thing thati can i say is: Thank you Mr Sakurai and your team as well, you clearly made Mr Iwata's last mission became a reality and overcome that difficult time to give us the best.
@@rodondendronhe hasn’t recorded new lines for smash since Brawl. The award counts his lines being re-used. It was also basically created for him, since there was no previous record holder
That throwback to the Smash 64 roster made me smile. The Original 12 have been around since the very beginning and they're a testament to the franchise's evolution.
Every time I boot up Ultimate I have to remind myself that I can fight Banjo-Kazooie and Joker with Sora. This game shouldn't be real but it is. Thanks to you and the whole team, Sakurai-san
When the first trailer in March came out, I thought it was just a deluxe Switch version of Smash for 3DS and Wii U with a tiny amount of added fighters, like Inkling and Ice Climbers. I never expected what would happen next. Every single veteran returning, Ridley, Simon, K.Rool, Banjo, Steve, Sephiroth, Sora... Sometimes I look back and it sinks in again how surreal it was to have experienced this game and roster. I'm not expecting anything of this magnitude to happen again in my lifetime.
Honestly i never understood how people thought Ultimate would be an enhanced port. No game company with any foresight would put so much hype on something which would turn out to be a port.
@@Eichro To be fair, it was understandable given how at the time they confirmed it was coming out in 2018. Keep in mind, at that point in time, it had barely been 2 years since Smash Bros 4 wrapped up and considering how long it took at make past Smash Games, the most rational mindset at the time did seem to be that it was an enhanced port. And to be honest, while clearly a new game, SSBU is a port in the sense of reused assets. Past Smash Games always remade everything from scratch but with SSBU they did reuse a ton from SSB4. Obviously now we have the power of hindsight but at that point in time it did seem like a reasonable assumption. Just to clarify; I am NOT saying SSBU is an enhanced port, I know it's not, I'm saying it is strictly in the sense of them reusing assets.
@@TheGamersState Sure, we can tell it has more in common with the previous entry than any other two games in the series, but Smash fans are already accostumed to the next entry in the franchise to be a massive leap from the previous one (regardless of it being a good or bad leap), and Ultimate was marketed as a new entry since day one. Even considering the shorter development cycle, I don't think it was all that reasonable to assume it was not going to be a really new game.
Sakurai, you did more than succeed with making people happy with this game, you practically changed some people’s lives, especially mine. This game means so much to me. I’ve made so many memories with it. I find it pretty difficult for any other game I play to have as much passion, effort, ingenuity and overall experimentation than Ultimate. Fantastic job all around!
The amount of content crammed into this game really can't be understated. It's, perhaps, the quintessential multiplayer party game experience. A bit of a shame that because of that the 1P side modes don't quite reach the heights of the previous games, but I suppose they never really were the big draw of Smash anyway. See you on the next game project, whenever that ends up happening!
The 1P modes would if they had more substance to them like character specific endings in the forms of cutscenes, and interesting lore within their campaigns to compel people to play through them all, just as Tekken 7 & 8 did with their character chapters, 8 more enhanced with endings being full blown cutscenes that enhances each fighter, and gives a clue as to their motives and ultimate goal that could be reached as what Mortal Kombat did with some of their character ending they’d go on to make canon and explore in depth.
@@NhBlekeras cool as that idea is, I think there were 2 very important reasons why Smash never did that in years: roster size and guidelines. The obvious one, the roster is HUGE, and considering how hard those cutscenes would be to make, maybe it needs too much effort. The next one is complicated so let me explain: Nintendo only fully owns 45 out of the 89 characters in the roster. If you do not fully own a character or do not own it at all, you need the approval of the other copyright holder to do certain stuff. That includes what the character does, how do they interact with the rest of the cast, and even which character can they interact with (they can say for exanple "I don't want Snake to get near a Pokemon character", I'm being dead serious). This is why making a story with various characters involved is tricky, cause the companies need to agree about some interactions. The fact that we got The Subspace Emmisary in Brawl and fighter reveal trailers since Smash 4 is a miracle. And Subspace story is...flawed, although still cool, and the reveal trailers' quality varies. We can get Byleth's trailer who doesn't feature anything other than Fire Emblem, but we also get Mario and Sora shaking hands, it varies.
I know I do not speak for everyone, especially those who aren’t aware of game development, but just know we appreciate all the hard work you and your team put into what can only be seen as a labor of love and passion to not just Nintendo, not just the gaming industry, but also to the great man that is Satoru Iwata. To say he would be proud of what you have all done, especially in the wake of a pandemic, is a massive understatement. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Mr. Sakurai. Whatever the future holds for you and all the hardworking developers you worked with, know that we will always support you and wish you all the best!
Every Smash title has had its own essence and has brought us a lot of fun. Mr. Sakurai's work has such quality it is unbelievable. As many of us, I would like to use this little internet space to thank mr. Sakurai and all his development teams for their massive effort and to recognize their unmatched talent as well. Without a doubt, I can say your work have made a valuable impact to the world. ほんとに ありがと ございます. Saludos desde México.
What a journey. Back when the game still had stuff coming out, I'd never imagined we would have Sakurai talking about it's development on his own YT channel a few years down the road. Seriously, try to tell that to someone in mid 2018, they would've called you beyond crazy. I love this!
It's an interesting feeling that there probably won't be another Game Concepts video until another project is released, which would be far, _far_ in the future, if at all This was a fascinating deep dive and look back into your game development history Sakurai-san, and I greatly appreciate you sharing it with me and "everyone (who) is here" 😁
Smash Ultimate may not be the best game ever made, but it's certainly the MOST game ever made. The fact that it actually exists still boggles my mind and it is an incredible achievement in gaming history. Just getting all those characters and series into it alone is astounding, and wrapping it up such a jam-packed experience is unbelievable. Bravo to everyone involved, and my condolences to the people who'll have to follow up on it...
man thank you so much for working so hard, im 27 born in 96 and as a kid smash for N64 was my favorite game, I still remember the release date for brawl I would go on smash dojo every day, and now smash ultimate really helped me get out of a depression during 2020 giving me something fun to practice vs "important" adult tasks and skills
Dude, Sakurai’s raw dedication to his work is so incredibly unmatched. Ultimate is such a behemoth of a game because of the effort he put in, and we’ll be sure to cherish it for a long time coming
I'm not someone that plays fighting games, but Smash Ultimate is the sole exception. I remember when I preordered it a week before it's release, all the trailers, all the DLC. But what I hold most dear is the memories I have with it. I would play it every day at school whenever I had free time with my huge friend group. It was so fucking fun. Sadly though, all good things must come to an end, and now, here I am, 5 years later in college, I don't talk to most of those friends, and I rarely play the game now. However, this game is one of the few that's made me feel this way, and because of that, I got to say... Thank you, Sakurai. Not only for making this game, but for creating an opportunity for me to talk with some of the best friends I've ever metin this life. Thank you for everything, and I'll continue to support your career until it ends :)
I can’t even begin to explain what a fun ride it has been from the announcement in March of 2018, to Sora’s release at the end of 2021. It was one heck of a build up that will probably never be duplicated ever again. Thank you Sakurai
It was always funny how iwata would announce smash during the wii e3 before it was even in development. That guy was such an amazing man , even taking a cut on his payroll to save tons of people's jobs. The story of a great man.
Wow, what a story. I know it's been hard work, but I'm happy to say that it all worked out. The morning Sora was announced, I was ecstatic. I had to cover my mouth though because everyone else was sleeping. My response was pretty muffled but I was like: "SORA! IT'S SORA!" I saw everyone else's reaction and they were pretty much on the same level if not more.
Let's also give a shout out to the various legal teams, the unsung heroes of these types of collaborations. Securing worldwide rights to use something as "simple" as the Mickey Mouse icon or a piece of Final Fantasy music is not an easy task. Just compiling a list of the rights holders in each region of the world to a forty year old piece of music from an NES game just to play when Balloon Fighter pops up for a couple of seconds is a Hurculean task in itself.
He originally wasn't going to. Fighters Pass Volume 2 originally only had five fighters (six if you include Mythra). But then, at Tokyo Game Show, while Sakurai won an award for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he had a chance encounter with a Disney executive, and informally asked if adding Sora to Smash were possible. He expected to be shot down, but surprisingly, the Disney executive was actually quite interested, and that got the ball rolling to add one last slot to the DLC. One other fun bit of trivia about Sora: when he was added to the game, he didn't bring Donald and Goofy, or any Disney stuff with him. A lot of people seem to think that this was because Disney wouldn't let Nintendo use them. But that's actually not true. Choosing to omit Donald and Goofy was Sakurai's decision. He believed that the Super Smash Bros. series was meant to be a celebration of gaming history, with characters from video games, not characters from film. So he chose to leave out the Disney stuff.
that was probably much less on the part of Sakurai himself and more between Nintendo and Disney’s legal teams. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a top pick in the fighter ballot, but it didn’t work out for Smash 4. edit: read the replies, i guess sakurai was indeed involved in some way, that’s pretty cool
These game concepts and foundation has created a series that will last for generations in our hearts and memories, and always be among our hopes for another installment. Thank you for all your hard work, I wish we could pick up the series and carry it on for you. 本当にありがとう。お疲れ様でした。
Every time I see how big the scope of Smash Bros. Ultimate is, I'm always amazed that something so enormous came out in such a short amount of time. I wish Iwata could have seen the results of your hard work and dedication. You would have made him beyond proud.
@@w21aaaaa Bums me out. He passed a little under 2 years before the Switch launched and one of his last memories is feeling he had let down the fans at E3 2015.
Definitely an honour and privilege to have grown with this series from the beginning. Can't help but feel sorry for those who weren't part of the experience. Funnily enough, my first ever console was the PlayStation, but as fate would have it, it stopped working early on, and I defaulted to NES/N64. Nintendo fan ever since. On a side note, I'd be very interested in a video series dedicated to just the legal side of Smash, depending on how much is allowed to be disclosed.
And thus we have the rest of the story of the wrold's living Video Game Hall of Fame. We've known for a while that if your character is in Smash, it's essentially the powers that be saying "you are important enough to the world of gaming that it would be worse off if it lost you" to that character - now we know how it got to the point. Thank you for all your work, and for making as many people happy as possible with how important it was to you that "EVERYONE is here!"
Including costumes! I remember people were angry that Shantae was a Mii costume, but her actual devs were over the moon about it and said they couldn't imagine they would ever get such high praise.
@@BJGvideos I'm glad they were happy - though after Mewtwo was playable and then omitted, I think the standard was already set, at least for him. I legitimately stopped buying Nintendo products from the day Brawl's roster was shown to be final and only came back the day the 50-Fact Extravaganza was streamed, buying multiple consoles and both purchasing and preordering several hundred dollars worth of games the next day. I felt that strongly about his cut from Brawl and his return in Smash 4. I do wonder how many other people legitimately changed how they feel about Nintendo as a whole from one character's inclusion or lack thereof...and I think it's knowing I might not be alone in how heavily I responded to that that led to the feeling of how important it was that "EVERYONE IS HERE!"
And then Piranha Plant was tossed in as a bonus even with the work constraints. Someone must have been a HUGE fan, but jokes aside the Petey Piranha callback for its Final Smash was really cool.
It's insane how far ahead Ultimate was planned, and to see all of these ideas come to life, especially during the midst of the pandemic, was an incredible once in a lifetime journey. I have no idea how another entry could be made without downsizing it a ton, but where we're at now has been more than enough to satisfy players for years. Thank you, Sakurai, Sora Ltd, Bandai Namco, and Iwata for making this vision a reality. This is a dang good timeline.
Sakurai-San, I'm proud of you, and your development team. And don't get me wrong that when you said that this game would be the final mission you received from Iwata, that was heartfelt man. You and your team went all out to create the one ultimate Smash game. You have turned it from impossible to possible. You created such a smashing masterpiece broke the internet and shook the world. Your game will forever be on the legacy of gaming history. What a ride this has been. Thank you, Mr. Sakurai.
Mr. Sakurai, I can’t thank you enough for all the work you’ve done for the Smash Bros series. Just thinking about the first time I played Smash waaaaay back to N64 makes me so happy to have this series in my life. Times sure flies! Smash Ultimate really feels like a once in a lifetime event and it’s thanks to your (and many others) passion for video games, which truly shines in Ultimate. Thank you for continuing to share that passion!
People might shit on Nintendo a lot but behind the company sits a team of dedicated and amazingly skilled people working on amazing games. The amount of content you fit into 16 GBs is probably one of the most amazing things about it. So many games nowadays omit compression which leads to games with huge download times and storage requirements but they went into this game compression in mind first. Considering the Japanese were among some of the first to rebirth the Phoenix of gaming I would say they still hold their torch and aren't letting go. God Speed Sakurai
When people shit on Nintendo ,they shit on the higher-ups who take the decisions, not the developers. (And NO, Pokemon isn't made by Nintendo, it's by Gamefreak, not the same thing)
Thank you, Mr. Sakurai. If this was to be the last game you made and you would retire from game dev, I don't think too many people would begrudge your decision. This was a long series that lives up to the pedigree and work put into it and, frankly, you and all the teams that worked on it, deserve a nice long break for it.
Even when people do complain about things in smash bros ultimate, I hope I can comfort you with the knowledge that it will never EVER detract from the incredible achievement you and everyone else who worked on it made with the game. The game functions better than anyone expected, the gameplay feels like melee but performs like *ultimate*, there's a huge variety of content for loads and loads of people to enjoy and the series as a whole, has probably one of, if not the largest communities. You're never going to be able to make *everyone* satisfied/happy with anything, nobody is. People are incredibly hard to please. The fact you've had overwhelmingly positive feedback from so many people who've played and loved each game should be a testament to your legacy that is smash bros and everything else you've worked so hard towards. You're right in that there probably won't be a game in the smash bros franchise as large as ultimate. It would take a LOT of time and a LOT of coinage and even then, it's never gonna make everybody happy. The next game (if there ever is one [which would be amazing but at the same time, this is a good place to end it if need be]) is very likely to drop some fighters due to licencing issues and needing to make room for new fighters. It won't mean that all of them won't come back together in future games however. You should feel proud and satisfied with your contributions to the gaming community. We never deserved someone like you at the helm of one of the biggest (and arguably best) game series of all time.
Man, Sakurai is a beast. I appreciate his tenacity, ambition and dedication to making the best game possible even when it came to starting the development of Ultimate just after Smash 4 was done and working through COVID. He along with his team made something so special and waiting for new characters, stages and music was like waiting for new birthday presents. The hype was real and there was nothing like it.
Going to be honest, I enjoyed World of Light more than Subspace Emissary. Getting each spirit felt like an achievement in its own right. A good mix of calling back on series history with themed battles and with a slight narrative. I actually prefer the reveal trailers over SSE cutscenes too. It's such a smart plan from a marketing point. It got us frequently talking about the game in the lead up to its release (and even during its release!) Also, I never want to throw another trophy base ever again.
Thank you so much Sakurai-san for taking on this final mission from Iwata-san making this Special Ultimate Smash game, this game really is an austoundingly amasing achievment
It is very difficult for me to describe in words how impactful Smash Bros. Ultimate has been for me, year after year I was excited about everything that was announced, words will never be enough to express my gratitude to you and your dev team
The fact in this video ends with the Smash Ultimate piano theme and not the traditional outro theme we always hear in Sakurai’s videos almost makes it seem like this is the last video he will produce on this channel. Super smash bros ultimate in many ways was something that was built decades in the making as the ultimate celebration of the video game industry. Never before and never again we will see a game like Super smash bros ultimate that honors and brings all of these franchises and companies together in one game
I ended up tearing up with this video. It's silly but from March 8th from 2018 to now so much has happened in my life and i feel like one of the things that i will remember the most in the future will be how great the hype train from Smash Ultimate was and the whole speculation, anticipation for the announcements and of course being able to play this game at its peak. Thank you Sakurai-san!
Going to add my thanks to a fantastic game thanks to the developers and your directorship. Everyone who worked on the feat of Ultimate deserves every bit of praise.
When he first described Ultimate as his “final mission” from Iwata it so simply and effectively contextualized all the clear effort that went into this one in particular, and I think many would agree Iwata would likely be very proud
This channel has been the one I've enjoyed the most since its start. I love how we have finally reached the end of this series on his games and the closure he has given to it. From a production, knowledge, and actually having fun through learning perspective, this channel deserves way more attention!! Thank you so much Sakurai for everything!
#ThankYouSakurai for everything you made. I've discovered so many game worlds with your game. You will be remembered for all your hardwork. Thanks for Super Smash Bros. Thank you for all the games. Thank you for Sora, and the other DLC. Thank you very much 🙏
A Lot of People Had questioned why Sakurai couldn't do certain things with Smash Ultimate, and Sakurai made his case. He Sandwich all the Smash bros content and all the Gaming History content he could within the size limit the switch could handle. That alone is Dedication and Hard work and honestly I couldn't ask for a better game. This brought me tears of joy to witness unfold, let alone get my hands on and it brings me back to the day I played Smash Bros 64 in my Summer School days. Sakurai-san I salute you, and Thank you for the wonderful world of gaming you brought to life.
Wow, there more things to do than just recycling smash 4 with graphic, sound and etc, like transition stuff from 4 to ultimate. Thank you Sakurai and the team for doing your best.
I would truly love to know the full story behind Piranha Plant's inclusion. Was it one guy's passion project? Did the team have some unexpected downtime during development and threw it together on a whim? Was it the result of having a gap between finishing the main game and starting on the DLC and it was an addition that could be made easily without needing to negotiate any licenses? In any case, looking forward to your next game concepts video, where you begin accurately predicting the future.
My guess is that someone just threw that idea in the comment section of the pic of the day and the rest of the team was like "Wait wait wait let em cook" lol
My guess is necessity. Piranha Plant was initially a pre-order bonus, and making a high profile character the pre-order bonus would’ve been too manipulative. Piranha Plant is a good middle ground of a character that is familiar and neat to have, but isn’t a MUST have like Steve or Sora.
It's really quite nice seeing the thought process on something like Spirits and World of Light in particular. Many thought that we could see something like Subspace in terms of a grander story mode, but were mildly disappointed. It's less that Smash Ultimate didn't *want* to deliver something like that, but that the scope was impossible especially given it was this big already. I had already figured something like this was the case, but it's always nice to see when you think like other developers and that your thoughts aren't just your own crazy ramblings, haha. In any event, Smash Ultimate is an amazing feat and really is a miracle. Hats off to Bandai Namco Studios and the other assorted team members for coming together for something so huge
Getting to hear Mr. Sakurai's insight on his games have been an incredible treat, and according to the description this is the final installment of this series. However I will stick along as long as Mr. Sakurai has time to keep making videos, these videos are beyond just entertaining, they're educational and inspiring.
As a Castlevania fan, I was happy as a clam ever since Simon (and Richter) got their due; old-school gaming icons added in to celebrate their legacy via official endorsement by Smash. Everything else was gravy. That this sort of game exists in an _official_ capacity will _always_ define it as something special. Thank you, Sakurai.
I just love Sakurai. Not because he can make great games, but I simply love his charm and personality on top of his talent for video games. He’s an incredible person that deserves every ounce of respect.
Sometimes I still can’t believe this series exists. Truly something magical till the end of time to see all these characters together. Truly thankful that Mr Sakurai had the powers to make this possible he is very powerful
Ultimate was a celebration of vets and new players experiencing something truly magical. Sakurai gave it his all and delivered one hell of a final request to Mr. Iwata. Nothing but respect Sakurai nothing but respect ✊🏾
Thank you Mr. Sakurai and your team for making Smash Ultimate be the game it is today. Not just for it being the biggest smash game but a celebration for gaming.
Honestly, I don't know how you could even top Ultimate. I feel like the best you could do for a new smash on whatever the next console is would be to take Ultimate, maybe add a few new characters and modes. (I would love to see Smash run return) This could be the last Smash bros game ever, and I would say the series ended on a high note. This is probably one of the greatest achievements in fighting gane history. Thank you, Sakurai, for all the time, effort, and passion you put into this game and all the other games you worked on.
Even doing a port would require every third-party company to sign off on it as well as a new revenue split, especially if you’re including the DLC companies.
stop port begging, even if a new game releases Ultimate isn't getting deleted... a new game with new mechanics and a smaller character scope with things like adventure mode returning would be fine.
@@pokemonduck it's called an opinion. You can have yours, I'll have mine. Besides, it's not like I have any sway over what Nintendo does with the franchise going forward.
"That's all for now!" That one hit hard, I feel so emotional just watching a summary of Sakurai's entire career To think a man can do so much and still be so humble, can't wait to see all other videos about game development topics
Thank you Mr. Sakurai! These videos were both informative and fun! Thank you for letting us learn from your many experiences through game development! ♥
Not sure how many people also feel this, but I felt like Spirits were a stroke of genius. Because once I started playing them, I quickly realized what they were doing. The best part of them, for me, were the actual battles. Utilizing all the different customization settings to basically create a battle that either signifies aspects of the Spirit character, or brings in game elements of the game they were from. You felt you were playing some aspect of that title while playing smash. So in a way, it was a clever way, with so much variety in tools and characters (movesets and all), to include some gaming aspect of so many titles, so your battle can celebrate them too.
(Man, it sucks being poor.) Just talking about the game makes me wanna play it even more! I have many ideas I want to share with this game! Stage Builder ideas, fanmade spirit battles. Also, World of Light actually looks fun. (And yes, Subspace Emissary is still cooler, but I want a new adventure experience after playing SE over 40 times.) Also, I wasn't disappointed in all the DLC character reveals. Variety, am I right? It was Smash Bros that made me appreciate all other series that's not just Mario, Sonic, and Kirby. So, yeah. Thank you, once again for this game, Sakurai. :)
Finally we have reached the *Ultimate* video! The Ultimate final mission from Iwata. The Ultimate compressing 60 into 16 Gigabytes. The Most Ultimate Everyone Is Here, and then some. The Ultimate releasing the game the year it was announced. The Ultimate DLC cycle, ending with the impossible Sora. Thank you Sakurai and the rest of the team for such an ultimate game. And thank you for keeping on with your Ultimate UA-cam channel, making people more Ultimate one video at a time.
Hey, if there's anyone who could top the epic that is Ultimate, it's you! But don't force yourself if you don't want to. You've done so much for the gaming scene as a whole!
Thank you sakurai, from Nintendo 64 to Smash Ultimate on the switch. You have made mine, my family and friends’ childhood the best. I knew it was stressful but had no idea how stressful. Enjoy your free time. You beyond deserve it.
Before people take that last comment out of context, he’s mainly referring to the fact that continuing to escalate like they previously have wouldn’t be realistic for future Smash games.
Smash Bros has impacted me as a kid. Funny enough I knew Smash in the Flash Fan Games but my actual first Smash game is the 3DS. Now I've been a big fan of crossovers in Video Games (Dissidia, Tales of VS/Radiant Mythology and some few more) and because they are portable games that I happen to play them with me everytime, with Smash 3DS and Ultimate also being portable. With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it really is a dream come true that almost everyone I play in other games are now in a single game. Sonic, Cloud and Sora has been my main pick outside of Nintendo and here they are all in the same game. Sakurai-san and everyone involve made those dreams come true. It's like being a kid playing with your toys from different franchise and you make them fight each other. It's basically Smash 64's Opening to everyone. And it's hard to move on from the next game if this dream has to be "replaced" by a new game. I would gladly have "MK8" treatment if it means keeping Smash Alive without living other characters out. But it seems not everyone is fond of the MK8 treatment.
I think the only way the game could be expanded would be to add something like the Subspace Emissary for Ultimate. Now that the game has been finished, they could take their time and release it as a companion DLC title, similar to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.
That would be brilliant for the next nintendo console. I really couldn't be mad if they ported smash ultimate to the "Switch 2" or whatever it may be. They could even add new spirits with all the new games that have come out after ultimate and that haven't came out yet. Kirby and the forgotten land, Metroid dread, mario wonder, new donkey kong, new 3D Mario, new mario kart ect all have potential for a re-release of ultimate.
I can honestly say smash ultimate still entertains us all so much even now still. I bought smash last year and just completed the DLCs. It’s the game I keep coming back to. It’s one of the legendary games that may stand the test of time, like chess, counterstrike, dota and starcraft 2. I hope it stays evergreen.
I imagined that Smash Ultimate must've been tough to develop, but having Sakurai himself talk about the struggles he and his team went through really puts it in perspective! I'm really looking forward to the future of Smash, even if they end up toning it down for the next entry
Sakurai and Kojima are the Big 2 in my eyes. Miyamoto used to be up there but more and more I’ve realized A. He doesn’t actually do much developing these days, more overseeing, and B. He actually holds a lot of games back from where they could be, specifically Mario, even if the games are still usually great, there’s certain lines he won’t allow to be crossed
It was fun seeing all the new character announcements when the updates were coming around. I feel this channel will be on hold when the next Smash Bros installment comes around.
It's so, so impressive to me the amount of content they managed to make, and then cram onto that cartridge without sacrificing quality! Interesting that online play was an issue during development, maybe that's the next frontier?
Every team involved did wonderful and amazing work! It’s clear that so much love and care went into these interactive works of art. The inner workings are even an enormous step-up from previous titles, and it’s always fascinating to see how the game’s architecture evolves over time (and how code was adapted from one version to another). No matter what perspective someone might have on it, it is an incredible work of art! Thank you for the many excellent memories and teachings I’ll never forget 😃 ❤

Nintendo has always been known for saving and compressing as much space as they can. Super Mario Bros for the NES is a good example of this
@@morayfryei feel this kinda stems from history, nes, snes, and n64 all had limeted space esspecly compared to the cd format playstation used. gamecube used mini discs wich could hold less then full sized. wii used dvd like format and wiiu used blueray like but both came at a time when those were syarting to be phased out (dvds to blue rays and bluerays to digital) and now the switch wich while haveing a bigger online store then has nintendo ever had the phisical part went back to cartidges wich while being bigger in size then ever are still expensive to make compared to discs and only get more expensive based of the size (cartidges come in 1gb,2gb,4gb,8,16,32 and i think 64gb modles). ever wonder why the phisical megaman legacy collection release has a phiscal copy of 1 and a download code for 2 its so capcom only had to use cheeper 1gb cartridges rather then the 2gb ones(also at the time of its release you condnt have 2 games on one cartidge like you can now and capcome probly thout it wasnt worth the effort coding them into one game with a selection screen)

Just to clarify; I am NOT saying SSBU is an enhanced port, I know it's not, I'm saying it is strictly in the sense of them reusing assets.
the anticipation for the next fighter over those 3 DLC years was always such a big occasion, at least among my friend groups.
It truly never was, Brawl was arguably the best Smash when it came to single player but even that game still barely missed the mark.
Dude, Sakurai’s raw dedication to his work is so incredibly unmatched. Ultimate is such a behemoth of a game because of the effort he put in, and we’ll be sure to cherish it for a long time coming
Did anyone else shed a tear by the end of the video? I unironically love what this man has done for us gamers all these years.
Yes it was kinda nostalgic to me, the hype we all had when the game was about to come, and with the DLCs. Good old times
Seriously Sakurai, thanks so much for all your hard work over the years and to all the team members that also worked on all the games along with you.
Even today, i still can't believe Mr. Sakurai got Sora into Smash! He is incredible!

@@pigs18 Nintendo probably paid more to use the Mickey insignia in the Sora trailer than it did to secure the rights to Sora for Smash. 🤣
that was probably much less on the part of Sakurai himself and more between Nintendo and Disney’s legal teams. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a top pick in the fighter ballot, but it didn’t work out for Smash 4.

This was a long series that lives up to the pedigree and work put into it and, frankly, you and all the teams that worked on it, deserve a nice long break for it.
geez Sakurai, you are INSANE we all appreciate the work you put into the smash series, so, so much, you're an incredible human being
Even when people do complain about things in smash bros ultimate, I hope I can comfort you with the knowledge that it will never EVER detract from the incredible achievement you and everyone else who worked on it made with the game.
It got us frequently talking about the game in the lead up to its release (and even during its release!)
Also, I never want to throw another trophy base ever again.

@@GamerTowerDX“what if we make a pirahana plant as a character and give it horrible frame data?” "good idea"

Thank you Mr. Sakurai and thanks to all the staff members who made those awesome games a reality! ❤
I just love Sakurai. Not because he can make great games, but I simply
love his charm and personality on top of his talent for video games.
I’d genuinely enjoy a video on how a character for one of these games is made
Thank you Mr.
Thank you, Sakurai, for all the time, effort, and passion you put into this game and all the other games you worked on.
i just said the same. There's no way they could possibly top smash Ultimate, beyond re-releases w/ new characters.
Maybe an actual story mode and interesting single player content would be a start
"That's all for now!" That one hit hard, I feel so emotional just watching a summary of Sakurai's entire career
To think a man can do so much and still be so humble, can't wait to see all other videos about game development topics
Thank you Mr. Sakurai! These videos were both informative and fun! Thank you for letting us learn from your many experiences through game development! ♥
He never said he was done making videos
Is there a way you could rent it?
Finally we have reached the *Ultimate* video!
The Ultimate final mission from Iwata.
The Ultimate compressing 60 into 16 Gigabytes.
The Most Ultimate Everyone Is Here, and then some.
The Ultimate releasing the game the year it was announced.
The Ultimate DLC cycle, ending with the impossible Sora.
Thank you Sakurai and the rest of the team for such an ultimate game. And thank you for keeping on with your Ultimate UA-cam channel, making people more Ultimate one video at a time.
Thank you once again, Mr. Sakurai, for making an incredible game
Hey, if there's anyone who could top the epic that is Ultimate, it's you!
But don't force yourself if you don't want to. You've done so much for the gaming scene as a whole!
Thank you so much for all the effort you've put into this series!
Thank you sakurai, from Nintendo 64 to Smash Ultimate on the switch. You have made mine, my family and friends’ childhood the best. I knew it was stressful but had no idea how stressful. Enjoy your free time. You beyond deserve it.
Before people take that last comment out of context, he’s mainly referring to the fact that continuing to escalate like they previously have wouldn’t be realistic for future Smash games.
... What is the context you could take that out of? Like, what is it that people shouldn't take it as, it seemed pretty straight-forward to me?
When masahiro sakurai smashed all over the place I felt it

Thank you and the teams for the magnum opus that is Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Truly one of the classics of the video game medium.
They should also make a Fighter's Pass 3.
Thank you for all your hard work Sakurai-san!
*This is the greatest videogame ever, Mr. Sakurai. You can be very proud! Rest in peace, Mr. Iwata!*
Damn the altered outro hits hard
I imagined that Smash Ultimate must've been tough to develop, but having Sakurai himself talk about the struggles he and his team went through really puts it in perspective! I'm really looking forward to the future of Smash, even if they end up toning it down for the next entry
Thank you very much Mr. Sakurai, and to the entire staff too!
Kudos to all the people who worked on Smash Ultimate, especially during the pandemic.
i hope sakurai knows how good these videos are, he really is, in my opinion, the grandmaster of game development
Sakurai and Kojima are the Big 2 in my eyes. Miyamoto used to be up there but more and more I’ve realized
A. He doesn’t actually do much developing these days, more overseeing, and
B. He actually holds a lot of games back from where they could be, specifically Mario, even if the games are still usually great, there’s certain lines he won’t allow to be crossed
@astro0sauce
1. Yeah he over sees stuff. That’s what a producer does. He can’t direct games forever
2.how? Are you referring to the story thing?
@@astr0sauce Kojima is overrated.
