This is the first video of yours I've seen. Thank you very much. I love the thunder and rain sounds. They're soothing. My nerves have been bad lately. And this helps a lot. Thank you.
My nerves do be bad too, and I found the sounds soothing. I also found that turning the sound off and watching the doodling at normal speed very helpful. -I was surprised! It was as if the doodling was unwinding my mind. Feeling much better now! Best wishes
This is a well established technique and it does have a name. It’s called “automatic drawing” or drawing without thinking. It was a technique very popular among the surrealists; and some surrealists, such as Yves Tanguy, André Masson, and Joan Miró, used it as the basis for entire paintings. It’s smth I love to do and I do it all the time
Great idea - I use waste envelopes from my mail and have a competition each night to see which grabs my attention more, my doodles or the TV. The doodles usually win 😊
I just grabbed an envelope because it was the first piece of paper available when I needed to write down some info. I remembered that it is oddly fun to use those to doodle on. Then this came up. How cool.
Some people know this, some people don't. Either way, it's worth mentioning and showing. If you knew it already, a reminder and just someone else's perspective on it is helpful. If you're hearing it for the first time, it may be like a door opening up for you, or your mind finally being given the key to relax and just flow. Thanks for your video. I found it both relaxing and encouraging.
Wow, this takes me back. I must have drawn hundreds of little comics on sticky notes during high school, with four or five panels per sticky note. I learned to draw and write so small that I can write my full name on a grain of rice, now. When I want to do a rough thumbnail sketch, I have to use a fat marker so that I physically can't cram any details into it, lol.
I’ve been dabbling in drawing lately for the first time since childhood, at the age of 32. Thank you for this. I’ve been using a brush pen because I heard that the extra challenge of using one forces you to embrace mistakes instead of punishing yourself for them (I often punish myself thanks to a traumatic upbringing) and while I’ve mostly been drawing my guitar so far, I might try to draw something like what you have here - these images aren’t necessarily identifiable objects, but nonetheless they still make me think of certain things - a pebble beach, a space station, a dense forest. I’m just starting out, so I don’t need to be good right away - I just need to be comfortable with drawing, and doodling without worrying about what the end product actually is sounds like a great way of getting past that wall in my brain while also embracing the idea of just having fun with drawing. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, it goes straight to my heart! I sincerely hope you find joy in drawing, you seem to have the perfect mentality to progress :) Have a great day!
I do this all the time, though not necessarily with Post-It notes; when I'm struggling to start drawing I find a piece of paper that I'm not concerned about and start doing purposeless scribbles until my head and hand sync into a groove. I'm so glad to see hat other artists do this and that I'm not alone in struggling to get drawing.
Watching on my phone, it wd be AWESOME if you could make your notes LARGER and with more contrast. White letters on a yellow background, even with the black outline is still a difficult read. I absolutely LOVE the rain sounds vs some obnoxious, anything BUT relaxing “music”. Well done 👏🏼
It's my birthday today and I happen to saw your video. I wasn't feeling so well this morning and it did get me out of my head. Thanks for the peaceful moment, I did draw a little but instead, trying something new!
That's quite wise. I discovered something similar with my guitar practice, that when you try timme and time again to play somme segment and keep upon failing, playing random notes helps. It removes a pressure like you said, and also remindes me why am I doing any of it and that it's fun to make things sound good and moody with my fingers. Never thought it applies to drawing too, so I'm looking forword to trying it out
Definitely helps, and I want to try it. I've never learned how to draw representational images, although I've done some quasi-studying of books about learning to draw. I think you're really on to something here because I do a lot of abstract art. These are great warmup ideas for any kind of mark-making, also.
Awesome meditation.. I’ve done a few millions over 45years. Also small canvases. The good ones, that are not good enough to sell, I wrap and put them in the street as presents with a “Street art for you” tag.
This looks easy and random, when in fact there is a ton of imagination and creativity in every "doodled" line. Not everyone can do this. So you might have to tell the viewers that their automatic drawings will (and must!) look very different from what they have seen here.
Hi Gris, fabulous doodling and soundtrack. Thanks for sharing. Can you also share the brand and size of pen you’re using? It looks like a very good choice.
Your doodles are so amazing and inspiring. I recently started doing like series of drawings on small cards like these and trying to draw (in one series) as much diverse faces as possible (because I love drawing people and making stories about them) this way not only I can actually accidentally make a cool oc but also practice art style, see what works and what doesnt, and I have a LOT of those cards so i dont feel bad when I mess up. I wiol try with pen though (no erasing) because I catch myself doing that alot- trying to yk achieve perfection so I stop flowing lol. Love the way you draw, you do it so flowy idk, ill try that too (I love the machine, reminds me of one book from my childhood "Cyberiada" by Stanislaw Lem, gosh I love that)
i started doing a similar kind of doodle in 1996 when i still a new mother, just moved into a house almost identical to my "native" house in samei town 😵💫 - couldn't sleep & started watching VH1's "Behind the Music," which happened to be on Fleetwood Mac, with whose latest album i was obsessed ... so much so that my (now 30yo!) son has it imprinted on him.as "road trip music." i did several 8.5x11s & they look like seaweed or tea leaves.
I really liked these. I'm sure there is a lot of practice that goes into all this doodling to make it look so effortless. Do you remember starting out? do you have beginning ones that you could show?? Like the scifi looking one how do you even begin to know what to draw and sizes and find it pleasing at the end? I want to try all of these, but attempts in the past to doodle like this just did not have any flow or interesting things in them. ( how did you get started doodling?)
I remember doodling like this in class, but it wasn't interesting to look at at the time either ! I suggest you take your time to find shapes you like to make and try to keep drawing even if you don't like it at first... I know I sometimes draw for hours before I'm happy with the direction the drawing is taking :)
Thanks, man. Well presented and insightful. The low cost & high value aspect of gribouillage makes your method easy to implement. The doodle-making appears to be a powerfully productive and transformative technique for loosening up, as for just one example. I already love the sensory feed-back from the various media and the surfaces. I like your concept.
Great, now you've really convinced me that I can NOT draw. Your "scribbles" come out great (almost looking intentional); mine are just horrible scribbles! Any advice from anyone?
I'm sorry, that's the opposite of what I intended😣 I don't know how much you've tried but it takes time to find what shapes you like to make, and how to put them together harmoniously... Don't give up!
Pretty sure that second one is the monstrosity left in your yard or on your roof after you've tried every cable company, searching in vain to get TV at a reasonable price, and have decided, finally, after many, many years, to just cut the d*mn cord.
great idea. Why don’t I just make really intricate, neat, well constructed drawings off the cuff when I don’t know what to draw. When I’m struggling to paint I’ll just splash out a quick Bosch or three.
I'd like to have seen the real time. I'm getting sick of these sped up videos cause i get used to them and then expect myself to draw like that. Of course i can't draw like that.
@gris_bouillis It's still a nice video. Sorry i just left a negative comment. Maybe it was an irritable morning for me. I want to say that i still enjoyed that you share your work with us. And that videos sped up are interesting in their own right. If i want real time videos then i can search for that or just draw myself lol

thanks Gris great idea and good tip for doddles, Im dure this technique will improve my drawings

How utterly imaginative! Doodling really is the most sincerest form of art isn't it? I love it!
It is for sure, thank you very much :)
that was so helpful and so peaceful to watch, thank you!
This is my first video i've seen of yours... sooo fascinating.. I love it.. The 2nd one reminded me of a junk yard statue.. love love love.
Thank you 😊
The second one looks like a fantasy spaceship- guys used to draw things like that on their spiral notebooks all the time back when we were kids!
I love what you do and could happily watch for hours because these are so soothing.
Everytime I watch you I get in this alfa brain zone. I feel so inspired by you. I am going to take my fineliners today to restart my doodling hobby. 🙃
Thank you very much :) that's great, happy doodle then !

I'm a retired carpenter and have tons of scrap pieces of masonite and wood that I treat, or try to, the same way. Cool video very encouraging. Thanks.

Ok I'll think about it next time ! Thanks 👍
Thank you! I struggling a lot with a lack of inspiration, but this video has inspired me to explore my creativity and imagination again.
That's so great :) I'm happy it helped you👍
fantastic. I'm going to try it. The second one you did looked like a robot or a crazy dentist chair.

Loved this - such a simple idea and very relaxing - even just to watch you. Might try this, thank you.

Well, I think I know what I might do with the tiny mini sketch books I made from scrap paper now 😁
Beautiful work.
I love the brown noise!!
I love this idea and your demo. I’m going to try this on my coffee break tomorrow morning! Have a good week! And Thanks!
Thanks for the advice! Love your technique and flow of your doodles!!
I really enjoyed your video. So relaxing and informative. Keep them coming. 😊
This drawing style reminds me of a few of my favorite comic book artists: Keith Giffen, Geoff Darrow, and Frank Miller.
Love the background music. It's calming. I feel like it restarted my mind. And thanks for the tips! I really enjoyed your drawing too!
Very helpful and soothing! Thank you!
Thank you so much, your video brought me peace and warm feelings🥹⭐🥰
Outstanding craftsmanship master of his trade. Wonder how long the hole process was ?
Thank you very much! I think it took around 15mn per drawing, so less than an hour in total...
Okay the squinting the eyes technique is actually genius

@gris_bouillis Do it. It’s fun to sometimes sit and watch finders reaction.. Cool vids buddy, keep it up - keep it fun.
Very good idea. I will try it. Sure thing. Thank you,

Yes you're right, I said it in a previous video but I should have mentioned it here too ! Thanks
The first little one was great, the second was AWESOME! And the third good also 👍🏼🙏🏼
Thank you very much 😊
Hi Gris, fabulous doodling and soundtrack. Thanks for sharing. Can you also share the brand and size of pen you’re using? It looks like a very good choice.
Yes if you look in the video description I right which pen I'm using every time :)

I don't know the book but I'll check it out👍

Hmm Peter? Peter draws??
Well, I'm nowhere near as skilled as he is^^'
@@gris_bouillis
You’re not? I don’t see that so far.
🎉 very nice 🎉
Thanks!
Love it. Thank you for sharing. Is this the normal speed of your drawing or have you speeded up the video to keep the video short?
Well Thank you for commenting :) Nah I don't draw that fast😅, but I don't remember exactly how much I sped it up...
So cool.
Love this ❤
I enjoy the doodling thank you
Try it with a punch needle, with a variety of colors on top of each other, layers of scribbles covering parts in many strata
I’m going to invest in a huge stack of Post-its ✅
My scribbles look like scribbles….yours look like art, lol. 😂😂😂
Excellent job-hats off to you!😲🤡🤡🤡👻🤖
obvious enough that Ive subscribed. Also, I LOVE the rain and not talking! Thank you. Makes me just want to play.

it isn't obvious. and I never thought to use my sticky notes. genius! thank you!

@@gris_bouillisno worries. Don't feel guilty. I keep doodling anyway. I still doubt I'll get much better, but just keep doing it anyway

It literally means grey mash but in French "gribouilli" means scribble or doodle

Shame that it was sped up instead of normal speed. That way you show a better representation of the doodles.
I know, but I'm always worry that it'll be boring😅 But I'll it more often!
