following squish for awhile now and am so proud that he was willing to talk about things like this. same thing happens to me. it pushed me from the game and im sure it pushes alot of people from the game. if there was just more positivity it would be great. negativity is contagious and is not good to be around.
Just a tip to anyone that feels that way about a game. Just turn chat off, you will never know what anyone says to you. It's one of the best things they have added to alot of games.
@@SL33P3R. yeah, I found that turning type chat off and just keeping team tactical quick chat on not only prevents me from coming across toxicity like this but also helps me to focus more on the actual game and, ultimately, play better.
Counter toxicity. Commit physical play. Chances are they have worse anger issues than you, so you can exploit those early challenges. Work on mechanics. Tell your opponent to train more. Pisses them off everytime and ez win
just had a teammate call me the same thing after one goal, but that doesn't mean we give up. so i played it out and the teammate just sat there until he got dc'd. After he left the other guys let me win but the community does have to understand that its just a game. just because you may be on a losing streak doesnt mean its the end of the world. do better rocket league. we all 3 reported him so if he doesn't get banned ill be highly disappointed.

I used to be toxic and mentally weak and pathetic but that's in the past now. after watching this video till the end. I felt a great deal of pain in my heart as I remembered, I felt so horrible. Definitely for me one of the biggest regrets in life acting like that and I sincerely wish that I could find every single person whom talked ill to and say I'm so sorry.

Don't downplay people's regrets. Most unconsequential thing can be your biggest regret, and the thing with worst consequences may not be something you regret at all, for example in a situation where you already knew about the risks and went forward with it.

Honestly I think it's great that you're taking the time to open your heart and tell us about this, even though for most of us we already know that every person is affected to some degree by the negativity they encounter. As an NRG fan I'm so happy to have a player with such an admirable mentality, and even from our point of view (as an NRG supporter/fan) we come across extremely nasty comments towards you, and even if it's jokes it's hurtful because deep down the negative things are said even in jest. As an esport fan, I find it unhealthy the pressure that is put on players and teams, your journey is admirable (your individual journey, NRG's and all its players are too) and I think everyone would dream of it, but of course you can't stay on top forever, there are ups and downs like everything else in life (it's happened to all teams and players: dignitas, g2, c9, vitality, nrg, bds - turbopolsa, kaydop, violentpanda, you guys from NRG) but that means nothing, your talent is undoubtedly there, I too have hope for you and the team! Sending love ❤️ honestly as a fan of nrg and esport rocket league i would never shoot you for doing "bad" results or anything else, and by the way since as many of you as you, garrett or justin, it's so hard, i'd see it again and yet i'm having a hard time beating ssl to get to the top rank of the game So yes, you have to forgive the pros because you are up against so many formidable teams that to be 6th in NA is already extraordinary. I stopped playing because of the toxic community. My temper would always get the better of me, and I would end up behaving no better than them. So good on you for being able to keep yourself so composed. It was just easier for me to remove myself from the situations that would get me so worked up.

I remember watching your old games and you’d mute people immediately. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to silence them. The objective for these people is a response, they thrive off of it. It’s pretty lame. You are probably one of the most underrated players in RLCS, and I don't mean in terms of skill because we all *know* you're skilled beyond measure. As someone who has watched you since you were called The Muffin Men, your humility and respect towards the community and other RL players is unmatched. The toxicity in this game is actually crazy and the same can be said for the chat in RL Esport. It's like kicking people when they are mentally down anyways, because we all know loosing doesn't feel good. The last events, the NRG chat especially, was just slandering the boys and to hear that you stopped streaming and even thought of retiring is making me feel very bad for you. I'm just happy to see all three of you healthy and in beastform on the next weekend even if you guys get last it doesn't matter for me.

That's just the way to deal with it. Subconciously it maybe does have a effect when people write bs, but just not letting it get to you to much and keeping the good vibes up will always be the way to go. And the more people stand unite against toxicity the more will follow and hopefully some of the bullys one day realize that there are other ways than to bs other people online.

Man... It's so depressing and sad to see these kinds of things happen. If anything, it only shows the jealousy of some people, and even though I know that you already know that, it's really important to remember it - jealousy exists in people that want what you have. It's, although sadly, a part of the industry, and the only way to answer to these people, is not to answer to them at all, which you already did, and huge props to you squish!
I've probably watched your rant at the end a couple of times now, and just knowing that you even thought about retiring because of trolls and dumb people is heartbreaking... I dearly hope to watch you lift that trophy again, and I know that I'm not the only one who thinks that way. What motivates me as a fan, is seeing you and the NRG squad succeed, whether it being in ranked on UA-cam, or on stage at a LAN.
I'm about to be 25 years old soon, just finished my bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, and through my lows the past couple of years - lows on my study or just life in general - I always got in a good mood whenever you had posted a new video, and it always calmed me down and took my mind off of things. With the bright charisma and atmosphere you radiate, I always feel welcomed and at ease watching you play.

Stay positive man and keep going. Ignore the trolls for the rest of us who admire your skill and achievements. Also great message to community at the end. It is a hard game & everyone makes mistakes. I remember I had less than 50 hours I was stuck in net just watching the ball & nice shotting everyone because I was amazed even at my opponents how they good they were, but they thought I was toxic and started saying how bad I am (at the time I didn't realize nice shot quick chat can be considered toxic to anyone). Told them I am learning and new to game they immediately apologized & realized their mistake.

Rocket league is a competitive game and it can get frustrating. So beyond the baseline toxicity of the gaming internet, the dynamic of the gameplay and inherent stressfulness of the competitive nature is susceptible to breeding toxicity. I know I get frustrated when I grind, and whenever I feel tempted to get or start getting toxic (think sassy Nice Shot!), I know it's time to take a break. I have some tolerance for frustrated teammates.. I get it.. but there's no excuse for behaving like the way that person did. It says more about their character than anything, and it pays in dividends to take the high road and not humor it.
Thanks for uploading this video Squishy. I'm not as familiar with you as some other pros, but I gained a ton of respect (and a new channel to subscribe to) for how you handled yourself here. I think you reflect how all professionals should practice their craft - with passion, understanding, and positivity.

It's absolutely infuriating. I just got back into RL after a year and half hiatus because the last time I had played (for a week straight I shit you not), all I got into were toxic lobbies with teammates throwing, arguing with each other, the opposing team joining in on the shitfest, etc. This was CASUAL, mind you. All I'm trying to do in that playlist is warm up, and I still get despised for making the smallest mistakes. I had NEVER been so frustrated in my life playing a game that I enjoyed so much. I don't get why everybody has a pine tree shoved up their ass when they play this game apparently.

I really respect your point of view Squishy. If I were in a similar position I would try to say the same message you are. I’ve experienced the toxicity of this game many times and all of them extremely unpleasant and destroyed my self esteem. While I know these are just people. The words they say are hard to ignore. Life and this game would be so much better if people were a little kinder than they are. I myself try to encourage positivity when it comes to games and just how I treat people IRL or online. Being positive soothes my subconscious and makes me feel safe.

I started watching squishy for the skills, but stayed for the positivity. What a way to use someone’s horrendous behaviour as a force for good. I hope that guy sees this and is convicted to change his ways
You know, when i first started playing rocket league a few years ago, i came across RLCS, that same RLCS that you won with C9 and you instantly became my favorite player. And as of this video you clearly are, and still, going to be my favorite player. Currently coaching a RL team at my local college and i make sure to pass the values of respect to my players. Keep it up Squishy!
I've seen toxicity skyrocket immediately after Psyonix gave a punishment for leaving a casual match. No longer can you leave a toxic lobby without getting punished now, and since casual is now the same as ranked but with no incentive for staying, I've seen most people just play ranked only now. This game desperately needs its casual mode back that lets you leave if the lobby isn't fun to chill in. It's forcing people to stay in matches that are toxic because 99% of teammates never want to forfeit.
Me and my friend play standard, it’s just 2 of us and our 3rd teammate sometimes just stops playing and starts typing in chat.

@@tobysheridan5252 Smurfs. Diamond 1 is filled with them, sadly. And playing 3s take some pressure off my friend, who isn’t as good as me yet, but can play good in 3s. Putting him in 2s is kind of unfair.
